I exspected much much more from this DVD. #1- he acted weird, like he was on something, #2- his voice was off, he was trying to hard and #3- thirdly he sat through the DVD. I don't think this concert had high energy only he seemed high. he talked way to much. I am going to try another Meatloaf DVD and let this one sit and gather dust. hope this helps you, it would have me.

Too much talking 3 out of 5 stars.

I was disappointed in the fact there was so much talking and not enough singing...I am used to Meatloaf being "exciting" but this format did not do it for me...

Inimate portrait of a very special kind of rock star 5 out of 5 stars.

Very interesting, frank and a great listen this is one of the best music/artist documentaries - with videos of the Jim Steinman hits - ever released.

Great! 5 out of 5 stars.

Great Show, Glad To See On PSP 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 12 people found this review helpful.

The show Viva La Bam is about Bam Margera, a Pro Skaterboarder whose job is not just limited to skating. Of Course his other job could be considered basiclly doing what Aston Kutcher Does on Punk'd everyday, but to his Family. Ape his Mom (April Margera) his dad Phil Margera who is obviously overweight, along with Phils brother Don Vito who seems to get the worst of Bams wrath of pure destruction. Bam and his friends basically are jerks to everybody, including each other. The basis of the show is... Bams and friends wrath of destroying, skating, pissing off, and just plain screwing off. How Such a show can be inviting is that its like a car wreck, its so bad that you cant look away. Viva La Bam is taking a huge step by being the first show to be on PSP, that is on UMD, and will hopefully not be the last to make this move. Not only that but for 16-17 bucks how can it not be worth it?

Editorial Review:

Welcome to Bam's World! Some say he's a skate guru who's skidded face-first down the vert ramp one too many times. Others claim Phil and April dropped him on his head. And he liked it. So they did it again... and again... and again! To those who know and love Bam Magera, he's merely a guy who likes to have fun at the expense of those he loves. Welcome to the manic world of bam - just make sure to watch your back!

Disarmingly honest and with perceptive insights into human nature 5 out of 5 stars.

Any inclination to put Bruce Springsteen into the mold of being a shallow pop performer is wiped away after watching "Bruce Springsteen - VH1 Storytellers".

"VH1 Storytellers" is a television program where singer-songwriters perform some of their songs and tell about the how and why of each song's creation. One can argue that the program is more for the education and inspiration of budding songwriters than for fans of the artists invited to participate. Still, I'm reviewing this DVD version of "Bruce Springsteen - VH1 Storytellers" as a fan, not as an aspiring songwriter.

In this program Bruce sings eight songs, accompanying himself on guitar or piano. No band. On "Brilliant Disguise" he invites his wife Patti Scialfa to sing backup, but otherwise he is alone on the stage.

Between the songs Bruce tells the story behind each song. This results in about 40 minutes of music and 56 minutes of talk, at least for the PAL version of the DVD. (Timing may be a bit different on the NTSC version.)

Bruce's discussion of his songwriting is very enjoyable, even confidence-inspiring. He comes across as a disarmingly honest person with perceptive insights into human nature. I found myself liking him a lot, much more than I had expected, having my prejudices regarding what show business and success does to people.

For example, Bruce mentions that he wrote up a lot of notes in preparation for this program. He then quips that on reviewing the notes he thought they made him sound very self-centered, and figured that for that purpose he didn't need notes!

And when discussing "Thunder Road", he dissects the line, "I got this guitar and I've learned how to make it talk." His verdict: "Probably the hokiest line I ever wrote - and I've written a few of them, let me tell you!"

Bruce presents both serious songs and fun songs. The serious songs are followed up by serious discussions of personal ideals vs. politics and reality, the influence of religion (his Catholic background) on his songwriting, and the multiple personalities that we each present depending on the situation. All of which I found fascinating - I was impressed by his understanding and his modesty.

Following the main program there is a 16-minute question and answer session. This too was very interesting, with Bruce talking about his feelings and motives as a songwriter. For example, when asked about "Devils and Dust", he mentions that he has a couple of boys who are 14 years old, so a parent's concern about his child going off to war has become relevant for him.

A few final notes about the DVD itself. As mentioned above, for the PAL version the program is 96 minutes and the Q&A session is 16 minutes, for a total of 112 minutes. Subtitles are available in Dutch, French, German, Italian and Spanish, but not, unfortunately, in English.

Highly recommended, even if you're not a Bruce Springsteen fan.

Editorial Review:

Recommended more for quality of live performance than for storytelling, VH1 Storytellers: Classics is a seven-song compilation from the popular VH1 series, bearing all the strengths and weaknesses inherent in the program. Some of the featured musicians are fine raconteurs, and the format of the show encourages them to share the genesis of their best-known songs. Pete Townshend explains that the title of "Baba O'Riley" was a combination of two people who inspired him when he wrote the song: Indian spiritual teacher Meher Baba and electronic musician Terry Riley (he added the "O'" for a touch of Irish flavor). David Bowie explains how "China Girl" arose from a collaboration with Iggy Pop after a moving experience in a Berlin punk club; and before launching into an outstanding performance, Steely Dan's Donald Fagen describes "Kid Charlemagne" as an allusion to the passing of the 1960s.

Other performers have little or nothing to say about the songs they perform (when asked, Rod Stewart shamefully can't recall who originally played mandolin on "Maggie May"), but virtually all of these performances are first-rate and fully deserving of their inclusion. Surprisingly--or perhaps not--Ringo Starr provides the highlight, recalling how his melancholy feeling of exclusion during the recording of the Beatles' White Album led him to take a holiday in Sardinia. It was there that he was inspired to write "Octopus's Garden," and his performance of that song--with his hand-picked band the All- Stars--is as purely delightful as the original recording. --Jeff Shannon
