SNL's MVP 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

4.5 stars

Hartman was a comic genius, period. He was the best supporting actor ever on SNL, hands down, able to take a walk-on in a crappy skit and turn it around with one line. He was also a fabulous impressionist; his Sinatra, Clinton, etc etc are classics.
I agree with the other reviewers here that this is NOT the best stuff he did for the show, but there are a few of his best here, and those alone make this a must.
Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer may be my all-time favorite SNL short; a perfect script and Phil milks it to the hilt.
Lots of other nuggest here; just watching Hartman's face is enough to crack me up even when he's not speaking. He was a true master of comedy.
You may also remember him as Troy McClure, star of such shows as News Radio, but some of his best moments are here.
BUT, many more of his best skits lay in the vaults; there were dozens of great ones and dozens of good ones.
Lorne Michaels should be kicked in the ass for not having a Volume Two out by now.
We miss you, Phil. You made life a lot more fun.

Ok so maybe not a perfect film, but I stand by my rating 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

A lot of TV shows that make it big there is always talks of a possible movie and with the exception of the X-Files it turns out to be nothing, but talk. The biggest problem faced is getting a plot that you would have trouble making into an episode. The Simpsons Movie in my opinion was an excellent movie and while I wouldn't say it was great despite my rating it's one of those movies that is just so entertaining that any flaws that can be found are easy to ignore.

The first half of the movie I found to be the best and it was really just so funny, but the 2nd half doesn't work as well, but it's always funny and always entertaining. Though at times it does sort of feel like an extended episode in my opinion, but again despite any problems I never found anything not to work. Like I stated The Simpsons Movie is just one of those flicks that is so much fun that any flaws can easily be ignored. This is some of the most fun I had watching a movie. The plot does sort of play out like an episode and that's why I said it does sort of feel like an extended episode.

Homer does something that can possibly destroy Springfield, Marge gets fed up and leaves with the kids and in the end Homer does the right thing. We've seen this done countless times on the show, but it still works well and The Simpsons Movie is just a blast to watch from beginning, middle to end.

There were far too many writers to list them all 11 in total and all the writers write for the TV series. Though I have to wonder why it took 11 to write the script, but regardless the script was very solid. As I stated in this review the first half was the best of the movie and the writing was really great. Even in the 2nd half when I felt the movie to slightly lack it was still well written. Watching the TV series I knew what to expect out of the writers, but I think the movie was a lot better written than I thought it would be. I mean I wasn't expecting a bad script or anything, but the script did turn out a lot better than I thought it would.

David Silverman serves as director and like the writers he also works for the show. Obviously someone from the show would direct seeing as who would know better? When it comes to TV shows turned into feature films the best director is always someone involved with the show, people often come up with a wish list, but just because someone is a great director doesn't mean they can turn a TV show into a movie. You still need to stay true to the concept of the show.

In films it's more about the director than writers, where as TV is more about the writers since directors normally don't have much control unless they write or produce the show. So there won't be as much creative freedom and again you have to stay true to the concept. If you watch the show you should know what to expect. Like TV shows, The Simpsons Movie is more driven by the writers, but Silverman does a solid job at taking this from TV series to feature film.

People often underrate Voice actors and the cast of the Simpsons are terrific. All of them really bring so much to the role and Dan Castellaneta is just too funny as Homer. As funny as the writing is it really is Dan Castellaneta's voice for Homer that makes it work so well.

Pretty much all the characters from the show appear and some like Ned Flanders plays a nice size role while others like Principal Skinner is just sort of there, but with only 90-minutes compared to about 22-episodes it's a lot tougher to work in the other characters. But even with screen time lacking for some everything still works out well.

Overall despite the flaws, The Simpsons Movie is just so much fun to watch and even though the 2nd half slumps slightly its never boring and always fun.

Editorial Review:

20th Century The Simpsons Movie (Blu-ray) Homer accidentallycauses an environmental catastrophe which could doom Springfield forever. Homer now must save the city and rescue his family. Springfield's usual characters and new favorites all turn up in the firstever movie length version of the hit TV show, 18 years in the making.

My daughter loves it! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My 18 month old is obsessed with letters and the alphabet, so I purchased this DVD. She enjoys Sesame Street as well, so I thought this would be good. She is GLUED to this video whenever I put it on! She dances when they sing the alphabet. I would have liked to see more of the old school characters on this video, like Grover, Oscar, Ernie, Bert and Cookie Monster (Ernie and Cookie Monster are in it briefly). But all in all, she loves it and is learning so I'm happy with it.

not a good introduction to the alphabet 2 out of 5 stars.

my twin boys hated this video - it was boring and on top of that, the letters that they DID learn were never pronounced correctly! they ended up learning the alphabet from the leapfrog letter factory.

fun to watch 4 out of 5 stars.

Good video for learning the ABC's. My 1 year old can sing the whole song.

the boys love it! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a really cute DVD- my twins just love it, and will get upset if I put something else in!

It's not the best..... 3 out of 5 stars.

I bought this for my son with 2 other Sesame Videos. Out of the 3, this one is his least favorite (and mine). It just doesn't hold his interest for some reason. I wish I would have chosen a different one.

I bought this for my son as a Christmas present and it is great! He has learned so much from it. Of course it helps that he loves Elmo, but I highly recomend it.

Not Much Elmo 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My two year old loves Elmo. We first bought the Elmo Potty Time Video and he absolutely loved it. It had plot, narrative, songs-- everything I associate with a quality Sesame Street Product.

Maybe I'm just not a fan of the "Elmo's World" concept-- Elmo yells at an imaginary door, then a shade, then a computer yells at him.... I don't like the set (crayon scribbles instead of real objects and furniture as in Elmo's Potty Time).

My son will watch when Elmo is on--- but during the parts with Mr. Noodle, etc. it might as well not be on.

For Elmo fans--- and fans of the old fashion high-quality Sesame Street productions--- the Elmo's World series is probably not for you. It certainly wasn't for us.

Another great show from Jerry and Silvia Anderson! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Ignore the comments about the sound quality, these shows are meant to be seen as they were watched all those decades ago. Playing too much with the pictures and sound is like putting a brand spanking new Ferrari engine in an E-Type Jaguar. Okay it runs better and faster, but it just is not an E-Type Jag any more - and where is the fun in that?

The first time I watched this show was on a black and white mono TV, so seeing the series in color is always an improvement.

The only thing I remembered about Space 1999 before buying this series was that I loved the show and the cool space vehicles that were on the show. Watching the episodes again was like watching them for the first time but with a twist. Constantly I was saying to myself "ah yeah, I remember that!"

Like UFO, you need to watch this show in the context of the time it was made. Don't expect ILS quality special effects and you will not be disappointed.

As a side bar - I always loved how shows made around that time in the UK often had a token American in them to help sell them `over the pond"!

Don't miss this series and at the price it is a bargain.....17 DVD's for under $50...wow!

My kids love it! 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My kids (3 and 1 and a half) love Sesame Street's Count on Me 123 video. They were a little younger when I first bought it and while the storyline (Ernie finds a 'Furry Arms' room key on the street, returns it to the hotel & starts teaching everyone how to count) went over their heads at first, the catchy tunes, skits & scenes (mainly from the early Sesame Street episodes) soon caught their attention. There's a cohesive plot & everything links well.

Now my 3-year-old knows most of the words and even my one-and-a-half can say some numbers - it's a great video, fun to watch even for adults, and I highly recommend it.

Learning about Letters is more of a cut-and-paste of other Sesame Street skits & scenes - not that this isn't good, just that it's standard fare. I like that they are taken from the earlier Sesame Street episodes as I prefer the quality then. And my one-and-a-half year old loves the "C is for Cookie" song that I remember from back then!

A Masterpiece 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I obviously don't own this yet but own all boxsets up till now and having watched the new episodes a number of times it is a superb climax to what is possibly the greatest TV show while not hitting the highs of series five it still remains quality throughout with the last two episodes in particular being fantastic.

Thanks HBO for the series...but 4 out of 5 stars.

Greetings to all Sopranos fans out there. I really wish not to spoil anything for your folks while reading this but as a fan i can assure you disapointment.

i had actually waited till the BD version of season 6 parts 1 & 2 came out. Never read or bothered to ask anyone what happend in the end of this amazing saga.

Just today i finished watching both parts and honeslty i was shocked by disapointment on 2 levels:
1) the ending seemed like not an ending but some leaway for possibly bringing it back, (wishful thinking)
2) very poor special features on the last disk. (even the commentay was not there for the last episode.)

i mean i am still a fan and will be forever but i dont know i felt like ...there is still something. The cat staring @ Chris's picture @ the Badda Bing back room and the way T sort of ....well i will stop here.

Thanks HBO for all these years of an amazing series. It was terrific but the ending episode did not do it for me. I hope they release some sort of speical edition work around the episoeds or something. I feel there is something missing still even after: MADE IN AMERICA!

Tony's wife Carmela plans for a future she's not sure will arrive, and son AJ and daughter Meadow find that adulthood holds its own surprises. Meanwhile, at work, Tony comes to doubt the allegiances of many of those closest to him ¿ no one, not Paulie, Bobby, Silvio or even Christopher is above suspicion. The clock is ticking. HILARIOUS! 5 out of 5 stars.

Great fun! SouthPark is too fun to watch and great for college dorm-living get-togethers.

Continually pushing the envelope 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

What is offensive to one is hilarious to millions. South Park continues to steamroll political correctness in season 7. My favorite episode is "Grey Dawn", where the town takes action against elderly drivers. It was especailly timely where I am from, we had 3 incidents involving elderly drivers versus buildings in less than 2 weeks (a Cracker Barrel restaurant, a Chase bank and a Kroger grocery store). I'm a Little Bit Country, Lil' Crime Stoppers, Red Man's Greed, Raisins, and It's Christmas in Canada are also totally hilarious. I love what a little manipulative b@st@rd Cartman is, especially in Casa Bonita and Christian Rock Hard. The creators of South Park love to use song, pop culture references and sight gags. They mock everything from music sharing, gangs, reality TV, Hooters, Mormons, Indian casinos, New Foundland, stem-cell research, and the metroseual craze without apology.

Editorial Review:

All fifteen episodes from South Park's hilarious seventh season are now available for the first time in this exclusive 3-disc collector's edition. Classic moments such as Cartman's attempt on Kyle's life, Jimmy and Timmy joining the "Crips" and the boys' experimentation with metrosexuality are all featured in Season Seven. So join Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny for these and many more disturbing events. For them, it's just all part of growing up in South Park.

A Lot of Fun 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

To enjoy Star Trek or any of its derivatives, such as Star Trek Voyager, you must certainly suspend disbelief in extremely large measure, or else none of it would make any sense from a realistic or scientific standpoint. But we do so gladly, for the sake of enjoying the story. Therefore, the premise of warp travel (far, far faster than the speed of light), or artificial gravity on huge space ships ("inertial dampeners"), solid holograms and material replicators, aliens who look humanoid and speak English with no trace of accent, and a host of other obviously impossible gimmicks - all these are acceptable to us because without them, there would be no story. And we do indeed love these stories. Impossible? Absolutely. Ridiculous? Certainly. Enjoyable? You bet! If you want reality, watch a documentary. If you want Science Fiction Fun, watch Star Trek Voyager. I would gladly travel halfway across the galaxy with Captain Katherine Janeway.

Great DVD to add to your probably growing collection of SNL "Best of...". Baldwin is one of the best and funniest guest hosts they ever had - nearly every sketch is a "classic" and as funny as you remember it (think "Pete Schweady").

Editorial Review:

Whether he's playing a Scout Master seducing "Canteen Boy", a French teacher annoying his students, a Tough Guy or just talking about his famous "Schwetty Balls", Alec Baldwin is undoubtedly one of the funniest SNL hosts of all time. He's become a regular, playing in sketches throughout the years with some of the SNL greats including Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, Mike Meyers, Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell. You're sure to enjoy some of Alec's hilarious celebrity impressions, such as Tony Bennett and Charles Nelson Reilly. And if you've ever wondered what it’s like to actually host SNL, you'll want to check out the DVD extras and bonus features, such as the audio commentary from Alec Baldwin himself as he comments on various sketches, as well as never-before-seen footage from dress rehearsals that never made it to television!
