Monk is/was the best show I have ever seen. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I love this show. It has everything and Tony Shaloub and Bitty Schram are simply brilliant. I was sad to see sharona go and the show managed to stay pretty good till the 5th season. Now, it is almost a parody....So sad, but seasons 1 and 2 are a knock out!

Superb Shaloub 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Tony Shaloub brings Adrian Monk, a brilliant former police detective, to life with his performances of the OCD investigator and received a well deserved Emmy for his role.

The scripts are well written with a pefect mix of humor and mystery combined and seems more of a throwback type of series, think of mixing of Murder She Wrote with Columbo bought up to date - no over the top violence, effects or graphics just a mystery solving series.

Shaloub is surrounded by a very good cast, including his nurse and psyhciatrist.

Monk is a breath of fresh air in the crime/mystery genre on television and I highly recommend it.

Charming as Ever 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I've seen season 1,2,3,4,....6. Season 5 is as imaginative and charming as any I have seen and I have seen 1/2 of season 5 so far. Each episode, while each has the same theme of cracking an impossible case by a challenged ex-policeman, is fresh. For the most part, the evidence is there for all of us to figure out if we could put it together. Mr. Monk is an endearing character. The chemistry is just right among the characters to weave a fabric of entertainment from beginning to end. There are few loose ends. Over the years I have caught a few minutes of an episode on free TV and when the commercial came on, I switched channels. It was not until I purchased the DVD that I found out how wonderful this series is. I found this true of a number of TV series like "NYPD Blue" "Picket Fences" etc. What have I been watching for the last 10 years.......Commercials. Free TV and now cable and satellite TV are nothing more than advertisements for TV shows to be purchased. I go to the library and get the DVD free for the first season to find if I like it. Since libraries do not carry the latests TV DVDs, I buy the rest on Amazon or eBay. 1/2 the time Amazon is less expensive than eBay. I buy used as much as possible and then sell them on eBay so the cost to me is very close to the auction cost. Sure beats paying a cable bill.

Bookmark another great year of TV 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

In its ninth season, Murder She Wrote's star, Angela Lansbury, proved to the masses once again that the show was headed in the right direction. Her acting chops were as sharp as her longevity was inevitable for the last eight years as America's favorite mystery writer and amateur sleuth, Jessica Fletcher.

In this season, lively and mysterious episodes abound. As evidence, in THE CHRISTMAS SECRET, set in the fans' favorite fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, we learn the meaning of family and why it is so important to love and fight through the squabbles of everyday life to stay together. In DEAD TO RIGHTS, we see a different side of Jessica Fletcher, as an uppity, flummoxed mystery writer. Her research assistant, Dana Ballard, is discovered as not having been the person Jessica thinks she really is--in this case, a pathological liar. THE WIND AROUND THE TOWER finds Jessica abroad in Ireland bouyed with on-location scenery and brouge-thick dialogue. Eccentric characters litter this episode, making it a colorful and intriguing caper. One of my favorite episodes of the season depicts Jessica up against a radio jock wannabe, Marcus Rule, in KILLER RADIO. When confronted by Jessica, Rule gets a rude awakening of his own from the "Down East" mystery writer--and quite effectively, too.

Curl up with your favorite cup of tea and get ready for another chapter of TV's best entertainment!

The item came in in good condition and timely time. We (my daughters and I) gave it to myhusband as a Christmas gift. He is totally pleased with the MASH set.

Always a good buy 5 out of 5 stars.

The content is incredible: all of MASH in one package. The only drawback is the interior of the packaging. The disks are not secured well in the case and come loose in shipping. This is of course not the fault of the seller and should have been done better by the manufacturer.

MASH complete collection 5 out of 5 stars.

A wonderful set of DVDs complete with fantastic new interviews; the companion book is short, but enjoyable. The best part, though, is simply the episodes themselves. This is television at its best.

This was a great series, didn't like how the it ended, but I guess in its own way it made sense. Don't know why it was not a success when it was on the air, but I think it was because it was not publicized well.

Lovin' The Angst! 4 out of 5 stars.

What a great trip back in time. I mean, I don't know if I should have been laughing this hard at the show, but when I am watching it, I crack up thinking about what an idiot I was in high school.

Oh poor unfortunate me! hahahaha! This is a great collection, and would make a great gift for anyone. It is a timeless story, because it is about the teenage condition: Self obsession, whining, and a false sense of emotional depth.

If you went to school in the 90's though, it is an absolute laugh riot!

If you're a bit Monkish, you'll like seasons 1-5 and six when it's out on DVD!

Delves deeper into the characters' lives and families 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

What I liked best about the second season of this show is how it digs much deeper into the private lives, history, pain, and relationships of the main characters. We learn that Monk has a brother, Ambrose, who has not left the family home in more than 30 years because he still believes, sadly, that their father will come home someday after abandoning them. We also learn that Monk had a lonely and difficult childhood, not surprisingly; that Sharona once had revealing photos taken of herself when desperate for money; that Stottlemyer has a difficult yet loving relationship with his wife.

The season finale brings us back to Dale the Whale, now played by Tim Curry instead of Adam Arkin, and a riveting prison story during which Monk learns that the car bomb was actually meant for his wife, Trudy, and not for him. He must take off to New York for further investigation.

This was a great cliffhanger for the third season of this series, which just keeps getting better.

Four great episodes from MST3K! 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

This set is apparently the DVD-only version of the 20th Anniversary set from Shout Factory. That means that it does not include the tin case, plastic Crow figurine or episode lobby cards. It does contain four great episodes of everyone's favorite cow-town puppet show.

This set features one episode with Joel Hodgson as host and three with Mike Nelson hosting. Two episodes are from the Comedy Central years while two are from the Sci-Fi Channel shows.

211- First Spaceship on Venus
Originally called Der Schweigende Stern and made in 1960, this international cast film about the first astronauts to land on Venus is a hoot. Filled with wonderful ideas about international cooperation, yet strangely dated in its science even for when it was made, this movie's vision of the future is fun, action-filled and nearly breaks the goofy meter! The jokes are endless, non-stop and really top-notch from the MST3K crew. "What's a herring weigh? Oh, about a pound." "Everything's better in the crawler copter." Just the endless jokes about the robot in the film, Omega, will keep you laughing throughout. The host segments are just awesomely funny. When the planet has it's "brown explosion" near the end you'll be rolling with laughter and the jokes fly really fast at that point. This is a sometimes overlooked, underrated classic that is too funny to describe. I love it and never get tired of watching it no matter how many times I see it.

706- Laserblast
This 1978 feature comprises the final episode from Comedy Central and is an odd little feature that received 2.5 stars from Leonard Maltin, a fact that is the source of endless wonderful wisecracks as the credits roll. Hilarious throughout in spite of the fact that everyone working on the show knew it might be their last one ever. The host segment wrap-up with great 2001: A Space Odyssey references is terrific.

904- Werewolf
This 1996 feature with Richard Lynch is even more ridiculous than most stories based on lycanthropy. The goofy meter breaks in the first reel of this film and never gets repaired. An archaeologist gets cut by the skeleton of a werewolf and so, predictably, becomes one. The acting, bad foreign accents, and other low-budget silliness in this film are hammered mercilessly by MST3K. The host segment where Mike and the 'Bots are a girl group singing a teen tragedy song, a sort of like "Leader of the Pack" type number, is absolutely killer funny.

1004- Future War
This 1997 video feature is so bad it is beyond words. The huge headed Robert Zdar appears in his second film done on MST3K (the other was Soultaker) and his acting is just as stiff as in the other movie. The film features terrible looking rubber dinosaurs, mediocre martial arts-style action sequences, a hackneyed formulaic plot and acting so bland that calling it wooden would be a compliment! Fortunately, it has enough movement and scene changes to at least fuel a barrage of great jokes from MST3K. It's fun, but only thanks to the MST3K treatment. By itself, this film would be unwatchable.

The extra features on the DVD discs include the 3-part history of MST3K and a video of the reunion panel from Comic-Con 2008. These are very informative and entertaining, even for long-time fans. Great stuff all around.

Well, it never ceases to amaze me!! It doesn't matter how many times I watch Al Bundy, Peggy & the rest of this "go nowhere" Family, I will never stop laughing!! Great for any age group & packed with endless "one liners" for your complete enjoyment, I recommend this as a "MUST BUY".

The biggest FAN!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Ok... so my opinion is very biased... as I am the biggest MWC fan. But... I loved the 9th season as I have loved the previous 8. I am looking forward to season 10. This season gives us a further peek into NO MA'AM: The National Organization of Men Against Amazonian Masterhood... Yes, I have installed that in my memory banks... Al is absolutely funny. Yes, as most say these later seasons are cartoonishly funny, but that is one of the reasons I like them.

AMAZING!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the greatest movie of all time. I can't get enough of it! Every time I watch it, I find something new that I missed the first couple of times. And it's hilarious to quote, too... Good movie for late-night movie nights!

Editorial Review:

The cult television show (in which a hapless space explorer and his robot pals are forced to watch and deliver a hilarious running commentary on bad movies) makes a successful transition to the big screen as Mike and the 'bots lay waste to the '50s sci-fi yarn This Island Earth (a painfully stiff would-be epic that's actually a cut above the usual MST3K fare). While ardent fans may be a little miffed that more advantage isn't taken of the expanded theatrical venue (aside from a tad more scatological humor than usual, the content here would fit in comfortably as a regular episode of the series), the nonstop, hyper-literate salvo of comedy riffs that run the gamut from references to Tommy Chong's backyard to Yes album covers more than make up for any conceptual complacency. Be prepared to laugh till it aches. --Andrew Wright

Soon there will be MORE THAN 4! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My review of seasons 1 to 4: Buy this set! At $15 a season for what is arguably
the finest sitcom in history it is worth it. It grew from a good if conventional first
season to something truly special in seasons 3 and 4. It had no harsh edges but
was funny and engaging and lacked false sentimentality. While mostly avoiding the
issues of the day it did present the steady growth and maturity of Mary Richards
(the lead character played by Ms. Moore) that fit the maturing of the feminist
movement in the 1970s and did so in a realistic way. But the writing and humor
always took first place (I can think of only one true "message show" and it was one
of the worst episodes of the series). BELOW is the truly important news though and
Amazon helped bring this about.

The great news for MTM fans (and I apologize if this has been posted here already)
is that a Fox executive has just announced they will now release the last 3 seasons
on DVD. Thank you Fox, Oprah, and especially the persistent fan base here at Amazon.
I had frankly given up on this happening as I thought the release of seasons 3 & 4 at
lower prices but still disappointing sales represented Fox's giving it its last "old-college
try." But apparently despite "financial realities" Fox realizes how special it is to own
the rights to MTM and that with so much else of lesser quality being released they should
complete the series on DVD. Again, thanks to all! And if you've never seen MTM, you
won't regret purchasing it. The writing, acting, and especially character development
are top notch!
