I love this DVD... It shows the actual footage of Eddie's characters on SNL... **** The only thing that I did not like about this DVD is that it is only for an hour...

Eddie At His Best ! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is Eddie Murphy before all of the family friendly movies which have seemed to define his career as of late. This is an edgy & extremeley funny Murphy. Here are some highlights: There is the Eddie as Jessie Jackson, clamoring for Jewish votes in a very not so politically correct sketch. There is Eddie as BuckWheat which, while funny, also has a serious undertone concerning the sensationalization of topics in the media. There is Eddie as Velvet Jones, who simply wants to help women get out of their "ho-hum" lives and into meaning employment. There is Eddie as James Brown, and it's simply classic. There is Eddie as Stevie Wonder (and Joe Piscapoe as Frank Sinatra) in another classic skit. I dare you not to laugh! All in all, this is Eddie as a starving artist. During this period of his career, he pushed boundaries, made you think about some serious issues, and most importantly made you laugh!

Old Friendships Renewed: STTNG 5 out of 5 stars.

I had Seasons 4-7 for a couple of years and I finally broke down and bought season 1. It was really great to see how "green" the crew was and the opening with Picard's dialog. A lot of people, like myself, have overlooked the first three seasons as a settling in period for the characters. But when I looked at season one I was glad I had purchased it. What thrilling time to see this crew pull together. It was like seeing old friends for the first time in years. The newness and freshness of the characters survives the years in this first season DVD.
I plan on getting seasons 2 & 3.

A job well done, story and dialogue are left intact 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Within this three-volume pack of DVD's are the three seasons that constitute the original Star Trek, each beautifully restored and enhanced in the visual effects department. In certain episodes, such as 'The Doomsday Machine' and 'Balance of Terror', the effects are readily apparent.

Take for example 'The Doomsday Machine', in which the battered wreck of the 'Constellation' has been given a complete face lift. Gone is the 'cigarette-burned plastic model kit' look, now replaced with a seemingly twisted hulk of metal which continuously sheds spinning shards of debris into the void. And the 'Planet Killer' itself looks truly menacing and 'miles long' now, with a pitted, blackened surface that comes as a result of eons of travel across extragalactic space.

Everything from phaser fire to planetside vistas has been given an enhanced appearance. Look closely, and you'll see a moon in the sky where none had existed in the original. Pay attention to the Gorn in 'Arena', and you'll see his eyes blink for the first time. Planets and alien spacecraft are given true physical form, as opposed to being anonymous blobs of light. These are just a few of the changes you'll encounter when watching 'Star Trek: Remastered'.

First time buyers will note that the first season is presented in both the abandoned HD-DVD format, as well as standard DVD. If you happen to own an HD-DVD player, then all the more power to you. Sit back and enjoy these sci-fi classics as they've never been presented before.

The addition of 'More Tribbles, More Troubles' (Star Trek: The Animated Series), and 'Trials and Tribble-ations' (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) is pure icing on the cake. Look for these bonus episodes in the Season Two set.

Skeptics take note, over 90% of the CGI-enhanced effects deal primarily with the 'Enterprise' within the interstellar medium. The story and dialogue are left intact. You need not worry about a 'fake moustache' being planted on Scotty where there was none before.

As an aside, I've heard the tale that when Gene Roddenberry saw the model of the Enterprise refit prior to 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture', he had made an observation to the effect that he had always envisioned the 'Enterprise' to appear that way, even back in 1966 -- and how they were limited by the special effects and budgetary constraints of the era.

I find this amusing in light of how many people slam the remastered version for being too 'modern-looking'.

Think of how many people back in 1966 watched 'Star Trek' for the first time, and thought of the effects as being 'too flashy' when compared against 'The Twilight Zone' or 'The Outer Limits'

I believe Gene would have approved of remastered 'Star Trek'

Recommended for all fans, both new and old.

"Oh my God, they killed Kenny..." 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My reviews will NOT be about the DVD. Since every episode is on here, this is what I will be talking.

Okay, so Trey Parker and Matt Stone give us the first episode "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe." This has the first normal trend of South Park which is killing Kenny in almost every episode. Although the episode itself is not entirely funny, we DO have Cartman, one of the single most hilarious characters ever created. Kudos to Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone.

From there spawns twelve more episodes, none of them really gut-busting hilarious (thus the three stars). In this season, we get South Park's Christmas icon...who is a piece of crap (literally). The brown little stick that is Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo. (This little guy is actually pretty funny.) In the same episode, we also get Mr. Mackey the school counselor...m'kay? (In my book, he ranks third as the most hilarious character in South Park.)

In the second episode (I think it's called "Volcano"), we are introduced to Randy Marsh, probably the stupidest(meaning in the show) character in all of South Park. (He ranks second in my book, right behind Cartman.) You don't get to see much of Randy in the first two seasons, so you unfortunately don't get to see how stupid he really is. Too bad.

Anyway, that pretty much sums up my thinking on this season. Interesting that usually comedies' first seasons are usually their best. THIS is an exception where some of the later seasons are much more hilarious than its start. A good start of a great show.

Bad Blu-Ray Episode Menu 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

All Smallvilles are fun and well done. The previous Complete Seasons were easy to skip to individual episodes and sections within. The latest Blu Ray interface for this set is inane ... no episode menu that I can access using PS3 DVD player. One is forced to treat Season Seven Blu-Ray like a VHS and scan linearly. Retrograde.

The generating studio's technical staff should be upgraded or re-educated to modern User Interface standards.

Unsatisfying 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Season seven of Smallville proves that they should have ended this show a year or two ago. Amidst trying to round out characters that really don't need rounding and introducing a slew of new eye candy, this season really falls flat as a satisfying season.

Probably the only two pieces of saving grace to the season were the introduction of Kara Kent, and Michael Rosenbaum's performance as Lex Luthor. Kara Kent, played by Laura Vandervoort, is Clarks long lost Kryptonian cousin who's been trapped in suspended animation for the last two decades. Not only does she add another piece of delectable eye candy to this season, but she also helps to fill out some of Clarks back story as the last son of Krypton.

Without a doubt, Lex Luthor has to be the writers favorite character. The writers seem to love exploring and growing Lex's character, and season 7 is no different. This is in stark contrast to the other character this season, like Clark.

Clark more or less is stuck in his role as a overly protective, brooding, alien. On a positive note, they explore more of Clark's Kryptonian heritage this season by bringing new characters to the table. In what could have been the best sequences of the season, we are introduced to Clark's biological mother, and Kara's megalomaniac father. But they actually manage to screw this up, by cutting the story arc to only one episode. What!!!

As for the other characters, they just don't feel like they have any direction. This season really felt like they didn't know how to make the existing characters interesting anymore so the solution was to add just a bunch of other characters into the mix. Sort of sad really. They truely broke Lana's character, and Cloe's biggest obstacle this season was finding a haircut that worked for her.

Honestly I feel like the days of truly intriguing story arcs are over. As much as I loved a ton of episodes that came after, they really should have ended the show on season 5. Just one man's opinion.

Well isn't that spe-cial! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Along with Mike Myers, Dana Carvey helped to create some of the most memorable characters on SNL during the 90's (Wayne and Garth, Hanz & Franz, Church Lady, etc.) This video shows some of the best moments from his wonderful career on that show, which (unfortunately) overshadowed his attempts to break out of his SNL shell with flops like his short-lived talk show and movies like Master Of Disguise. But despite his recent failings, we can always go back and revisit his best moments with this video.

The re-mastered episodes are incredible for the vivid colors and clarity. The "table of contents" are in the form of Translucent plastic cards that will almost certainly get lost some day and are hard to read. They also didn't number the episodes.

Nice and clean -- but PC? 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I enjoyed the remastered version of Star Trek: Season 3. The remastered scenes with realistic planetary atmospheres punched it up nicely. I even compared them with some old VHS copies of the same episodes I have. I really noticed the difference.

I did find it odd, however, that in the episode, "The Savage Curtain," during the scene in which Lincoln comments on Uhura's race, that the dialoge had actually changed! My old VHS tape has her responding to Lincoln's remark with something along the lines of "I find my skin colour more beautiful that your's or the captain's," a bit of dialogue that would probably have fit right in during the civil rights '60s during which the episode was filmed. But the remastered version has her delivering an entirely different line along the lines of "In our century, we've learned not to be hurt by mere words." It got me wondering...when did they film her saying that? Obviously, the original dialogue would have sounded too arrogant for 21st century ears, so it isn't a wonder they changed it, but it irks the episode purist in me that prefers dialogue to be left as as.

I'd also prefer episode titles to be printed on the DVD. It's much too cumbersome to constantly have to refer to the episode cards.

Kids favorite songs review 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The family liked this enough that we bought it twice. Our first copy was a hit with our son when he was 1-2 years old then it was broken by a cousin. I bought it again for our daughter who is 2 and she also loves it.

Good video 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought it because my son loved part 2. The second one is better. If you have to choose, get Kids Favorite Songs 2. This one is good though.

19 month old loves this but... 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My daughter is 19 months old and absolutely loves this DVD. I only gave it 4 stars because the sound quality is AWFUL, but she doesn't seem to mind in the least. She can't take her eyes off the screen and smiles throughout The Count's Song "This Old Bat". When the DVD is over she often says, "Again?" Of course I don't let her watch it twice in a row, but the fact that she requests it says it all-- she's never requested a DVD before. Overall, I'm happy I bought it for her. The puppets are the stars, not kids or adults.

Sesame Street is great but ... getting tired of elmo. 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Sesame Street is great, don't get me wrong -- I watched it as a child at my son watches it today. That said, I think I've had enough of Elmo. He's everywhere and it's out of control. They'll have you believe that you have to spend $[...] on every new Elmo toy in order for your child to be happy. Contrary to that belief, I happen to feel that there are much more productive and enjoyable activities you and your kids can be doing (like from a children's activities site like http://www.activitiesforbaby.com ). Fun and educational activities don't have to cost a lot of money and they don't have to be on the television and they definitely don't have to include Elmo!

pretty good! 4 out of 5 stars.

I have become totally addicted to this series! All of the seasons were excellent, and this one does not disappoint. There were a few disappointing episodes, simply because they were...well, silly ideas. Who goes off for a "team building" weekend while the fate of the world is hanging in the balance? In any case, buy it if you like Stargate. It would be a bit ridiculous to get it otherwise, right?

Great season! 5 out of 5 stars.

How do you end 10yrs of excitement? 4 out of 5 stars.

The 10th and last season of SG1 provides an exciting ending to many story lines that've existed throughout the series. So many possibilities exist beyond the series for film, but you have to know what happended through the last season to make any sense of any subsequent films. Very entertaining and worth owning for avid SG1 or sci-fi fans!

Don Davis will be missed.
