At their peak? 5 out of 5 stars.

Perhaps the Stooges in their finest shorts. The two Nazi parodies are worth the price alone. Curly is in top form, not showing any of the signs of his heart sickness that later shorts will document. Every sight/sound gag in their repertoire is on display: the fully realized Stooges "concept," if you will.

As with the previous two releases, the sound and image quality, so sorely lacking for so many years, is razor sharp. The collection looks to have been imported from original negatives, they are so good.

Mammy 5 out of 5 stars.

One of the all-time best routines is when the boys sing Mammy in "All the World's a Stooge". Also in this short is Curly's recitation of "Little Fly Upon the Wall". Pure genius.

great one 5 out of 5 stars.

Big fan of the stooges. Added this little baby to my growing collection of this version of the stooge shorts. This is a wonderful collection to buy for any stooge lover out there. So far...so good.

FINALLY! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I waited years for this to be released in an ultimate DVD set. I pre-ordered it and was so thrilled when it arrived. The packaging is great, and includes several limited edition postcards of stills from the show. Also, the original and extended endings are offered for the pilot! I had held off on ordering the first season when it was originally out because the version of the pilot was not the original version (I instead ordered a copy of the original pilot from SOUTH KOREA!). It's so lovely to have everything in one gorgeous little box!! If you are a Twin Peaks fan, or a fan of David Lynch in general, as I am, definitely get this set! What are you waiting for?!

Editorial Review:

The highly anticipated complete series of one of the most acclaimed events in television history finally comes to DVD. No DVD collection is complete without Twin Peaks: The Definitive Gold Box Edition!

Another Volume Of Three Stooges Hilarity! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

After purchasing the first volume of the Three Stooges collection and watching it with family members, I was pleasantly surprised that the second volume was out so soon! I pre-ordered it as soon as I could and, after viewing each short from 1937-1939, was not disappointed in the least!

The first volume had a few (but ONLY a few) clunker episodes as the Stooges and their directors were still trying to find their niche, but this volume is air-tight in both acting and directing, as the Stooges really find their formula in appealing to the baser instincts of Depression-Era film-goers (as movies were one of the few things they COULD afford for entertainment).

In my opinion, this is (overall) the best volume of the four that have been released so far, as there isn't a bad episode in the bunch. If you enjoyed the first collection, or just love the Stooges in general, buy this product with confidence that it will give you many hours of side-splitting laughs!

Remember: " 'Gritto' spelled sideways is 'ottriguh-guuuhhh'..." 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The fourth chronological collection shows Moe, Larry and Curly at their best with the twenty-one shorts from 1943 to 1945. In many ways, the shorts are transitional, as ill-health has begun to take its toll on Curly. Problems with high-blood pressure and other medical issues, including a series of mini-strokes that worsened in 1946 are evident in the later shorts in the collection. Even in the classic, "Micro-Phonies," one of their best shorts, shows Curly at just slightly less manic and physically frantic as those of just a year or two earlier. Still, with a few exceptions, these two- reelers show the comedy team at their slapstick best.

Before commenting on the films themselves, it is important to note that Sony has done a fine job in restoring the shorts. Gone are the scratches and out-of-focus scenes, as well as the crudely edited offerings previously shown on TV. Picture and sound are excellent; one can imagine the enjoyment experienced in theaters when these classics first appeared onscreen.

Many of these shorts are not seen today on television. During the war years, plots revolved around antics against Nazis and "Japs" in ways now considered to be politically incorrect. In particular, "The Yokes on Me" features the Stooges efforts to capture three Japanese "escapees" from a relocation camp. Although the physical comedy is typical stooge slapstick, the idea that US Citizens were imprisoned in WWII remains repugnant. Still, the short reflects the (unfortunate) prevailing attitude of the times. Other shorts, such as "No Dough Boys" are more innocuous, parodying stereotypes in more cartoonish "over-the-top" ways.

"They Stooge to Conga" is the first of the 1943 shorts and is considered to be the most violent of the shorts. Even slapstick devotees cringe when Curly impales his telephone pole climbing spike in Moe's eye, ear and skull. I would agree that is over the top, but it is like a car wreck: one feels compelled to watch. Look for Dudley Dickerson, the gifted African-American character actor, whose brilliant comedy antics are sadly seen as too-stereotypical for today's audiences. The Stooges used him in a number of their comedies. Given the nature of the times, his performances are physically inspired pieces of slapstick.

"Back from the Front", released later in 1943, features Moe's third impersonation of Hitler. The short takes place on the S.S. Schickelgruber and features non-stop mayhem. The stooges look interesting in their full beards.

"Micro-Phonies" is one of my favorite Stooge shorts. Although Curly's physical mannerisms have been slowed by his medical difficulties, facial expressions and precision mimicking of "The Voice of Spring" are priceless. Together with Moe and Larry, he offers musical interpretations of several classics that makes one wish that the Stooges had done more with song and dance in their comedies.

Like all of the shorts, viewers have their preferences. Still, most of those in this volume are entertaining, providing laughs some 60-plus years after their original release.

Editorial Review:

The hilarious slapstick antics of Larry, Moe and Curly are back in digitally re-mastered versions of The Three Stooges shorts originally created from 1943 - 1945. The set includes, in original release order, all 21 complete shorts filmed during these years.

The dark side of the doctor 5 out of 5 stars.

Excellent series of Torchwood episodes. Very dark and violent at times (and filled with homosexual undertones - which we like!), but this balances the humor of dr WHO. Excellent.

This is a great season! 5 out of 5 stars.

The Torchwood series is incredible! The effects are great, the characters constantly surprise you, and the aliens and monsters are fabulous. If you like science fiction shows like Star Trek and Dr. Who, then this is for you.

More good stuff from Cardiff 4 out of 5 stars.

For the most part I liked this series as much as the first one, but I intensely disliked the character die off at the end. I wonder how the third season, rumoured to be just 5 episodes, possibly shown in one week (in the UK), will deal with that???

Powerful series, more outstanding British telly! 5 out of 5 stars.

Torchwood Series Two presents even better scriptwork, more in depth character development, and several deep kidney punches in the storyline, not to mention the magnificent tie ins to Doctor Who really makes this a better season than Season One.

The only sad thing is, here in the states, we'll have a long wait for Season Three!!

It's Like Watching My Own Memories on DVD 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Seriously...It could have been written about myself and my group of friends. We were high schoolers in the same timeframe with the same group of personalities and somehow managed to survive to same ups and downs, trials and tribulations and joys, failures and triumphs, faced the same issues...very accurately portrayed. As an added bonus, Red Forman reminds me in many ways of my own dad, who sadly passed away in 1995, so I would have to say Red is my favorite of all the well-written characters on this gem.

I was a fan of this show from the first time it aired on network television and was a faithful viewer through every season.

Great Series, Great Amazon Service, Not So Disk Quality 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Two of the disks in this set were bad, Amazon replaced the entire set with no hassles.

This is great spin-off of Dr. Who, a little more adult than the kid friendly Dr. All of the family, Mom, Dad and the Tenn Boys, enjoy it.

this sexy supernatural police force 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This modern TV story of "good zombies" of London-based Torchwood police force team fighting aliens and other supernatural creatures accomplishes five sequences, of which "Cyberwoman" might be omitted to spare a time.

As accustomed in nowadays visual works, sex possesses a particular part in actions: a Torchwood leader is a homosexual character and some other team members are bi-sexual.

Editorial Review:

Separate from the government, outside the police, beyond the United Nations, Torchwood sets its own rules. Led by the enigmatic, ever watchful Captain Jack Harkness, the Torchwood team delves into the unknown and fights the impossible. Everyone who works for Torchwood is young. Some say that’s because it’s a new science. Others say it’s because they die young.

What You'd Expect Reality Television To Really Be Like 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 13 people found this review helpful.

I'm continually impressed with Ira Glass as an editor, interviewer and now with his new Showtime programme, This American Life, TV host. I honestly can't believe how good this series is. I've watched every episode back to back twice and I'm still reeling.

Quite simply, this is reality television or what reality television should have been before it got commandeered by posers in constructed atmospheres. Have you ever thought about why it's called "Reality TV" when there isn't anything real about it? A bunch of people who would never meet up in real life are thrown together in a completely artificial situation-a house, an island-to compete for something equally artificial-a modeling contract, a million dollars. That's not real. This American Life is a hundred percent human, real, and down to earth all the time. The stories are forthright, touching, amazing.

It's a testament to Ira's skill as an interviewer that he somehow manages to find people and tell their stories without artifice-there isn't an ounce of cheese or a single turn of spin in any one of these stories. You don't hear Ira or his staff ask a lot of questions on camera, but he must be amazing at his job because he brings out the best in people. Also the camera shots in this series are outstanding. In one interview a 13 year old boy rallies against love while his red headed classmate floats dreamily though a field of grass. In another interview the viewers get to see Chance the Bull through the kitchen window of it's owner. It's beautiful. All of it. It's simply amazing. My husband and I were both teary eyed after several of these stories.

Besides meeting a 13 year old boy who has sworn off love, you'll visit a Chicago hot dog stand where customers and staff swear at each other in a free for all that brings out the worst in human nature, sit with a man who watches TV in his wife's mausoleum every other day, walk the ranch of a kind hearted Texas man who had his beloved bull cloned and you'll probably give up meat after "smelling" an Iowa pig farm. And after every single episode you'll feel like the human race isn't headed for a big black hole in space after all. You'll feel like we're good, like there's hope for us because it can't be that bleak if this is what people are really like-vulnerable, kind, interesting, good hearted.

If you're looking for more culture like this-I'd recommend The New Kings of Non-Fiction edited by Ira Glass and Best American Essays 2007 edited by David Foster Wallace. And for a movie that's down to earth (if a little quirky) Eagle v. Shark.

Editorial Review:

The widely popular, award-winning Chicago Public Radio show of the same name is now a Showtime show. Drawing on a different theme each week, viewers hear compelling stories from everyday folks culled from six months on the road. Host Ira Glass and company create a captivating look at the American Life in a series that’s not quite documentary, not much of a news magazine and definitely not a reality show – it’s simply unlike anything else.

... In the "Zone"... 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I've very little to add to any of the previous reviews. I just wanted to put it out there that anyone that may have been holding off buying any TZ DVD collection can stop waiting. Nevermind the superb A/V transfers from the masters, the bonus features are above and beyond anything any fan could hope to find. Commentaries from a who's who of the great actors that have graced the show, the fantastic music scores, the Rod Serling goodies,... they all make this set far and away the best DVD set to date, not only of the "Zone", but of almost any television show box set I've ever seen. Don't hesitate to get this set, you'll be glad you did!

Twilight Zone rocks 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I spent over $800 on the VHS videos from Columbia House two decades ago. I spent less than $140 for the complete DVD set and discovered more treasures, rare filmed interviews, bonus extras and high-quality transfers that are far superior to what I have been watching the past 20 years.

The retail price keep lowering over the months but by now it's beyond affordable. I recommend you grab this season box set today.

I also suggest you buy "The Twilight Zone: Unlocking the Door to a Television Classic" because the 800 plus page book is a P-E-R-F-E-C-T companion to the DVD box set. Before or after you watch an episode, you can use the book to uncover the in-jokes, bloopers and trivia that make viewing these episodes fun. Watching the shows is one thing, knowing the behind-the-scenes stuff is even more fun. Both are available on Amazon.

Well, what can I say? Being a "product of the 70's", my hubby and I are truly addicted to this sitcom series. Season 2 seems to have several episodes that aren't normally aired on the "rerun tv stations" here in the Greater LA area, so we were pleasantly surprised to remember some of the shows that we hadn't seen in years. A few of the "holiday episodes" were ones that we don't remember EVER viewing, so we had some nice suprises viewing this boxed set as well! Will be enjoying this purchase for years to come, we're sure.
