Of all the SNL videos, this one is definetely the best. No matter what skit Chris was in, he made it a classic. No matter what the price, I recommend this video!

Hysterical! 5 out of 5 stars.

When you need some humor and a good belly laugh in your day, watch this DVD. What a hysterical comic and a great loss to all of us. He left us with a legacy of laughter though in this sometimes "doom and gloom" world of ours. Laughter IS the best medicine. A must watch ! ! !

Comme ci, comme ca. 2 out of 5 stars.

This DVD was just so-so. There were a few skits that were funny, but the physical comedy thing wore on me. His shtick was that he was morbidly obese, which is not funny. I wish I had never bought it. It was a waste of money and a waste of my time.

Gotta love Chris 5 out of 5 stars.

Editorial Review:

Returning for a fourth season (1978-1979), the cast and writers of SNL maintained their reputation for hilarious characters and innovative sketch-comedy creating hits such as The Blues Brothers (John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd), Nick the Lounge Singer (Bill Murray), Candy Slice (Gilda Radner), The Loud Family (Jane Curtin), Fred Garvin: Male Prostitute (Dan Aykroyd), and The Nerds (Bill Murray and Gilda Radner). Other favorites include the return of iconic host Steve Martin (with Dan Aykroyd as the “wild and crazy” Festrunk Brothers) and Buck Henry’s inappropriate “Uncle Roy”. The complete fourth season of SNL features classic performances from hosts Fred Willard, Carrie Fisher, Kate Jackson, Milton Berle, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Elliott Gould, Frank Zappa, Gary Busey, and Walter Matthau. Unforgettable musical guests such as Peter Tosh, Mick Jagger, The Doobie Brothers, Bette Midler, Talking Heads, Devo, Van Morrison, Grateful Dead, Rickie Lee Jones, James Taylor, and the legendary Rolling Stones playing live from studio 8H.

SNL's best year 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

SNL was a very different show in its first five years from the show it would become. It did not pander to popular or dumbed-down tastes, nor was it an excuse for a modestly talented performer to plug their latest star vehicle. The show's third season displayed multiple talents reaching their peak, and the remarkable emergence of Bill Murray as a major comic actor. The musical guests are a truly colorful lot, rather than the flavor-of-the-week acts that are booked today. Most of all, this was the final year that the writing was shaped by the brilliant Michael O'Donoghue, and his hilariously dark perspective. The Robert Klein episode concludes with Mr. Mike's elaborate spoof of D-grade monster movies, "Attack of the Atomic Lobsters," which manages to send up Roger Corman, Orson Welles's "War of the Worlds," and the radio broadcast of the Hindenburg disaster, all at the same time. You'll never see anything as distinctive or daring as this on network TV again. This was also the year of the episode which many on the show considered their best ever, the April 1978 show hosted by Steve Martin. SNL defined comedy for at least a generation. Get this DVD box set and see why.

The Golden Era of 'Saturday Night Live'!!! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this 2 years ago, and I'm just now finishing it! These actors are extremely hilarious! Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, Laraine Newman, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris are awesome! I think Gilda Radner is so adorable, and very sexy! (It sucks that she's dead!) There are some pretty cool guest stars like Lily Tomlin, Candy Bergen, Desi Arnez, and much more! Chevy Chase is hilarious as always falling down and doing the news. If you love comedy, and these actors, you'll love SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON!!!

Just not that funny 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The first season of SNL is definitely a groundbreaker, but the truth is, it's just simply not that funny. Actually, the comedy is pretty much downright horrible; there's barely any real "laugh out loud" moments, just a few chuckles here and there. It really depends on how you want to view this - it's a great look at a young TV comedy cast in 1975 trying hard. Everyone keeps saying how great the first cast is - they're ok, but they do make a lot of mistakes. The highlight is definitely the musical guests and watching the guest hosts be themselves in 1975. So if you are looking at a trip back in time, it's definitely an ok viewing in short doses. But as comedy, it's bad. I also can't figure why the Amazon listing says the Louise Lasser episode is one of the show's worst ever - it didn't seem any worse than any of the other shows here! And she looked pretty hot! As did Loraine Newman - she looks downright sexy all over the place. But the show just isn't funny - and definitely not worth a lot of money, even with eight DVDs - I got this on sale here for 31 dollars and that seems about right, only because there are eight DVDs after all. I probably will pick up the other 70's seasons for the "time capsule" aspect when the price gets low enough for me. So again - great time capsule, mostly unfunny show.

"Death is just God's way of asking you out" 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

And who once said that on SNL, during one of the darker sketches of the show's classic second season? Gilda Radner. That's right. Gilda Radner...

"Saturday Night Live -- The Complete Second Season" continues the experience of "The Complete First Season", which often seemed like not just a sketch comedy show, but the saga of American life in the last quarter of the twentieth century and the personal journeys of its seven cast members. The journeys continue in this DVD boxed set. See Chevy Chase make the mistake that would blight his career by leaving SNL prematurely. Watch John Belushi's comic timing falter for the first time in over thirty episodes as he deals with having been kicked out by the woman he loved since high school -- then cheer as he returns to form, despite a knee injury, after winning her back and marrying her over the holidays. Thrill to the irony of rookie Bill Murray, destined someday to become one of the great legends of American comedy cinema, announcing to viewers that "I don't think I'm making it on the show."

And yet "The Complete Second Season" is also funny. Screamingly funny. And not just due to the classic sketches we've all seen over and over again, but due to many of the forgotten sketches as well. Belushi, Chase and Curtin filmed on location as Amish police officers. (What must that shoot have been like?) Aykroyd robbing a bank, ineffectually disguised with a stocking over his head and two oranges over his eyes. Newman as a bee, sucking pollen from a rose through a straw -- an image simultaneously amusing and poetic.

The music is also fabulous, even when it's bad. (Who exactly thought the McGarrigle Sisters were a viable music act?) An amazing number of musical guests actually perform their most famous songs, rather than insisting on less populist repertoire. George Harrison duets with Paul Simon on "Here Comes the Sun". The Kinks perform "You Really Got Me" and "Lola". And, strangest and most memorable of all, Brian Wilson performs "Good Vibrations" without the Beach Boys, without a theremin, with just himself and a piano.

"SNL -- The Complete Second Season" merits the same high recommendation from me as "The Complete First Season". Live from New York, there were giants in those days. And remember, "Don't shoot -- we're Siamese priests!"

Some of SNL's Funniest (When You Got a Hankerin' For Cowbell) 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

There's a reason why Chris Walken has an open invitation to host SNL any time he wants - the guy is hilarious! Certainly one of America's quirkiest actors, Walken delivers comedy in his typical deadpan style. There's just something about his delivery that makes him all the funnier.

Of course this DVD contains the infamous "more cowbell" sketch. However, it also contains one of my all-time favorite sketches featuring Tim Meaddows taking a census from Walken: Meaddows: "How long have you lived here?" Walken: "It's hard to say, what time is it?"

Also featured is the racy "Colonel Angus" sketch which had me in stiches.

Walken is great and rocks on SNL, but this DVD is a little disappointing 2 out of 5 stars.

He is great and has some of the funniest skits on SNL, but the DVD is missing some of is best and sadly it isn't as good as I was expecting, it is decent but could have had more of his best routines from SNL.

SNL- Best of Christopher Walken 5 out of 5 stars.

Watching this dvd, I had forgotten how funny Christopher Walken is. I loved the skit where he plays an angel dressed in black. I am really glad i bought this.

Leave Me Alone! Please Go Away! I'm Doing Fine ! Just Go Away! 4 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Each and every year, I look forward to SNL's holiday special. There are so many hilarious bits that've aired over the years that the show never disappoints. Naturally, when this DVD was made available, I bought it right away.

Now, for my money, this DVD is worth it for the "Dysfunctional Family Christmas Album" ad alone, but there are lots of other bits that are fantastic, too. Eddie Murphy's classic "Mr. Robinson" is great, as is Steve Martin's "Christmas Wish". No SNL Christmas DVD would be complete with Candace Bergen & Dan Aykroyd in "Consumer Probe" (featuring Dan Aykroyd as the head of Mainway Toys, makers of "Bag O' Glass" and "Johnny Switchblade: Adventure Punk"), or the original "Not Ready For Primetime Players" singing "Winter Wonderland". These sketches are featured along with Adam Sandler's "Hannukah Song" and Jon Lovitz in "Hannukah Harry" (yes, it IS on the DVD, contrary to some other reviews posted).

Like many other reviewers, I was very disappointed that the classic "Sweeney Sisters" Christmas sketch (featuring William Shatner) was not included. In my opinion, "The Sweeney Sisters" bit was one of the funniest things ever on SNL and to exclude this sketch from the DVD seems completely ridiculous. For this reason, I can't give the DVD full marks.

It's a great DVD, though, and I get a lot of laughs every time I watch it. Definitely worth the money.

Not really the best of Dana Carvey but still OK 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The title of the review pretty much says it all. While there are a few classic Dana Carvey skits on the DVD, it could have been much, much better. One big disappointment was the Hans and Franz skit. I always loved Hans and Franz, but the one chosen for the DVD is probably the least funny of that bit. Other skits are boring and not funny (as SNL has always been guilty of on a regular basis) but at least it does contain some of Carvey's best such as his George Bailey in the lost ending to It's a Wonderful Life (best Carvey skit ever!) It also has a Wayne's World skit that is not too bad, and the classic game show where he plays a contestant with ESP. These three final skits mentioned are what makes the DVD worth while and for basically $10 it's not a bad deal.

THIS is the best of Dana Carvey?! 3 out of 5 stars.

The video was ok, but I don't think they really included all his best skits.

Can't review, never received 1 out of 5 stars.

I ordered this DVD and several others as well as a few books. I was told the merchandise was sent back to Amazon. So, I called to buy the items again. Customer Service was WONDERFUL, they resent the merchandise out to me via a courier service. When alot of time passed and I hadn't receive my package, I called Amazon Customer Service again, who in turn, called the courier service. The courier service told Amazon that the package was lost. Can't talk about this product because I never received it. I have to check my credit card to ensure I was credited for the non-received merchandise.

How About A 'Best Of' SNL By Year? 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

How about making 'Best Of' Saturday Night Live by year? Not by host, not something with interviews and commentary, just best skits only and by year. Best of 1978, Best Of 1986, Best Of 1994, etc...

Eddie is wonderful!!! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I love this DVD... It shows the actual footage of Eddie's characters on SNL... **** The only thing that I did not like about this DVD is that it is only for an hour...

Eddie At His Best ! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is Eddie Murphy before all of the family friendly movies which have seemed to define his career as of late. This is an edgy & extremeley funny Murphy. Here are some highlights: There is the Eddie as Jessie Jackson, clamoring for Jewish votes in a very not so politically correct sketch. There is Eddie as BuckWheat which, while funny, also has a serious undertone concerning the sensationalization of topics in the media. There is Eddie as Velvet Jones, who simply wants to help women get out of their "ho-hum" lives and into meaning employment. There is Eddie as James Brown, and it's simply classic. There is Eddie as Stevie Wonder (and Joe Piscapoe as Frank Sinatra) in another classic skit. I dare you not to laugh! All in all, this is Eddie as a starving artist. During this period of his career, he pushed boundaries, made you think about some serious issues, and most importantly made you laugh!
