Just as good as I remembered! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I was hesitant to order a DVD of "Murder She Wrote" because of some bad reviews of the video quality. However, my copy came and I have viewed it with no trouble. The "missing scenes" mentioned in other reviews are simply planned cuts for the commercials - no scenes are omitted. I also had no trouble adjusting the color for good viewing - just used the contrast adjustment on my DVD player. For the shows themselves, there are outstanding with wonderful plots. I don't have cable so it has been sometime since I first saw these shows. I only regret that I did not purchase more of the videos when they were on sale.

Jessica is America's Miss Marple... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have always loved this show and have watched every one of the episodes during the years and am now watching them all over again. Don't you just love Jessica, our own Miss Marple. In the shows she is a retired school teacher who is now into writing murder mysteries, but who is solving a real life murder in every show. The cops may be stalled (or stupid), but Jessica is always on the ball. She's no namby pamby little old lady either. That tongue of hers can be quite sharp too and no one can best her when it comes to a battle of wits. Another reason to watch the shows is seeing all the actors and actresses you have forgotten over the years. I'm watching one now with Chuck Conners in it (from season 2) and I'd forgotten all about him. Every show is like that. You are constantly wandering who is that person? Jessica's facial expressions are hilarious to watch. She is a great actress, although this is the only role Angela Lansbury was in that I really liked all that much. I do believe that I like Jessica as much as I like Miss Marple.

Dead Parrot, Silly Walks, Cheese Shop and More... 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 12 people found this review helpful.

"Monty Python's Flying Circus" was created in 1969 by the BBC as Britain's response to "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In," the NBC show that was enjoying huge ratings at the time. The Monty Python troupe consisted of Cambridge and Oxford graduates John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. American-born Terry Gilliam provided the show's surreal animated sequences, which were interspersed among the skits.
"The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus Collector's Edition" is a massive, 21-disc box set containing every episode of the show's four-season run. The series is uneven and has its share of misfires, but when the comedy lands, the skits are hilarious. The "Ministry of Silly Walks" hangs on the long-legged Cleese's unbridled lunacy in high-stepping around the office, making methodical turns with precisely looney leg contortions and never skipping a beat delivering the dialogue. The skit is slapstick performed magnificently, and it's hard not to break up watching it.
"The Cheese Shop" also features Cleese, this time as a customer trying to order a bit of cheese from proprietor Jones only to be told, after requesting by name every type of cheese on the face of the earth, that it is either sold out, no longer available, not carried, or on order. Watching Cleese go from mild annoyance to apoplexy is a riot. Other highlights include the "Dead Parrot," the lumberjack song, and "The Spanish Inquisition."
The set also contains "Monty Python Live," a collection bringing together nearly 30 years of live performances, including the vintage 1972 "Live at the Hollywood Bowl," the 1998 reunion "Live at Aspen, 20 Years of Python," and the original 1972 "Monty Python's Fliegender Zirkus #1" rare German episode. In addition, there are are six mini-documentaries in the "Monty Python's Personal Best Collection," with songs and sketches from the entire series. There are two new documentaries chronicling how the Monty Python team was born that feature interviews with the Pythons, rare vintage photos, and home movies. The set is also chock full of bonus features that take the viewer behind the scenes, offering insight into how comedy routines are created and developed.

Editorial Review:

Very possibly the most tragic waste of Oxbridge educations ever broadcast. The programme that made all of America sit up and say: what? That put Spam back in the national pantry, launched crossdressing as a national craze, and made Rene Descartes a household name. That dramatically streamlined the high-school geek identification process.

I haven't watched anything in a long while that actually made me laugh so hard my belly ached. I mean from one episode to the next I'm left in stitches. Although all good things must come to an end, I preserved this good thing by purchasing the DVD and I'm certainly glad I did!

EXCELLENT!!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Macgyver! 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

One of my favorite shows, as a kid at least. It gets repetitive, but it's still fun to watch an episode or two every once in awhile. If you grew up with Macgyver as a kid, you know how great it was. It was like a 47 minute b-action movie. Sometimes nonstop action. Macgyver made a great debut in it's first season, and would go strong for years after. Season one has a few really good episodes, but my favorite by far is "Thief of Budapest". It starts out with a cold intro, meaning it doesn't have anything to do with the episode. Macgyver has to steal back a valuable horse because people may go to war over it. He has a pole vs sword duel on horses with a big mustache guy and Macgyver of course wins, and to top it off he rams his horse into a couple other guys on horses who were circling around him. Then there's something I've never seen before. A helicopter comes flying above Macgyver and has a strap attached to it which Macgyver puts on the horse and the helipcopter flies them away. Breathtaking. Then the episode actually starts. There's an amazing painful looking stunt, a bar fight, a fun car chase with a bunch of Mini Coopers going down stairs and other cool stuff, Macgyver makes out with a hot gypsy woman, he slides down a slanted roof Jackie Chan style, and they don't even use a stunt double. Such an awesome episode.

People seem to be mad that the only way you can get the 2 TV movies is to buy the Macgyver complete series box set. Maybe I'm just one of the few people that don't really care for the Macgyver movies. I'm happy that I bought all of the seasons seperately. I've seen the complete series box set and it has like 20 discs all stacked on top of eachother. There's no way I'd pay a hundred dollars for that.

Editorial Review:

Angus MacGyver is a secret agent who refuses to carry a gun with him, but fortunately never needs one. Drawing on a vast practical knowledge of science, MacGyver is able to make use of anything around him to create solutions to any problem he faces. Underestimating MacGyver is a major mistake made by his enemies and always results in the destruction of their plans

This one's worth it guys. Great DVD transfer, good menu and great packaging. Very impressed with the quality of some of the shows. (Not all of them are good) Great show too. Imagine driving around Hawaii in a Ferrarri with loads of girls in bikinis all over the islands. Wouldn't mind his job at all...

Great show and great quality. You will want to watch this series more than once.... (I'll bet you do too)

Do yourself a favour, you won't be sorry.

Magnum Rocks! 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This DVD was okay, but Magnum's 1982-83 Season wasn't as good as the 1st Season, 2nd Season, 6th Season, 7th Season, or 8th Season, because the Third Season of Magnum wasn't quite as funny as the first 2 seasons, plus I had noticed that on the Closed Captioning of each 3rd Season episode of this Magnum, P.I. DVD had left out a lot of the words that were actually said and they had revised the way the words were actually said on each episode, unlike it was on the DVD box sets of Season 1, 2, 6, and 7.

In addition to that, Magnum's 3rd Season wasn't as sophisticated as the 1st, 2nd, 6th, 7th, or 8th Season either.

Therefore, Magnum's 1982-83 Season kind of lacked some of the more sophisticated traits that all of those other seasons had.

So the creator(Donald Bellasario) should've done better on Magnum's Third Season, especially more like he did with the first 2 seasons.

On the other hand, Magnum's 1982-83 Season had some cool episodes too like "By It's Cover", "Mixed Doubles", which were my 2 favorite episodes of the 3rd Season, especially since they had an episode with Stuart Margolin, which played Rockford's ex-con buddy(Angel Martin) on THE ROCKFORD FILES, which was kind of intriguing, since Stuart Margolin's guest starred character on the "By Its Cover" episode was similar to his character on Rockford along with the fact that MAGNUM, P.I. was a private detective show just like THE ROCKFORD FILES was.

It was also interesting seeing Ernest Borgnine in the "Mr. White Death" episode before his days on AIRWOLF amd watching cast collide on the "KI's Don't Lie" episode when Magnum(Tom Selleck) ends up teaming up with Rick and A.J. Simon(Gerald McRaney, Jameson Parker) from the detective drama SIMON & SIMON to solve a bizarre mystery on a curse plaguing the islands of Hawaii along with the fact that SIMON & SIMON was kind of a spin-off of MAGNUM, PI.

This was also the season when Col. Buck Green(Lance LeGault) joins the cast as a part-time co-star on MAGNUM in the "Did You See The Sunrise" episode along with the fact that Col. Green was the same guy who played Col.Decker on THE A-TEAM.

I also liked the episodes "The Arrow That Is Not Aimed", "Birdman Of Budapest", and "Forty Years From Sand Island", since they bring up things from Magnum and Higgins past and bring in some unusual intriguing things to those episodes like trying to retrieve a stolen priceless Japanese Picaso plate in the "The Arrow That Is Not Aimed" episode along with the fact that I got a kick out of Magnum and Higgins being called "Magnum-San" and "Higgins-San" by Magnum's client(Mako).

The "Forty Years From Sand Island" episode was also an intriguing episode, especially when someone tries to kill Magnum and Higgins for revenge, due to some Americans torturing and killing a Japanese man while some foreigners were held captive at a prison camp in the past.

Additionally, the Third Season seemed to talk about Magnum's days in Vietnam the most more than any other season of MAGNUM, P.I. throughout Magnum's whole 8-year run on CBS for some reason.

In addition, this season also takes me all the way back to memory lane when MATT HOUSTON came out on ABC for the first time giving MAGNUM some interesting competition, especially since MATT HOUSTON was a very popular private detective show back then along with the fact that MATT HOUSTON had reminded so many people of MAGNUM, since there was obviously a slight resemblence between Magnum(Tom Selleck) and Houston(Lee Horseley), except Houston was huskier than Magnum was, plus I noticed that MATT HOUSTON had a lot of the same people who've guest starred on MAGNUM, P.I. as well.

It was also interesting seeing
-John McCook in "The Big Blow" episode before his days on BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS
-Joanna Kerns in the "Two Birds Of A Feather" episode before her days on GROWING PAINS
-Peter Brown in the "Heal Thyself" episode before his days on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL and YOUNG & THE RESTLESS
-Bill Lucking in the "Two Birds Of A Feather" episode during his Col.Lynch days on THE A-TEAM
-James Whitmore, Jr. before his co-starring days as Hunter & McCall's doofus fellow officer(Sgt. Bernie Terwilliger)
-Stu Margolin in the "By Its Cover" episode after his Angel Martin days on THE ROCKFORD FILES
-Nick Hammond in the "Foiled Again" episode after his days on "Spiderman" the series

This season also takes me all the way back to memory lane during the recession we had back in 1981-1982 during Ronald Reagan's presidency.

So now that Universal has released all 8 seasons of MAGNUM, P.I. on DVD, I'm hoping it will inspire Warner Bros. to finally get the private detective drama MATT HOUSTON released on DVD, since I've been dying for MATT HOUSTON to be released on DVD for nearly 4 years now along with the fact that MATT HOUSTON was in competition with MAGNUM throughout MATT HOUSTON's whole 3-year run on ABC, since Houston(Lee Horseley) was a semi-carbon copy of Magnum(Tom Selleck) along with a slight resemblence, except Houston was a very fortunate rich man living high on the hog who was never broke, unlike Magnum.

Martin's third season is one degree nicer than the previous ones. That means you won't stop laughing. Personally I can't stop myself from laughing when he starts dancing and doing his "moves" and face expressions. The man got too much skills, he's too damn good at it! I'm wainting impatiently for the fourth season hoping is gonna be as funny as this one...I can remember very well one episode called "Martin got a job" when he starts his new job as a "love doctor" and ended up hooking up his best friend "Tomy" with his eternal enemy "Pam"...Another good one is "Feast and Famine" when the boyz starts a bet against the ladies about who can cook better...

Disappointing Respect and Appreciation Shown for Fans With Lack of Special Features 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Married With Children was my favourite show as a kid and today would still rate in my top five of all time. My rating of this first season DVD is not of the show itself by any means, it is of the poor overall DVD package. We fans deserve better than what those who owned the rights to this show have delivered. They rely on the fact that this show has a huge fan base and that we will buy this DVD regardless of the fact that it comes with no commentaries or any special features except for the Married With Children Reunion Special which was filmed a substantial number of years before this was put on DVD I might add. We also only get half of that special anyway, David Garrison (who played Steve) tells us we'll be right back after the break only that is when it ends, they don't come back at all. You can't help but feel a little bit, well a lot ripped off!

How hard of expensive would it have been to grab at least one of the actors for each episode to commentate with some behind the scenes person as well? I don't think I've even watched a DVD with a TV show's pilot that doesn't at least have commentary for that episode. It would not have cost or taken much time but those who owned the rights couldn't be bothered. For shame! Viewers might as well have taped these when they aired on TV and watch them on your old video player as there's no advantage to owning the DVD.

Season one aired with 13 episodes and even though most classic Bundy moments come from later seasons, season one is certainly worth watching. In season one most of the on air time revolved around Al and Peggy and to a lesser degree their newly wed neighbours Steve and Marcy. Bud and Kelly are of course here but obviously being younger child actors they didn't appear much so there characters aren't as well developed as they will be in later seasons. Bud even has friends in this season and is certainly a lot cooler than he will be as he gets older and even Kelly isn't as bimboish as she will later become. Other aspects of the Bundy life that will change in future seasons are that the Bundys have food in the house, Al is not interested in sleeping with other women when given the opportunity and there are also other staff at the shoe store who will change in future seasons. There are classic lines such as in the pilot Al telling Steve if I wanted people to know what I was thinking, I'd be talking to them".

Hopefully with future seasons those who own the rights give a bit more respect to the show which boldly turned TV on its head in an era of the what did we learn today family shows. It pioneered the way for later dysfunctional family shows such as The Simpsons, Roseanne, Malcolm in the Middle and My Name is Earl and much more respect should given to this great important in TV history show when putting it on DVD!

Editorial Review:

The dysfunctional fun continues with the complete first season of "Married…with Children," the off-beat comedy that changed the face of TV family sitcoms forever, available on DVD for the first time! Nominated for 7 Golden Globe Awards between 1991 and 1994. 2-disc set with all 13 episodes.

I agree with the other posters. This is far too expensive, and the alternatives of Netflix or, for those with region-free players, importing from the UK makes sense.

But I love the series, so I expect I will enjoy this season.

Too Expensive--Not worth it 1 out of 5 stars.

The $80 cost of this DVD is ridiculous. We love this series and have seen all of the prior episodes but no way would we pay $80 for Season 6!!!! I would recommend that you rent this from your local library. They do not charge and they order almost all BBC material and certainly will have this. Amazon should wake up and price this more reasonably.

I LOVE this series! I have seen all of them through season five and can not wait for season six to become available in the US. If you like spy thrillers you will love this show. The plot's are intricate and always entertaining. This is the only show I have seen where bringing in new characters after a beloved character dies or leaves has been successful. I find I like the new characters just as much as I did the character no longer on the show.

Great season. 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

One of my favorite episodes is in this season. Can't wait to get season 8.

The last "Magnum" season (except for the real last season....) 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Magnum P.I. was cancelled in this, its seventh season. Tom Sellick was all set to take up the role of Indiana Jones, the character of Magnum was killed in a warehouse shootout (that's not really giving away a plot point since it happens in the first 5 minutes of the season finale). I think because of the impending end of the series, the producers "took off the gloves" and the result is a poignant and edgy season. That's not to say that Higgins (and Luthor Gillis) doesn't provide ample comic relief, but the "serious" shows are more serious and darker, much to the better for the viewer. Even when a show is basically a remake of an earlier episode (as is the case with "Solo FLight," a remake of "Home From the Sea" from Season 4).

So the really good episodes far outnumber the weak episodes, and even the weakest episodes (e.g. those early-season episodes that bring back "beloved favourite characters" from previous shows) have some great parts in them. The most important aspect of the season, however, is the formalisation of the Michelle plotline - in a few episodes we see the relationship between Magnum and his (ex?)wife and daughter play out. I normally don't like the introduction of small children into an action show or movie, but Michelle's daughter is exceptionally well played and brings the show to a new level of maturity.

Another obvious improvement in the shows of this season is the increased production value, or the impression of it. The shows feel cinematic in scope, using music to bridge acts, mixing up the visual styles, etc. Everything about the show is taken more seriously in this season than in previous seasons.

Anyways, the best shows of the season include:
Death and Taxes - sometimes known as the "Mama" episode (after the Genesis song that plays throughout). The first really "epic" show of the season. Magnum is taunted by a serial killer.

Little Girl Who - the aforementioned introduction of Michelle's daughter in an ongoing storyline.

Paper War - a comedy episode where Higgins and Magnum battle each other through practical jokes. Victims include the Bridge on the River Kwai model, and Magnum's rubber chicken. Not quite my favourite Higgins/Magnum battle (that would be the Season 8 episode "Pleasure Principle"), but probably it's second-best.

Novel Connection / Magnum on Ice - the crossover episodes with Murder, She Wrote (the M,SW episode is on the DVD, fortunately). As different as these two shows are (maybe because they were different), these episodes are very good. I think the tone is more Murder, She Wrote than Magnum (Higgins is oddly off-character in places, and there are the typical plethora of false leads in a M,SE episode). Works MUCH better than the Simon and Simon crossover from Season 3.

Murder By Night - an alternate reality, B&W episode with Magnum as Bogart.

Solo Flight - even the second time around, this story works. The writers wisely make it an homage, even having Magnum refer to events in "Home From the Sea" and using clips therefrom.

Laura - sometimes called the "Frank Sinatra Episode" - he plays a NYPD officer on the track of some bailjumpers. But there's something personal in his crusade..... I always thought of this as the "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" episode, as it is the second episode featuring a Genesis song this season.

Limbo - Magnum is "killed," but his spirit stays in Limbo in order to "say goodbye" to his friends (and, presumably, viewers of the show). Fortunately, there is enough wiggle room to allow him to return for Season 8, which has another series finale which isn't quite as poignant, but still very good.

What more is there to say? There are few extras (other than the Murder, She Wrote crossover episode), but the discs are good quality, and it's always nice to see these shows free of advertisements and syndication cuts. Well worth the cost for the quality of these episodes.

Editorial Review:

Magnum is back and better than ever in all 21 action-packed episodes of Magnum P.I.: The Complete Seventh Season! Tom Selleck returns as TV's most charming Primetime Emmy® Award-winning detective, heating up the exotic streets of Hawaii with his hot red Ferrari and top-notch investigative skills. Along for the ride are everyone's favorite characters - Higgins, TC and Rick - as well as Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote in a special crossover episode. From exploring a secret island to chasing kidnappers and surviving his fortieth birthday, you won't want to miss a minute of the excitement in this fantastic 5-disc set!
