Editorial Review:

It was a day that no one who lived through it will ever forget. A young and vibrant president shot dead on the streets of a major American city --- the fourth presidential assassination in the country's history. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy was also the first time that U.S. television networks went to 24-hour coverage of a news story. ABC News takes you back to November 22, 1963. Many televisions on the east coast were tuned in to "Father Knows Best" when the first special news bulletin broke in with a report that the President had been shot. Watch as the information that is familiar to us now was reported for the first time - the first eyewitness reports and the first time we learn the shots were fired from the Texas School Book Depository. You also see police display the rifle Lee Harvey Oswald used and the first interview with Abraham Zapruder, the bystander who shot the now famous video of the motorcade and assassination, but whose significance was not fully appreciated at the time.

A wedding fan's review 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I stayed up all night when I was 13 to watch this wedding live on television. Recently, I began a search for coverage of the wedding as the 10th anniversary of Diana's death approached. This dvd was suggested to me and I was thrilled to find it. It does have wonderful coverage of the event and covers all the high notes. If what you are looking for is a reminder of the beauty and pagentry of this "wedding of the century", this dvd will be a wonderful addition to your collection. However, for a fan such as myself on whose teenage brain the wedding made such an impact, I found that some of the strategic cuts on the coverage eliminated things that I was looking forward to seeing again.

On July 29, 1981, an estimated 750 million people tuned in to see the heir to Britain's throne wed the 20-year-old former kindergarten teacher in St Paul's Cathedral. The fairy-tale courtship of Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles sparked worldwide interest in the royal family. ABC News' Peter Jennings and Barbara Walters bring you back to the culmination of years of speculation and intrigue, when Diana walked down the aisle in front of 3,500 invitees, trailing a 25-foot train to become the people's princess.

Editorial Review:

Diana, the Princess of Wales, had been divorced from Prince Charles for just a year. She was dating Dodi Al-Fayed, the son of Egyptian billionaire and owner of the British department store Harrods, Mohamed Al-Fayed, when a Paris weekend took a tragic turn. An automobile accident claimed their lives and that of a chauffer who was later found to have been drinking before taking the wheel. ABC News takes you back to August 31, 1997, during the Labor Day holiday weekend in the United States, when the world first heard reports of a car accident involving Princess Diana. Coverage picks up six days later, as the whole world mourned and Princess Diana's funeral procession made its way through the crowds lining the streets of London. Peter Jennings and Barbara Walters cover the events of the day with commentary from royal biographers Sarah Bradford and Andrew Morton. It culminated with the funeral service at Westminster Abby.

The News as we saw it on that day 4 out of 5 stars.

If you want to remember what information was availible on the day the market dropped this is a great DVD. It is a collection of the ABC news broadcasts from that day. It picks up with the market close and goes through the nightly news that night. You can look at a chart to see how big the drop was and what happend over the next few weeks, but this lets you hear what was on the news that day and what people were saying on that day. Anyone can predict a drop a year or two later when we have time to put it all together, this only gives you the information that was avalible that night. It is a great reminder of what we knew at the time.

Editorial Review:

It was a day that recorded the biggest percentage decline in the history of Wall Street: 22 percent. That was double the drop during the famed stock market crash of 1929, but there were many differences between the two events, as you will see from interviews with Charles Schwab, Robert Hormats, as well as ABC News reports from the opening of the Asian markets. ABC News takes you back to October 19, 1987.

Editorial Review:

The peace of an ordinary Wednesday morning was suddenly shattered by a massive explosion that destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah federal building, which had a childcare center on the second floor. It took most of the day to fully assess the damage. The final death toll was 168 with more than 500 injured. The fact that this day, April 19, 1995, was exactly two years after the tragedy at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco Texas, was apparent almost immediately, and many speculated that the two attacks were related. Although later reports shifted the focus to other possibilities, investigators quickly traced the explosion to a rented truck, and the truck to a suspect named Timothy McVeigh. McVeigh was ultimately tried, convicted...and then executed by lethal injection.

Interesting. 3 out of 5 stars.

This DVD is forty five minutes of the breaking news, a Nightline story, and an interview from Good Morning America the day of and the morning after the Columbine Shootings. While it is interesting to see the "classic" newscast, there is little information in the DVD to correct the initial mistakes in the reporting. Therefore, other than providing the blurbs of the newscasts, which are mostly inaccurate as far as what happened, the only thing you are really provided with is the first emotional blow of the shootings. I found it to be good, but I was frustrated that they never took the time to correct the story to the most simple measure, nor do they even take the time to list those who were killed. However they do take the time to talk about the shooters, and talk some about criminal profiling and that was a good way to close.

Solid Overview 3 out of 5 stars.

This is a solid overview chronicling the events during the Columbine shootings. I bought it to do a project at school with and it will give a good understanding of when things occurred. There could have been more done involving the kids who were victims and the shooters as well, but overall it is a good video.

On November 9, 1989 after nearly three decades of separation, East and West Berliners breeched the wall that forced them apart. As East Germany's Communist leadership opened the gates, crowds clamored atop the wall, tearing chunks away from the iconic image of the iron curtain. Join Diane Sawyer and Sam Donaldson for coverage from the day it happened -- including a live interview with President Reagan.

Editorial Review:

It was the 51st day of a controversial standoff that pitted a huge federal force against a self-described Messiah and his followers, who were holed up in a compound outside of Waco, Texas. The standoff ended in tragedy on April 19, 1993 as flames engulfed the building where David Koresh and his followers had made their stand, refusing to surrender. At least 75 of Koresh's followers died during the assault and fires; 25 of them were children. With emotions still raw, Ted Koppel conducted extended interviews with Attorney General Janet Reno, David Koresh's Attorney, Dick DeGuerin, and former Branch Davidian members. Ultimately an independent prosecutor cleared the FBI of responsibility for the deaths, ruling that "The responsibility for the tragedy rests with ... the Branch Davidians and their leader, David Koresh." The prosecutor added, "This is not a close call."

Editorial Review:

January 11, 1989. This was President Reagan's formal goodbye to the nation after the completion of two terms in office. President Reagan ended his farewell address to the nation by referring to a "shining city upon a hill," a phrase borrowed from the Pilgrim leader John Winthrop and by saying: "My friends, we did it. We weren't just marking time; we made a difference. We made the city stronger, we made the city freer, and we left her in good hands. All in all, not bad, not bad at all. And so goodbye, God bless you and God bless The United States of America."
