Overpriced for the number of episodes 2 out of 5 stars.
13 of 14 people found this review helpful.

I rather like "Private Practice". It's often implausible, but that's one of the features of escapist entertainment. The cast is talented and attractive. I'm looking forward to watching the new season. But I can't give this first DVD set a good review, because it just isn't a good value.

Due to the writers' strike, Season One of "Private Practice" only had 9 episodes. A normal season is 22 shows. But this collection's list price is the same as for a full season. The producers, having taken a major financial hit by not having as much advertising revenue as expected, are trying to recoup some of their costs from us by overpricing this set. I can't condone that.

I rate this collection 3-4 stars for quality, but only 0-1 stars for value. That gives a combined rating of 2 stars: disappointing.

Excellent Show! 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a fantastic show! I got hooked on it last year and rented the previous seasons. I bought season 4 and will have to purchase the rest too. I agree, the music is a little annoying...I too want to hear what they do. The other thing I didn't like is the case the DVD's come in. They are kind of hard to pop out being stacked together. It's not a normal DVD case. Love the show though. Can't wait to see more. :0

Ghost Hunters & Ghost Adventures 5 out of 5 stars.

Great shows! "Ghost Hunters" is more like a comedy with Steve & Tango but "Ghost Adventures" is darker and 10 time scarier! Check it out on the Travel Channel all NEW every Friday at 9pm Eastern Time 60 min.

I watch the Walton's almost every morning and have seen all the shows numerous times...but still I need to have these DVD series just in case they should ever go off tv. I think they are one of the best family value shows that were ever on tv.

The Next-to-Last Season comes home in Early 2009. 5 out of 5 stars.

Warner Bros. is on the right track for The Waltons, when they release season 8 in Early 2009!

The Waltons will have only one season left to be released, after season 8.

Hopefully, Waltons The Complete 9th Season (1980-1981), which will the last DVD set, gets released in the spring of 2009!

Please release the final 2 seasons in 2009, Warner Bros.!

The Waltons, World War, and more Change 4 out of 5 stars.
15 of 15 people found this review helpful.

Season Eight was a particular interesting year for The Waltons. Michael Learned (Olivia) returned for twelve episodes, Ellen Corby is seen in fewer episodes as Grandma, and Robert Wightman makes his first appearance as John-Boy; replacing Richard Thomas for the rest of the series.

Despite these things, the show still retained its family values, and appeal. The season begins with World War II raging, John-Boy is missing in action, Jason is in charge of recruits, and Olivia struggles to keep up with her changing family. Erin, Elizabeth, and Mary Ellen do their best to help in the war effort, and Ben and Cindy have their first baby.

When Olivia leaves to go back to the Sanitorium, Rose--a close family member--comes to help with the needs of the family. Jason befriends a woman named Toni (his future wife), and Jim-Bob finishes flight school and heads to war as a pilot.

The following is a list of the 24 episodes of this season:

1. The Home Front (1)
2. The Home Front (2)
3. The Kinfolk
4. The Diploma
5. The Innocents
6. The Starlet
7. The Journal
8. The Lost Sheep
9. The Violated (1)
10. The Waiting (2)
11. The Silver Wings
12. The Wager
13. The Spirit
14. The Fastidious Wife
15. The Unthinkable
16. The Idol
17. The Prodigals
18. The Remembrance
19. The Inspiration
20. The Last Straw
21. The Traveling Man
22. The Furlough
23. The Medal
24. The Valediction

While it is true that by this point in the show, some of the quality was degrading. But, for a true fan, this season is a Godsend.

Season Two arrived today. I watched the episode Kathy Makes Magic. Its great. Uncut with fine video and audio. Much improved over the quality of Season One. As many times as I've seen this episode it was a real treat seeing scenes I'd never seen before.

Editorial Review:

Robert Young returns to the head of the dinner table to play the patriarch of America s most beloved family in Season Two of Father Knows Best.

During Season Two a growing number of families were tuning in to see what kind of trouble Bud (Billy Gray) was going to get into next, how Kathy (Lauren Chapin) was handling growing up, whether Betty (Elinor Donahue) and her boyfriend would breakup and how Margaret (Jane Wyatt) would inevitably hold the family together. A day in the life of the Andersons was a 1950s suburban dream come true.

Keeps getting better and better 4 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Showtime's Irish answer to The Sopranos; Brotherhood manages to get better and better with each passing episode, and the second season is no different. Picking up a while after the first season concluded, season two begins with the Caffee family picking up the pieces. Michael (Jason Isaacs) is recovering from the brutal beating he took at last season's finale, and coping with the unexpected mental side effects to boot, all the while still trying to stay in the semi-good graces of crime boss Freddie Cork (Kevin Chapman). His politician brother Tommy (Jason Clarke) continues the campaign trail, and is drawn further and further away from his wife Eileen (Annabeth Gish) after learning of her infidelities. Things get even more complicated for the Caffee's when their estranged Irish cousin Colin (Brian F. O'Byrne) returns to The Hill to reconnect with the family, much to the chagrin of Michael and Tommy's mother Rose (the excellent Fionnula Flanagan). Also in this season, we witness the descent of cop Declan (Ethan Embry) whose life continues to spiral out of control. While there isn't anything on Brotherhood that hasn't been seen before, it still manages to provide plenty of entertainment for fans of gangster crime-dramas and back-office politics. Not to mention that by the time the season concludes, you'll be salivating for more. All in all, Brotherhood still manages to get better and better with each passing episode, and here's hoping that the best is yet to come.

Buyer Beware, Faulty Disks! 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is an EXCELLENT SERIES! Like others I absolutely recommend purchasing any of the series. However, I wanted to offer a warning.

I have all of the seasons. I received them all from Amazon (most were Christmas gifts).

4 of the sets had defective disks. There would be at least one episode that you could not play without it skipping. Please make sure you watch the episodes completely within the 30 return period to be sure that there are no defective disks. Amazon is very good about replacing the set if there are defects but there is a time limit. It is hard to get through 20+ hours of tv watching in 30 days!

Also- Sets 1-3 (and maybe 4) have programming on both sides of the disks. Seasons 1 & 2 are my favorites and have been watched many times. Over time the disks seem to "split" in the center and skipping occurs now throughout the programming. There are no scratches on the disks and the skipping is inconsistant (always happens on the disks now, but not always in the same place).

This issue does not seem to occur with the later sets (programming only on one side). There is no way to replace the disks once this starts happening. If you have a way to "backup" the first few sets I would recommend it if you plan to watch them often. Not an issue if you are only likely to watch them once.

I'm pre-ordering with an optimistic outlook! 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

First off, Emergency! is big favorite of mine as is all Webb TV; as in actor, director Jack Webb. With four season sets out, things were looking good when season 3 was released. Then came season 4 with most episodes looking like they were mastered from a 25 year-old VHS rental.

When Universal successfully farmed out season 2 of Adam-12 to SHOUT! Factory, we all had hope that possibly Dragnet and Emergency! and other Webb projects would follow suit. BUT, let us all have a bit of faith in the suits at Universal for a proper DVD release. Perhaps the massive fire experienced at Universal Studios will guide the powers to be in releasing pristine remastered episodes of a classic TV treasure.

Great show 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I was torn on the number of stars I was going to give this season because I have not watched this season on DVD. Its been what seems to be a life time ago that I watched the new season on TV. I was maybe 6 or so.

This is an awesome show. The acting in here by John and Roy is outstanding. Now when I watch the show, im watching and have that kid feeling inside again. Im also watching this show as an EMT. And as I watch John and Roy, their motions as they are working on a patient are exact and looks as if they are in real life, paramedics.

Another reason why I didn't put the fifth star on is the anticipation of the lesser quality there seems to be over other DVD sets.
The quality isn't such that had I gotten to preview the first 4 seasons that it would have stopped me from buying the other seasons. You have some spots where the lighting isn't good, sometimes the sound is a bit flat. To me, still well worth owning and not in such poor quality that you can not enjoy the show. The packaging is really good. DVD's are not able to flop around.

My 12 year old daughter loves the show also. I wonder if she will follow her mom's foot prints and become an EMT.
