Can Not Get better 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

One of the best sci-fi series to come along in a very long time. Very believable and good character developement (human and flawed). Takes on topics that have real life implication and what is going on in our world today. Can not get enought of this show. Sad to see it come to an end.....but .....all good things must come to an end. Enjoy!!

Razor Included in this Set 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have only one criticism of this Battlestar Galactica DVD release, and in a sense it is not really a criticism... The movie "Battlestar Galactica: Razor" is included in this set. That's great for this set, but if I had known that it would be included, I would not have purchased Razor on its original release. So, for those of you building your collection, I recommend either waiting for the inevitable complete series box set to come out or note that you do not need to buy Razor separately.

As for the content itself, what can I say? The show is brilliant and belongs to the pantheon of "all time best shows" along with The Sopranos, The Wire, The West Wing, and Homicide: Life on the Street (to name a few). As with the other seasons' box sets, there are fascinating commentaries and some good special features. But of course the main feature here is the episodes, and this season (or, rather, half-season) is no exception. It's great stuff, and I recommend it to television fans, whether you generally enjoy science fiction or not.

pretty good 4 out of 5 stars.

Pretty entertaining and interesting with a variety of plot twists. Didn't care for some of the "filler" episodes (e.g. "Hero"). A much better buy for the price than seasons 2 or 2.5.

Very Entertaining! 5 out of 5 stars.

Great Season 3 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Season 3 was great and can't wait to see season 4 and the final season in 2009. It's too bad that Battlestar could not continue with more season's with Edward James Olmos, Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck), and of course the cylons...these have been great seasons one right after another. Thanks for all the action!!

disappointing season 3 2 out of 5 stars.

I would give season 1 five stars, season 2 five stars........there was too much "filler" in season 3, although the first part and the last part of the season was just great.

Excellant 5 out of 5 stars.

Only For Those Who Don't Own These DVDs 4 out of 5 stars.
69 of 70 people found this review helpful.

I'm just gonna break this down into some simple questions:

*****Is this show any good?*****
This new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series is phenomenal. I really enjoyed the original series that was released in the late '70s, but the new Sci-Fi show is some of the finest TV around. The action sequences are gritty and exciting. The cast & performances are excellent, with few actors taking a while to find their niche. The strongest & weakest aspect is the writing. There are episodes of dramatic brilliance, which propel this show to greatness. There are a few small patches where the series meanders a bit, but even when BSG isn't at the top of its game, it's playing for keeps. In the end, the show constantly evolves its characters and story.

*****Amazon advertises a "Season 3.0"; Where is 3.5?*****
There is no such thing as Season 3.5. Basically, Amazon screwed up. This exclusive offer will include the complete third season. Seasons Two and Four are split into two separate box sets. The bottom line is this: you will get every BATTLESTAR GALACTICA DVD released to date - No More, No Less.

*****What's the deal with RAZOR?*****
This 2-hour made-for-TV feature first aired, and was released on DVD, in November 2007. It takes place between Seasons Two and Three. Oddly enough, RAZOR will be included with the Season 4.0 DVD in January 2009. Either way, you'll get the original version that aired on TV, as well as the longer Unrated Cut.

*****Is this a good price?*****
As of this writing, Amazon is listing this exclusive packaging for $147. If the price doesn't change, then this will save you about 30 dollars. Because RAZOR will be included in the Season 4.0 DVD in January, collectors will only save about $15. In the end, this is a good price as long as it doesn't change.

*****So, should I buy it?*****
Only if you don't own any of the DVDs included in this exclusive offer. There is no additional bonus content. And again, RAZOR will come for free in a few months. However, to Amazon's defense, these DVDs are very sturdy packages. The discs are held in slim cases, which means buyers will have a decent chance of getting a non-damaged DVD in the mail.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is a great series. It belongs on the shelf of any DVD collector. It's more of a war drama than a science fiction, allowing for both genres to explore new depths. Fans who love TV series with continuity and evolving characters & plot will get into this. In fact, I'd encourage those who don't watch TV or science fiction to check this out. You have no idea what you're in for. This show will end by the summer of 2009. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is so addicting, you'll be finished by the Season 4.5 premiere.

Perfect DVD set for the best season of one of the most interesting shows on TV 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I think this is the rare TV show that i've had the pleasure of watching chronologically as it came out. And, while I feel the show has lost alot of it's direction now that it's in it's final season (they REALLY needed to stick with shorter seasons....), this first season is one of the best things put to the TV screen. I couldn't recommend it enough.

I say the above as a newbie to the Battlestar universe. I never saw the original (thankfully!)and had no idea what to expect. I heard since that alot was changed from the original series, but I couldn't tell you what. I'm just glad this series, particularly this season was so damn good!

The DVD includes not just the first season entire, but the original three-hour miniseries that started it and probably the BEST extras this side of DR Who that gives you EVERYTHING you'd ever want to know about this brilliant show's first (and BEST) season.

One of the best series 5 out of 5 stars.

Awesome series, is a most see for the people who like sci-fi, this first season is great and comes with the miniseries. All i can say is WATCH IT.

Avoid this episode 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This was a very upsetting episode because it changes the main characters into complete creeps. The actors do not act consistent with their characters that have been built up over the preceding three seasons. In Razor they are now shown to be completely amoral and criminal!
In particular Adama, who is a man that has garnered respect for his fair mindedness over the previous seasons, is now defending the murder of citizens. And we seem to be expected to be sympathetic to the woman who is involved in the murders of 20-30 innocent men women and children, because she is haunted by what she'd done. I'd have been more impressed if she and the other culprits were put up against the wall and shot. Also, the producers/directors have no concept of what makes a good commander. If in real life a commander turned a blind eye to his officers and troops shooting innocent citizens, he'd lose all respect and control of his troops (particularly as many of them have family and lovers amongst the people). Plus in real life, the rest of the fleet would have rebelled as a result of these murders as they'd be fearing they were next and could not trust the military to act rationally and protect them. They'd form their own partisan group and fight for freedom and justice. Instead, the rest of the fleet took no action against these atrocities. What rubbish! Also, why is the military continuing on if not to make a home world for the people, not just for the military. And how does shooting the people assist that goal.
The portraying of the criminal and evil behaviour of these characters as being acceptable is quite disgusting.
The show claims to be an adult show, but to me it's a show that primarily targets 14 year olds, beause many of them are still defining their own morality, and then adds disturbing scenarios and images in an attempt to appear adult.
It's a very disappointing episode. If you haven't yet purchased it, my advice is to pass this episode by and focus on the rest of the preceding three seasons. But if season four continues this amoral attitude, then it will be very disappointing.

I enjoy this series about as much as anything I can think of. It is wonderful to watch it on DVD and not have to watch the reruns on SciFi channel. I do wish they had released seasons 2.0 and 2.5 together on the same DVD set. We could surely have saved some money.

Great Show, Bad Box Set 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The show is outstanding, but it's a tremendous shame that the box set only contains the first 10 episodes Season 2 and still costs $35.

For the price and lack of content, the 2.0 box set deserves a 1 star rating. But the high quality of the DVD transfer means it has at least one redeeming value. Hopefully they won't do this again.

Fantastic TV 5 out of 5 stars.

Starts off BAD, finishes Good. 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The 2.5 series starts off horrible. The first two episodes were so bad I almost stopped watching the series thinking that it "jumped the shark". However I hung in there and by the end of the 3 discs you are delivered into a whole new outlook on the series. So far this set was the weakest out of all the others, but with that being said this series is better than 99.99% of all the stuff on TV even at its worst. So you should buy it and enjoy.

Brilliance in Manifest 5 out of 5 stars.

Science-fiction has never reached this level of perfection until now. Acting, writing, production values, all climaxing to the absolute panicle in television viewing. If you do not have this complete series in your collection you will forever regret it.

a frackin' good show 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

An interesting take on Sci-Fi, is BSG. At it's core are ultra-conservative values and a fascination with the military. Buddy camaraderie, loyalty, family, military hierarchy, patriotism are endorsed and revered. Abortion is banned. The exiled humans follow their "scripture", an unabashedly fundamentalist Biblical plan which turns out to be literally true (!). Having their Scripture, humans can safely eschew mystical experience which is something that the "Cylons" have a mono-poly on. Let us also not forget that the plot is based on 12 human colonies trying to find Earth (ie, "Zion")!

On the other hand, intellectuals and scientists are demonized (cowardly, crazy and traitorous), as are unions and civil society advocates (power-hungry ex-terrorists) and any mental-emotional sophistication (likely to be manipulation by Cylon enemies). In other words, the show could have been (and perhaps was) written by a Dobson-Cheney surrogate in some military Psy Ops room or another. if so, the creators should get medals for it.

Because the show works. The drama and its protagonists suck me right in every single time. Great writing, directing, excellent acting, great selection of actors which, surprisingly for a 'fundamentalist' show, feature women in key combat roles. That was an excellent call; the Lt. Starbuck character in particular mixes macho posturing and femaleness in a weirdly unique and unflinchingly consistent way. So one roots for Galactica and her crew and is happy and relieved every time they blast their way through Cylon lines.

the director certainly does not spare viewers' sensibilities. The language is raunchy (what the frack!), violence is depicted graphically with no details spared, the creators of the show revel in all kinds of abuse and torture; the graphic nature of confrontations at physical, psychological and cultural levels is imo quite effective. BSG and its cousin Stargate represent polar opposites to the philosophical sophistication and enlightening aspirations of shows such as Star Trek or early Star Wars; they're the Sci-Fi equivalent of redneck pulp that catalyzes people's inherent fear of the "Other" rather than teaching them to be better, more 'enlightened', humans. Of what use is personal growth and happiness if there is a terrorist hiding under every rock? Unfortunately this is the kind of pulp i like. Just as unfortunately, i am not alone.

Don't Buy 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This was the start of what made this the best show on TV for four (long drawn out) seasons. However, as others have noted it is included on the Season 1 box set of the series. You will want that after watching this so save some money and just buy the box. Be alert, the world needs more lerts.

Probably the best space opera ever put on film. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The reimagined battlestar galactica is without a doubt the best space-based SF ever put on the small screen, and easily rivals the best ever put on film. It thankfully departs from the hokey, cheesy 70s predescessor and gives us utterly realistic imagining of the future in space. As anyone who has watched NASA TV can attest, space travel is an untidy affair, and BSG delivers that look in spades.

The characters bring a realism and pathos that is unmatched in the genre. Olmos's war-weary Adama is award-caliber stuff, as is Mary McDonnel's increasingly cynical president Roslyn. The supporting cast delivers the goods, too, from start to finish. Richard Hatch, the lone representative from the old series, is kind of bland, but what do you expect?

All in great entertainment.

Interesting Analogy 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Sad analogy. The President's willingness to have "peace at any price" with the Cylons is like the pressure on little Israel to give up territory for "peace" with the Arab world...much of which is implacably hostile to democratic Israel's free existence. Even in Israel, the Left is bent on giving up any asset for a "peace" which is little better than the piece of paper on which a "treaty" is written. As Adama says in the pilot, "they hate us with every fibre of their existence." If only we can hold on until a more enlightened time...

One of the best sci fi tv series ever. 5 out of 5 stars.

Epic is honestly the right word! 5 out of 5 stars.

If you've read my other reviews, then you know I am a big fan of the original series. Here you get it all. Every single episode as it was when it was first transmitted, apart from the commericals of course. It would be a pretty crappy DVD if you had commericals on it during the episodes. Most of the episodes on here are truely great. The only one that isn't is "Murder on the Rising Star". And even that had its moments. Highly recommended!

List of episodes below

Saga of a Star World (feature-length pilot), Lost Planet of the Gods (2 parts), The Lost Warrior, The Long Patrol, The Gun on Ice Planet Zero (2 parts), The Magnificent Warriors, The Young Lords, The Living Legend (2 parts), Fire in Space, War of the Gods (2 parts), The Man with Nine Lives, Murder on the Rising Star, Greetings from Earth (feature-length episode), Baltar's Escape, Experiment in Terra, Take the Celestra, The Hand of God (series' final).

Quality Control Problems Fixed? 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I ordered this set in February ('08) and when I received it I examined it for the problems that other reviewers have posted. So far, I have found none. The discs are in excellent condition physically (i.e. no scratches) and there is no audio/video mismatch on any of the discs. The case it came in is average and I can see why the discs could become loose within and get scratched. The same problem that the first batch of Halo 3 Limited Edition discs had wherein they became loose and scratched in the case-the result of poor packaging design. However, the BSG discs were securely affixed to the packaging, so I can only conclude that the quality control problems that the other reviewers alluded to have been fixed. Also, I did not see a difference between the miniseries and season one discs as far as visual quality. I am using an LCD, HDMI connection and my HD-DVD player is outputting at 1080i, LCD's native resolution is 768. Overall I am very pleased by my purchase and highly recommend to anyone looking to buy.
