Fun and Happy 5 out of 5 stars.

I grew up watching The Partridge Family. This DVD of the first season brought back some great memories. It was a different time for television back then and it showed....which I truly appreciate. It was a fun and happy time. This show with it's characters and songs brought a freshness and escape which is still needed today. I've watched it with friends and even teenagers today who have embraced it and finish the episodes singing along with The Partridge Family.

Editorial Review:

It's TV's favorite family of rock ' 'rollers, who hit the road in their groovy bus and turn the world on to the catchy pop songs such as "I Think I Love You," "I Woke Up In Love This Morning," and "Somebody Wants to Love You." The Partridge Family's six members feature mom Shirley (Shirley Jones) and her five kids: Keith (David Cassidy, who is also Jones' real-life stepson), Laurie (Susan Dey), Danny (Danny Bonaduce), Tracy (Suzanne Crough), and Chris (Jeremy Gelbwaks). And who can forget the Partridge's frequently exasperated manager, Reuben Kincaid (Dave Madden), who would become an important member of their family whether he liked it or not? The show debuted in September of 1970 and made a teen idol of David Cassidy, selling millions of records along the way. They may have parked that bus a long time ago but The Partridge Family is still making fans happy.

I was a big fan of this T.V. series in the 80's. I still love it, but my young son has turned into a really big Police squad fan.

Naked Gun: The TV Show 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This short-lived series is a little bit of a mixed bag, varying from hilarious to strained, but that's the nature of this kind of mad-cap, "throw all your jokes at the wall and see what sticks" style. However there are enough jokes both overt and subtle that pay off to make this a worth-while watch. If you loved the Naked Gun movies, many of the jokes from those movies were taken from this series, so you will see a lot of "reused" gags, despite the fact that they were used here first. But it's easy enough to forgive the creators that kind of self-plagiarism.

snappy lines 5 out of 5 stars.

The humor is great, though a little repetitive. The lines are quick, clever and funny.

Proof that sometimes failure is but a version of wild success. 5 out of 5 stars.

I remember watching this show during its short run on television. Loved it then.

Those who couldn't stand the show were too busy looking for the familiar. You needed to keep your eyes open and your expectations in check. The fact that the show was willing to skewer EVERYTHING (from the bad driving of the stars to the repeated use of jokes to the end-shot poses which seemed to fall into various states of disorder by the end of the jingo) made this a memorable show even as it was unceremoniously (??) canceled halfway through the season.

If you can handle unexpected stupidity, buy the CD. You will enjoy it. Repeatedly.

Editorial Review:

The satirical comedy "Police Squad" pits an ace detective and his captain (Leslie Nielsen & Alan North) against the criminal elements that befoul a big city. From the creators of "Airplane!".

Helen Mirren Rocks 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Storytelling at it's finest. Helen Mirren's performance in Prime Suspect was the springboard for Kyra Sedgewick's "Closer" and Holly Hunter's "Saving Grace". The first lady of this genre.

Editorial Review:

Helen Mirren (Teaching Mrs. Tingle/Gosford Park) introduces the character of Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison in the first of the series PRIME SUSPECT, which aired on PBS in January 1992. There will be five series in all, with a sixth currently set to air in the summer of 2004. When a young woman is found brutally murdered and the DCI in charge is unable to take up the case, it is passed to Jane Tennison, the first female DCI to handle such responsibility. Between a slippery suspect and resistance from her team of detectives, Tennison has her hands full. But she's got the strength to take them all on.

The Original Courtroom Drama 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

These TV films from the late 1950s are mostly the simplified and condensed versions of the original novels by Erle Stanley Gardner. The books are more complete and informative but the films still tell stories about life that is not experienced by most people. The books can tell you why certain things are done, the films only show you what happened. The books tell you about "ropers", rough or smooth shadows, and how to evade surveillance and avoid leaving a back trail. Some may question the legality and ethics of Perry Mason's tactics but most stories were written before the modern legal rules of the 1960s. The backgrounds tell about life in Los Angeles. It is difficult to film a scene at night but easy to describe it in a book.

Some of the stories and names were changed for TV [and added politics!]. The theme music is typical for the late 1950s. Note the style of clothing and culture; ladies wore white gloves. People seldom lock their doors. The prices date these films (35 cents for hamburger with fries). One advantage is seeing the many automobiles from the 1950s (no Studebakers or Hudsons). How many can you identify? Note the slimness of people then, and the casual handling of pistols. Smoking was very common [a tobacco sponsor]. Watch how the actors express their emotions by their facial expressions. Don't blink or sneeze! The camera sharpness and quality is excellent on these films.. There is nothing like these entertaining and dramatic stories on today's broadcast TV. When was the last time you saw a trial lawyer as a hero? These stories often use the misinterpretation of circumstantial evidence to provide dramatic effects. The courtroom scenes are usually the Preliminary Hearings that are used in states west of the Mississippi [this saved the cost of extra actors]. Some of the stories were greatly modified from the novels.

This lists the titles of the 20 episodes with the date of publication of the novel. Note how many years worth of novels were used in the first TV season. All titles begin with "The Case of the ".

Lonely Heiress (1948); Green-Eyed Sister (1953); Fugitive Nurse (1954); One-Eyed Witness (1951).
Deadly Double *; Empty Tin (1941); Half-Wakened Wife (1945); Desperate Daughter *.
Daring Decoy (1957); Hesitant Hostess (1953); Screaming Woman (1957); Fiery Fingers (1951).
Substitute Face (1938); Long-Legged Models (1958); Gilded Lily (1956); Lazy Lover (1947).
Prodigal Parent *; Black-Eyed Blonde (1944); Terrified Typist (1956); Rolling Bones (1939).

* These were not from a Gardner novel.

Great show, horrible release. 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

When Paramount released the first season of Perry Mason in two parts, I picked it up and enjoyed the heck out of it. I may not be the consumer they were looking for as a nigh-30 year-old, but thankfully I love noir and Perry did a great job on atmospherics. It's aged extremely well. I wasn't happy about them splitting it in two, but I understood. After all, a modern series only has 22 episodes per year and the first season offered nearly that per volume.
The second season is a different story, however. With fewer episodes in this season, it's unacceptable for Paramount to divide the show and still charge the same amount. The same thing has been done with Gunsmoke, but that's even worse because the early episodes were only half an hour long. I understand that "classic TV" is a bit more niche than the latest huge blockbuster of a series and it won't sell as well. (In many instances, I'm thrilled just to see some of the '50s classics that don't even show up on TV Land anymore.) It's just not worth the high cost for many of these series. I plan to pick up the rest of the Perry Mason releases, but without a large sale, it won't be soon and will probably be used.

You have to watch it but it's really not as good as the show 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

If you are a fan of the Pretender show you have to watch the movie. I would have to say overall the movies are really not that good. First I did not like Jarod's new hairdo, petty I know but I definitely liked his short hair better. Second the TV series was canceled do you think they could reunited him and his mother or whole family for that matter or even solve some of the riddles that were never answered? I feel that was very poorly done that they (power on high) had an opportunity to finish the series and all they did was leave more questions and more unanswered riddles and came up with a hugely fantastical story line. I really didn't appreciate that they try to be 'artistic' instead of telling a great story. Overall I have to say I was disappointed with the movies.

Editorial Review:

Disc 1 Side A: PRETENDER 2001 (Full Screen) Picking up where the television series left off, Jarod reunites with two old friends and unleashes some powerful Centre revelations. This film opens with a sequence that will allow it to be enjoyed by individuals who have not yet seen the TV series.

Disc 1 Side B: PRETENDER: ISLAND OF THE HAUNTED (Widescreen) Through a series of bizarre circumstances, Jarod and Miss Parker find themselves trapped together on a strange island in a life and death situation, out of which come some of the most important revelations about their pasts.

More seasons!!!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Please release seasons three and four! This show was wonderfully silly the whole way through, but the music got better and better. Susan Dey was the hottest girl ever on any television show. It would also be great if someone put out the two records by the Hardy Boys (from the cartoon) on CD.

i'm not happy 5 out of 5 stars.

I loved the Partridge Family as a kid and now my children love the show as well. We have seasons 1 and 2 and we want more. The stories are wholesome and entertaining with great music. Please release seasons 3 and 4. We are waiting and I'm sure we aren't the only ones.

Editorial Review:

Television's grooviest family hits the road again in Season 2. This second year brings more of Danny's schemes, Keith's girl troubles, and rock 'n' roll. Plus, a dancing bear takes center stage, Laurie dates a biker, two Partridges run away and harried manager Reuben gets his fair share of headaches. In this family the adventures never stop, but with mom Shirley at the wheel, they always have plenty to sing about.

I am so glad this series was put on DVD. It gives young people an opportunity to see how court room dramas should be played out. This I feel was the start of all modern court room dramas.

We have enjoyed this edition of Perry Mason. He is a super lawyer. The total program is much superior to today's low grade type of production.
I do have ONE complaint......We received TWO discs of Season 2,disc 1 and no disc 2.
Otherwise,we greatly enjoyed this DVD. Thanks

Some old television shows are fun to watch because they are like time machines. The clothes and dialogue show how much our culture has changed from decade to decade.

Perry Mason is different. These stories are as fresh, original and engrossing now as they were when they were made. Some reviewers are upset because they are being released a half a season at a time, making them more expensive per episode than other old shows, but I am just grateful to have the opportunity to own them.

If you are interested in reading the original stories in which this character appeared, try this book.

Editorial Review:

Perry Mason is an attorney who specializes in defending seemingly indefensible cases. With the aid of his secretary Della Street and investigator Paul Drake, he often finds that by digging deeply into the facts, startling facts can be revealed. Often relying on his outstanding courtroom skills, he often tricks or traps people into unwittingly admitting their guilt.

I was so pleased! when I saw that the frist two seasons of Perfect Strangers came out on video. I remember the show when it originally came out and I have hoped for at least a few years that it would come out on DVD. When I saw it did! T had to order it right away. I am not diasappoint one bit. I hope adition seasons will some come out. The humor is innocent, and fun. We all make mistakes in life and the main characters communication and in a laughable way learns from their mistakes. A great to watch this at the end of a stressful day versus soemthing that may even increase your stress. Get it! and Enjoy!
