The Power, The Passion, The Glory ~ Welcome To The Xenaverse! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Yes, 'Xena: Warrior Princess' is truly a television series for the ages. While her adventures and exploits may range from the exhilarating to the absurd and the acting most of the time way over-the-top somehow, believe it or not, it was always tons of fun and the cast of characters where played to perfection by everyone involved.

Here it is, all six seasons of `Xena: Warrior Princess' just within your reach. Yes you could by a season or two separately but what would be the point? This is an evolving saga that has to be viewed in its entirety to be fully understood and appreciated. The action is fast and furious, the drama dark and foreboding, the comedy slapstick and the cast exceptional. There isn't a household on Olympus that doesn't own the complete set, shouldn't you?

Postscript: Thanks for the memories Lucy and Renee, I mean Xena and Gabrielle! Keep your fingers crossed for a television reunion special someday.

Excellent! =) 5 out of 5 stars.

Editorial Review:

Just four minutes into "Sins of the Past," the first episode of Xena, you'll gladly follow the warrior princess anywhere. Taking on a gang of marauders, she leaps onto an upright spear embedded in the ground and, with a cry of "Ai-yi-yi-yi-yi," does a circular wall of death on their chests. A syndication phenomenon, this audacious 1995 series was a spin-off from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Lucy Lawless stars as Xena, dressed to kill in leather and breastplate. Her exploits are legend: "She came down out of the sky in a chariot throwing thunderbolts and breathing fire," remarks one awestruck boy in the first episode. Xena wants to bury her violent past, but there is no rest for the formerly wicked as she takes up arms (and feet) against any number of villains and mythological beasts. She is joined by Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor), a young peasant woman who "is not cut out for this village life," and runs away from home to join Xena in her adventures.

As the series evolved, speculation was rife about the true nature of their relationship. Playful and provocative teasers in several of these episodes give this first season an unexpected erotic charge, as witness "Altared States," in which the two skinnydip, and later, a drugged Gabrielle, revived by Xena, looks upon her and gushes, "By the gods! You are beautiful." Other memorable episodes include "Callisto," which introduces the vengeful female warrior who would further bedevil Xena in seasons to come; "Prometheus," in which Kevin Sorbo guest stars as Hercules; "Chariots of War," in which Xena wears a dress (!), and "Warrior...Princess," in which Xena trades places with her look-alike, a Princess named--yes--Diana, who is the target of assassins. By the gods, Xena is an absolute hoot whose pleasures--stylized action sequences, cheesy special effects, tongue-in-cheek anachronistic dialogue--are anything but guilty ones. Clumsy packaging, lack of commentary, and less than pristine picture quality are minor drawbacks to this otherwise thrilling set. --Donald Liebenson

"Mortality Stinks" ~ Nothing Lasts Forever 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

With the Olympian Gods out of the picture Xena turns her attention to the villains of the faith of Eli (i.e.: Jesus) and the angelic and demonic realms inhabiting the ever evolving heavenlies. Who could've guessed what a pivotal role the Warrior Princess was to play in the re-visioning of the new, reigning spiritual paradigm. How about starting out the sixth and last season of this highly entertaining though farfetched series with the ousting Mephistopheles from the throne of Hell?

This is only the first of many outrageous steps taken by the Warrior Princess. Not willing to ascend (on second thought descend is probably the more accurate word) to the vacated throne herself, she lures the proud Lucifer into assuming the position. Whether you're a hardcore Xena fan or just a casual viewer sooner or later you have to ask yourself the question "is there no limit to what the Warrior Princess can accomplish in this world or any other for that matter? The answer is apparently not.

Yes, `Xena: Warrior Princess' is truly a television series for the ages. While her adventures and exploits may range from the absurd to the incomprehensible and the acting most of the time way over-the-top somehow believe it or not it was always tons of fun and the cast of characters where played to perfection by everyone involved. Thanks for the memories Lucy and Renee, I mean Xena and Gabrielle! Unfortunately nothing lasts forever.

Editorial Review:

This classic series-ending collection highlights the show's mastery at mixing mythic gods and ghastly beasts. These wildly imaginative storylines are brought to vivid life through the dynamic performances of Lucy Lawless as the indomitable Xena and Renee O'Connor as her loveably irrepressible companion. For fans of the Warrior Princess, Xena's sixth and final season is an unforgettable curtain call.

"It's Callisto, She's Out!" ~ Two, Two, Two Warrior Princesses In One 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The year '95 marked the second season of the wildly success 'Xena: Warrior Princess'. There were undoubtedly numerous reasons for the rapidly growing cult following associated with this television series. It was a dark, mythic journey populated with the ancient Gods and Goddesses of Greece, a fast paced action adventure, a "jiggle show" for the high testosterone crowd, a girl power advocate and a cutting edge gender statement which constituted a surprising large portion of its admiring, devoted fan base. Add to the mix a newly introduced tongue and cheek aspect to the always clever story lines and you had a little something for everybody!

One of the big pluses for me in season two was the expanded use of Xena's foil Callisto played to absolute perfection by Hudson Leick. I enjoyed how they pulled a rather ingenious body switch between the two arch-rivals to cover up for the brief absence of Lucy Lawless. While Lucy was and will always be the personification of the fictitious Xena, it was rather intriguing to watch how Hudson Leick interpreted the role.

My Rating: -4 1/2 Stars-.

"There's A War Going On Between Good And Evil" ~ Xena Died For Our Sins 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Xena never ceases to amaze me. After four previous seasons you would think you've just about seen all the possible marvelous deeds of the beautiful and deadly Warrior Princess wouldn't you? Well not so, imagine Xena as an Archangel fighting beside the highly esteemed Michael, or maybe an Arch Demon battling the forces of good for ownership of heaven. It could never happen you say? You'd be wrong, in `Fallen Angel' the first episode of season five she does both after being crucified on a cross. What does that dying on a cross part remind you of? I shouldn't say it but I simply cannot resist, Xena died for our sins.

And that's just to wet the appetite in a season that sees the redemption of Callisto, the birth of Xena's baby girl, a twenty-five year hibernation period for the Warrior Princess and side-kick Gabrielle catapulting them into the future, the death of Joxer, hearing Ares say "I love you" and the demise of the Olympian God's. If that's not enough to make you buy this 9 disc set what is it going to take?

"Gabrielle Awoke With A Jerk" ~ A Bitter Suite Collection? 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Season three was really a mixed bag airing episodes with multiple, naked, dancing Gabrielle's, a story line involving three distinctly different roles all played by Lucy Lawless (A.K.A.: Xena), more Callisto (love that woman) and a musical extravaganza which I still haven't recovered from. Whatever it was the producers where definitely doing something right because the series continued to grow in popularity. The great thing about owning the whole season on DVD it that it allows you to watch an episode to fit your mood; comedy, drama, etc... Maybe it's a acquired taste but it all works for me!

Fun show 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a really fun show, some episodes are just hillarious, some are more serious. However, i'm really starting to dislike Gabrielle's character with her "hollier than thou" attitude and superior moral values. She betrayed Xena more than once because of her naive outlook of the world but they still remained very close friends. They show is really politically correct sometimes, the writers use a lot of modern pop culture.

A disappointment compared to Season Three 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Although the production values for XENA went up in Season Four -- with consistently more complex camera angles and better and more interesting sets and effects -- and despite the fact that the season ended and began on high notes, as a whole Season Four was something of a disappointment compared with Season Three. That season had a number of excellent dramatic episodes, but even more a large number of superb comic episodes. But while Season Four had some good comic episodes, they were fewer and farther between than in Season Three.

Part of the problem in Season Four was a story arc that took Xena and Gabrielle to India. Though there was a lot of potential there, the actual episodes in India were rather disappointing. The most important thing was clearly meeting Eli, who would play an ongoing role through the rest of Season Four and into Season Five. Another problem for me personally in the season was the loss of Callisto (for the most part) as Xena's main antagonist and her replacement by Alti, who I never came to like.

The beginning of Season Four, however, was extraordinary, as Xena makes a journey to the Amazon equivalent of the afterlife in search of Gabrielle, who she believes had died in the closing moments of Season Three. She is given a series of visions while there of her time with Gabrielle, including one where Gabrielle, while being crucified by the Romans, looks up at her and tells her that she loves her. This was clearly not a memory, so Xena concludes that Gabrielle is in fact still alive. While this is good news, the rest of the season is clouded by the fact that Xena fears that the two of them eventually face crucifixion. While most of the rest of Season Four is somewhat flat, it ends spectacularly with the culmination of the Caesar story. "The Ides of March" easily goes down as one of the five best episodes of XENA, if not the best. But I must qualify. It, unfortunately, was not the final episode of the season. The last was one of the worst episodes of the series, "Deja Vu All Over Again." In it we see Lucy Lawless waking up in a modern bed with Ted Raimi (Joxer). She is convinced she is Xena and that she must be the Xena vigilante who is going about town solving crime. Convinced that she was Xena in a previous life she and her boyfriend go to a past lives counselor (Renee O'Connor) who hypnotizes her. Eventually, Lawless realizes that she was not Xena, but Joxer while Raimi realizes that he was Xena. O'Connor turns out to be Gabrielle. Despite some good occasional comic moments (such as Lucy Lawless leaving the office singing her own version of the Joxer song) it was a terrible end to the season.

The good news is that Season Five would be a big improvement.

Season 5 and 6 heavy? 2 out of 5 stars.
18 of 21 people found this review helpful.

I cannot help but say I'm suprised by this. The earlier seasons (1/2/3) are almost universally accepted as the best by the fans - and we only get a single season 2 episode in this collection?? This is not even close to what I'd assemble as an "essential" list. Season 4 I can understand, as that was not well accepted overall. I guess I just find it hard to believe that this is truly representative of fan desires (and I've been a huge Xena fan since the show's start.) Perhaps the fans shouldn't have been involved at all! A list of shows showing Xena's evolution, starting with her appearance on Hercules, and ending with her death - and all comedy and non-arc stories generally excluded - would have gone a lot farther.

Editorial Review:

In Sins of the Past she was reborn. In A Friend in Need she was laid to rest. What happened during the years in between is what creates a legend. And it took you, the fans, to create this box-set. You selected the episodes that best documented Xena and Gabrielle's journeys, their adventures, and their friendship. You showed us what it meant to be Xena fans. So for you, we have developed this ultimate 10th Anniversary Xena Collection.

Great 3 Episodes but you Save Money by Buying the First Season 1 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I love these three epsidoes which introduced Xena and they are essentail if you are a Hercules or Xena fan. If you want to buy them though I would suggest buying the complete first season of Hercules. You get five full tv movies, these three episodes, and ten more episodes for fifteen dollars. You save eight dollars and you get so much more.

good episodes, overpriced 3 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

These 3 episodes of Hercules the Legendary journeys are available here for one price, but are also available as part of Hercules Season One for a lower price, (plus you get the rest of the season) and you can see the episodes in context. Also Herc season 1 contains 5 tv movies, 3 of which are really quite good. (the 1st is a bit weak and the 5th is a re-hash of the other four) Movie 1 has Lucy Lawless in a non-xena bit part, and Movie 2 has Renee O'Connor in a featured role. So if you get that set you'll get everything you get here, plus a lot more stuff, and it is A LOT CHEAPER.

What a terrible ending! 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have been and still am a loyal fan of Xena and Gabrielle. Let me remind those who liked the ending of something. Real Life is full of saddness, misery, loss and tragedy. We watch TV and movies to escape reality. Xena was a tragic figure in the beginning of her life. She killed for little or no reason. But she saw that she was wrong. She changed her ways and fought for justice. There is no way to bring those killed back to life. But Xena repented and devoted her life to fight for good. She risked her life many times in order to save the lives of countless others. (Let those without sin throw the first stone) We need a heroine like Xena. We want to see that those in the "white hats" win and the bad guys in the "black hats" lose. I know that reality does not work out that way many times. But Xena was different. She is special. I think it is most digusting, very tragic and pathetic that Xena had to die. And if dying wasn't enough, beheading her made my stomach turn. I own the entire series. But I will never, ever watch the last episode again.
I gave this two stars because Xena's tragic and unnecessary death puts a blemish on the whole series.
