Where's the Yabba? 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I have fond memories watching the Flinstones as a kid and thought it would be great to have my kids exposed to such. Barney & Fred seem to fight more than I remembered- do I want my kids watching that? They always make good in the end though. The biggest disappointment was the theme "From the Town of Bedrock..." is not sung in the first season- That's half the fun, the sing along!
Thus, go for the second season.

The Flintstones Season 1 5 out of 5 stars.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience. This was network tv's only successful animated series in prime time until "The Simpsons". Form the completely different opening sequence to the completely different closing sequence is a series that's a joy to watch for all ages. It's based on Jackie Gleason's immortal "The Honeymooners" series of a decade before. Original, witty & well acted, I would recommend this set to everyone.

Editorial Review:

The Flintstones was pitched to the network as an animated version of Jackie Gleason's The Honeymooners. Now the honeymoon never has to end with this 4-disc set of the 28 episodes of the entire (pre)historic first season, full of terrific extras and trivia that will make fans shout "Yabba dabba doo!"

Pathetic 1 out of 5 stars.

I've only just heard about these DVD sets and initially was very excited because Tom & Jerry was a particular favourite of mine as i child. But censored? Come on.

From what i have seen most if not all people interested in buying this are adults be it for nostalgic reasons or for their kids. Warner Brothers what do you think you're going to be achieving with censoring these cartoons and from what i hear even getting a celebrity (Whoopie Goldberg) to spout some politically correct bollocks. Political correctness sickens me to the bone, we all know that it is a *cough* political tool of control (i'm not trying to sound militant there i just feel it's true).

All we want are the original cartoons. So what if people laugh at what might be considered bad-taste by the right wing types. Anyone with more than 6 brain cells knows there's no harm intended and i don't believe there ever was any harm intended in the first place. Stop telling us what to think, we can make out own minds up. And don't give us any of that 'protecting our children' psychobabble all you are doing is covering your own arses because everyone is so paranoid these days.

I'm really not sure if i am going to be buying any of these sets yet as i just find it hideously offensive that some men in suits think this and that shouldn't been seen and have the audacity to cut things out. That to me is nothing more than being spoon fed b******t and being told they know what's best for me. No, you don't. This cartoon franchise has lasted the test of time before you got your hands on it so why censor it 'now'?

Pathetic.

Editorial Review:

Tom may catch Jerry on occasion but no one really believes the adorable little mouse will come to harm. After all, it would have also meant the end to the most popular and beloved cat and mouse act in show business. This is the third and final Spotlight Collection Volume from the Hanna-Barbera era of theatrical shorts. It showcases 35 classic cartoons - 15 newly re-mastered in their original CinemaScope widescreen format. On any screen large or small, Tom and Jerry remain the friskiest animated adversaries of all time. Catch them if you can.

Ben 10: Race Against Time...... 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Directed by Alex Winter(who starred in The Lost Boys & Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure) comes Ben 10: Race Against Time; a live-action movie based on the Ben 10 cartoon show from Cartoon Network. Ben 10 is about ten-year-old Ben Tennyson's discovery of a device called the Omnitrix that allows him to change his form into that of ten aliens. Hence the name of Ben 10. The plot revolves around an alien known as Eon. Grandpa Max tells Ben that Eon was the first alien the Plumbers(a group he is part of) ever faced, and that they thought they'd locked him up. Instead, when Grandpa Max leads the kids there, they find out Eon has escaped. Grandpa Max feels that Eon will be after his doomsday device known as the Hands of Armageddon. Heatblast, Wildmutt, Diamondhead & Grey Matter were the only alien forms presented in the movie and were a real blast to see. I really loved the movie myself. It does the series justice. I wish Cartoon Network would make more movies of Ben 10 or a live-action tv series...it would definitely be cool if they did.

The movie stars: Lee Majors, Graham Phillips, Haley Ramm, Christien Anholt and Robert Picardo. It clocks in at around 90 minutes and is the most fun you'll ever waste your time on. I really liked this movie and plan to get into the series alot more. Check it out!!!

I bought this because this is what I grew up with and it is no longer awaiable so I found it for my family. This just brings up the good old days and how things have totally changed. Eyerone looves it except my husband wants to watch real movies not cartoons. Thanks. My only problem was that it took a long time for this to be delivered because it seemed to have been lost yet paid for. Thank you so much for looking into the problem and getting this for my children. We love it!

I had originally written this review in 2004 and there was one error. At the time, I thought the episode Dino Goes Hollyrock was from the 2nd season (it wasn't; it was actually the opener for the 3rd season- sorry!).

The 2nd season helped better establish the modern Stone-age family. In at least 6 of the episodes, Mel Blanc was absent due to illness so Daws Butler had to supply Barney Rubble's voice (thus making Barney sound more like Yogi Bear). New characters introduced are Mr. Slate, Fred's no-nonsense boss (voiced by John Stephenson; Mr. Slate had one cameo in the 1st season, but didn't look or talk at all like the Mr. Slate you probably remember), Arnold the smart allecky paperboy (voiced by Don Messick), Joe Rockhead, an alternative buddy of Fred's and Mrs. Slaghoople, Wilma's "battleaxe" mother (actually, Wilma's maiden name started out as Pebble but that name probably went out the window when their child Pebbles was born- and the original voice was that of Verna Felton).

Highlights include a voice cameo from Hoaggy Carmichael (perhaps one of the 1st on the Flintstones, Fred warbles a cheezy rendition of "Stardust"), Fred and Barney not speaking to each other after Fred insults Barney ("Did you get the license of that truck, Betty?"), Barney gets a job working for Fred's company since Mr. Slate finds out he's his nephew, Wilma gets a job as emcee of the TV series The Happy Housewife Show leaving one not-so-happy husband to get his own dinner ("Make your hubby happy, keep your hubby happy... with Rockenspiel!"), Fred and Barney are judges of a beauty contest and women across town are trying to get their attention (leaving 2 understandably jealous wives), Fred goes on a gambling streak which winds up owing paperboy Arnold lots of money ("BET! Bet, bet bet...."), Barney coaches a Little League baseball team and Fred volunteers as umpire ("I call 'em as I see 'em"), Barney and Betty stay at the Flintstones' house after plumbing problems but it isn't long before their welcome is worn ("Shhh, the girls'll think we're fightin', Fred"), Wilma and Betty get invited to the Ambassadors' Reception but neither they nor Fred and Barney are well received since they're not rich snobs (that is, until Fred and Barney unwittingly prevent a burglary), Fred writes a vitriolic protest letter to his boss when he doesn't get the raise he expected (Wilma saves the day here) and Barney plays a practical joke on Fred ("You, Barney Rubble, are a counterfietter!").

The 1st season helped get the Flintstones started and the 2nd season had the characters better established for Fred (Alan Reed), Wilma(Jean VanderPyl), Barney (Blanc) and Betty (Bea Benederet).

At last! 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 17 people found this review helpful.

Speaking as a 16 year old Canadian male, I can safely say that The Powerpuff Girls was awesome. With its unique animation style, immensely likeable characters, deliciously over the top cartoon violence and razor-sharp sense of wit, this show served as a reminder that Cartoon Network was once great. But unfortunately, to say the series has barely received any worthy home video releases is an understatement.

Until now, that is.

After a few scattered, kid-friendly compilations and a lacklustre first season set, the complete run of the show is at last making it to DVD. Considering that the past home video releases have completely neglected the last three seasons of the show, and that a fair amount of notable episodes from the other three seasons have also been neglected, it's great to see Warner Bros. is finally giving all of it to us in one handy package.

According to TVShowsonDVD.com, this set will be comprised of 6 double-sided discs containing all 78 episodes of the show and the previously released Christmas special, "'Twas the Fight Before Christmas". It's worth noting that the final episode, "See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey" (notable for being an all-singing episode), has never been broadcast in the States (although it has been broadcast in Canada and the UK), so it will be interesting to have.

If you're a fan like me, this set is an obvious must-buy. As for those who have never seen the show, it's easy to get into: just look past the sugary-sweet femininity and you'll find an incredibly sharp sense of humour.

Not Bad 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The high-res transfer for these discs is quite good. However, the original source material was clearly not intended for a presentation at this resolution, and a lot of short cuts, rough lines, low-line-count background or distant objects, and other shortcomings show up quite blatantly. For example, it's pretty common to clearly see a character lose eyebrows, then their nose, then the separation between their eyes as they get more distant in a single scene. At 480i, that was not noticeable. Here it is really obvious.

The colors are great, and the video compression is not a problem, but the audio seems pretty flat.

Of course, these are NOT widescreen, they are 4:3, as originally aired, despite the episodes being designed to be shown in 16:9. I don't mind this so much, however, as it shows more of the environment, and my display can show these as if it were letterbox, cutting the extra and showing them as originally intended. The presence of the extra material is not a weakness in my mind, as it makes them better viewed on non-16x9 screens (like computer monitors). The extra resolution which a full 16x9 aspect presentation would have given would have been a complete waste, due to the low quality of the animation itself.

Also, the chapters are well placed, so it is easy to skip the horrible intro sequence, and the recurring "last time on..." section in more than half the episodes. Why they didn't just link these two (or more) part episodes together, I have no idea.

All and all, it is worthy of an upgrade from the DVD version, but they could have done better if they had wanted to. I'd give it 4 stars, but it started at only 4 due to the lower quality of these episodes, especially when compared to the early Batman: The Animated Series stuff and the later Justice League, and lost another star for the small problems with this edition itself.

Basically, I removed one star for the content, and one for the presentation.

Up, up, and awaaaaaaaaaaaaay! 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

WB finishes this series of the Super Friends, it's more of what you saw in Volume One...core team adventures, Wonder Twins adventures, and team-ups between the cores and with special guest heroes (such as Green Lantern, Flash, and the Multi-Cultural Pals). Plus there are PSAs, magic tricks, and crafts. The next set of episodes include the debut (sort of) of the Black Manta and an appearance (REALLLLLLY sort of) by Zorak.

Keep them coming, Warners! We still need World's Greatest, the "Lost" shorts, and the original series (wonder if they are purposely holding back on Wendy and Marvin cause they were fan un-favorites. This IS the same company that released the first Scooby DVD with Scrappy-Doo only last year, and proceeded to avoid his name in the trailer). And the 1968 Filmation Batmans couldn't hurt either.

/Thumbs up for Plastic Man being released in the near future, apparently.
//And if they are adding Ruby-Spears series, how about their Superman too?
