Most stories depict the Zulu Nation at the time of Shaka as only savages. This was an inspiring storie. Well done. Well acted. Well directed. The role of Shaka was played with power. A must for your collection. And you'll love the soundtrack.

Obviously this is an excellent epic! The DVD quality was average, the first DVD was not quite crisp in reception as you would expect in an average DVD. Perhaps this may have been due to VHS to DVD conversion. I was expecting a digitally remastered copy which this wasn't. Overall the DVD set was excellent value!

The made-for-cable-TV historical drama The Crossing, scripted by Howard Fast from his novel, corrects at least one piece of historical invention--Washington did not stand and pose for the occasion of Leutze's portrait--but, more importantly, it frames the event in the real-life drama that made it a decisive moment of American history. Jeff Daniels makes a fine General George Washington, the quiet, dignified, and increasingly desperate leader of the volunteer Continental Army. By December 1776, six months after the Declaration of Independence was signed, the tired and hungry army had retreated to the far banks of the Delaware River, a mere fraction of the original 20,000-strong force. This is an excellent T.V. series. In a time were T.V. is all about sex and violence, I find I have to go back a few years and revisit shows like Dr. Quinn that were safe, and yes, always had a happy ending. I recommend this to any family or any person, like me, who can't find a t.v. show with a decent story-line to get into.

This documentary helped me and my study group visualize some of the key characters and main events which sparked and fueled the French Revolution.
Although the movie seemed to miss a few points, it was an overall good summary. Everyone in my study group got an A on our exam of the French Revolution.
If you're taking Western Civilizations in college, get it! It's worth the investment! Oh, and the good thing is, I can watch it over and over again! Another awesome history dvd to add to my collection! Isn't history interesting?

Ignore the comments about the sound quality, these shows are meant to be seen as they were watched all those decades ago. Playing too much with the pictures and sound is like putting a brand spanking new Ferrari engine in an E-Type Jaguar. Okay it runs better and faster, but it just is not an E-Type Jag any more - and where is the fun in that?
The first time I watched this show was on a black and white mono TV, so seeing the series in color is always an improvement.
The only thing I remembered about Space 1999 before buying this series was that I loved the show and the cool space vehicles that were on the show. Watching the episodes again was like watching them for the first time but with a twist. Constantly I was saying to myself "ah yeah, I remember that!"
Like UFO, you need to watch this show in the context of the time it was made. Don't expect ILS quality special effects and you will not be disappointed.
As a side bar - I always loved how shows made around that time in the UK often had a token American in them to help sell them `over the pond"!
Don't miss this series and at the price it is a bargain.....17 DVD's for under $50...wow!

and finally in response to the review and questions i have seen on here
hate to be the bearer of bad news so far it appears that it is the edited ver. even more so it looks to me as the set is a rehash the seven disc break down like this Mr. bean: vol 1,2,3 ( 3 discs ( thats the t.v. series ( looks to be the the whole bean because of the menus ),then you have bean: the movie( 1 disc ), Mr. bean's holiday( 1 disc ), then you have two disc from the animated series bean there, done that ( 1 disc ) and it's not easy being bean ( 1 disc ) so far I watched some of this the main missing scenes that people talked about from the whole bean being missing are m.i.a here too where he fights with the old lady over the chair in "do-it yourself" and where he guess the weight of the turkey in "merry Christmas"
***Edit to point to the act that is rehash ever more so is vol 1-3 on this set have the same error in the order of episodes as The Whole Bean i am 99.9% sure that it is the whole bean but since I have never seen hat set myself I am still 00.1% not sure

It's Criminal To Release This Fine Series Without Close Captioning 4 out of 5 stars.

I love everything about the TV series HOMICIDE from its well realized characters to the Baltimore portrayed so realistically you can almost smell and taste it. Unfortunately I missed most of the early episodes and am delighted to be able to finally view the initial seasons on DVD. Happily, the early episodes are as excellent as those that followed but the DVDs cry out for close captioning even for those of us with normal hearing. The dialogue is too well written to miss a word and with the thick Baltimore (and other) accents of many of the characters I missed some whole sentences and maybe paragraphs! Hopefully maybe a re release with English close captioning will be forthcoming?????

I always enjoyed the Dr.Quinn series. One of the best episodes is found in season two., where Mike and Sully end up in Boston and find they love each other. I am very pleased to beable to buy each season separately, from amazon.com
