Set 11 Midsomers Murders 5 out of 5 stars.

I have all 11 sets and I love them. I am a retired Police officer of 27 years, If you like murder mysters you'll love it.

Time lag a concern. 2 out of 5 stars.

I have generally found this series well presented however I am losing faith with the length of time it is taking from air date to DVD release. With the new series now 3-4 years in front of the DVD release and the show destined for termination (apparently)I am going to wait until the whole series is released as a box set (which will be cheaper and probably quicker than waiting for this DVD series to be released!)

Loved It 5 out of 5 stars.

I have just about all of the Midsomer Murders collections. I have yet to be disappointed. Loved It!!!

Can't Get Enough of the Chief Inspector himself.... 5 out of 5 stars.

I have purchased all of the DVD's of the Midsomer Mysteries as I got hooked watching them when A&E as well as the BIO Channels was showing them in the states. Nobody does murder mysteries better than British Television...but my heart belongs to DCI Barnaby and his DS or DC sidekicks...Due in part because he (JN)looks so much like my late father who was our local Chief of Police for 42 years and secondly..everyone in my family are police officers. This series is done magnificently...from the music to the cinemetography to the outstanding story telling. Take the time to unwind and get lost in the always gruesome yet idyllic countryside known as Midsomer. Deb Korutz (Tootallbadgesmom)

One of the very few TV series that still is consistently good. This long-running series is the only video disks that we are buying these days. Netflix for the rest.

Upon receiving this product which did arrive quickly and was quit cheap in comparision to prices in Australia I was quite annoyed to find out that this actual DVD was not Season 10 as I had believed but Season 8, Part 2.
I'm not sure if they are released differently in the USA but in Australia this DVD set is DEFINATELY not Season 10.
Thankfully I didn't have Season 8, Part 2 so it didn't make too much of a difference.

This is one Brit series that just keeps getting better and better.I shall
be very sorry when Midsomer Murders reaches the end,John Nettles is super
and I enjoy the sutle humor and the beautiful scenery, there really are places such as this in England!I just hope they don't run out of victims! There appear to be at least two and sometimes three per episode.Sure beats the usual dull fodder on Tv these days.

Midsomer Murders Set 8 5 out of 5 stars.

These three episodes are some of the best of the series. Especially well done is the episode, "The Straw Woman." The storyline evokes depth from the Scott character that comes as something of a surprise if one has followed the series through from the beginning.

As always, these are outstanding. We watch them as soon as they arrive and then wait for the next set to come out. We have just about all of them and are anxiously waiting for set 11. Hope they never stop making Midsomer Murders, I believe that they would always be popular. The Brits seem to do the best when it comes to mysteries.........would like them to put Martha Grimes' Richard Jury stories into video.

still like the series but do not like the new Sgt. He is awful in my opinion. Of all the series # 8 is mediocre at best.

Great Series! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

A friend told us about this murder series so I went out and got the very first episodes. There were about if not 20 dvr's in this box. My husband and I got hooked on it on the very first dvr and ended up buying the rest of the series. If you like murders mysteries like we do, this is for you but be prepared for several deaths in each program. In fact, with all the murders in Midsomer, I am surpirsed there is anyone left in the town.

All but the holder 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The Early collection of Midsomer Murders is just great....but getting them off the plastic holder is Awful! If there is a trick to it, I haven't found it, (and have cracked one disc trying to get it)
On the other hand, once accessed and in the DVD player, well, it just doesn't get any better than that. As I have said for years, 'nobody does murder like the Brits,' and the Brits don't do any better than Midsomer Murders!
An added plus...this grandma and her 13 1/2 year-old grandson have bonded over beheadings, pitchforks though the tummy, and rifle blasts, much to said Grandson's mother's horror. (I love it!)

Midsomer Murders set 9 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My wife and I have viewed the eight previous sets and we feel this is a very well done series. Like anything else some we felt were very good others perhaps a little weaker. Our only real criticism with set 9 was the fact that the murder scenes were a little more graphic than previous episodes. And in some cases needlessly so.
Overall 4 out of 5 stars.

Fun Viewing of a Cozy Night 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

"Midsomer Murders, Set Nine," consists of four, approximately 100 minutes long, contemporary stand alone British mysteries from the long-running television series seen here on A & E and The Biography Channel. The series first aired in the United Kingdom in March, 1997; since then, more than 55 feature-length episodes have aired, with further episodes still in production.

The series is based on the novels of Caroline Graham, who worked in the classic English village school of mystery-writing, perhaps best exemplified by Agatha Christie. And some critics have called Graham the best detective writer since Christie. It is filmed in the quaint, green beauty of the English countryside, in fictional Midsomer County, where nasty things, treated rather lightly, with a certain sly humor, do seem to keep on happening, as the inhabitants go about their picturesque pursuits and recreations. These nasty goings-on frequently don't seem to have much basis in reality, nor motivation, nor backstory. But you can expect lots of village fetes; medieval-style mounted jousting matches, and regattas.

The mysteries are:
"Things that Go Bump in the Night." An odd group of spiritualists, and their not so spiritual leader, come under suspicion as a plague of peculiar murders hits the village of Fletcher's Cross.

"Dead in the Water." Set in the well-heeled world of competitive rowing, as a body turns up in the Thames River during the annual Midsomer Regatta. Diana Quick ("Brideshead Revisited") guest stars.

"Orchis Fatalis." Apparently the peaceful looking village of Midsomer Malham is inhabited by orchid-crazed individuals, ready to bankroll illicit expeditions to find extremely rare examples of the breed - or to kill for them.

"Bantling Boy." Lord Bantling, of a historic noble, but treacherous family, owner of Bantling Hall, dies, leaving his prize racehorse to a syndicate of four locals. Why ever? Anybody who knows isn't talking, and, as somebody is killing off the syndicate, soon isn't able to.

The series stars John Nettles("Bergerac") as family man Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby, with John Hopkins ("Love in a Cold Climate") as his young assistant Sgt. Dan Scott. Other guest stars include Garry Cooper and Caroline Blakiston. One note to the wise: the actors in supporting roles have been encouraged to trot out their country accents, and there are no subtitles. Some may have difficulty in following the stories.

Mind you, one of the chief hallmarks of the British village detective story has always been its eccentric characters: secretive pub keepers and their adulterous regulars; priests who've left irregular doings behind them in previous postings; three-times married---and then some-- lords of the manor. This series does not create such characters, and said characters certainly do not come back for the repeat appearances many viewers and readers love. Nor are detectives Barnaby and Scott sharply drawn: nothing to compare with Miss Marple, or Hercule Poirot. Or Columbo. Or Monk.

So"Midsomer Murders" can't be considered one of the legendary top rank of British mysteries, but it still has its pleasures. It can deliver fun viewing of a cozy night.

Midsomer Murders Set One 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Set one-nine are excellent for mystery fans. High quality production, good story lines, characters are much less dark than previous British Mystery series, and since BBCA doesn't always run the full episodes aired in GB, and often skips episodes, we were quite pleased the note several we had not seen.

British Mysteries, like those on PBS are not often rerun here so I snap them up as soon as they become available. BBCA's prices are significantly higher so I love that I can buy them on Amazon.

Exceptional Series 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I've seen about twenty of the Midsomer Murders and they are uniformly excellent. They represent a nice blurring of subgenres. At first they appear to be classic English mysteries, i.e. cozies--with the shrewd detective, the loyal assistant and a collection of village types (as we move from village to village within the county). The difference is that the stories are far more realistic and far more bloody. The characters are less quaint and chummy than those in cozies and far closer to the denizens of the world of crime fiction. The settings are beautiful, of course, though there is darkness and rain echoing the violence of the stories. The result is something for everyone--the lover of cozies, the lover of crime and detection and the lover of the English countryside. The continuing characters are attractive and engaging and each supporting cast usually includes one or two mainstays of the English theatrical community. The series is very entertaining, very thoughtful and characterized by strong production values. Go for it.

Midsomer Murders is one of the best series I have ever watched, it's intelligent, timely, cozy and beautifully acted. If you are looking for a new series to get into I would recommend you put this series first on your list. It's not gritty, bloody and ugly, but if you love murder most foul, you will no be disappointed.

Murder in a quaint English country side. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Not long ago I became addicted to a weekly mystery show called Midsomer Murders. It was set in a quaint English village that anyone living in the city would love to visit, of course once stations built a following they dropped the show.
So since then I have been buying the show's seasons a few at a time. The stories are intriguing with witty dialoge and interesting story lines. John Nettles leads us through clue after clue while trying to keep his private life sailing smoothly. Nettles as Inspector Barnaby and his brash young assistant Sargeant Dan Scott work tirelessly through the clues to discover who the culprit is, along the way there is comic happenings with the dry English dialogue that will have you smiling to laughing out loud.
So take a trip to the villages of Midsomer County and enjoy every twist and turn as the story unfolds. I promise you the residents will leave a lasting impression on you. Enjoy.

Cully Barnaby should be made a Midsomer Murder victim 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

"Midsomer Murders" as a whole presents the very best of what the British can do with the old-fashioned, village "whodunits". Tom Barnaby is the world-weary, low-key chief inspector who toodles around the fictitious Midsomer County, England, solving various murders. Some plots are a trifle thin, but most are engaging, and his sidekicks (Troy in the first several series, Scott in the last) are perfect foils for Barnaby's mature (and usually dead-on) instincts.

All that having been said, I simply cannot cope with the central character's long-suffering daughter, the unlikely-named CULLY. She is nothing more than a millstone around the viewer's neck, a constant Madame Bringdown who does nothing but throw a pall of misery over nearly every scene in which she takes part. Reviewer C. O. DeRiemer justly referred to her as a "grim, serious young woman"--an attitude that pushes her already-subdued father's demeanor even further into himself. Poor Joyce Barnaby, Cully's mother, is so soft-hearted and dithering that her child's blunt, cheerless, and wheedling mannerisms seem only to exacerbate the elder female Barnaby's innate excitability.

Either Laura Howard is a vastly underwhelming actress or, even worse, the creators/writers of this series actually wanted the character of Cully to come across as completely alienating. I can't help but notice that she:
1) has no friends 2) seldom has a romantic interest (*SURPRISE*) and 3) is constantly draped all over her parents' home, either living with them or simply dropping in to lecture or nag them. Horrible, horrible character--I'd have thoroughly enjoyed it if they'd incorporated Cully Barnaby into a plot as a murder victim.
