After a hurricane takes Ned Flanders house and leaves everyone else's homes untouch, Ned goes crazy. Homer incounters a Alien, just to find out that it's someone that everybody hates. Marge opens her own business after she is kicked out of The Springfield Investorettes. Marge starts losing her hair, so to take a break from everybody, enter the original Mary Poppins, Shary Bobbins. Poochie is introduced to The Itchy & Scratchy Show after the show starts losing it's TV ratings. Homer begins to suspect that Bart is gay, even though he's only 10 years old. Sideshow Bob is released from prison again this time changed for real!, but now his brother Cecil is evil. Lisa becomes a babysister, only to be distroyed by Bart. Principal Skinner and Ms. Krabappel become romantically involved. Bart gets rid of Santa's Little Helper, (don't worry he gets him back). Mr. Burns loses all his money and gets help from Lisa who gets money from recycling. Marge becomes popular by helping people with problems, only when Reverend Lovejoy doesn't care anymore to help people with problems, while Homer becomes befuddled by a likeness of himself on a box of Japanese dish soap. Fails to dissapoint. 5 out of 5 stars.

Since I'm overdue to review this season, I'd figure today would be good to finally give it my 2 cents. The 10th season is another excellent season of the Simpsons, filled with new (idiotic) adventures and more character development. The best episodes are Wild Barts Can't Be Broken, Viva Ned Flanders (come... who wouldn't love seeing Ned completely wasted?, Homer Simpson In: Kidney Trouble (the ending totally makes the episode for me), I'm With Cupid, Maximum Homerdrive (the sleeping pills and the caffeine pills scene is gold), and Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo. I also have to give special note to Make Room For Lisa, which explores the strained connection between Homer and Lisa, and shows a side of Lisa that every Simpson fan knew, at heart, was there, but it was never really explored. Of course, all of the episodes are great in there own way. There are some that aren't as good as others, granted, but there aren't any mediocre episodes to be found.

It's far too often that a TV show is golden during its first 3 or 4 seasons, but then declines into pretentious idiocy that tries too hard to be funny, and it shows that the writers know they can't recapture the fire that the old episodes had *COUGH* Family Guy *COUGH*. However, The Simpsons is one of those rare shows that never loses it's genius or credibility. Yes, there are some episodes that don't stand out as much as the others, but that happens in every show. Even after nearly 20 years, they still have plenty of ideas stored for new episodes. Hopefully, however, the writers and the actors who play the voices have been looking for new work. The show only has 19 or 20 more seasons to go at best. ;)

Here's to the next 20 years!!

"Keep looking shocked and move slowly towards the cake"---Homer 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I used to think that season 9 was the season that The Simpsons started motoring up that ramp towards the shark. After watching this 4 DVD set, however, I found a lot of very good episodes, especially the ones featuring Lisa which is probably why she got the cover to this set. I like the old record label theme to the pacakaging. I prefer the box packages to the head shaped ones as I think they are cooler looking and a little easier to work with. The ramp might have been under construction, but this was not the season The Simpsons jumped the shark. DVDs contain the usual commentaries and deleted scenes.

Disc 1:
"The City of New York Vs. Homer Simpson": Barney abandons Homer's car in the city he despises the most: New York City. When Homer takes his family to retrieve the vehicle, they experience the best the city has to offer while Homer experiences the worst
"The Principal and the Pauper": Strange episode where the Simpsons started getting more outlandish storylines. It turns out that Seymour Skinner stole his identity from his Army Sergeant thought to be dead. Skinner's mother's acceptance is actually rather believable but how the town reacted to the revelation (what the real Skinner did to receive such scorn is unclear) is almost silly. The judge was right; this episode should never be spoken of again.
"Lisa's Sax": One of my favorites. A story about how Lisa got her saxophone (or "saxomaphone" as Homer calls it) turns into a cute flashback story about how Bart became a proud underachiever.
"Treehouse of Horror VIII": One of the better Halloween specials. "The Homega Man"--Mayor Quimby offends the French and Homer thinks he's the sole survivor of the resulting neutron blast, until he's encountered by zombies. "Fly Vs. Fly"--Bart uses a Professor Frink's transporter to morph with a fly. I like when the spider shakes his fists at Bart the prankster fly and when monster Bart is choking Lisa in the kitchen and Homer is seen in the background using the transporter to get a beer out of the fridge. "Easy-Bake Coven"--Marge and her sisters turn out to be real witches in 1649 Sprynge Fielde.
"The Cartridge Family": A soccer riot causes Marge to be concerned about the safety of her family so Homer gets a gun but is so irresponsible with it that Marge feels even less safe. Homer is very over-the-top here.
"Bart Star": Homer becomes coach of Bart's peewee football team and gives him special treatment. Joe Namath is guest.

Disc 2:
"The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons": Just when the single women of Springfield discover Apu as a hot bachelor, he is summoned to an arranged marriage. He tries to get out of it by pretending to be married to Marge. Very funny. When Apu's mother falls outside the Kwiki Mart, Apu is relieved that it buys him time. Homer thinking about a yodle he ate and forgetting to tell Marge about the plan is hilarious.
"Lisa the Skeptic": Interesting episode. Honor students are rewarded and detention students are punished with an archeological dig where Lisa discovers a skeleton that looks like an angel.
"Reality Bites": Homer buys Snake's beloved sports car at a police seized-property auction and Snake wants revenge. Meanwhile, Marge becomes a Realtor and sells the Flanderses the town murder house. Stupid ending.
"Miracle on Evergreen Terrace": Bart burns down the family Christmas presents and plastic tree and makes up a story about being robbed. The town supports them until they find out it's a hoax. Guest Alex Trebek. OK in parts but silly in others. Goes all over the place.
"All Singing All Dancing": Clips of past musical numbers. Totally lame.
"Bart Carny": Homer takes in a couple of carnies down on their luck and they help themselves...to the Simpsons' home. Special guest: Jim Varney.
"The Joy of Sect": Homer, and most of Springfield, join the Movementarians. "Church, cult, cult, church. So we get bored someplace else every Sunday. Does this really change our day-to-day lives?"--Bart.

Disc 3:
"Das Bus": A take-off of Lord of the Flies where Bart and his classmates are stranded on a deserted island.
"The Last Temptation of Krust": When his nightclub act is a bust, Krusty the Clown decides to retire until he finds out that criticizing other comics and money-grubbing companies will reinvent his career. Comedy, however, turns out not to be what's really in his blood. Guests include Jay Leno, Janeane Garofalo, Bobcat Goldthwait.
"Dumbbell Indemnity": Mo finally finds a woman who will go out with him but resorts to deception and fraud to keep her. Not one of my favorites.
"Lisa the Simpson": The best episode of this season. Lisa is puzzled by a kid's puzzle and freaks out when grandpa tells her about the Simpson gene that causes Simpsons to go through a process of "dumbening."
"This Little Wiggy": Marge sets up a playdate for Bart--Ralph Wiggum. Bart and Ralph get hold of Police chief Wiggum's master key and use it to turn on an electric chair at an abandoned prison. Coincidentally, Mayor Quimby decides to reopen the prison and use the chair for a publicity stunt.
"Simpson Tide": Homer and his pals join the Naval Reserve and is put in charge by his captain (Capt. Tennille ha, ha), shoots his captain out a torpedo tube, and takes his sub into Russian waters. Yeah, it's as stupid as that. Guests voices: Bob Denver, Rod Steiger.
"The Trouble With Trillions": After a severe audit, Homer is hired by the IRS to help convict Mr. Burns for stealing a trillion dollar bill from the government.

Disc 4:
"Girly Edition": Lisa and Bart co-anchor a kid's news TV show and Lisa thinks Bart's manipulative "Bart's People" segments are jeopardizing the integrity of the show. Meanwhile, Homer gets a helper monkey who turns out to be as fat and lazy as he is. "But what do you expect? His cholesterol is through the roof!" Better than average episode.
"Trash of the Titans": 200th episode. Why that is so important, I don't know. Homer gets into a fight with the garbage men and they cut off his service. Homer takes on the city and campaigns to become Sanitation Commissioner. "It's just like David and Goliath, only this time David's going to win." U2 makes appearance. Crying Indian at the end for us Generation Xers.
"King of the Hill": Another of the better episodes. After being humiliated in front of Bart during a church picnic game of capture the flag, Homer starts working out and eating Powersauce bars. For a Powersauce promotion, Homer attempts to climb the Murderhorn. Highlight--The Commi-Nazi logo in the McBain movie.
"Lost Our Lisa": Lisa really wants to see the Isis exhibit at the museum but no one will drive her. She decides to take the bus alone and gets lost. Touching father/daughter ending.
"Natural Born Kissers": Homer and Marge try to spice up their marriage by getting romantic in forbidden places.

I am a big fan of the Simpsons.. especially their DVDs with all of the episode commentaries. Being that the first episode came out twenty years ago it is interesting to hear what Matt Groening and the other creators went through when putting together this groundbreaking cartoon series.

Just Because R.E.M. was a Guest for 65 Seconds........ 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 13 people found this review helpful.

I hate to admit I do not watch much T.V. at all, but I love R.E.M. and wanted to see the episode where they made a guest appearance so I picked up this 4 episode disk. Although R.E.M.'s appearance consisted of a partial performace of "Its the End of the World as I know It (and I feel fine)" and a few lines by each member of the band, I think it was worth it. The performance just picked up so much of the band's personality (Homer telling them it was a benefit to save the rainforest to get them to perform in his garage turned bar from Stipe wanting to wack Homer with a broken beer bottle when the deception is discovered and being told that was not the R.E.M. way, to recycling the broken bottle bits). It was a little freaky how much the cartoon depictions resembled Stipe, Mills and Buck.

So if you are an R.E.M. fan this is a disk to pick up as it is just so funny (if not brief) and such a parady of the persona the band was dripping at the time.

Wars 4 out of 5 stars.

I liked this DVD but if people would please forget about star wars this DVD is about WARS not Star Wars.
Mayored to the Mob-Star wars and Mob wars
The Secret War of Lisa Simpson-army training AKA War training.
Dog of Death-Mr Burns trains Santas Little Helper against humans AKA Dogs VS Humans War.
Marge Be Not Proud-Barts war with the store manager and Marges war against Bart.
I hope you now understand that this DVD is about WAR.

unfunny 1 out of 5 stars.

The Simpsons (especially later episodes) are UNFUNNY! Horrible selection, not Star Wars-related, UNFUNNY. Watch King of the Hill or South Park, which are better than this crap, and also better than Futurama, which is the WORST show ever made.

Huge dissapotinemt! 1 out of 5 stars.

I think it is rather shameful of fox to mis-represent what this DVD is. They call it Bart Wars, and put Darh Vader on the cover why is it unreasonable to buy it expecting the Star-Wars episodes of THe SImpsons? They are not bad episodes (So Please don't send a letter to Foz about me whoever writes those "a Kid's Review" But Fox should be ashamed for trying to rip off the fans and decieving us like this. The only rason to buy this is if you can't wait for the eventual Box Set of their respective Season. Otherwise, if you do buy it you are just getting another hastily thrown together DVD to keep us (the fans) at bay until they can catch up On the Season Box sets. Best to make your own opinion really....

Four good episodes from seasons 9, 14 and 15 4 out of 5 stars.
21 of 23 people found this review helpful.

Here is a brief synopsis of each episode on this 4-episode release:

Natural Born Kissers (season 9)
Homer and Marge have trouble capturing their old magic in the bedroom and learn to get it back by adding a sense of danger to their love life. They begin "snuggling" in very public places in order to add excitement to their romance, but this quickly goes awry when they are caught on the miniature golf course.

Large Marge (season 14)
Lisa wins a bet with Homer on the Dewey/Truman presidential election of 1948 and gets to pick the day's father/daughter activity. Lisa chooses to assist with building houses for the homeless. Homer removes his wedding ring after getting paint on it and the usual confusion and mayhem ensues when Marge believes he is flirting with other women.

Three Gays of the Condo (season 14)
Homer and Marge argue when Homer finds out Marge married him because she was pregnant with Bart. He decides move in with Milhouse's dad. When that doesn't work out, he's eventually taken in by Karl, his former assistant. Karl has a flamboyant alternate lifestyle and Homer gets involved in it with the expected comedic results.

The Way We Weren't (season 15)
When Homer mentions that Marge was not his first kiss, the story flashes back to Homer in summer camp where his first kiss was with an anonymous girl who turns out to be Marge after all. In the flashback, Homer fails to show up for a planned meeting with her because he accidentally winds up in a fat camp, but all the years since that incident Marge believed she was stood up.

This collection of 4 episodes from seasons 9, 14, and 15 on the theme of romance should please any Simpsons fan who enjoys these single-disc releases. Although all these episodes will eventually be available on full season sets, if you can't wait for some of the later seasons to arrive or if you prefer less expensive "best of" collections then this disc is for you. Although the lack of extra features or more episodes on the disc is a negative, the price of the disc is relatively modest and most of the episodes are fairly good ones.

Editorial Review:
