GREAT GP SIDE-SPLITTING COMEDY! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This is the absolute BEST comedy show we, as a family have ever seen! Our 6 and 7 year olds love it,too. We initially saw it on the PBS network late at night, and could not believe that we had NOT seen it durring the origional airing of the show! It is simply the best ever--we can hardly wait to see the rest. Steve Smith, and the rest of the "gang" are super.

A message from Red Green

OK, SO YOU GOT A PROBLEM in that your anniversary—which you seem to recall is coming up—it's gone by. It was yesterday and you pulled a complete blank. Total amnesia. So you need help digging your way out of this `cause you are now in the deep stuff. The main thing is, don't blame yourself. It's not your fault.

WE CAN'T HELP IT—WE'RE MEN!

A lot's been written about the differences between men and women. In fact, way too much. That's why I've decided to tackle the subject on video. With help from the men of Possum Lodge (and also from my nephew Harold), I'd like to lead us to a better understanding between the various sexes. Remember, we're all in the same boat, and women are on the shore, laughing.

Editorial Review:

The long-running Canadian comedy series is in top form on The Red Green Show: 1997 Season, representing the 7th year the Possum Lodge's resident handyman, Red Green (Steve Smith), shares his wisdom and dubious skills with duct tape and junkyard flotsam. Affectionately vexed by nebbish nephew Harold Green (Patrick McKenna), who never stops goading Red into dreaming bigger dreams for The Red Green Show, the greying host celebrates the sale of his series to Swiss television (though he isn't sure if Switzerland and Sweden are one and the same), organizes a local version of Pamploma's "Running of the Bulls" (though he's only got one healthy bull available), and shares advice on how to keep one's grown-up grandchildren attentive and loving (by making them think there's a sizable inheritance coming their way--which there isn't).

On the creative front, Red demonstrates how to make one's own version of an Airstream trailer out of discarded appliance parts and an aluminum boat. Red also uses massive quantities of duct tape to turn two beat-up cars into, uh, one very large, beat-up car, and he transforms an old police car into a zebra-striped, personal emergency vehicle. Meanwhile, speculation runs high at the lodge about the identity of a mystery celebrity who's buying a cabin in the neighborhood, and Harold acquires two tubas in hopes that Red will learn to play it with him. As always, The Red Green Show is both absurd and sweet in its effort to promote manly virtues among clueless men. Smith and McKenna, as always, are a real hoot. --Tom Keogh

Editorial Review:

It's that time of year again: Christmas. When you spend money you don't have—to buy family members you don't like—gifts they don't need. But then, that's where garage sales come from. So this year, do something different. Spend the holidays with us at Possum Lodge!

It's really the ideal place for an old-fashioned Christmas. I make a one horse open sleigh out of a K-car, Bill demonstrates the wrong way to cut down your own Christmas tree, and The Experts answer the age-old question, "Is there a Santa Claus?" Plus, Hap describes how he invented Christmas lights, Edgar decorates the tree using a howitzer, Harold and I do the Possum Lodge version of "The Night Before Christmas," and much more. This video is more jam-packed than you'll be after Christmas dinner.
Happy holidays and have a laugh or two on us! Red Green.

DVD BONUS EXTRAS INCLUDE It's a Merry Red Green Christmas, a second Red Green holiday special; hilarious character bios; and new program introductions by star Steve Smith.

Editorial Review:

Innovative handyman Red Green is proud to announce his first DVD, and while admitting that he doesn't understand the technology, he chooses to mark the occasion with a tribute to duct tape, that endlessly useful substance he terms "the handyman's secret weapon." In the course of the program, Green (ably portrayed by Canadian comedian Steve Smith) demonstrates projects that are one part Rube Goldberg and many parts duct tape. Some of the gags are elaborate and inspired, such as a bit about a pontoon boat you can make by stripping the heat ducts from your house ("don't forget to replace them before winter"), taping them all together, and adding an outboard motor as a finishing touch. The humor of all this is an acquired taste, and those who just don't get it would probably have to be duct taped to the television to watch Red Green. But if you enjoy this sort of offbeat humor, Duct Tape Virtuoso Deluxe is a treat. How else could you learn to make construction equipment from a stepladder and a Thigh-Master? Who else would teach you how to make a paddlewheel riverboat by taping together parts of a junked van? Only Red Green, who also thoughtfully provides tips on using all those empty duct-tape rolls to make holders for the many bottles in your "beer cellar." Bonus material on the DVD includes a trip to the actual largest duct-tape plant in the world (which Red proudly notes is "right here in Canada"), and a segment shot at a gathering of fanatical Red Green fans who show off their own duct-tape creations. --Robert J. McNamara

Kicks a**! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I was never one to sit on the couch and watch hours of television without end, but there was one show that a friend of mine convinced me to watch and soon enough I was hooked! The jokes about marriage, being a man, and duct-tape sweeten my day nomatter how damn bad it is! I thought to myself. These guys are just terrific. They MUST have a movie out! And sure enough, there is! I ordered it from Amazon.com to see what's up, and there is no disappointment!

Overall, the movie is a nice break from the usual Red Green Show. Typical episodes follow a distinct story line of a play set up, possume lodge word game, Gord's educational cartoons, the expert's portion of the show, a word of advice about life from Mr. Green, and an action clip of them participating in a task or playing a sport. But in the movie there's a well thought-of plot and a constantly changing setting.

Well, here's the story-board. If you want to purchase the movie and not know exactly how the whole thing turns out, then I suggest you skip this paragraph. A business man named Stiles has a lemo that hit a sink-hole in Pussume Lodge. The police come and start a court case for damaged property. Herold is smitten with the female cop, Mandy. In the courtcase, they are ordered at first 30 days to pay for the damages or the lodge turns into property of the county. Herold decides to be a bonehead and come to the judge and say its close to impossible to make that much money in 30 days. So she makes it 10 days. That way it is impossible! After the lodge members let Herold have it, he suggests that they enter a duct tape contest in Minnesota in which if they win at least 3rd place, then they'll win 10,00 dollars, just enough money to pay for the damages. But they have created something out of duct-tape that may make them win. This giant duct-tape goose is to follow the pussume van on their way to the contest! But the police men and Stiles doesn't want them to make it to the contest. In one incident they have to stop for gas and something to eat, and the police car stops next to them. Mandy and the officer deflate their tires on the possume van. Then they pirate the police vehicle, get gas, then put it in their tank. They drive off, leaving ten dollars for gas. In one more incident, the police men take a 208 cat crane. But they trapped themselves next to a small canyon. So they lift their own police car and drop it in the crane, then Red and Herold drive over it! My brother seems to complain that it's fake, but it's his fault that he can't shut his mouth and just enjoy a movie. A few chapters later, the officer is fired. Then Stiles finds the pussume van and gets them to collide into a haystack. Herold rushes out to appologize, but Stiles abducts him. RedGreen sees Ranger Gord, who is happy to hear someone say his name, then tells the plants to keep quiet while Red uses his payphone. He calls Stiles and they make an agreement. If Red Green gives Stiles the goose, then he'll give him his nephew back. Red Green says he'll think it over. So he calls back to the lodge members to come to a special spot in a bus while Stiles calls his own crew of men coming in nice, expensive cars. Once they get there Herold hesitates because he feels guilty that they're losing the lodge because of him. One shot of a gun is all it takes for him to coward over to Red Green! His men board on Stile's army's vehicles, then the chain attached to the goose smacks Stiles in the nuts, then they drive off. This makes him real mad. So he gets back in his lemo, and chases Red and Herold once again. This time, they've got guns shooting at their tires. Luckily, Herold recalls a plan from a James Bond movie. By pouring gasoline from behind the duct-tape goose, they can reflect the gun shots and cause a huge path of fire that can steer the lemo off. This is what Red Green meant when he says all his contenuous sarcastic remarks on Herold were to help him become a man. So he throws the gasoline out from the back, and the duct-tape goose actually starts to fly! Again, my brother made a smart remark on how unrelistic that is, but once again it's his fault. The contest was close by and people didn't know what to think when a gigantic duct-tape goose came flying and sat right on a duct-tape stand, and a doofus man came flying out from the back. Sure enough, they win 3rd prize. Herold got the respect that he never before had. And even better, Mandy stared at Herold with moon eyes and signaled him to come to her. About the time Edger makes a cake for celebration but accidentally used dynomite sticks instead of candles, Herold and Mandy had a deep kiss outside the lodge while it exploded into nothing more than ragged peices of wood and duct-tape. Red Green orders the lodge to be fixed, saying "Get the duct-tape."

The movie is so damn entertaining! Sense I got it, I've been watching it every now and then and it never gets old! It's really too bad that the series of the Red Green Show had to be disconteuned back in 2006, but can anyone tell me if there's anything like a sequel for the halarious peice of Canadian comedy? Because whatever it is, I'm welling to order it!

Keep your stick on the ice.

I needed some Red Green, I was watching an old tape my kids had of 3 episodes. I did a search and found this. It really puts me in a good mood to see the Possum Lodge gang again.

loved it 5 out of 5 stars.

Best NonAlcoholic 6-Pack Available! 5 out of 5 stars.

My husband got hooked on Red Green a few years ago, but because we live overseas, we can't get PBS. I bought him the 6-Pack for Father's Day and he was thrilled! Getting 48 episodes in one package was wonderful. A little bit expensive, but when you consider how many episodes you're getting, it's worth it.

Red Green Show "Six Pack" is great fun 4 out of 5 stars.

These are some of the best episodes of this very funny Canadian television show. This six disk set contains a short (one or two minute) introduction by the star and writer Steve Smith. He gives insight into how some of the skits in the episode about to play were developed and challenges they ran into while filming.

"I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess...." 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This is the famous, "Man's Prayer" from the start of each Possum Lodge meeting on "The Red Green Show". And this is a review of this great DVD set.

This is the 1999 or the 9th season of the show; For those of you who have the wonderful "Stuffed and Mounted Series", this set contains 5 episodes (all on disk number three of this set) that you will already have. They are; in order:

"The Battle Call"- Possum Lodge and Caribou Lodge lock horns in mock combat. (Stuffed & Mounted #6)

"Hurricane Doug" - A powerful hurricane bears down on the lodge. (Stuffed & Mounted #5)

"Guinness World Records"- The men scramble to find a way into the record book. (Stuffed & Mounted #4)

"The Auto Club" - The guy's form an auto club to earn cash. (Stuffed & Mounted #3)

"Too Much Information" - Everyone gets sucked into the computer craze- except Red. (Stuffed & Mounted #2)

Also worth mentioning; this is the year that Patrick McKenna (Harold) left for Hollywood and movie fame; so his roll on the show was limited accordingly. He was able to record smaller segments, usually with himself and Steve Smith (Red); where Red goes to his place of business, (an office building) where they talk about various subjects; such as lodge business or how Harold is adjusting to city life, etc. On one episode "The Bachelor Auction" Harold actually shows up at the end of the episode at the lodge; as a contestant.

Rick Green (Adventures with Bill) also left the program for a short while starting with this season. Rick started the Canadian comedy series "History Bites" in 1999. There is a similar segment in each episode during this season of The Red Green Show. It's filmed in black & white and Red still does the narration just like in the previous "Adventures with Bill" segments; but it's filmed with other lodge members, Dalton Humphrey, Mike Hamar and Ed Frid to name a few.

Anyway; to make up for Harold's limited appearances on the show, we get to see more of Dalton, Mike, Edgar Montrose, Winston Rothchild III (from "Rothchild's Sewage and Septic Sucking Services"). Hap Shaughnessy and Ranger Gord have bigger roles now too.

Sadly this is Hap Shaughnessy's (Gordon Pinsent) last year on the show; Gordon left after this season.

This is also the season that started the famous "Ranger Gord Cartoons".

Here what's on each disk....

Disk One

"Harold's Job"- Harold moves to the city and takes a corporate job.

"The Fishing Derby"- The men have the lake tested when the fish stop biting.

"Lady In Red"- A beautiful young chiropractor sets up shop in town.

"The Bachelor Auction"- The men auction themselves to raise money- and get dates.

"Angel"- The guys bet about whether Mike can show them an angel.

"School Bus Blimp"-Red and the gang turn an old school bus into a hot air balloon.

Disk Two

"Coupe De Gras"- Red invents grass that grows only two inches high.

"Rent A Wreck"- Mike Borrows Red's van to take part in a demolition derby.

"Curse Of The Mummy"- Red and Mike fool around with museum artifacts.

"Roll Out The Barrels"- Red decides to go over the falls in a beer barrel.

"No Retreat"- Harold's company wants to buy the lodge for retreats.

Disk Three

"The Battle Call"
"Hurricane Doug"
"Guinness World Records"
"The Auto Club"
"Too Much Information"

Even though there are five out of the sixteen episodes already on the "Stuffed and Mounted" series; in this release, I think this is still worth owning. Remember; after the 10th season (2000 set); there won't be anymore repeat shows; since the Stuffed & Mounted series only includes episodes from 1991 to 2000. So show your support and buy this. Hopefully we will see many more of these seasons released (including the early ones) as years go by and "Remember I'm pulling for ya' were all in this together".

A Great Family Show 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

We bought the 1997 Season after my husband got an e-mail with a Red Green clip. Then we bought the 1998 Season because the whole family enjoyed it so much. Now my 10 year old son and all of the ladies at work who have borrowed the DVD's are all running around making noises like Harold and quoting Red. These video's are addictive. We now have a Red Green line item in the family budget to buy the entire collection. I don't know how girls will react to the show but I know that little boys LOVE it. Harold is my hero!

Male silliness at its best. Safe enough for the kids to watch also. A semi-parody of Home Improvement with just the men. Through out the coarse of the series you will see every use of duct tape known to man. Great fun!

A word from a woman 5 out of 5 stars.

Most reviews about Red Green are by men. Not very many are made by 24 year old women from the USA's Deep South. At least, that's where I was living when I discovered Red Green on my local PBS station. I can count on one hand the number of television shows that will make me laugh until i have to wipe my eyes, every episode. This is DEFINATELY one of them. Unfortunately I live in a place with no Red Green now. I haven't met a single person who knows who he is, or about the show. But, I'm building my own collection now. So should you! There's something truly wonderful about getting your friends together and showing them something new, that makes them laugh their tushes off. Men and women alike!

The possum lodge gang proves again and again that men are men women are laughing at them and anything is possible with enough duct tape.
