I REALLY LIKE THIS FIRST ADDITION... VERY GOOD.. BUT, I AM A REAL MTM FAN...

Nostalgic! 4 out of 5 stars.

I'm an unsual 26 year old. I LOVE the Mary Tyler Moore show. I watched a lot of Nick-at-Nite growing up and the Dick Van Dyke show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and I Love Lucy were staples in my house. When I saw MTM on sale for $20 one day, I had to have it. Because it's actually been many years since I've watched it, I thought I might not like it as much. But, I really did. The characters can still make me laugh. Though the plot lines aren't as stirring as some on TV today, there is something so comforting about the simplicity of the show.

There are also great features on the DVD - interviews with many members of the cast, talking about the creation of the show and why it was so popular.

If you're a MTM fan, it's well worth it.

Editorial Review:

Welcome back to WJM-TV Minneapolis! Over its seven year run, The Mary Tyler Moore Show won twenty-nine Emmy Awards. Now get ready to turn back the dial to 1970 and rejoin the gang from WJM - the lowest-rated (but most hilarious) evening news show in Minneapolis. Relive all the laughter with Mary, Lou, Murray, Ted, Rhoda and Phyllis as the first season of this classic TV show arrives on DVD.

at last! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

At last, season 5 is coming.
Thankfully, CBS DVD are getting Melrose Place back on dvd after abandoning it last year in the us, and in 2007 in europe. And not just for region 1 (us and canada), season 3 finally will arrive in europe on feb 9th too! So the future for melrose on dvd is looking up indeed!

THE DVDS:
On feb 10 , we will get part one of the season on a 4 disc set (episodes 1-19 reportedly, (tvshowsondvd.com), but 17 will be exactly half the season. time will tell.

Paramount have now decided to go the Dynasty route for Melrose Place ...i.e split each season into volumes 1 and 2, absolutely no good reason for doing so other than money. it isn't ideal to have seasons split but i see amazon are today offering it for $26.99, and that is half what i paid for seasons 3 and 4 on amazon on their release date so maybe volumes 1 and 2 of this season will work out similar to what we paid for complete seasons in the past (before sales, reductions). ultimately, fans have to accept that we are a niche market- it's the old supply and demand scenario--not enough people are interested in buying this series to make it profitable, so we have to be prepared to pay some premium to make it viable to release the show any more... and split seasons is this premium.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to be really annoyed by this ...it's not going to be ideal but I for one am simply glad that season five (the last truly enjoyable season) is making its way to dvd at ALL.

We have a choice: accept what we are getting and be grateful for small mercies and just accept that Paramount could easily do without the hassle and effort of releasing a series that has to date not been very profitable. Paramount can and will make more money, easily and quickly with other titles like CSI etc which have mass and current appeal, Melrose on the other hand won't make them much.

I don't like siding with Paramount ... I know it would be fairer for us as consumers to get complete seasons ... but the past year has taught me to be happy with what we get.

My only wish is volume 2 comes in March/ April... it will be really annoying to have to wait any longer to complete the season because no -one wants to watch half the season and wait ages for the next half...especially not with a show like this where continuing stories are the lifeblood of it as opposed to other shows that contain stories in one episode.
i see dynasty had a gap of august to mid october last year for season 3 volumes 1 and 2 so my guess is we will see volume 2 around late april early may 09... they can't say that yet of course because it would defeat the purpose of splitting the season on dvd... but the only reason it will be delayed is if people don't buy it and they abandon the series once and for all, so if your a fan, cmon and buy it to keep the series being released....

i genuinely don't see this half season as poor value and i have just pre-ordered my copy now.

THE SEASON:
As for the show itself, season 5 was great for me... a lot of changes occurred during the season, particularly cast changes but the show still didn't lose it's momentum, it's ability to shock, it's strong plots and stories and characters that we cared about... at least not until the finale of the season ... season 6 never took off, the show couldn't recover from the mass exodus by the end of season 5. So, this was it really, the last enjoyable season, in years 6 and 7, fans didn't really connect with the new characters or care about them..
But this is a very satisfying season, because the characters we all knew and loved bowed out with strong stories.
There was Kimmy's cancer battle and battle to hold onto Michael's affections once Megan and him became serious,
Sydney finally got to be her own person this year... and not just Michael's lapdog....in season 4, she became nothing but a comical extra to other people's plots.. this year she found love, first with Carter and then with Craig... and wasn't the finale build-up great... Syd taking on Amanda and putting her and D&D out of business!
Alison and Jake seemed to settle down and were ready to start a family, but Alison got cold feet in the end and ruined it all....
Jane, well jane just lost it for the first part of this season! It was nice to see her get back that nasty streak we saw in her early in season 4 before Richard wore her down... I hated Jane the victim, so I was rooting for her crazy stalking of jake and alsion! Plus, it was nice to have a nut in action since Kimmy was mellowed out this year!

Other pluses this year..
Amanda got her spine back, season 4 and the parezi brothers saga made her such a victim too. She lost her edge... But this year, she was back to her bitchy self trying to assume control of d&d.
Taylor was a nice addition to the cast. Her devotion to Peter by the end of the season was shocking, hitting herself with a door to make him think he was abusing her! Genius, just what Kimmy would have done!

Of course, we did get lots of duds/ copies in the cast this year in anticipation of the exodus: kyle was a copy of jake (the macho hothead stereotype), Sam was the new Alison (starting off a nice girl), Jennifer was meant to be the new Syd (fat chance!) Taylor was the new Kimmy etc.

Somehow, the copying of characters didn't really effect the show this year... it was only when the characters we loved had gone in season 6 that it was clear the producers had made big mistakes in allowing so many central character's leave although most had run their course truthfully.

McHale's Navy - The Final Season! 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 15 people found this review helpful.

The phrase "shape up or ship out" holds a lot of water this season for Lt. Commander Quinton McHale and his fun-lovin' PT 73 crew of goof-offs and gamblers who were transferred to Italy for the show's final 30 episodes in McHale's Navy - Season Four!

After 3 seasons set on the South Pacific island of Taratupa, "McHale and his pirates" are reassigned to duty near the town of Voltafiore where they run afoul the shady Mayor Lugatto (Jay Novello) while continuing to oppose blustery Captain Binghamton and his jittery aide Lt. Carpenter, who are joined this season by Colonel Harrigan (Henry Beckham) and General Bronson (Simon Scott).

Also joining in on Season Four's capers, schemes and hijinks is local Dino Barone (Dick Wilson). As with co-star Tim Conway in Season Three, star Ernest Borgnine also gets to pull double duty this season in a [recurring] dual role as Guiseppe, McHale's italian lookalike cousin in "Guiseppe McHale" and "The Return of Guiseppe".

Guest stars include Jackie Joseph (The Little Shop of Horrors, Josie and the Pussycats), Pat Harrington Jr. (One Day At a Time, The Inspector) and legendary Don Knotts (The Andy Griffith Show, Three's Company).

McHale's Navy, with 138 episodes aired over four seasons (1962-1966), is one of television's longer-lasting military comedies and a classic B&W sitcom favorite of mine. Today you can preserve this classic B&W series in pristine DVD format.

The Shout! Factory release of McHale's Navy - Season Four is a 5-disc (750 min.) set featuring all 30 episodes in Full Frame (1.33:1) video and English mono audio. Here are the episodes and how the discs will be configured, plus original airdates:

Disc 1:
"War, Italian Style" (9/14/1965)
"The Bathtub Thief" (9/21/1965)
"Marriage, McHale Style" (9/28/1965)
"Guiseppe McHale" (10/5/1965)
"A Nip in Time" (10/12/1965)
"Piazza Bighamtoni" (10/19/1965)

Disc 2:
"The Bald-Headed Contessa" (10/26/1965)
"Voltafiore Fish-Fry" (11/2/1965)
"A Wine Cellar Is Not a Home" (11/9/1965)
"Vino, Vino, Who's Got the Vino?" (11/16/1965)
"The McHale Opera Company" (11/23/1965)
"The Good Luck Fountain" (11/30/1965)

Disc 3:
"Blitzkrieg at McHale's Beach" (12/7/1965)
"Reunion for PT 73" (12/14/1965)
"The Return of Guiseppe" (12/21/1965)
"The Boy Scouts of 73" (12/28/1965)

Disc 4:
"The Wacky WAC" (1/18/1966)
"La Dolce 73" (1/25/1966)
"McHale's Country Club Caper" (2/8/1966)
"Secret Chimp 007" (2/15/1966)
"36-24-73" (2/22/1966)
"My Son, the Skipper" (3/1/1966)

Disc 5:
"Little Red Riding Doctor" (3/8/1966)
"Who Was That German I Saw You With?" (3/15/1966)
"The McHale Grand Prix" (3/22/1966)
"An Ensign's Best Friend" (3/29/1966)
"Binghamton, at 20 Paces" (4/5/1966)
"Wally for Congress" (4/12/1966)

Editorial Review:

Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale (Ernest Borgnine), Ensign Parker (Tim Conway) and the rest of the oddball crew of PT-73 get onboard for one more season of ship-tipping adventures.

Season 4 finds McHale and company relocated halfway around the world, as they have been transferred off Taratupa Island to an American Naval base in Voltafiore, Italy. Between the scheming Mayor Mario Lugatto (Jay Novello) and Army Colonel Douglas Harrigan (Henry Beckman), reassignment isn t all it s cracked up to be, and with Captain Binghamton (Joe Flynn) out for blood, McHale has his hands full.

From 1962 through 1966, McHale s Navy was a must-see staple of ABC Television. This fourth season marked the end of what has since become one of the true classics of television comedy and includes a hilarious guest appearance from Don Knotts.

We're big fans of this series so I bought it for my husband as a gift and when I received it and gave it to him no one would have been the wiser about me buying online rather than at our bullseye. Don't be afraid to buy videos advertised as "new" online thinking that it might not be presentable. I've purchased many here and have been pleased.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 celebrates its 20th anniversary with a specially packaged DVD set housed in a limited-edition tin box featuring 4 custom lobby cards and a figurine of Crow T. Robot! Features four of the show's most-requested episodes--First Spaceship on Venus (1960), Laserblast (1978), Werewolf (1996), and Future War (1997).

The Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award-winning TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 became a pop culture landmark in the '90s by poking fun at horrible movies of every genre and time period, and letting us listen in. They made the unwatchable essential viewing.

Bonus Features:
* "The Oral History of MST3K" feature in three parts.
* 2008 Comic-Con MST3K Reunion Panel, featuring Joel Hodgson, Mike Nelson, Jim Mallon, Kevin Murphy, Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, Mary Jo Pehl, Bill Corbett, J. Elvis Weinstein, Paul Chaplin and Bridget Jones-Nelson. Moderated by Patton Oswald.
* Original film trailers.
* "Variations On A Theme Song", featuring all six versions of the theme song.
* Limited-edition version comes in a tin box with 4 lobby cards and a figurine of Crow T. Robot, all exclusive to this set.

So-So Solid Season 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is actually a pretty solid season considering the controversy and the so-called sexual harrassment that Tisha filed, supposedly. I watched that second episode of this season and it didn't look like she had such a problem with it, hair all messed up and whatnot. Besides, she was in more episodes; actually half the season she was in more episodes so I don't know how credible her story is.
This season could've been way worse without her but after all, it is Martin Lawrence's show and he held it up on his own with the supporting cast. Everybody else in the principal cast got more room to breath and shine. It would've been nice to see more of his other characters, although the 2nd time that Sheneneh came up was in my one of my favorite episodes where she tries to sue Tommy as Mark Cooper as her lawyer. David Alan Grier came back. This season went off without a hitch.

But....

i could tell from the first episode that things were different, the energy was different, the chemistry was different and Martin was different. Then about the second disc in, he looked and acted a little too TOO serious with his facial expressions, there was almost a darkness to him or something. Some of the episodes and material was a bit too weak like the halloween episode with haunted house, the episode where the marriage license is wrong and the white girl episode. I could tell by the second disc that they were starting to run out of ideas but like i said it could've been worse and Martin held up pretty well. So it gets a solid four from me.

Classic Already 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is one of my favorite television shows of all time, and they are cranking out seasons too fast for me, I just got Season One last month. This is perhaps my favorite season, season 2 was not as good in my opinion; alot of the "prison eps" I just couldn't get into, but maybe in time I will.

I could watch these over and over, nice commentary on select eps, always love the backstory on a favorite show, and to have it to watch whenever is great, commercial free of course who could top that?

These are characters I've grown to love, and many quotes and scenes are slowly slipping into my everyday life...it is absurd at times, maybe not THIS crazy, but you never know, Karma is a funny thing. Doing good things is not always the answer, but it's the hope that eventually it will is what perhaps keeps us going, and this show is just so hilarious and original that it keeps us entertained to the point we forget our problems anyway, nice escape into the world of Earl and the many characters of Camden County.

Editorial Review:

Karma is a funny thing. Just ask Earl (Jason Lee), who's learning the hard way that when you do something bad, it has a way of coming back and biting you in the ass! Hoping to turn his life around, Earl's got a lengthy list of detestable deeds to make up for. Also starring Jamie Pressly, Ethan Suplee, Eddie Steeples and Nadine Velazquez, My Name Is Earl is wildly offbeat and hilariously irreverent—the #1 new comedy of the season!

Editorial Review:

This four-disc set, bundled together in an appropriately cheesy but charming package that sports pop-up-book-styled artwork, compiles four episodes of the Peabody Award-winning comedy series. The "experiments" in question (Bloodlust, Catalina Caper, The Creeping Terror, and The Skydivers) aren't necessarily MST3K's finest hours--they don't hold a candle to the show's takes on The Magic Sword, The Atomic Brain, and The Brain That Wouldn't Die. But the barrage of verbal zingers and pop-culture references slung by hosts Joel Hodgson and Mike Nelson and their puppet pals Crow and Tom Servo are still quite funny, and should please both longtime fans and science fiction aficionados who don't take too much umbrage at having their beloved movies heckled.

The Collection is decidedly Mike-centric, with The Creeping Terror, Bloodlust, and The Skydivers all culled from his reign during the sixth season. Series creator Joel Hodgson's participation is relegated to season 2's Catalina Caper, a fan favorite that at one time was pulled from circulation over rights issues. As with most of Rhino's MST3K DVDs, each disc is dual-sided, with one side devoted to the original, uncut version of each film, and the other given over to the "MSTied" version. Theatrical trailers for each movie round out the remainder of the supplemental features. Given the size of this presentation, it might have been interesting to include some interviews with the show's writers and performers (Comedy Central once ran a passable special about the series), but fans will still appreciate having these four episodes together, each providing a wealth of laugh-out-loud moments. --Paul Gaita

A great find for the hard to come by seasons of our favorite show on a brand new DVD!!!

5 for content, 1 for DVD picture quality 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The content of this DVD is excellent - Married with Children was at its peak with David Garrison on board.

The DVD itself, however, is probably the worst quality I have ever had, as far as picture quality and navigation. There is way too much "noise" on some episodes - flashing, static, grainy picture. It actually looks worse than a VCR tape in many cases. This is apparent in only some episodes. Also, the main menu doesn't come up all the time, forcing a roundabout way of navigation to get back to it.

Perhaps I got a bad copy, but I think this issue should be noted by anyone planning to buy this classic season.

Good comedy 4 out of 5 stars.

One of the best seasons :-) 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I absolutely love Martin - the show and Martin himself. This, to me, is the best season - each episode is hilarious and I really enjoy watching it. I really love the fighting that goes on between Martin and Pam. They act like kids but keep coming up with fantastic insults.
I love the episode Cole On Ice where Martin gets Charles Barkley to appear on his talkshow, yet Cole ruins it and Charles backs out. There is even a special episode where Tisha Campbell hosts 'the best' of Martin throughout the beginning to the 100 episode. There's also the one where it's Martins birthday and there is a video message to him from Halle Berry and Chris Rock.
I think this is finally the season for the real comedy to shine through without some of the sillyness that previous seasons had. Now that I'm caught up on seasons 1-4, I'm hanging out for season 5 to be released. Can't wait - this is a brilliant show.

The best Comedy Series On Earth!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
