Season 2 of the Sopranos is much like season 1, filled with a lot of character development. We also get to see more about Tony's career choice and how it affects him. We also get introduced to some new characters, the least of which is his memorable sister Janice.
Season 2 the cast and writers seemed to hit a groove, a familiarity and the show just flows along much more naturally. By season 2 I was fully addicted to the show. Getting to watch an episode or two each night was what I looked forward to all day long.
One of the best TV shows of all time. A stellar cast. Don't miss out! Buy it, rent it, borrow it from a friend...just watch it!
The DVD Value...You Already Know the Show is Great 5 out of 5 stars.

Each season of The Sopranos has many fine merits, and the second season is one of the best. It has the break-the-mold elements that separated it from other television fare with the betrayal by Pussy and the unexpected hit on Christopher. It has one of the darkest characters ever on television in Richie Aprile and one of the best narcissistic psychos in Janice Soprano. It also features some of the best Sopranos comedy in From Where to Eternity (when Christopher tells Tony and Paulie Walnuts that hell is an Irish bar where it's St. Patrick's Day every day and the Irish patrons win every throw of the dice in the eternal craps game happening there).
The DVDs do add a lot of value for a committed Sopranos fan. The directorial commentary is uneven, with some directors really telling you detail you'd find riveting and others just giving a basic play-by-play that you could get just by watching the show. I found about half of the commentary really interesting. For me, a strong fan, that was enough to warrant buying the DVDs. For the less committed fan, use Netflix and rent the discs.
