Editorial Review:

There's plenty to like about Hawaii Five-0, the late '60s cop show debuting on DVD by way of this seven-disc set including all episodes from the first season, along with the two-hour pilot that preceded it. Like the music, featuring Morton Stevens' popular theme song. Or the lovely Hawaiian scenery. And let's not forget "Book 'em, Danno," the signature line delivered (although not nearly as frequently as one might expect) by star Jack Lord's Steve McGarrett, not to mention Lord's perfect hair and wrinkle-free slacks. As for everything else, let's just say that Hawaii Five-0 has not aged well. Some of that is inevitably due to the infinitely more sophisticated production values of the series that have followed in its wake; Five-0's technology, sets, and other practical elements are laughably primitive by current standards. Problem is, the cheese factor extends to pretty much every other aspect of the show as well. Most of the action sequences are utterly tension-free, and the pace is frequently glacial, with interminable scenes bogged down by talky exposition. The dialogue is risible: McGarrett refers to one adversary as "a dirty, double-dealing fink," while the so-called hippies who populate the islands utter the kind of idiocies that could only have been written by cubes whose closest contact with the counterculture came from TV commercials for Hai Karate men's cologne ("Looks like splittin' the scene was real cool, baby" is but one egregious example). Lord does a decent job as the stiff-but-heroic McGarrett, variously described as "a hardhead," "an organizational misfit," "a brilliant operator," and "a rebel," but by and large the acting (including guest shots by Sal Mineo, Ricardo Montalban, Gavin MacLeod, and Yaphet Kotto) is wooden. Story-wise, "Cocoon," the pilot, features an intriguing premise wherein U.S. intelligence agents undergo sensory-deprivation torture before spilling their secrets; elsewhere, the elite Five-0 team deals with jewel thieves, gold smugglers, kidnappers, gamblers, murderers, mobsters, all-purpose "criminal masterminds," and even "Red agents" spreading the bubonic plague. In sum: with its light (if not quite frothy) tone, Hawaii Five-0 will offer harmless escapism to some viewers, especially those with a nostalgic bent. Others, however, will long for more substantial fare--you know, like Deal or No Deal. The DVD set includes a single bonus feature: "Emme's Island Moments: Memories of Hawaii Five-O," a retrospective with James "Danno" MacArthur and other cast and crew members. --Sam Graham

This is one of the best classic cartoons. I used to get up at 5 am on Saturday's, I would have to set my alarm to get up, to watch them. I love the old cartoons. I can't wait to share them with my children. I would love for them to know where comics started and came from.

One of my favorite Shows when I was a kid! 5 out of 5 stars.

I really enjoyed this show when I was a kid in the 1960's, and now it's really nice to be able to see it IN LIVING COLOR! (We had Black & White TV in those days!) Brings back nostalgic memories being able to see show again. I was especially watching in this season for the episode involving the "KirWard Derby" (that may have been a veiled tribute to show creator J. Ward) but back in the 1960's there was a Morning TV Talk Show Host named "Dirwood Kirby" and I remember reading in the paper back then that Dirwood Kirby sued J. Ward Productions for allegedly slandering his name! I wonder if they had to change some of the plot, because it's not quite the way I remembed it! Anyway, hope SONY will release Season Four soon!

Really love having this Series in a complete set. Like I read in a previous review before buying...Not totally crazy about the packaging. The disks come in an accordion like sleeve that's a really flimsy thin cardboard. Seems like it would come apart very easily if not handled with care. As long as I keep my kids away from it, it should be OK. Otherwise, I have no problems with it.

BUNCH OF FUN! 5 out of 5 stars.

Oh My nose! Marcia Marcia Marcia. Goodnight Mr. And Mrs. Brady. Baby Talk Baby Talk It's A Wonder You Can Walk. Come On Chicken. Pork Chops And Apple Sauce, Isn't That Swell? I could go on....do I need to say more? Bloody Brilliant Classics for the whole dang family. My kids love it!

The first season blows, the rest pretty good. 4 out of 5 stars.

The Brady Bunch - The Complete Series is highly entertaining for the whole family. I never cared for the 1st season, the kids were really annoying and pathetic especially Marsha and Bobby. I think the last 2 seasons were the real gems but just like everyone I didn't like Oliver, what a pest!! If you enjoyed watching this classic on t.v. then might as well buy the whole series, have a ball with this one!

Editorial Review:

If you look at the premise of Here Come the Brides on paper, the whole series sounds rather bizarre: three brothers head East to find 100 young women who agree to move to untamed Seattle to marry the single men in town. The potential brides have to remain in Seattle for at least a year. If they don't, the siblings could lose their family business. But this show isn't set in a society where there's a Starbucks on every corner. Rather, it takes place in the late 19th century. Add some sassy dialogue and throw in Bobby Sherman and David Soul as youngest brother Jeremy and middle brother Joshua, respectively, and voila! The show evokes charming innocence, if not antiquated notions of how the sexes should behave. The episode in which a visiting Mormon bogarts four of the women for his own brides isn't so much shocking as it is curious. Why aren't the local men more worked up that this could cause some of their own to be without brides?

The series, which lasted just two seasons, premiered on television in 1968 and helped springboard Sherman into a teen idol. The acting on the show by Sherman and his cast mates at times is self-conscious and stilted, but they share good chemistry and have fun with the scripts. One of the better-thought-out episodes aired early in the season. Jeremy's stuttering is miraculously cured by a charismatic magician (played by the late Jack Albertson, who ate up the scenery with relish), who turns out to be somewhat of a charlatan. The ending drives the point home that Jeremy needed as much faith in himself as he had in the magician. Like the series itself, yes, the sentiment is predictable. But it still makes for good TV. --Jae-Ha Kim

A Television Landmark 5 out of 5 stars.

For Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz fans, the 1954-55 season of "I Love Lucy" represents the legendary series at its creative apex. The Hollywood episodes with Harpo Marx, William Holden, Richard Widmark and Hedda Hopper are always worth revisiting. As long as television exists, "I Love Lucy" will remain an integral part of the medium. "The Complete Fourth Season" belongs in everyone's classic DVD library.

i love lucy the best season ever!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Lucille Ball at her finest. She's showing the audience in season four she has horned her craft and comedic talents. Lucy holds her own with John Wayne, dancing with Van Johnson, and making us laugh til our sides ache with the Richard Widmark grapefruit!!" Last but not least
is the segment with the harp playing Harpo Marks and lucy as his double
worth the price of this season dvd set. This season is a must have for the true die hard "I love lucy " fan. This is also a great season to
discover lucy for the first time.

Editorial Review:

Along with Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Avengers practically defined British cult television, and it was never better than during the three years that Diana Rigg's Emma Peel character tossed out her witty barbs and karate kicks. The supercool 2006 edition of The Complete Emma Peel Megaset encompasses all 51 episodes from 1965-66 (in black and white) and 1967 (in color) plus a new bonus disc, all in 17 space-saving Thinpaks. Paired with Patrick Macnee as the dapper, umbrella-wielding John Steed, Rigg's Mrs. Peel turned heads with her sexy outfits, then broke skulls of the various would-be world-dominating bad guys who crossed her path. Like the mixed crime-fighting teams who came after them in shows like Moonlighting and The X-Files, Steed and Mrs. Peel had a constant platonic playfulness. In one episode when Mrs. Peel is working undercover at a department store, Steed drops in for a visit, remarking, "They told me 'Mrs. Peel is in Ladies Underwear.' I rattled up the stairs three at a time." However, unlike their spiritual successors, Steed and Mrs. Peel never jumped the shark; instead she bid a fond farewell as she passed the torch to Steed's next partner, Tara King (Linda Thorson), just as she had been passed the torch from Honor Blackman. (Blackman left her Kathy Gale character to go on to fame as Pussy Galore in Goldfinger--in one episode, Steed receives a postcard from Gale sent from Fort Knox.) But although Macnee had some enjoyable moments with other partners throughout the series' run, it's the Emma Peel years that fans remember most fondly, not only for the great chemistry between the lead actors, but the superb writing and distinctly British, and distinctly '60s, quirky charm.

The 216-minute bonus disc is the new addition to the 2006 set. Completists will appreciate the "lost" episodes from the first season. Of the very first episode, "Hot Snow," however, only the first 15 minutes were recovered. "Girl on the Trapeze" features a vanilla-esque Ian Hendry as Dr. David Keel investigating the death of a circus performer, while "The Frighteners" perks things up considerably with the addition of Macnee's Steed character, who displays a bit of the comedic twinkle that would be the cornerstone of the series through its entire run. All in all, the episodes aren't nearly as watchable as the peak years of the series. Of greater interest to fans is "Avenging the Avengers," a 1992 documentary recapping the series through clips and interviews with Macnee, crew members, and actresses Honor Blackman (Cathy Gale, 1962-64) and Linda Thorson (Tara King, 1968-69). Diana Rigg appears briefly in older interview footage. The documentary lasts 25 minutes, and an additional nine minutes of interviews are added to the end. There's also a three-minute promotional film that Macnee and Rigg made to promote the series' switch from black and white to color, an alternate opening sequence, and a 1977 episode in which Mrs. Peel makes a cameo appearance. The bonus disc is also available separately for those who already have the 2001 Megaset and don't want to upgrade just for the sake of saving shelf space. --David Horiuchi

The Flinstones TV series 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I have loved the Flinstones since I was a child & was very happy to hear about a complete set. I had never seen them on discs before this set, which I'm now finding out that was available a while back. I've only had a chance to watch the 1st season & I love it. My kids & I have had lots of laughs over it. I like the storage case it's in & even like the little booklets that hold the DVDs because they remind you of story books. However, I don't like the little booklets for holding my DVDs. I had a hard time removing them all from the sleeves when I received it. I have hard cases & another container that I placed them all in (24 cases I believe). I don't want my DVDs scratched & that's what's going to happen if I leave them in the sleeves they sent them in. I thought that was cheaply & poorly done. Looks like they could have created the same style in a hard DVD cases with lock in holders instead of cheap cardboard that just slides in. If they had of been packaged right, I would have given them 5 stars, but I'm rating it 4 stars because of packaging & almost leaned toward 3 stars.
