Horrible at best 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This outing from the Futurama crew was by far the 'worst episode ever' (thank you Comic Book Guy). The beginning has such promise: interspecies marriage! unexplained phenomena in the sky! Bender getting electrocuted! And then it all goes horribly, horribly wrong. In truth, I can't begin to explain why it's so terrible, since I'm sure many people reading the review will want to buy this movie anyway and I'd certainly hate to ruin the big 'surprise'...however unless you are super keen on seeing all your favorite characters turn into some convoluted chick-flick, sappy version of themselves STAY AWAY from this movie. NOT FUNNY!!!

Disappointing at best 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

At first I thought the movie was going to be as good as "Bender's Game." About the time right after the Madison Cube Garden scene everything went down south. This movie is not worth buying, unlike the other two, and a big disappointment from the first movie.

"Good news everyone! We've made another movie..." 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I was already unhappy with the first Futurama movie, so I didn't have much hope for the second. I was surprised to see that this installment of Futurama is actually two awkward subplots mashed together: Lovecraftian horror for the first half, and a meditation on religion on the second half.

On the Lovecraftian side, throw in tentacle attacks, slimy ancient gods from beyond time and space, and the nihilistic view that Heaven is a fabrication and you've got a pretty depressing, semi-creepy, not really all that funny first half. Bender finally makes good on his threat to destroy all humans, Fry conveniently forgets his entire relationship with Leela, the Robot Devil shows up for a one-note gag ... I could go on but I'll stop there.

Judging by the reviews so far, the second half went over a lot of peoples' heads. Yivo is a parody of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, which is itself a parody of religion. Basically, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a mental construct posed to challenge the notion of a divine being; if you can disprove that the Spaghetti Monster was responsible you win the argument. "Win" being a pretty subjective word, as anyone knows who has argued about religion or politics.

As one big joke about relationships and religion, Beast With a Billion Backs works pretty well. But for reasons known only to the writers, the plot shambles forward well beyond the Big Revelation by Leela about Yivo, the aforementioned Spaghetti Monster. It's like the drunk guy at a party who tells a joke, discovers no one thinks it's funny, then tells it in a slightly different way that STILL doesn't make it funny. We get it: relationships with people can be just as ridiculous as relationships with God. But this is Futurama, and while I appreciate the depth of meaning the show strives for with this movie, it feels forced. A multitude of guest appearances doesn't make up for it.

Still, I can't be too harsh on Futurama. You won't find many animated shows that are willing to take on topics like relationships and religion at the same time, so Futurama gets points for trying. I just wish it didn't try so hard.

gotta love Jack 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

If you love Jack, you'll love this dvd set. it's not the best season of 24, and it seems to start out amazingly slooow compared to the subsequent seasons, but once it takes off, you'll remember why you started watching in the first place. Sure, Kim is whiny and Terri is a straight up drama queen, but Nina's a hoot and it's a fun ride for those of us who can't get enuf of Jack!

thats a shame!!! 4 out of 5 stars.

Have not had a chance to watch this (again). Missed the first season, so we watched it from NetFlix. It was hard NOT to watch the 4 programs on each disc. I think this was the best of 24! Always have been a Kiefer Sutherland fan too.

24 rocks!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Loved it. Loved the price. 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 9 people found this review helpful.

It's a great show and when it went on sale like that, it was impossible to pass up. Even at market price it's a great deal! The show is amazing and fun to watch.

Series Great, Packaging Decent 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

As others have said Buffy is an amazing show which I would have given 5/5 stars. Unfortunately, the box quality isn't nearly as good which brings down the rating.

The outside is fairly solid cardboard and pretty nice - good display quality. The individual inserts for each season are really cheap, about as strong as a hallmark card with a stack of crummy disk holders glued in.

The overall design is questionable as well. It is certainly interesting and unique, but it is horrible to use. The inserts are stacked like pancakes, so if you are actually watching the series you'll have to tilt it sideways or be prepared to deal with balancing all the inserts above the one your after. Either way you'll need to pull the box off your shelf to open the box at all.

I docked 1 star for the flimsy inserts, and 1 star for the poor usability of the design. This set is still a great purchase if you love the series, and will fit in perfectly on your shelf. But prepare for mild annoyances when your actually pulling out dvd's.

It just starts getting better 5 out of 5 stars.

As with the 1st 2 season 3 of the simpsons has some great episodes 1 in which has to be the best is Stark Raving Dad in which after being in the wash 1 of homers white t-shirts ends up in the wash with barts red hat and turns pink homer ends going to work in it where burns notices it and gets homer sent to the loony bin where he ends up in a room with a big guy who thinks he's michael jackson the result is 1 of the best jokes ever in which the whole town gather to meet him thinking he is the real deal.

Another great season and must have

Great! My fiance needed the 3rd season for his collection. Hilarious! Great episodes!

It only gets better. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this season along with season 4 while at a store with my then fiance and spent the next few weeks watching them while she went off to work. Season 3 has some of my favorite episodes, Like Father, Like Clown, wherein Krusty tells the story of his estrangement from his Rabbi father and Bart and Lisa set out to bring the two of them back together again. Other notables include When Flanders Failed, wherein Flanders opens a store for lefthanded individuals only to have it fail due to Homer's spiteful wish, and Bart the Murderer, which introduces us to Fat Tony and his gang. This season also includes the second Treehouse of Horror, one of my favorites actually. This one features the Monkey's Paw, Bart possessing supernatural powers and the Frankenstein sketch where Mr. Burns uses Homer's brain in a new, robotic worker which he believes will solve the problem of the incompetant employee. It also, interestingly enough, introduces one of my favorite Simpsons traditions (at least in Halloween shows), that in which a character is fatally injured but describes his injuries in detail before he finally does die. "Every bone...shattered...Organs...leaking vital fluids...Slight headache...Loss of appetite...Smithers...I'm going to die."
But this season features a great many other excellent episodes. Of particular interest to me are Flaming Moe's, which featured a guest appearance by Aerosmith, Radio Bart, Rancho Relaxo and Homer at the Bat. Oh, and of course let's not forget I Married Marge. Saturdays of Thunder and Lisa's Pony aren't my favorite episodes but they're still good. Then of course Mr. Lisa goes to Washington and Homer Defined are classics well worth watching. Of those two I'd have to say the former is my favorite. "Bart! Get out of the Spirit of St. Louis!"
One of my favorite features of this box set is the commentary, which is not only provided by the show runners, writers and the ever present Matt Groening this time around, but also by the voice cast for the Simpsons themselves, Nancy Cartwright, Julie Cavner, Yeardley Smith and of course Dan Castellaneta. It's actually quite funny, since not only do they discuss their memories of working on many of the episodes (they're featured in all but a few of them), but sometimes they do it in some of their character voices. It's quite funny to hear Dan switch from his normal voice into Krusty or Homer's right in the middle of a sentence, which he does on occasion. Only Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer are absent from the commentary here, but Hank shows up in one episode of Season 4..
Another neat feature as I may have mentioned in a prior Simpsons review, is the fact that you can listen to the episodes on muitple languages. Before they were only available in French but now you can listen to them in Spanish as well. It's quite funny to hear the Spanishh or French version of Homer's classic D'oh! This is in no way intended to be a slight on Spanish or French people. I've just always had a fascination for hearing movies I grew up with in other languages, particularly if I can't speak the language in question.
But getting on with the review here, this season also features an episode that, if memory serves, won Marsha Wallace an award for outstanding voiceover performance for Mrs. Krabappel. I refer, of course, to Bart the Lover, where Bart takes his revenge on Mrs. Krabappel for a long stint of detentions by responding to her personal add by posing as a sexy man named Woodrow, only to feel gilty later when Woodrow stands her up. The subplot of Homer trying to swear off swearing is also quite funny. So if you haven't already done so and you're collecting Simpsons DVD's, you should definitely pick this one up. It reminds us all of what the show once was.

24 is such a good series -- it is so exciting! And you NEVER know what is going to happen. I like the fact that Jack always tries to do right even at his own personal cost. I think that is what I like best about 24.

Pretty Good, But Hilariously Impossible! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Well its no shocker that David Palmer was assassinated. It was everything else that will have your head spinning. Everyone was a suspect in this season. And Jack seemed to be the overly invincible superman in this season. I mean, he is in every season, but his trials seem to be overwhelmingly challenging this season. The White House is infiltrated, but every time you think its one person, it turns out to be someone. And CTU gets attacked....again!!
Seems to me that everything in this government unit gets easier to access every season. LOL Any and everyone can get in and out of this place with no problem. Maybe its time that CTU up the security protocol; the world will NEVER be safe if this place doesn't get better at protecting the people and their office!
A lot of very phony points are seen in this season, but you have to watch it because you are a fan of the show. Is it good? Yes. Easy to watch? Definitely!
Yet laughable. And a bit predictable as it went along. If it wasn't for the great acting on everyone's part, this season might have died within the first 10 episodes.
Not at its best, but still not the worst.

"You'll have to speak up, I'm wearing a towel." 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Simpsons' fifth season (1993/94) falls just short of the radar in terms of the apparent attempts (by British TV at least) to rerun the show into submission by scheduling every episode from seasons 6 through 9 in almost weekly rotation. In this sense therefore, there is likely to be a few gems in this set which may have evaded even avid viewers for a year or two at least. The last thing The Simpsons needs is another champion, so I won't preach about how great the show is (please see below). What I will say is that the commentaries are both amusing and informative in their own right and have ultimately served to enhance my appreciation of the show. All in all (whilst not my own all-time favourite) a classic season with some canonical episodes.

I have chosen a line or exchange of dialogue from each of season 5's episodes that always amuses me (as opposed to episode synopses) and listed them below. I hope you can get a laugh out of them too.

1. `Homer's Barbershop Quartet'

* Bart: "Oh boy - free trading cards!"
* Milhouse: "Wow, Joseph of Aramathea - 26 conversions in A.D. 46!"
* Nelson: "Woah - a Methuselah rookie card!!"

2. `Cape Feare'

* Homer: "Oh my God! Someone's trying to kill me!! Oh wait, it's for Bart."

3. `Homer Goes to College'

* Benjamin: "Come on Mr Simpson, you'll never pass this course if you don't know the Periodic Table."
* Homer: "Meh, I'll write it on my hand."
* Benjamin: "Oh - including all known actinides and lanthanides?? Good luck!!"

4. `Rosebud'

* Smithers: "Look at all the wonderful things you have, Mr Burns: King Arthur's Excalibur, the only existing nude photo of Mark Twain, and that rare first draft of the constitution with the word `suckers' in it."

5. `Treehouse of Horror IV'

* Willie: "Me mule wouldn't walk in the mud - so I had to put 17 bullets in `im."

6. `Marge on the Lam'

* Marge: "I'm disappointed in you, but it turns out I had a wonderful time with Ruth Powers. In fact, we're going out again tomorrow night."
* Homer: "Marge, that's twice - I think you're spending entirely too much time with this woman!"

7. `Bart's Inner Child'

* Brad Goodman: "We can all learn a lot from this young man here, this..."
* Bart: "Rutiger."

8. `Boy-Scoutz N the Hood'

* Marge: "I know you think the Junior Campers are square and `uncool' but they also do a lot of neat things, like sing-alongs and flag ceremonies."
* Homer: "Marge, don't discourage the boy! Weaselling out of things is important to learn - it's what separates us from the animals...except the weasel."

9. `The Last Temptation of Homer'

* Sherri & Terri: "Nice glasses, Four-Eyes!!"
* Nelson: "Yeah, nice shoes...err...Two-Feet."

10. `$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)'

* Kent Brockman: "Things aren't as happy as they used to be down here at the unemployment office. Joblessness is no longer just for philosophy majors - useful people are starting to feel the pinch."

11. `Homer the Vigilante'

* Homer: "So I said to him, `Look buddy, your car was upside down when we got here. And as for your grandma, she shouldn't have mouthed-off like that!'"

12. `Bart Gets Famous'

* Martin: "When will we be able to see a finished box, Sir?"
* Box Factory Guy: "Oh, we don't assemble them here. That's done in Flint, Michigan."

13. `Homer and Apu'

* James Woods: "How can it be the same movie if they've changed my character from a tightly-wound convenience-store clerk to a jittery Eskimo firefighter?,,,uh-huh...Mm-hm...well, actually that's a pretty good explanation."

14. `Lisa vs. Mailbu Stacey'

* Lisa: "It's awful being a kid. No one listens to you."
* Grandpa: "It's rotten being old. No one listens to you."
* Homer: "I'm a white male, age 18 to 49 - everyone listens to me, no matter how dumb my suggestions are!" (grabs a can marked `Nuts & Gum: Together at last!')

15. `Deep Space Homer'

* NASA Guy: "People - that's who we need for our next astronaut."
* Babcock: "I suggest a lengthy, ineffective seach - at the taxpayers' expense, of course."
* NASA Guy: "I wish there was an easier way."

16. `Homer Loves Flanders'

* Homer: "I want everyone to know that this is Ned Flanders, my friend!"
* Lenny: "What did he say?"
* Karl: "I dunno, something about being gay."

17. `Bart Gets an Elephant'

* Homer: "Well, these bills'll have to be paid out of your allowance."
* Bart: "You'll have to raise my allowance to about $1,000 a week."
* Homer: "Then that's what I'll do, smart guy!"

18. `Burns' Heir'

* Burns: "Now I have no one left to leave my enormous fortune to."
* Smithers: "Ahem."
* Burns: "You, Smithers? Oh no, my dear friend - I've planned a far greater reward for you. When I pass on you shall be buried alive with me!"
* Smithers: "Oh...goodie."

19. `Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song'

* Skinner: "Now I finally have time to do what I've always wanted - write the great American novel. Mine is about a futuristic amusement park where dinosaurs are brought to life through advanced cloning techniques. I call it `Billy and the Clonosaurus.'"

20. `The Boy Who Knew Too Much'

* Skinner: "'Please excuse my handwiritng, I busted whichever hand it is I write with. Signed Mrs Simpson.' You were right to be suspicious, Edna!"

21. `Lady Bouvier's Lover'

* Marge: "Homie, you know it's funny - both my mother and your father seem pretty lonely."
* Homer: "Hehehehe - that is funny."

22. `Secrets of a Successful Marriage'

* Homer: "I'm not out of order - you're out of order! The whole freakin' system is out of order! You want the truth? You want the truth?? You can't handle the truth! Coz when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face - you'll know what to do! Forget it Marge, it's Chinatown!!"

Excellent twofer of the first X-Files movie with new extras, sharp transfer and the newer "X-Files" movie with excellent picture 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

A really nice boxed set of the two "X-Files" movie, "The X Files: Fight the Future" looks terrific in its first Blu-ray transfer. "Fight the Future" looks nearly as good as the more recent "I Want to Believe".

"Fight the Future" info:
Fox has upgraded this for Blu-ray with new extras including a new featurette and a new PIP commentary by Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz, Daniel Sackheim and Director Rob Bowman. We also get the gag reel and everything that I can recall from the original DVD. The extras are high def as well. We get both the theatrical cut and unrated DVD version BOTH remastered for high def. There is no Digital Copy for the film included.

The plot (SPOILERS): Set between the fifth and sixth season of the TV series, the X files has been closed down. Mulder and Scully have been reassigned. They work a terrorist threat in Texas. When Mulder follows a hunch he discovers the bomb and it's in a DIFFERENT building than they've been canvasing. More importantly, a doctor (Martin Landau)informs Mulder that there were a little boy and a fireman that rescued the boy that was infected with a pathogen in the bombed building. They were already DEAD when the bomb went off and clearly the bombing was designed to cover this up.

"Fight the Future" is a strong movie and a key "episode" of the mythology arc but can stand on its own as well. Rob Bowman opens up the show making it appropriate for the big screen with a often visually dazzling movie with top notch visual effects.

"I Want To Believe"
Includes featurettes on the film, a PIP commentary track with Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz as well as a full blown documentary on the making of the film.

The Plot: (SPOILERS) Mulder comes out of hiding and Scully out of "retirement" to help find a kidnapped FBI agent. Because of their experience with the X-files, they are called int to verify if a disgraced pedophile priest (Billy Connolly in an excellent performance)is, indeed, psychic as he claims to know that the FBI agent is alive and he's having visions related to the case.

I had mixed feelings about the film--it's a good one which reminds me of some of the non-mythology episodes that would be squeezed in between those key episodes. It plays like a smaller, more intimate movie so don't come expecting "Fight the Future" and you won't be disappointed. The story is a bit muddled at times and is a bit slow paced but has its rewards.

The film, regardless of how you feel about it, looks excellent with a crisp image that isn't digitally overprocessed. The extras are excellent with a PIP commentary from Carter and Spotnitz, a full length documentary on the making of the film. We also get a gag reel. It doesn't say it on the box but you DO get a Digital Copy of the film here as well for "I Want to Believe".

Fox did an excellent job pulling the original extras and adding some nice new ones as part of the new package. Highly recommended although it MIGHT be more cost effective to buy this as the two Blu-ray set.

24 Tips: The Best Way to watch this Fantasy Series. 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This Series is pure FANTASY. In order to watch it, you have to actively suspend your disbelief. If you can't, you will not be able to watch it. Now, Keifer Sutherland is a superb actor. He plays Super Man Jack Bauer...an indestructible SuperHero with unlimited Super Powers: never gets hurt, travels at the speed of light, can hit any target with a pistol, is the most intelligent person ever created... etc. Only Jack Bauer, singlehandedly, can save the World! All the Villains are intensely Evil. If you like watching Bad Guys..specifically, Terrorist Moslems getting killed you will love this Series.. and that is a big plus. The Villains also has Superhero Powers and intelligence..however I guarantee you will get sick of Nena Myers popping up again and again and pray that she gets killed... The actress who plays Agent Michelle Gessler is the worse Actress that has ever appeared in the history of TV. She makes all these weird faces in an attempt to portay seriousness... it just makes her look mentally deranged. The actor who plays Tony Almeda is almost as Bad. They both reappear in Season 4, at about the same time...I am sure you will be disgusted with these two. After watching Four Seasons, I recommend you watch each Season as fast as you can. Otherwise, any person with average intelligence will lose interest...if you have time to think about the Plot you wil realize that "24" is really just a TV Comic Book: Superhero against SuperVillain... it is Fantasy with a big dose of Violence...and that's what the viewing public seems to want.
