For casual fans of "The Rifleman" 3 out of 5 stars.

This three episode collection issued by Alpha Video contains the same three episodes that have been issued by various companies specializing in public domain material; in fact, if you already own any DVDs of the Chuck Connors Western "The Rifleman," be sure to compare the episodes on your discs with those contained on Alpha's so as to avoid possible duplication. The episodes include "Outlaw's Inheritance," "Day of the Hunter," and "Mail Order Groom." For casual fans of the series who would like to include a few episodes in their classic TV collection, this DVD will fit the bill nicely. But serious fans of "The Rifleman" will want to check out the various official DVD box sets issued by MPI for the best episode selection and best audio/visual quality.

Trivia Note: John Anderson guest stars in two of the episodes, "Day of the Hunter" and "Mail Order Groom." These two episodes were originally broadcast just a week apart!

'Give quiche a chance' 5 out of 5 stars.

Season three of Red Dwarf marked a major change in direction for the show introducing us to Kryten played by Robert Llewellyn and a new Holly played by Hattie Hayridge. Series three is one of my personal favourites, every episode is hilarious, in particular 'Marooned' which finds Lister and Rimmer stranded on Starbug and 'Polymorph' which plays out like a comedy version of aliens. There really is nothing bad i can say about this wonderful series (appart from Seasons 7 & 8 of course) and the DVD's are excelent. The extras on offer here include an Original Documentary 'All Change' which features cast and crew interviews. There are also Deleted Scenes, Raw FX Footage, Trailers and of course the Smeg-Ups. Overall this is another excelent Red Dwarf 2 disc set. Buy it now and if you don't then your a Smeg-Head.

Editorial Review:

Boldly going where no one in their right mind would ever go, this hilarious, cult Sci Fi spoof takes you on a joyride three million years into the future. Those ubiquitous anti-heroes of space travel - Lister, Rimmer, Cat and Kryten - are following up their spectacularly successful series I & II DVD's. In Red Dwarf Series III, the inept crew stumble further into deep space facing an emotion-sucking polymorph, a psychotic mechanoid and a version of Earth where time runs backwards.

RED DWARF - WAY COOL, OF COURSE 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

One of the tighter seasons - cast really revelling in their individual roles, and possibly the second funniest (after Season 5).

Essential for Fans 5 out of 5 stars.

I imagine if you are browsing for this product, you already have a pretty good idea what Red Dwarf is all about, and probably have already seen the episodes. What I love is the two-hour documentary about the process that went into creating the season (each of the DVDs have this content) ... what was going on at the BBC, what the producers, director and writers struggled with in terms of politics, budget and overall direction of the series. Also, since I'm in the US and don't watch any other BBC shows, its interesting to learn about some of the guest actors and how they were adored by the cast prior to their appearance on the show. As a true fan this is the behind the scenes content that I crave. Sigh. How I wish they were still making new Red Dwarf episodes!

This show is a classic, and the Season 1 DVD was great. The second season however has not been given as much care. The cheaper packaging and volume 1 only release makes me think the first did not sell very well and Paramount was not willing to throw more money at the franchise if it did not show continuing interest. So if you are a western fan or Clint Eastwood fan, go out and buy this to show the studio that there is a market and they will continue to release the future installments of Clint and the Gang.

paramount gets greedy 5 out of 5 stars.

Rawhide is one of the greatest tv shows of all time. Paramount has decided to split the seasons, which of course gets Paramount more money. I'll buy volume 2 when it comes out in december, which speaks of the quality of the show. However this is a disturbing trend which also happened to the second season of The Big Valley from Fox

Roseanne stands the test of time. 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Roseanne was a popular sitcom from the late eighties and its cast has been given numerous awards for their performances. The series is about a lower class family, living in Lanford, Illinois, struggling through that odd thing we call life. The show has an intrinsic cast and they are a hard bunch not to like. Roseanne looks at some of the most common daily situations from the home and the work place. In most cases these situations turn out to be funny. However unlike some sitcoms that rely on slapstick comedy to make ordinary situations a riot, Roseanne uses witty dialogue to get laughs.

Editorial Review:

In 1988, it exploded onto TV full of unprecedented honesty, attitude and flat-out hilarity. No other series before or since has had its worldwide impact. With this deluxe box set- meet the working-class Conners of Lanford, Illinois wife/mother/domestic goddess Roseanne (Emmy® winner Roseanne Barr), husband Dan (seven-time Emmy® nominee John Goodman), her sister Jackie (three-time Emmy® winner Laurie Metcalf), and kids Becky (Lecy Goranson and Sarah Chalke), Darlene (two-time Emmy® nominee Sara Gilbert) and D.J. (Michael Fishman) as they lived their lives like no other family in television history and launched the legendary sitcom that changed our culture forever.

Editorial Review:

Series 6 is possibly the most eagerly awaited of the Red Dwarf DVD sets, due to its acclaimed third episode, "Gunmen of the Apocalypse," which earned the program an International Emmy Award in 1994. However, the five other episodes in the series have their own share of absurd laughs, and the two-disc set features enough supplemental features to keep even the most demanding RD fan happy. The crux of series 6 is that the Red Dwarf has been stolen (no thanks to Lister, who can't remember where he left it), and the crew must recover it; their pursuit brings them in contact with brain-consuming aliens ("Psirens," with guest star Jenny Agutter), a polymorph that turns Rimmer and Cat into their alternate identities from Series V ("Emohawk--Polymorph II"), the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse tricked out as gunslingers ("Gunmen of the Apocalypse"), an army of Rimmer clones ("Rimmerworld"), and finally, their own future selves, who turn out to be particularly awful (worse than the present-day ones, that is), and cause a cliffhanger ending that just might spell the end for the Red Dwarf crew.... In short, series 6 more than earns its popular status among Red Dwarf's fanbase, thanks to its sharp writing (sadly, it would be the last series to feature scripts by co-creator Rob Grant) and energetic performances. And the double-disc set matches the quality of the programs with some terrific extras, including commentaries by the RD crew and fans (the latter on "Gunmen of the Apocalypse" only), and featurettes on composer Howard Goodall and series director Andy de Emmony; these are rounded out by the usual collections of "smeg-ups" (bloopers), deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage, and another episode of the "Dave Hollins, Space Cadet" radio sketch that inspired the show. And again, the most patient of viewers will find Easter eggs on the menus (happy hunting). --Paul Gaita

This is the one to buy for your friend! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Never before has sci-fi and comedy worked out for the mass audiences. And since "Red Dwarf", it hasn't happened. The characters diverse in personality, the sci-fi concepts rich, the humor is riotously successful on many levels. What's not to like?

The DVD quality is in top form (with, as usual, a surfeit of bonus material that alone justifies the <$30 pricetag), as alone does the restoration effort (Red Dwarfs 5 and 6 NEVER looked so good) so I will concentrate on the episodes themselves:

1. Holoship. Rimmer, a hologram, sees potential for having a life at last on board. The problem is, he has to beat his opponent. Who happens to be, unbeknownst to him, the hologram he falls in love with. Great series opener in terms of irony but the best is yet to come...

2. The Inquisitor. A rogue simulant (half man, half machine), wanders Time. Upon the individuals it meets, it assesses them. If they fail the assessment, they are removed from history and replaced with someone else. The story explains it with much more panache. It seems weird as to who passes and who fails the test, but not only does it appeal with its intellectual supremacy, but it remains true to its roots as being a comedy and makes this one a real winner for everybody. GREAT stuff.

3. Terrorform. Kryten and Rimmer crashed Starbug onto a "Psi-Moon". Kryten escaped with a helping hand, but Rimmer becomes a prisoner of a world that had been created out of his subconscious state! This one, like The Inquisitor, is riotously funny and appeals to all levels. Best of all, one can feel sorry for Rimmer.

4. Quarantine. Another winner, the Dwarf crew (sans Rimmer) happen upon the results of unique experiments. Unfortunately, one of them was a hologramatic virus that infects Rimmer when he radios the crew. Upon the crew's return, Rimmer seems a changed - and eminently insane - hologram. There are some unusual but wonderful concepts here, and Rimmer gone nuts is hilarious. Another episode in top form.

5. Demons and Angels. Food supplies are running low, so Kryten perfects a triplicator. Well, not quite. The device takes one object and extracts it into its pure good and pure rotten components. Lister tries putting the machine in reverse and subsequently destroys Red Dwarf. Well, not quite. Two new Dwarf ships are created: One good and one evil. The problem is, to rebuild the triplicator to merge the separated ship, they have to go to both ships... Now while the "goodie" side is a bit goodie, the REAL fun begins on the evils' ship. Indeed, I'll never look at Rimmer in quite the same way again! Devilishly funny, this one also works well.

6. Back to Reality. Fleeing from a 'Despair Squid', the Squid apparently destroys the Starbug probing the planet. The foursome wake up from what seems to be a game they've played for 4 years, called "Red Dwarf". This is a GREAT season finale (though the best one ever is a tie between "The Last Day" and "Out of Time".) I won't spoil the outcome, but I will say that Dwayne Dibbley is introduced. A character who gets reused later on, for no reason other than to fill out a horrible episode's time allotment. (A great parody character meant for one episode really isn't meant to be re-used...)

as usual, the extras and disc quality are all top-notch.

Apart from season 2 and the show's opener episode "The End", season 5 is definitely one to hook potential fans in. It's got EVERYTHING and more.

Great Show That Just Gets Better 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I sort of bought this series on a whim, like I do with many things. I can say without a doubt this is amongst the best dramas I've ever seen. The characters are deep and real (many times in a real ugly way) and how I feel about most of the characters is complicated. I find myself going back and forth between rooting Tommy (Dennis Leary) on and dreading his next move. His relationship with his dead cousin is my favorite character psychosis since Tyler Durden in Fight Club. That's not to say the other characters aren't equally as interesting, and I find myself drawn in by even Probie Mike's little side stories, which done incorrectly could have been a real show hinderance. My only real complaint about the show is that no one can stay happy for more than a couple episodes before they do something screwed up or something screwed up happens to them, but that's been the case with every great show I've ever seen. Definitely worth checking out.

Awesome! 5 out of 5 stars.

Awesome series! Great value. I enjoy the brutal honesty of Denis Leary and encourage others to sit-back in awe of what firefighters have to deal with daily.

Action, Nothing But Action 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

It is hard to remember that action TV show can be 30 minutes. The sitcom seems to dominated the form today, but the Rat Patrol reminds me that you can have a complete action-oriented story delivered in a nice bit size chunk. I remember this show from my childhood and picked it up on a lark. I am not disappointed. The producers failed to include any extra (nothing, not even promo clips are included--clear indication who ever green lighted the DVD release was hoping to trigger impulse buying), but they clean up the episodes and it look beautiful. If you like action shows, The Rat Patrol is worth buying.
