Good, not great 4 out of 5 stars.

Season Two of Heroes is a good season, but not a great season. It pales in comparison to the second season. I will put this blame on the writer's strike that occurred at the time. Overall, I would still recommend this season to anyone.

Really enjoyed it 4 out of 5 stars.

I caught up on all my Heroes viewing in two nights. How awesome is that. I can't wait for the Season 3 DVD.

LOVE THIS SHOW 5 out of 5 stars.

The only problem I have with this installment to the series, Is that it is too short. (It is only really a half season do to the writers strike) It had been so long I actually went and watched the first season again to refresh what happened. I watched this entire set of disks in a single day. I couldn't stop till it was all watched.

Editorial Review:

DEXTER is a crime drama about Dexter Morgan a man who leads a double life as an incredibly likeable forensics expert for the Miami Police Department and as an emotionless vigilante serial killer. Taught by his foster father to harness his lust for blood and killing Dexter lives by his own strict moral code - he only kills murderers who can't otherwise be brought to justice. Dexter is a killer who grapples with fitting into society while at the same time he struggles with his inability to feel emotion. The irony of Dexter's life is that he works closely as a blood splatter analyst with the very people who hunt his kind - the homicide department. Dexter's "Regular Joe" front is in full force while working alongside the ill-tempered Sgt. James Doakes who seems to be the only one to sense Dexter's more sinister side and Lt. Maria LaGuerta the head of the division who pursues Dexter sexually with as much force as she would any criminal. While his sister Debra Morgan a tough and determined cop leans on Dexter for personal advice and career advancement the closest one Dexter "connects" with is Det. Angel Batista whose similar attention to detail and taste for forensics almost mirrors his own. While sentiment and feelings elude Dexter he struggles to find a kindred spirit of sorts in his emotionally damaged girlfriend Rita who keeps him grounded in the realities of "normal" life and provides him respite from the dark corners of his mind. The series is based on the acclaimed novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay.System Requirements:Running Time: 636 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 097368925144 Manufacturer No: 892514

Pushing Daisies' Macabre Magic 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

From ISawLightningFall.com

At first blush, ABC's Pushing Daisies seems a little too precious for its own good. You notice it first in the cinematography, so bursting with color it's almost eye-searing. Then there's the omniscient narrator who sounds as though he's reading from Grimm's Fairy Tales and who almost always refers to characters by their professions. Hence, the show's protagonist, Ned, becomes The Piemaker since he peddles goodie-filled pastries from a restaurant called The Pie Hole. That's not all Ned -- excuse me -- The Piemaker does. He investigates mysterious deaths with a knitting detective named Emerson and dodges the affections of his love-struck employee Olive. Also, he pines after his childhood sweetheart Charlotte (or Chuck, as he prefers to call her), who he can never have because of a deadly secret.

Sound too saccharine? A little self-consciously screwy? It would be, except for that part about Ned's talent. You see, he can raise the dead. Murders are much easier to solve when you talk with the victims afterward. One touch from Ned and they're alive. Another and they're dead again. But if they stay in this mortal coil for more than a minute, someone else must shuffle it off. He's raised and put down a ghastly menagerie. A businessman mauled by a rottweiler. A pilot thrown through a plane's windshield during a crash. A student incinerated in an explosion. But there's one victim he can't bear to touch a second time, a lonely tourist who was strangled on a cruise ship. That victim is Chuck.

Combining mirth and the macabre is tough, but Pushing Daisies pulls it off. It also provides something of an object lesson. Be it dark or light, an overly narrow tonal range hampers a story, thinning its audience and stripping it of conflict. Why care if you immediately know the perky blonde will win the hunk with little fight or end up disemboweled by the creeping horror? Variation makes things interesting. Marrying opposites sometimes makes them compelling.

Editorial Review:

Every not-so-often, along comes a show that's different. Wonderfully different. Pushing Daisies, TV Guide's Matt Roush writes, "restores my faith in TV's ability to amuse, enchant and entertain." It's the story of Ned, a lonely pie maker whose touch can reanimate the dead. Cool, but there's a hitch. If Ned touches the person again, the miracle is reversed. If he doesn't, a bystander goes toes up. What to do? Easy: Team with a private eye, bring murder victims back just long enough to discover whodunit, and collect the rewards. Things go well until Ned's boyhood sweetie is the next dear departed, and he can't resist bringing her back for keeps! Dig the wit, style and quirky romance: If you're not laughing, you may need a visit from Ned.

A bit overpraised, but a great show nonetheless 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Standing out against a backdrop containing a depressing number of boring sitcoms, brain-dead reality shows, and interchangeable law-enforcment procedurals, Mad Men is the kind of show that's been hastening my abandonment of network TV over the past several years. Chronicling a year (roughly) in the life of Madison Avenue ad agency Sterling Cooper, Mad Men enfolds an unapologetic look at early-1960's American society into an intelligent and occasionally comedic drama series. While the massive buzz might suggest otherwise, Mad Men is not in fact the best thing to happen to TV since color--the pacing could use some work, and the dialogue isn't always as clever or profound as it's obviously meant to be--but it's still nice to see a show this unabashedly cool and thoroughly absorbing. Largely forgoing contrived plot twists and tiresome histrionics, the show instead breezes by on its unforced charm and subtle character dynamics. Much has been made of the Mad Men's exacting recreation of a bygone era, and that attention to detail spills into every aspect of the show, giving it a colorful, vivid look and feel unlike anything else on TV. Even when the characters aren't doing anything consequential, as in a late-season episode showing the staff killing time during the presidential election with the bosses gone, it's a blast just to watch them hang out.

Like many of the best shows of the past decade or so (think The Shield, The Wire, The Sopranos, etc.), Mad Men manages to juggle multiple plot and character arcs, generally bringing things along slowly until the pace accelerates in the wrenching final few episodes. At the same time, its novel setting in the early 1960's and its high levels of personal, professional ,and sexual intrigue ensure that it manages to stand on its own as a compelling watch. Especially fascinating is seeing the freewheeling portrayal of behaviors now considered archaic if not outright evil: rampant adultery and sexist objectification, smoking (even during pregnancy!), drunk driving, and, in one strangely alluring scene, the main character's mega-babe wife shooting the neighbor's birds in her backyard while puffing away on a cigarette. Even though the show depicts a great deal of what would now be considered misbehavior, it never passes judgment on its characters or their era, nor does it engage in pointless nostalgia. It just presents likeably flawed characters living by the conventions of a different time and leaves viewers to judge for themselves.

While Mad Men does an admirable job of developing a sizeable ensemble cast(which has continued in its even better second season), there's no question that the central character in the drama is Don Draper, Sterling Cooper's vaguely mysterious creative director. Played in career-making fashion by the suitably stoic and square-jawed Jon Hamm, Don is easily one of the most unpredictable and inscrutable leading men on TV, not quite a hero and not quite an anti-hero, but a compelling figure nonetheless. My wife succintly described him as a "jerk," and while that label isn't entirely inaccurate, the writers gradually fill in the details of Don's past and reveal what's going on beneath his seemingly soulless exterior. Even as he drinks heavily, cheats on his wife, and belittles subordinates, it's somehow easy to forgive Don his flaws, especially as the season wears on and the writers take us further into his head. Similarly, a collection of (somewhat) ancillary characters who may intially seem one-note--reserved secretary Peggy Olsen, hard-living boss Roger Sterling, Machiavellian striver Pete Campbell, seductive office manager Joan Holloway--have their own aspirations and internal conflicts come out over time.

Mixing single-episode plots with longer storylines, along with the running thread of the Nixon-Kennedy presidential race (with Sterling Cooper working for Nixon), Mad Men has a lot going on from the very first episode. For a show as busy and ambitious as it is, though, Mad Men remains extremely restrained and consistent, with few deviations from its focus on character and setting. I for one found the plots focusing on Don's home life and his romantic entanglements less interesting than the show's examination of the workings of a business circa 1960 and the psychological underpinnings of advertising, but pretty much everyone should be able to find something here to enjoy. Throughout its first season Mad Men keeps the complexity level high and rarely panders to its audience, which are qualities that just about everyone should be able to get behind.

Editorial Review:

Set in 1960 New York City Mad Men explores the glamorous and ego-driven "Golden Age" of advertising where everyone is selling something and nothing is ever what it seems. And no one plays the game better than Don Draper (Golden Globe - winner Jon Hamm) Madison Avenue's biggest ad man - and ladies man - in the business.System Requirements:Running Time: 600 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 031398229384 Manufacturer No: 22938

Disappointing third season 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Given the positive reviews and the first two seasons of this show, I was really excited about the third season coming out. Sadly, I think the show has lost a lot of what made it great. Seasons 1 and 2 were certainly outlandish, but (mostly) believable. The humor hinged on the character interactions and performances. Season 3 trades the sharp wit of seasons 1 and 2 for things like not funny stereotyped Koreans and unrealistic acid trips. Frank's character moves from being a sadistic/vitriolic/cowardly sob to nothing more than a clown.

So sad, hopefully they'll get back on track for the next season.

Technical Information vs. Season One 3 out of 5 stars.
10 of 15 people found this review helpful.

Brothers & Sisters Season Two is listed as having a Run Time of "1 minutes" as I write this review; this is clearly wrong. (The Season One DVD set is listed as having a Run Time of 988 minutes.)

Season One had 23 episodes. Season Two had only 16 due to the writers' strike. The Season One collection was on 6 discs. Season Two is on 5 discs. There's no advance information about what extras they added to the Season Two set, but logically you'd expect the price to be about 2/3 of that of Season One. That's not the case.

I won't go into details about the Season Two plot lines involving the faux Walker sibling; others can cover that. But based only on the amount of content versus the price of the set, I've got to say I'm disappointed.
