Best deal on one of the best shows ever on TV 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Do yourself a favor and sit down and watch at least the first season of the Wire. I feel it truly is one of the best TV series I've ever seen. The subject matter is pertinent and real, the writing is phenominal and the acting is excellent. THe series interweaves varying points of view regarding the drug trade and shipping docks in Baltimore from the dealer, police and political perspectives. A great entertaining thought provoking series.

Editorial Review:

Unlike most television crime dramas which neatly introduce and then solve a case all in the space of one hour HBO's THE WIRE follows one single drug and homicide investigation throughout the length of an entire season. Focused on the drug culture of inner-city Baltimore the series' ultra-realistic storyline unfolds from the points of view of both the criminals lording the streets the police officers determined to bring them down and occasionally the politicians who often obstruct the process. Created by writer David Simon (THE CORNER HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET) THE WIRE's multifaceted approach offers a profoundly humane and wonderfully nuanced view of every aspect of the drug trade and the complex morality of its participants. The first four seasons of the show are included here.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/HBO UPC: 026359794421 Manufacturer No: 97944

Good Times & Happy Days with "What's Happening!!" 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Who doesn't have fond memories of Shirley, Raj and Rerun? I love "What's Happening!!" It is such a great 70's show. My favorite character was the one & only Big Mama herself, Miss Mabel King (may she rest in peace.) Big Mama is Big Laughs! But everyone on the show was very likeable and funny, especially Dee. So what if this is a kids show, it's still quality television at its very best. I hope Sony Pictures Television puts out more seasons of "What's Happening Now!!"

The Funniest show on TV! 5 out of 5 stars.

Hey, hey, hey! What's happening!! What's happening is that the TV show from the 1970s What's Happening is now on 3 DVDs! I think out of all three, Season One has the best episodes.

What's Happening!! also has the funniset charectors: Danielle Spencer as Dee and Shirley Hemphill as Shirley. Those are my 2 favorites, their wise cracks!! I was so upset when I found out that Shirley Hemphill died. She was spectacular!

Over all, if you love sit-coms, fantastic humor, and a fun DVD to watch...BUY THIS WITH OUT DELAY!!!

This is an outstanding series with Dr Hill being so unique. Its hard to tell sometimes whether he should be a patient or the pyschologist. His relationship with Carol is warm and thier friendship is beneficial to both of them. Its nice to see a woman actor play a script where it is written for a women. In American series the woman's role is written for a man and just play by a woman. It really makes it cartoonish. Wire In the Blood's characters are complete people with faults and emotions. I love this series and hopefully everyone will get a chance to see it.

It enables him to empathize with both victim and murderer ? and even to visualize the crimes. Working alongside Detective Inspector Carol Jordon (Hermione Norris), Dr. Hill helps the police profile and track down vicious killers in northern England.

Editorial Review:

When Dave and Vicky were growing up, their parents had it easy. Back then, there were no "time-outs," no one had any "boundaries" and their parents had no idea what their kids were really up to. Now Dave and Vicky have teenagers of their own, and anything their kids might even think about doing, Dave and Vicky have already done at least twice. But knowledge isn't power; it's a giant pain as every day is a battle to keep their kids in line. Fifteen-year-old Larry isn't exactly a frequent diner at the 'cool kids' table in the cafeteria, while 16-year-old Hillary is a know-it-all and is just emerging onto the dating scene. Meanwhile, thirteen-year-old Mike is all hormones and video games. Dave and Vicky figure if they can send these three off to college without a police record or kids of their own, they've done their job. This witty, irreverent show goes inside the heads of a modern family through the use of a confessional space where the characters reveal everything they could never actually say to one another.

As Good As I Remember 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It's been years since I've seen White Shadow and I hesitated in buying the DVD. I'm so sorry I waited. Unlike many other shows from that time the issues being dealt with are still relevant, some even more so at the present time. The acting was more than adequate and the on screen chemistry between most of the characters seems genuine. It doesn't surprise me that several of the actors went on to directing. They were (and some still are) very gifted actors. I enjoyed going through high school with them. A few more extras (like a gag reel) would have been awesome, but overall I am very pleased with the DVD set.

A timeless classic that fans are clamoring for! From the Creators of "COACH CARTER," "ST. ELSEWHERE," "NORTHERN EXPOSURE" AND "NYPD BLUE."

When professional basketball player Ken Reeves (Ken Howard) suffers a serious knee injury, his career comes to a grinding halt—and all his dreams of glory seem shattered. Fortunately an old friend, who is now the principal of a Los Angeles inner-city high school, offers him a job as a basketball coach. Although initially hesitant, Reeves' love of the game finally convinces him to accept the position. But he soon discovers the only thing worse than his team's lack of skill on the court is their lack of belief in themselves off the court. Yet the new coach feels certain that the right combination of guts, sweat, luck and attention will make his players winners in the end.

The best season of What's Happening! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This season is the funniest of TV shows I remember watching as a kid. Here are the reasons:

The Doobie Brother's episodes...."Which Doobie do you be?" - Til' this very day, any time Michael Mc Donald appears on Tom Joyner/Steve Harvey, they use that joke. And strangly, it is still funny.

Dee's first date "Well it worked on 'Baretta'" How many times have you told your momma that.

The Givens Kids episode...with that catchy "brown bubblin' sugar" song.

Rerun worships lettace...'nuff said.

If this is not a reason to run out and buy it...then see the third season of What's happening....you'll apppreciate this one more.

Official Studios Release 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I too would love to see WAGON TRAIN, Season One in a box set. Instead, we are stuck with the only three episodes legally allowed to be sold (so thank goodness for companies like Alpha). I get to meet actor Denny Miller, who played Duke Shannon on this TV series, this September in Aberdeen at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention to talk about his screen work. He played the role on this series less than 30 times (it was a recurring role) but thankfully one of them, "The Malachi Hobart Story" from january 24, 1962, is available on this DVD so I recommend it.

Deserves better... 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Wagon Train series really deserves better than the release of just three episodes on DVD. Also, the transfer quality in my opinion is pretty poor, although the stories are watchable enough.
It is difficult to overstate the popularity of this series at the time of it's original showing in the late fifties/early sixties. The Ward Bond episodes are the best in my opinion, and apart from a number of episodes released on vhs tape about 10 years ago, there is nothing.
That's a real shame for what was without doubt one of the best western series ever made, with many star actors making appearances. I live in hope that this series will be given the status it deserves and released on DVD in full restored quality soon.

A wonderful first episode, but it's on the Season One DVD 5 out of 5 stars.
62 of 62 people found this review helpful.

The Foundling is the first episode of the first season of The Waltons, and it really is quite remarkable. You would be hard pressed to tell this was the first episode of the series, for one thing, as all of the qualities that made The Waltons such a wonderful, uniquely warm-hearted show, are all there on display. There is no effort made to somehow identify each of the characters for the audience, as this was from the very beginning a family rather than a grouping of characters. Granted, this was not the first time America had met this family. On December 19, 1971, The Homecoming aired on CBS, introducing America to the Walton family (originally, the Spencer family as described in Earl Hamner's novels and even a feature film from 1963 starring Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara). The success of that TV movie inspired the series, which debuted on September 14, 1972. Many of the actors and actresses from The Homecoming assumed the same roles on the series, with three very important exceptions: Ralph Waite now played the role of John Walton, Miss Michael Learned assumed the role of Olivia Walton, and Will Geer became not only Grandpa Walton but in many ways the entire nation's Grandpa (and, for my money, the most beloved character in television history).

As this first episode begins, a little girl is left on the proverbial doorstep of the Walton home. Livie's maternal instincts come to the fore immediately, and the whole family really takes the poor girl Holly immediately into its collective heart, even convincing the pragmatic John to keep her rather than turn her over to "a home." They soon learn that the silent little girl is deaf, at which point the family members take it upon themselves to learn the rudiments of sign language and teach the girl to communicate. The girl's mother secretly watches everything, and we learn that she abandoned her daughter in a last-ditch effort to keep her husband from putting the girl away somewhere as a worthless "throwback." John-boy is somewhat distracted early on, as he is busy pitching woo to the always incredibly wishy-washy Marsha Woolery, but he - as you might expect - makes the first real breakthrough in terms of drawing young Holly out of her shell. Elizabeth, of course, gets jealous when she sees Holly getting all of the family's attention, and this leads to a real crisis.

It's a wonderful episode, showcasing the warmth of TV's ultimate family-oriented series, but I must tell you there is really no reason at all to buy this DVD. The entire first season of The Waltons has now been released on DVD, and The Foundling is only one of the 24 heart-warming episodes included in that must-buy collection.

Side splittingly hilarious!! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

No matter how many times I watch this show, I still can't stop laughing at it.

So many priceless moments (I'm thinking Ryan as a "Foal being born" and Wayne singing in the style of "Michael Jackson getting older"... both brilliant and hilarious no matter how often you watch it)

I can't watch just one episode, and always feel it in abs the next day (from all the laughing).

I hope they release the entire series! Puh-leeeeeese!

The Bright Side of Life 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

"Whose Line is it Anyway?" should be a reminder of the bright side of life. It's an ultimate way of escapism. All of the games ("Scenes from a Hat," "Dating Service Video," "Weird Newscasters," "Moving People," "Greatest Hits," etc.) should be something to look forward to if you're downright depressed. So join in with Carey, Brady, Sherwood, Siegel, Proops, Esten, Davis, Greenwood, Mochrie, and Stiles (along with guest stars for the entire series like Springer, Simmons, Goldberg, and especially Williams) on the fun, and, in the words of Monty Python, "always look on the bright side of life".
