Editorial Review:

Mystery Science Theater 3000 celebrates its 20th anniversary with a specially packaged DVD set housed in a limited-edition tin box featuring 4 custom lobby cards and a figurine of Crow T. Robot! Features four of the show's most-requested episodes--First Spaceship on Venus (1960), Laserblast (1978), Werewolf (1996), and Future War (1997).

The Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award-winning TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 became a pop culture landmark in the '90s by poking fun at horrible movies of every genre and time period, and letting us listen in. They made the unwatchable essential viewing.

Bonus Features:
* "The Oral History of MST3K" feature in three parts.
* 2008 Comic-Con MST3K Reunion Panel, featuring Joel Hodgson, Mike Nelson, Jim Mallon, Kevin Murphy, Trace Beaulieu, Frank Conniff, Mary Jo Pehl, Bill Corbett, J. Elvis Weinstein, Paul Chaplin and Bridget Jones-Nelson. Moderated by Patton Oswald.
* Original film trailers.
* "Variations On A Theme Song", featuring all six versions of the theme song.
* Limited-edition version comes in a tin box with 4 lobby cards and a figurine of Crow T. Robot, all exclusive to this set.

The Emmy and strong reviews must reflect how BAD (perhaps MAD) most TV shows are these days 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 5 people found this review helpful.

We watched 2/3rds of the first season. All of the episodes were slow paced. Often excruciatingly slow paced. The show seems to be (really IS) mostly about smoking (mainly at work), drinking (mainly at work), and extramarital sex (mainly at work). Oh yeah - each and every character (including the children) is unhappy and behaving in a way that will lead them and those around them to greater unhappiness. Unless you are somebody who worked in this kind of environment and are looking for some nostalgia (and even then...), this show will not appeal to you.

THE OPENING CREDITS ALONE ARE ENOUGH TO MAKE ME LOVE THIS SHOW! 5 out of 5 stars.

Four reasons to watch this:
1. Jon Hamm is unbearably sexy.
2. The sets, clothing and other depictions of the era are perfectly done but not overwhelming. They don't take on more importance than the story itself.
3. The characters are complex, human, complicated. No one is a caricature or a cartoon. Everyone, even some minor secretary whose purpose in the show is to have sex with a major character, is shown as complex and human.
4. The story lines are intriguing, compelling, multi-layered.

There are some story lines that don't interest me: I get up and fold laundry or brush my teeth and floss anytime one of the kids are central to a scene. And I'm not interested in the horse-back riding life and intrigues of Betty. But those scenes don't dominate this fabulous show.

Hilarious 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I had never seen Mork and Mindy before receiving this DVD set. We invited a few members of the family over and watched the complete season. I'd never heard so much laughter from them. I was nicely impressed by Robin Williams's earlier work.

what a classic 4 out of 5 stars.

This show is it for classic comedy who doesnt like Robin Williams, got this free with my pepsi points, would love it if the other seasons were available too.

Robin Williams as Mork - funny even then.. 5 out of 5 stars.

We have all of the DVDs - our only regret is that the Mork show was only on tv for a few seasons. Robin William in his early days - extremely funny from the beginning and Pam Dauber is wonderful as Mindy too!

Great show for all times! 5 out of 5 stars.

I really enjoyed watching this now as an adult, more so than when I was a teenager. I was able to catch a lot of things I didn't get back then, and needless to say that this is one zany show. Robin Williams was brilliant and there couldn't be a better counterpart than Pam Dawber to handle the crazyness in her own sweetness. I particularly enjoyed the episodes featuring Exodur (did I spell that right?). Only Mork would understand Exodur's mission so well! The sound and overall quality of the DVD is excellent and my recomendation goes to both the old Mork & Mindy's fans as well as the upcoming generation. This is truly good entertainment.

Good DVDs, so-so show 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The DVDs are very good quality and even the ripping to iPod MP4 format is smooth with no hiccups. That said, I forgot how irritating the constant bickering between the two lead characters is! I must have been much more tolerant in my teens watching this show, but it really grates on me now. I don't think I can stomach more than one season of 'Moonlighting'. I still vote 'Remington Steele' as my all-time favourite TV show from the 80's -- the relationship between the two lead characters is much more comfortable.

A blast from the past 4 out of 5 stars.

This was actually a requested Christmas present for my 13 year old who had seen repeats on television and thought it was good. I caught it first time around when it was new and different, there really wasn't anything like that on TV. My son loves it but cannot believe the shoulder pads and the big hair; did we really dress like that?? Not to mention Bruce Willis with hair! If it's 80s nostalgia you're looking for, then this is the one for you.

The DVD set arrived in perfect condition in a fairly short time. Very satisfied and happy to have more Muppets to watch!

still fun after all these years 5 out of 5 stars.

My husband is a big Muppets fan, and when he found out Season Three was out on DVD, he didn't even ask.. he just ordered it. sure, some of the guests stars we are like: Huh? whozzat? but all in all, it's a great romp overall.

Hard to argue with Muppets 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

There's not much to complain about when you're talking about the muppets. I've purchased all three seasons for my girlfriend, and she's pleased as punch! Season 2 and 3 even had the "fuzzy" velvet covers.

Just Great! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

One question though: I noticed that one or two of the skits are repeated in two of the episodes (on Disc 1 anyway) Rowlf and Fozzie singing "An Actor's Life for Me" and the Chickens playing the chimes. Maybe one of the episodes was a UK release?

great 5 out of 5 stars.

I used to watch them back in the 70s and 80s. never forgot kermit or Miss Piggy.. very nice stories with very interesting guests. music, show, and funny stories.

The Muppet Show 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This was one of the best purchases I made this year. We sat down as a family to watch it. We knew our five year old would love it and she did. What was really amazing was the genuine laughter that came from my 13 year old. So once a week we sit down as a family and my husband and I get to share one of our favorite childhood shows with our children. We get to watch as one our favorites becomes one of theirs.

Great bit of nostalgia 5 out of 5 stars.

Introducing a classic to a new generation 4 out of 5 stars.

One day, I was sitting in the living room with my 7 year old reading a book while she was watching television. In between shows, there was a snippet on Disney Channel where her favorite star, Miley Cyrus, sang a song with a different band...Doctor Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. I tried to explain to my daughter how we watched the Muppet Show as a family every Sunday night, and was inspired to buy this set the next day. She loves them, and I love watching them with her. Just as amusing today as it was when I was her age.
I will be picking up the later seasons as well.

Editorial Review:

Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub), the phobic private detective on psychiatric leave from the San Francisco police department, has his work--both professional and personal--cut out for him in Monk: Season Six. Typical of the long-running TV dramedy, Season Six doesn't cultivate any new story arcs played out over its 16 episodes. But Monk does get a little closer both to understanding himself and the mystery behind his wife Trudy's unsolved murder--the defining event that drove Monk into off-the-charts obsessive-compulsive behavior. The season opens with the enjoyable "Mr. Monk and His Biggest Fan," guest-starring Sarah Silverman as Marcy Maven, a largely benign stalker of Monk who annoys him and his long-suffering assistant, Natalie (Traylor Howard). When Marcy is accused of using her dog to murder a neighbor, however, Monk leaps to her rescue, endangering himself and Natalie. The episode is particularly noteworthy for a scene in which Monk reluctantly takes part in a go-on-a-date-with-a-studly-cop charity auction, and no one bids on him. (Except Marcy, of course.) "Mr. Monk and the Rapper" stars Snoop Dogg as a successful rap artist who hires Monk to prove he didn't murder a rival. Problem is, Monk actually believes Dogg's character did the misdeed. The story re-introduces Monk's neurotic tendency to blend in with stressful situations during a kind of mental blackout. Shalhoub is hilarious taking on hip-hop affectations in his language and manner, and he has the same chameleon-like problem in a later episode called "Mr. Monk Joins a Cult." In the latter, Monk infiltrates a religious cult under the sway of a charismatic leader (Howie Mandel) suspected of murder. But while investigating the alleged spiritual figure, Monk is persuaded by him to leave his life and join the group. Monk's psychiatrist, Dr. Kroger (Stanley Kamel), proves instrumental in helping Monk free himself from the cult, one of many services that makes Monk feel obliged to help Kroger when the shrink's son, Troy (Cody McMains), gets in trouble in "Mr. Monk and the Buried Treasure." One of the more harrowing scenes in Season Six takes place in that story: Monk and Troy are buried alive in a car covered by a ton of gravel. "Mr. Monk and the Man Who Shot Santa" finds Monk a pariah after being accused of wounding a seemingly friendly fellow tossing stuffed toys to people on the street. Finally, the two-part "Mr. Monk Is On the Run" finds Monk himself turned fugitive after he appears to have shot a man involved in Trudy's death. Pursued by a crooked lawman (Scott Glenn), Monk conspires with Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levin) to help him disappear, much to the distress of Natalie. --Tom Keogh

Deliciously Clever British Police Murder Mysteries 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

These are well-written, well-acted British police murder mysteries, all taking place in the small towns of Midsomer. The entire casts of each of the stories in the series plays their parts so well, one quickly forgets that these are actors and not actual residents. The plots are clever with enough twists to keep you guessing at every turn. The new releases can't arrive fast enough for me!

Rates with top three tv mystery series ever made! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Mysteries have been my television favorites since the days of Perry Mason! Seeing the British series through A & E and/or The Biography Channel has taught me that the English countryside and the dry British wit are perfectly suited to an outstanding mystery. John Nettles is one of the best actors ever. In watching the man work, he becomes DSI Barnaby. The series was superb in every way. The series was smart, intelligent, and authentic. It always had side stories of interest. The Barnaby family, Cully's growing thespian career, and Joyce's interest in the arts made us care about the characters, especially Tom Barnaby. It was never easy figuring "who did the dastardly deed," or if we were allowed to see who did it, it was pure fun seeing DSI Barnaby find his man (or woman). What a shame we don't get to see this particulary series any longer. Reruns would be better than nothing at all.

This series is so superb that it is difficult to give words to explain why it is so entertaining. It reminds me of the MI-5 series, but not quite so youth-and-technology-oriented. At least with our own sets of the shows, we can watch them over and enjoy them almost as much the second, or third, or fourth time. It gives one a great thrill to introduce the series to new mystery fans via the DVD's.

Don't Blame A&E 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a brief correction to Vlad48's review, "Wiped Clean by A&E" -- Just to set the record straight, A&E (the releasing agent for this set) is not responsible for bowdlerizing the contents. The programs here are taken from the US distribution versions, not the original BBC masters. These are the versions shown on PBS back in the 1970s, and in America ever since.

I wish A&E had used the original masters, or that the BBC would release its own set, especially with extended commentary etc., as other reviewers wish for. Censorship of any kind sucks, especially with material this classic. I rate it 4, not 5, stars for this reason. All things being equal, however, it's Monty, so what's to cry about for the price? 16 dvds for under $60 is a bargain--it comes out to around ten laughs for every penny spent. Snap 'em up!
