Want Wonder Woman In High Definition? 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Warner Bros. Premiere have been putting out DC Universe animated features revolving around the Detective Comics characters. First came Superman: Doomsday based on the record selling comic storyline in which Superman is actually killed, second came Justice League: The New Frontier based on award winning graphic novel's about the earliest beginnings of the Justice League, then Batman: Gotham Knight was animated with strong anime influence and told several stories set between the two latest live action films (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight). Now this March 3, 2009, we will finally get to see the animated DC Universe depiction of Wonder Woman's early beginning.

The story is said to be about the amazon princess Diana, on the secluded Island Themyscira, first meeting Steve Trevor, a pilot who crash lands on the island of no men. Diana must then fight in a tournament against fellow competing amazons for the right to escort Trevor back to the 'world of man' and along the way it seems the God of War Ares causes some trouble.

Keri Russell (Famous for Felicity, and more recently Waitress, August Rush and Bedtime Stories) will voice the young Wonder Woman and based on the quality of her recent work she should do well with the role. Nathan Fillion (co-starred with Russell in Waitress) will be voicing Steve Trevor. Alfred Molina (Doc Oc in Spider-man 2) will be Ares, Virigina Madsen (Co-star of Jim Carrey in Number 23) is Diana's mother Queen Hippolyta and Rosario Dawson (recently of Seven Pounds with Will Smith) voices Dianna's rival amazon Artemis.

The Blu-Ray special features are not listed but with past features they have been the same as the Two-Disc DVD which are said to be:

Disc 1- Commentary by the creative team, also as is customary with these releases a first look at DC/Warner's next animated feature project 'Green Lantern'.

Disc 2- 2 Documentaries- Wonder Woman: A Subversive Dream, and Wonder Woman Daughter of Myth: Historical Amazon Lore and it's Evolution into the Modern Day Wonder Woman Character. Also 2 bonus cartoons are mentioned to have been provided by Bruce Timm but I'm not yet sure what they are, though most likely in following suit with previous releases they will be from the Justice League series and prominently feature Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman should look great in this 1080p high definition feature running approx 74 min. These features are PG-13 and aimed at an older audience but with the exception of some intensely dark animation in Gotham Knight nothing I've seen in Doomsday or New Frontier would lead me to think this innappropriate for any child grade school and up. Still parent's should use their own discretion.

This is the first solo feature for Wonder Woman and it promises to be good. The new character design is finally more like what you'd expect the Greek mythology based character to look like and is the most fitting animated depiction yet. Hopefully this feature will portray her with the dignity she deserves as DC's third biggest icon and the same respect she was granted in the Justice League series, which to me is the most believably she has been depicted thus far (if only because of her lack of exposure in this medium to date).

The first look featurette on the Gotham Knight DVD, quality of the previous features along with casting choices and Bruce Timm of the Emmy winning Batman Animated Series producing make me feel comfortable giving this 5 stars right now for anyone who is a fan of well depicted female heroes or Wonder Woman herself.

Great Series 5 out of 5 stars.

Loved the series and the subplots it had in each episode. The epidode 'Plane 9 From Nantucket' was precious. I laughed my head off when they were in the plane and the passengers put on foil hats and had light bulbs in their mouths. Thanks to X-files for the inspiration.

Editorial Review:

Brothers Brian and Joe Hackett (Steven Weber and Timothy Daly) attempt to run a Nantucket-based airline while surrounded by their various wacky friends and employees. Series featured an outstanding supporting cast, including Crystal Bernard, Thomas Haden Church (Sideways), Tony Shalhoub (Monk) and Amy Yasbeck. Solidly funny sitcom that ran for several years.

True Comedy 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Real comedy, through and through. No scripts, no lines, no laugh tracks, no bloopers, no story, no plot, no special effects..

Just comedy.

What happens is 4 people are to improvise scenes based on suggestions given by the host (Drew Carey) and the audience. They have never been told any of the material so everything is said and acted off the top of their heads. It's pure unscripted comedy that will have you laughing constantly. Definitly a must have.

Editorial Review:

Make it up. Make it quick. Make it funny. You'll find the makings of great comedy fun in this 2-disc set featuring Season One's final 10 episodes of the hilarious improvisational series. Drew Carey is host, court jester and provocateur of this collection of unrehearsed and unhinged situations in which talented series stars and guests create weird newscasters (here's a sports report...underwater!), a rap song about an avalanche (comin' at ya - word!), a public-information film about camping (smother those flames!) and much more. Watch. Laugh. Pause. Repeat. Improv your mind with Whose Line Is It Anyway?

"The Complete Walking with... Collection"! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

"The Complete Walking with... Collection", is a compilation of "Walking with Dinosaurs", "Allosaurus - A Walking with Dinosaurs Special", and "Walking with Prehistoric Beasts". All the discs in this fold-out cardboard case are exactly the same as the original individual DVD releases.

No one has gone into much detail about the DVD itself, so I'll do so here...

"Walking with Dinosaurs"

Walking with Dinosaurs Program Description:

The Journey begins 220 million years ago with a trip back in time to the reign of the dinosaurs!

Using the latest scientific findings, Walking with Dinosaurs examines the 155-million-year history of these great creatures, from the aggressive Coelophysis, the first animal to hunt in a pack, to Tyrannosaurus Rex, the most terrifying carnivore on the planet. Feel the ground tremble as dueling Triceratops (that's a mistake, they're actually Torosaurus) lock horns, and soar with Ornithocheirus, who could travel over 300 miles on a single flap of his powerful wings.

Program Titles:

1. NEW BLOOD

2. TIME OF THE TITANS

3. CRUEL SEA

4. GIANT OF THE SKIES

5. SPIRITS OF THE ICE FOREST

6. DEATH OF A DYNASTY

Extras:

- 29 minutes of behind-the-scenes picture-in-picture footage

- 50 minute "making of" documentary

- Promotional trailers

This is an excellent program, and definitely my personal favorite of the three. Everything is incredibly realistic, to the CGI models, animatronics, locations, and even the story-lines. I must have watched it at least 10 times by now. (and I'm only talking about this DVD collection; I must have watched this series 50 times on our VHS recording)

The features are very good, and filled with plenty of jokes with the dinosaurs not doing what they're supposed to and the like. It's really neat to see them on location filming nothing or creating the animatronics and what-not. All the other features are excellent too.

"Allosaurus - A Walking with Dinosaurs Special"

Allosaurus - A Walking with Dinosaurs Special and Big Al Uncovered Program Descriptions:

In 1991, the most complete allosaurus skeleton ever found was discovered in Wyoming and fondly nicknamed "Big Al". Through careful excavation and restoration, scientists have pieced together a detailed biography of this one dinosaur. Using the same computer graphics and animatronics techniques that amazed viewers all over the world in "Walking with Dinosaurs", this program vividly recreates the 15 years from Al's birth to his untimely demise.

In Big Al Uncovered, Al haunts modern-day museums and dig sites as scientists explain how they picked up clues and traced the evidence of one dinosaur's life story.

Extras:

- Picture-in-picture sequence with over 40 storyboards

- Photo gallery

- CD-ROM sampler of screensavers, video clips, wallpaper and more

Just as good as "Walking with Dinosaurs" and very interesting to see more of Allosaurus from the second program from "Dinosaurs".

Big Al Uncovered was also very interesting and, again quite amusing. The rest of the features were also very good.

"Walking with Prehistoric Beasts"

Walking with Prehistoric Beasts Program Description:

When the dinosaurs disappeared from the Earth, they did not leave an empty planet behind them. A succession of extraordinary creatures came and went over the following millennia. The award-winning team behind "Walking with Dinosaurs" and "Allosaurus" invites you to take a trip to this amazing new world. Here, flightless birds as tall as a man kill with a single snap of their powerful beaks, early ancestors of man struggle for power and territory as they try to defend themselves from the famous saber-toothed tiger. And even the saber-tooth cannot take on the Glyptodon - the massive two-ton armadillo that is the most heavily armored mammal ever.

It's an extraordinary trip through history and evolution (nope) that begins with the end of the dinosaurs and ends with the rise of even more mysterious creatures... the first humans.

Program Titles:

1. NEW DAWN

2. WHALE KILLER

3. LAND OF GIANTS

4. NEXT OF KIN

5. SABRE TOOTH

6. MAMMOTH JOURNEY

Extras:

- Two 50 minute behind-the-scenes featurettes

- Interviews with the creators

- Fact files

- Photo gallery

- Storyboards

I felt, although this was almost as good as the first two, it was a little off its mark. Some camera shots could not really be filmed realistically, (like a Basilosaurus engulfing the camera with its mouth, effectively eating the cameraman) which took a little away from the realism, but this didn't happen very often. And, I personally could have lived without the slow-motion scenes. I also thought they focused a little too much on the hunting aspect, but again they didn't overdo it. Still a great program, and really neat to see some prehistoric mammals which are often overlooked.

The features are also quite good, and the interviews with the creators were very interesting.

The video transfer for all three are perfect as well as the sound, and all the features are very interesting and pretty funny too.

All in all, this collection is top-notch and quality entertainment, highly recommended!

Editorial Review:

Finally all three programs from the Emmy Award- winning Walking With...series -- Walking with Dinosaurs, Allosaurus: A Walking with Dinosaurs Specialand Walking with Prehistoric Beasts-- are available for the first time as a collector's set on DVD and VHS. The epic begins with a journey back 65 million years ago to a virtual lost world which has been recreated with spectacular digital effects and animatronics. The series continues as we follow the life and death struggles of 'Big Al,' the most complete allosaurus skeleton ever found. And finally, we explore our planet after the reign of the dinosaur and the succession of extraordinary creatures that came and went over the following millennia. The end of the dinosaur was only the beginning!

Outstanding First Season 5 out of 5 stars.

The DVD of The Wild Wild West First Season is absolutely great. It is in Black & White which is a big plus for me, but others should at least know as they may not be as thrilled. I also own Season Two which I found to be a bit disappointing. Season One has all the action, great villains with their ingenious plots and of course, the babes. Highly Recommended, this DVD collection is a must have for all fans.

The Legendary Series returns 5 out of 5 stars.

An array of outlandish villains and sinister organizations, an assortment of gimmicks and gadgets courtesy of Mr.Artemis Gordon and romance and fisticuffs by Mr James West. Extras include an appearence on the Mike Douglas show from the late 1970's as a promo for THE WILD, WILD WEST REVISTED. Great TV series! 5 out of 5 stars.

I love this TV series, i remember when i was a child! I love it!

Before Farrah Fawcett and Cheryl Ladd, TV audiences during in the mid-70's had WONDER WOMAN to go gaga over! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Wonder Woman is known in the comics world as one of the big three of DC Comics along with Superman and Batman.

With the current popularity of the Amazon princess in DC Comics as the hero who will cross the line by killing, it's a perfect time for a DVD release of the 70's television series.

Wonder Woman was originated by William Moulton Marston, a lawyer and psychologists whose work was instrumental in the creation of the polygraphi (lie-detector) machine and originally debuting in comic books in 1941.

Where Superman and Batman have gone through many actors, Wonder Woman will be remembered for the woman who played the character which was former Miss USA Lynda Carter.
With the search for the right woman, Lynda Carter was the perfect person for the job. Tall, beautiful, buxumous and literally the girl next door, no matter how campy the storylines were at the time, male audiences loved watching Lynda Carter and female audiences were inspired by the positive, strong female role that Lynda Carter portrayed in the Wonder Woman series

In the first season pilot which aired Nov. 1975 on ABC, the show centered around the WWII era as pilot Steve Trevor (played by Lyle Wagonner) who narrowly escaped death from gun shots from a nazi pilot.

Landing in Paradise Island, inhabited by only women, Diana Prince rescues the pilot, nurses him and is chosen to bring the injured pilot back to the US and later help America defeat the evil nazi regime.

Upon watching the episodes, I was amazed at how campy the series was. From the storyline, fighting sequences to the special effects. It's amazing to see how far special effects on television has evolved in the last 30 years.

The video (4:3), surprisingly for a 70's television show, looks good. Audio is presented in mono.

As for special features, the pilot episode commentary with series executive producer Douglas S. Cramer and Lynda Carter features a lot of behind-the-scenes information on the series.

But what made it much more enjoyable was to listen to the two in awe for not having seen the pilot for nearly 30 years.

Also, very fun to watch was the documentary Beauty, Brawn and Bulletproof Bracelets: A Wonder Woman Retrospective featuring Lynda Carter, Douglas S. Cramer Alex Ross and many more.

You really got to learn how many celebrities wanted to have a guest appearance on the series. How the spinning transformation and the sparking bracelets came about. How Wonder Woman was supported by women and feminists to Debra Winger's role as Wonder Girl. And much more.

Watching Wonder Woman sure has brought a lot of memories and watching it decades later was still fun and enjoyable.

Definitely recommended for fans of the series and fans of Wonder Woman. It's a fun, yet campy series from the 70's, made even more enjoyable on DVD with the commentary and documentary. Check it out!

Editorial Review:

Meet the United States' secret and most beautiful weapon in the fight against tyranny: Wonder Woman! Season One of Wonder Woman (the Pilot Movie and 13 regular episodes) retains the World War II era of the super heroine's early comic book adventures. Also captured is the exuberant tone of a comic book come to screen life as the warrior princess, empowered by her sense of a woman's worth and by the mysterious substance Feminum that's found only on her remote native isle, battles a succession of Nazi baddies. Former Miss USA Lynda Carter stars as the heroine who hides her identity behind the oversized glasses of a War Department functionary. But when duty and danger call, she transforms. And the wonders never cease.

Wild Wild West season 4 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have purchased all 4 seasons that have been released of the tv series The Wild, Wild West. I love the show and the stars. They are neatly packaged and easy to view.

I am however extremely disappointed in the lack of special features after the first season was released. Mr. Martin and Mr. Conrad deserve better. As someone who has put about 120$ into the DVD's, I deserve better. Shame on the company that is putting these DVD's together. You owe me a special DVD of extras in my opinion.

I think the price is too much for what you receive. Drop the price or increase the extra's.

Wild Wild West Season 4 5 out of 5 stars.

Editorial Review:

James West and Artemus Gordon are two agents of President Grant who take their splendidly appointed private train through the west to fight evil. Basis for US-Produced Cold Case and CSI's 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

If you want a look at how Cold Case Files and CSI came to be,
then obtain the BBC-produced Waking the Dead (Seasons 1 and 2). Absolutely tremendous writing, superb casting and acting, and believable characters that you can relate to. Whereas the US-produced Cold Case, CSI, etc., present us with "cookie cutter" gender leads, the British-produced Waking the Dead is not concerned with the looks as much as the believability of the characters. We were so impressed with these stories and their presentation that we purchased Seasons 3, 4, 5 directly from Amazon.UK, because those seasons are not yet produced for our playback region. We even purchased an "all region" DVD player to watch these. If you want to experience made-for-tv drama the way it should be done, do not deny yourself this experience.

Editorial Review:

The Cold Case Unit, led by quick-tempered, no-nonsense copper DS Boyd (Trevor Eve), have assembled to re-examine "unsolvable" crimes with cutting-edge detection techniques. But the pressure is on for this mix of forensics, psychology and detective investigation to yield results.
