Editorial Review:

The only flaw with the release of Quantum Leap's original pilot (a.k.a. "Genesis") is that the end leaves you wanting another episode... at least. (The intelligent, funny, and often touching series aired five seasons between 1989 and 1993, and was later syndicated on the Sci-Fi Channel.) The pilot is a reminder of how entertaining television can be when the writing is smart and the right actors possess the charisma to carry a show from week to week. As Sam Beckett (get it?), a brilliant scientist who's caught in a time machine nightmare--he spent five seasons bouncing from body to body, righting many of history's mistakes and trying to get, er, back to the future--Scott Bakula blends just the right mixture of confusion, frustration, and heroic self-parody. Dean Stockwell, as Al, Sam's oversexed colleague who now appears as a hologram image and Sam's guiding spirit, is always fun to watch, especially when he lands such a juicy role as this. In this pilot, Sam first steps into the time machine in 1995 and suddenly awakes in 1956 as Tom Stratton, a married Air Force test pilot who's getting ready to break the Mach 3 barrier. As Sam tries to piece his memory back together, Al informs him that Tom originally perished during the experiment, and that to get back, he must make sure he breaks the barrier safely. The only catch is that Sam has never flown a plane before. Quantum Leap's climax is both surprising and moving--a testament, perhaps, to how the series managed to survive for so long without becoming stale. For those who've never seen the show, this is a perfect introduction. --Dave McCoy

FAKE CHINESE BOOTLEG RIP OFF 1 out of 5 stars.
14 of 16 people found this review helpful.

enough said, this was never released on the asian market, the tacky cardboard box it comes in is a big enough clue, they sell these for $ 50 on ebay and 90% of the discs don't even play due to being recorded on cheap chinese 10 cent media with many errors.i'm surprised amazon allow pirated media to be sold on its website

CHEAPLY MADE RIPOFF 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this item a few months ago off of Ebay and have had many problems with discs not playing in a computer or a regular dvd player. The picture quality is not that great on some discs; some skip in some sections and the bonus materials are not available either. I've only just started on Season 3 and the first disc won't even play. I love this show but I don't recommend anyone buying this CHEAP set. The quality is not good at all. If you really like the show I'd invest and spend more on buying the newly released set issued last month. These sets in pink boxes should all be destroyed. This set is a total ripoff.

Attention Fans: The Creative Forces Have Left The Building! 1 out of 5 stars.

I am a straight, conservative (formerly Republican) white female and I LOVED this series!

Season one was so on the edge, unpredictable and shocking I was instantly hooked. "QAF" became my favorite show, no family member was to talk to me when it was on. It was a soap whose direction you could not guess. The first 2 seasons left us with cliff hangers that we had to wait nearly a year to find out what happened. The show had interesting characters in completely crazy situations.

Then what happened? By the last half of season 4, the whole show had been gutted, all characters completely neutered. Brian, an absolutely appallingly BAD person and oh, so interesting, had been gelded and de-boned by Season 5. There was NEVER any chemistry between he and Justin (even after sex scene ad nauseum between the two) and Season 5 tried to push the supposed obsessive love between them down our throats. To the point that Brian was going to live the rest of his life as a boring, monogomous old married dude. Puh-leeze!

Michael, Ben, Melanie and her girlfriend BORED us to tears as they fought over custody of Michael's daughter. Why didn't these ladies go to a sperm bank so that custody would never be an issue? Duh!

Michael and Brian, will they or won't they? These two childhood friends and almost lovers never got it on. Michael became a boring old married shoe with boring Ben who completely domesticated Michael. And character Hunter, just obNOXious!!! ZZzzzzzzzzz......!

Emmett, who was my favorite character, a low-born nobody who was abandoned by his father for being gay, had a great running story line of surprisingly being attractive to and seduced by the rich and famous. Who have thunk anyone like that would want him? Great story line. By season 5, Em is just a fawning, boring Queen.

Ted, who knew better, but got himself into SO much trouble, was an exceedingly interesting and deep character. He should have lived a boring, regular life, but even though he tried not to, got himself into bad situations.I used to just bleed for him hoping everything would work out. By Season 5, he is Brian's employee and boring drone.

The acting by these unknowns was pretty much excellent (except Hal Sparks who never improved as the weakest of all the actors..even though I loved him on Talk Soup.) I hope to see all of them in other TV shows/movies. I'm sorry the producers and writers dropped interest in QAF in Season 4 (WAY too much political preaching!Turns off 50% of your audience!) and abandoned this golden (but very naughty) child of a TV show.
P.S. I am conservative and believe in marriage between 2 PEOPLE. Period.
