Outstanding Collection - Even withouth Phil Hartman 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

While I was worried that this final season would suffer due to the unfortunate lack of Phil Hartman, I can honestly say I have enjoyed these episodes. This series has always been good for a laugh and the 5th season is no exception. I would highly recommend this collection for any News Radio fan!

Worth the purchase? 5 out of 5 stars.

Yes, of course! Especially for those fans of the show. Yeah, Phil Hartman made the show his own, but without him, the others were left to shine. And they came through. It was a shame that no one really accepted Jon Lovitz after Phils demise, but the one season he was a part of, he did add his little touches. I thought NewsRadio was one of the funniest shows all the way through. No "jumping the shark" although I felt they jumped a guppy with the space episode(season 3) and the Titanic episode(season 4). Those were not that most entertaining, but they got through it ok. Purchase season 5 and dont worry about Phil not being a part of this, the season was fine.

Editorial Review:

Tune in for another sidesplitting look behind the scenes at radio station WNYX. In the final season of the series, on-air newsman Max Louis joins the staff after the unexpected death of beloved anchor Bill McNeal. Regulars Dave Foley, Stephen Root, Andy Dick, Maura Tierney, Vicki Lewis and Joe Rogan welcome Jon Lovitz to the wackiest news team in New York and deliver all the on-the-air/off-the-wall hilarity you've come to expect. Includes every episode from the hysterical fifth and final season, featuring very special guest appearances by Patrick Warburton, Adam West and Tiffani-Amber Thiessen.

Top Ten Funniest Shows Ever! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This show was so clever! It was a shame that between the idiots at NBC moving the time slot 20 times and Phil Hartman's death, it only ran 5 seasons. This show was "The Office" before the Office. Tremendous writing, and clever plots made it a classic. I own seasons 1-3 and just ordered 4 because it is still funny every time I watch it!

The best 5 out of 5 stars.

Hilarious, always! not one bad episode. This is probably the funniest show that ever hit television. The writing is phenomenal, and the characters are the best!!! RIP Bill McNeil. :**)

Excellent and I love this show! 5 out of 5 stars.

Great great great!!!!

Can't get enough! 5 out of 5 stars.

I have the entire collection, and I can't stop watching them. I miss News Radio so much. In my opinion, it was, and is, in reruns, STILL the funniest show on TV. Lord knows we all wish selfishly that Phil Hartman was still with us, so the show could have gone on.

Non stop laughter at it's best! Thanx for the laughs guys...

Great dvd though it is sad that they have parted ways... 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought the dvd to see exactly what the "chicken / tuna" thing was about. I thought the dvd was quite entertaining. I did find myself touched in the scene where Nick is tearing up whilst watching his bride come towards him, but aside from that they seemed to bicker and complain an awful lot. Infact in one argument it was almost embarassing to watch (she comes home and he re-decorated the house) he seems a smidge cruel to her. She poor thing seems so stupid she does not know how to defend herself. I really like how Nick seemed down to earth. I found him really enchanting when he himself looked back at his wife when she made the tuna remark as if to say "Are you for real?!" I also like how he was so down to Earth and did a lot of do it yourself stuff just to save some money. Ie. Moving furniture, staying at a friends house instead of a hotel, killing the bees, etc... I wish him much happiness in his future because he showed his humble side. Instead Jessica always was primping and prepping herself. So much so she did not even make dinner "that" night she promised to. All in all I came away liking them both somewhat...Nick quite a bit more. It was a good entertaining purchase.

Delightfully odd first season in an equally odd DVD package 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

The early 1990s saw a major public interest in the bizarrity of smalltown shows, clearly evidenced in three shows: TWIN PEAKS, PICKET FENCES, and NORTHERN EXPOSURE. Each was very different and completely unlike anything on television before or after. NORTHERN EXPOSURE was the lightest and most wacky of the bunch. The series revolved around Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), a young New Yorker fresh out of medical school. His tuition was paid by the state of Alaska, on the condition that Dr. Fleischman be stationed in Alaska after his graduation. Expecting to be positioned in Anchorage, Fleischman happily accepts. But to his immense dismay, he finds himself thrown into the middle of nowhere, also known as Cicely, Alaska, a town with a population of 215. At first Fleischman wants nothing more than to escape from the bizarre town and its even more bizarre inhabitants, but as time goes on he comes to appreciate the town and the individuals living there. Those individuals include cocky pilot Maggie O'Connell (Janine Turner), burly ex-NASA pilot and "owner" of the town Maurice J. Minnifield (Barry Corbin), amiable young aspiring filmmaker Ed (Darren E. Burrows), and peaceful early-morning radio DJ Chris Stevens (John Corbett).

NORTHERN EXPOSURE is a show like no other. The first season contains a mere 8 episodes, but is as charming as any series in history. The simplicity of life in Cicely, the beauty of the scenery, the companionship between the town's inhabitants, fills one with love and warmth, and was no doubt a major factor in what made the show so attractive to viewers when it debuted in 1990. The acting is wonderful all-around, the writing is witty and often absurd, and though the first season has not one dramatic scene, it's profoundly moving and irresistably enjoyable. For TWIN PEAKS fans like myself, I warn that NORTHERN EXPOSURE has little in common with that show, although the fifth episode of this season contains a very silly and funny spoof of it. Still I would highly recommend this show for anyone willing to try a new flavor of television.

As for the DVDs, the NORTHERN EXPOSURE sets are probably the most infamous TV DVDs ever released. On subsequent seasons, almost all music contained in the show was replaced with generic tunes (save for the theme). I personally find this despicable, but Universal has no intention of re-releasing the seasons with the original music at the moment. Season one, however, contains all the original music. The picture and sound quality are excellent, and the menus are very nice. It can be a little confusing to watch the series in order, however, as the first side of disc 1 actually contains the second batch of episodes, and the episodes are not numbered, nor is there any booklet for easy navigation through the season. I recommend tv.com for a chronological episode listing. Lastly, the packaging. Consumers have complained about the parka packaging used for the first two seasons, but I myself believe it is the most charming and wonderful TV-DVD packaging ever. I absolutely adore it, and I'm very sad that Universal did not continue doing this for the rest of the series. Nevertheless, this is a fine set, and it's better to have a lightly toyed-with release of the series than none whatsoever.

"I love you too, Mrs Grubman" 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

If only we could all live Christian Troys life for a little while. It always seems especially appealing given the turbulent and overly emotional rumblings of the McNamara's marriage. The fourth season could be dubbed the guest stars' season. Everyone from Jacqueline Bissett to Catherine Denueve appears in the fourth season of the show. With that said, this still may be the lightest and least intriguing installment of all four season. Somehow, somewhere Nip/Tuck lost its luster. While it would be nice to live like Dr. Troy for about ten years, sooner or later, one finds new hobbies. I'm not saying don't buy the fourth season, because it was fun, but the show has lost its cutting edge appeal; thus, my conservative rating.

Looked forward to this because of the reviews here. But to us it was very disappointing. Not very funny. The station owner says nothing that is laughable, and hardly any other characters do.

Great season... 4 out of 5 stars.

I'm not sure what other viewers were looking for from this season but I remember this being one of their BEST. Mr. James in the radio box. Mr. James running for President.. to meet women. The whole breakdown of pretty vs cute vs sexy. I really enjoyed watching it when it was on TV. These were the eps that stood out MOST in my mind.

I'm well on my way to getting ALL the seasons on DVD. Every month i buy one more. Se 4 here I come. :)

Feel the tension... in the air! 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I bought the previous seasons and I loved them. The episodes were romantic and funny. The final season, not so much. You can actually feel the tension in the air with the two ex-love birds. Its not as funny this time around. You could see them getting on each others nerves. Its sad that they arent together anymore... I am still happy I bought the item. Atleast with this series, you get to see the good and the...bad:(

Bittersweet Memories 4 out of 5 stars.

Whether you admit it or not, we fell in love with Nick and Jessica. If you watched every episode as it aired or missed a few, you'll love this DVD.

Very disappointing "final" season 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Throughout this entire season, all Nick and Jessica did was argue. He was a jerk to her about the littlest things and she nagged him about the things that she never complained about before. Watching this season only made it more apparent that their marriage was in trouble. I think about two months after I watched it, Jessica asked for a divorce. This season must have been just thrown together to create an "end" to the series. It didn't just end the series, but their marriage as well. What a waste!

Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

This order was perfect. However, my previous order of 6 seasons of Judging Amy was terrible. Some discs are out of order (like disc 5 showed things that happened after disc 6) Some shows are duplicated.
The worst part is that it freezes up in the middle of a program and nothing else can be seen on that disc. Plus you have TNT commercials during the programs, not separate but over the scene. I would suggest that you discontinue selling for the company that made this.

NCIS - Seasons 1-3. 5 out of 5 stars.

I love the NCIS series. I had not seen the earlier seasons before. Watching them just reinforced my feelings about the series. The characters are intelligent and funny, as well. The plots are believable. The acting is excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed them.

Ncis 5 out of 5 stars.

I really enjoy this show. The end up this season was disapointing. I like Mark Harmon.

Spectacular show! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

My family and friends love this show because it takes the overplayed crime drama, adds in some humor, and places it in a military context (though, sadly, they chose to deemphasize the military side of it, opting to rarely base episodes on naval sites like ships after the first season). The characters are well-developed, and I enjoy watching them over and over again even though I already know whodunnit since the dialogue and writing is so marvelous!

When buying this from Amazon, compare the prices between the different NCIS products. Some days it's cheaper to buy them as one set, sometimes it's cheaper to buy a partial set and a season or two individually (which is what I found when I ordered this; it was cheaper to buy 1-3 as a set and then 4 on its own than it would have been to buy all the seasons individually or to buy the 1-4 set), and sometimes it's cheaper to just buy them all as individual seasons ... so compare before you order!

Editorial Review:

Nero Wolfe brought Rex Stout's eccentric private investigator and his dapper legman, Archie Goodwin, into a jaunty and irreverent detective series for cable channel A&E in the spring of 2001 (following the broadcast of a pilot episode in 2000). The Complete First Season includes all the pleasures and surprises of the show's first mysteries, above all the tempestuous, symbiotic, and highly entertaining relationship between Wolfe (Maury Chaykin), a corpulent recluse who grows orchids and analyzes clues from a distance, and the acerbic knight-errant, Goodwin (Timothy Hutton, also an executive producer on the series), Wolfe's underpaid eyes and ears on the world. Set (more or less) in the late 1940s/early 1950s, Nero Wolfe finds these antithetic partners cracking tough cases and refusing to bow to authority, power, or wealth.

The set begins with the complex, two-part "The Doorbell Rang" (directed by Hutton). A demanding heiress (Debra Monk) offers an enormous retainer to Wolfe, a high-living epicurean always in need of money, to prove her dubious claim that the FBI is harassing her. Once Wolfe takes the job, a murder is committed, and Archie hits the streets in search of answers. Hutton also directs the two-part "Champagne for One" with a snap and verve reminiscent of old Howard Hawks comedies, but it is on "Prisoner's Base" that all of the series' best elements are firing at once: Chaykin's performance as a prideful, narcissistic boy-man genius, Hutton's sleek heroics, and a tone largely more optimistic than the grave determinism of much detective fiction. The excellent "Eeny Meeny Murder Moe" finds the thin-skinned Wolfe apoplectic when a client is murdered in the sleuth's own brownstone, and worlds tumble when Archie discovers Wolfe might have a long-lost adopted daughter in "Over My Dead Body." All in all, Nero Wolfe refreshes the television detective genre. --Tom Keogh
