Excellent Series at a reasonable price 4 out of 5 stars.

The Wire: The Complete Series The HBO Series is an excellent show. Its not fast paced, but the acting and story lines keep your attention. I first bought season 1 and like the show enough to want to purchase the remaining 4 seasons. I purchased the first season at a retail store and paid more than 40% of what I paid for the complete five seasons series from Amazon. Good price for an entertaining series. I just wished I had know about the Complete Series Box Set before I bought that first season.

everything you wanted in a neat little package 5 out of 5 stars.

All seasons no fuss no frills, for those who are asking there are all languages and subtitles
and what a price

just buy it!!

the only critic i could bring to this utmost excellent series is the horrible intro music which seems to worsen as seasons progress

Mixed feelings on the packaging 5 out of 5 stars.

I don't find it necessary to detail what's so fascinating about The Wire; scroll up or down and you're likely to find short essays revealing just that. It's great. That's all you need to know, and if you don't own the series, buy it.

With that said, I'll join the chorus of people a little worried about the packaging. The set does indeed consist of cardboard sleeves. Though these cases are very slick and stylish, frequent use of them would likely cause damage to the business side of the DVDs. Soon, I fear, these discs may end up like my copy of "There Will Be Blood", which suffers a similar packaging plight. It's not all bad, though- it's a magnificent package, I'd say, considering alone that it manages to cram all 5 seasons and all 23 discs into a box not much larger than that of the original 1st season release, and look damned spiffy in the meanwhile.

I will note that upon first removal of the first season (which I absolutely must re-watch now that I've obtained the series at such a devilishly affordable price-tag), no scuffs or scratches are visible. I'll be adding pictures to the site in a day or two to give you non-owners an idea of what's great about the packaging, and what's not.

Once again, we hate when the season ends and we have to wait 9 months!!

Best TV shower EVER 5 out of 5 stars.

I got the first season for Christmas, and I had never seen the show. I read the book a while back and thought I'd give the show a try. Turns out, it's by far one of my most favorite shows to watch, and with the season ended, I don't know what to do with myself until the fourth season starts!!! 2nd season is by far the BEST season....

Taking the garbage out 5 out of 5 stars.

This is one of my favorite series. I like the way in which you "hear" what he is thinking and how he comes to his conclusions. The series is highly entertaining. (I think the subject matter is not suitable for children under the impressionable age of 18.) Nice thing about this show is there is very little "gore". Things are implied and shown in a very tasteful manner. 5 stars all the way! Wish we had more real Dexter's in the world. I do endorse what the character is doing........cleaning up the trash!

Never Disappointed 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Bought the DVD for my oldest son who is 25 and even though we watched the episodes on TV, it's much better to view them on DVD without all of the commercials. The characters are extremely hilarious and their antics and situations are extremely entertaining.
I must add though that I would not recommend anyone younger than 17 to watch these shows due to the blatant discussion / and on one particular episode drug use.
If not taken seriously, it's great entertainment.

Funny, but hit or miss 4 out of 5 stars.

Purchased for my boyfriend for Christmas. Funny, but the episodes tend to be hit or miss for really belly-bursting laughter. 'Dayman,' however, which is included in this season, is probably the best episode of Sunny yet, so I doubt anyone would be disappointed with this purchase.

so funny 5 out of 5 stars.

Hilarious. I love this series, so of course I had to buy season 3. If you like Family Guy or Seinfeld you'll like this show.

Great Show, Great Price 5 out of 5 stars.

I love this show. If I didn't I would not have bought it. But when looking around stores for it, you either can't find it or their asking price is over Amazon's cost of the product and shipping/handling.

Seasons 1 & 2 are awesome 5 out of 5 stars.

I love this show but never got into until after the first season. With this dvd I got to catch episodes I've never seen before, and get commentary from the cast. If you like the t.v make sure you get this dvd.

The Sitcom Lives On! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Take five degenerates, a bar they co-own and operate, add some alcohol and what do you get? It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, or just Sunny, is a fresh take on the sitcom. The comedy in the series can be characterized in many ways: lowbrow, witty, `Arrested Development meets Seinfeld meets South Park', crude, dark and so on. All of these are true, but none of them can truly describe or define the humor in the show. This package includes seasons one and two of Sunny as aired on FX with extra features, all fitting on three DVD discs. Extra content and interface, show quality and value are all crucial to the success of any T.V. show season that gets put on DVD. Fortunately the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Seasons 1 & 2 DVD set hits all of those areas very well.

All of these criteria are applicable and necessary. Extra content and decent interface are needed because most have already seen at least some of the episodes on TV, so what extra do they have to offer? Then there's the question of can I actually get it to work or is the interface screwy? The most important criteria is the show/season quality. If this were a horrible show or season then why spend money on it? The last is value: is this even a full season and is it ridiculously priced?

As far as extra content goes, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia- Seasons 1 & 2 is above average. They include your usual: deleted scenes and outtakes, commentary, making-of, bloopers and even an audition. The deleted scenes, commentary and bloopers are interesting for obvious reasons: new content and much of it is funny. But what really shines are the two pilots they include and the "Sunny Side Up" feature which tells the story of the beginnings of Sunny to the pickup of the series by FX. It is an entertaining and informative watch to say the least. The interface is standard, which is certainly a good thing. No magic touch or double jointed fingers are needed to navigate the menus as they are all simple and to the point.

Show and season quality is where It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Seasons 1 & 2 really shines. Sunny is like no other sitcom out there. It touches subjects many feel too taboo for the subject of humor. The subjects range from racism, sexism, terrorism to abortion, the crippled and much more- and those are just some of the subjects touched in the first two seasons. That being said, it is not good just because it can be outrageous. I like the ways and variety in which the comedy is delivered. In any given episode (from either season) it can be a complete deadpan delivery to a normal joke with dark elements that anyone would laugh at. The characters and their interactions are something we rarely see on TV anymore. The original gang of four (Mac, Charlie, Dee and Dennis) are all extremely narcissistic which puts them in awkward situations and serves as the basis for great script writing (most of it done by the cast) and improvising. In season two, Frank enters the fray. Frank is introduced as Dennis and Dee's father. When Frank tries to enter the gang things obviously don't go according to plan and there are a lot of good moments to go along with the situation. For example, here is a quick exchange between two of the characters after finding out Philadelphia might institute a smoking ban which would include their bar: Frank: "I did not go to Vietnam and watch a lot of good men die just for scum like you to take away my freedom!" Dee: "You went to Vietnam in 1993... to open up a sweatshop." Frank: "...and a lot of good men died in that sweatshop."

Seasons one and two don't vary too much in terms of one being better than the other. I'd say season two has the edge on season one, but only because of Frank's entrance and because of there being three more episodes in season two. The strongest episode from season one is "Charlie Got Molested" in which the gang finds out their high school gym teacher was arrested on child molestation charges and the gang wonders why they weren't molested... The two strongest episodes from season two are "Charlie Gets Crippled" and "The Gang Gives Back". In the former, Dennis hits Charlie with his car when Frank suddenly appears in front of the car. Charlie gets put in a wheelchair and discovers the advantages of being crippled and then everyone is in on the game... The latter episode, "The Gang Gives Back" is also great. The gang has been sentenced to do community service for arson (by the way of a flaming bag of poo) and must coach teams on an inner city kids' basketball league. Meanwhile, Frank has some buddies from Vietnam in a gambling ring. The two paths collide when Frank bets on the kids' game and tries to fix the game. The other episodes are not just fillers by any means; all of them are worth a watch or two and are mostly top-notch.

The value of the DVD set is also great. For less than twenty dollars (at least here) you can get two whole seasons- not half seasons or a few episodes- of one of the most original and fresh comedies/sitcoms of the century. I'd also imagine that if this series keeps its run going (it has already been contracted through the sixth season) that this DVD set will be valued much more than what it is now.

In conclusion I'd just like to say the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Seasons 1 & 2 DVD set is well worth the money. The extra features are good, but nothing overtly amazing. The actual episodes are absolutely superb and the value is great. Overall I'd give this 4.7/5, which translates into five stars here in the review section!

The packaging really is as bad as everyone says 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I read several reviews here and elsewhere mentioning the bad packaging for this series. I wondered, "how bad could it be?" I recently bought this set on sale and I have my answer: "it really is as bad as everyone says."

I should also point out that I bought the "standard" packaging, not the "limited edition" version with the molded plastic Krusty head. I don't know what the inside packaging of the Krusty head version is like, but the standard edition is truly awful. Inside the outer box, it's basically a big fold-out piece of cardboard with your DVDs shoved into it. It's difficult to get the discs out, and I'm certain that taking them out and putting them back in will lead to scratching up the playable surface of the discs.

As to the DVDs themselves and the episodes contained therein, it's up to you to decide whether or not you want this. Personally I think season 11 is when the series really started to turn sour. There are a few good episodes here, but several stinkers. That's why I held off on buying this set until I found a great sale price. Between the decline in quality of the episodes themselves and this new awful packaging, this will probably be the last complete season of the Simpsons that I'll buy on DVD.

This season continues to catch the viewer, presenting very funny situations and allows each character to shine in particular. I intend to continue buying the following seasons and follow the show on TV as well.

Nice Surprise! 5 out of 5 stars.

Before I started to watch this show, I had never seen a single episode. Being a fan of Alyson Hannigan, I had to give it a chance. As soon as I got the first season, I had to watch the second and the third. The show's charm has endeared itself to me, and it has that special something that makes a sitcom really special. It can be funny and have moments of silent curiosity... And what I mean by that is when they talk about the never seen but always talked about 'mother', you can't help but wonder who she is. And like the ending to a good movie, you have to know who she is, and how she factors into the wonderful group of characters that has been developed on the series. Fitting together like puzzle pieces, this is a group of friends I could follow around for a long time to come.

Award Winning "Best Drama" absolutly addicting!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

When the show aired on TV it came on at 10:00pm and I didn't stay up that late. Then AMC had a marathon Sunday of Mad Men and I got addicted. I love the DVD because it gives you added commentaries of the actors as well as the creator Matt Weiner. The only negative is the fact that Mad Men Addicts (known on the website as "Maddicts") have to wait so long for the DVD of Season 2.

Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

First of all, I ordered mine through Amazon less than 3 weeks ago and I received it just fine.
Its got enough humor and drama to make it enthralling. I've watched some docs on life in the ideal '50s-early '60s so this fullfilled by history fix as well.
I've heard mixed reviews on the series. The conclusion seems to be that it is best to watch back to back instead of weekly. Watching it in one weekend is not difficult. I couldn't wait to jump to the next episode.

Madmen 5 out of 5 stars.

This Mad Men - Season One

This TV series is a hit for babyboomers or anyone wanting to relive the early 1960's...and remember how life was in the office, treatment of women at home and in the office, race relations, bigotry, furniture design and style, smoking, clothing, advertising of products long forgotton. It's nostalgia for oldtimers and a glimpse of life 50 yrs ago for youngsters.

Very well acted and worthy of Emmies.
Can't wait for the next season..keep em coming!

I so far have bought all seasons of SN. I think the show is amazing. It has some comedic edge to it, drama, action, and that touch of scary but not too scary. The show is centered around two brothers and the actors who portrayed them, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, do an amazing job.
Try out,you wont regret it.

Love this show! 5 out of 5 stars.

This show is hilarious and contrary to popular belief you do not have to have a PhD in physics to get all the intellectual humor. Shelton and Leonard are the funniest comedy team since Andy and Barney. This is a must see series

Editorial Review:

University physicists Leonard and Sheldon know whether to use an integral or a differential to solve the area under a curve. But they don’t have a clue about girls. Or dating. Or clothes. Or parties. Or having fun. Or, basically, life. So when a pretty blonde named Penny moves in the apartment across the hall, the guys decide to get an education outside of the classroom. Boys, you have a lot to learn. With series creators Chuck Lorre (Two and a Half Men) and Bill Prady (The Gilmore Girls) concocting the right mix of logic and lunacy and stars Johnny Galecki (Roseanne) and Jim Parsons (Judging Amy) turning geekdom into Phi Beta fun, The Big Bang Theory is big on laughs. And life.
