Geek Smart 3 out of 5 stars.

"Is it a mystery?
Is it a mystery?

I'm spinning out of control
Out of control"
(Hoobastank)

Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):

1. Bruce (Masi Oka) and Lloyd (Nate Torrence) are gadget geeks working for the secret spy agency CONTROL
2. They develop an invisibility cloak
3. It gets stolen
4. They have to get it back

This is a simultaneous spin-off to the movie "Get Smart", allegedly taking part during the time frame of the movie. About five other movie characters appear in this very short (71 minutes) parody, some only as brief cameos.

It's not great cinema, but it manages to raise a few chuckles without resorting to potty humor, foul language, tired sight gags or gross-out scenes.

Exactly what you thought it'd be
For something straight to DVD
It has no wisdom to impart
And won't push viewers to "Get Smart"

seven movies prove that bob hope can do no wrong. the comedy is as sharp
as can be in the facts of life while alias jesse james reunites bob with

jane russell. take a chance on this one. you won't be dissapointed.

now if someone will relase beau james on dvd...

Bob Hope 4 out of 5 stars.

It was funny, but some of the movies were better than others. The best two movies were Alias Jesse James and I'll Take Sweden. Half are in color and half are from the days of black and white films. In watching these movies, you are able to watch Bob Hope develop (over time) his acting ability in the film format and also his humor expressions.

Thanks for (some of) the memories 3 out of 5 stars.

It may be safe to say that Bob Hope is a Hollywood legend. He achieved this status through some decent acting and comic timing, along with his USO tours and a few really good movies (most notably, his Road pictures with Bing Crosby). Somewhere along the way, however, I think Bob Hope became a bit of a caricature of himself and his later work didn't really display how good he once was. The MGM Movie Legends Collection of seven of his movies shows the gradual decline in the quality of his work. (To be fair, however, a lot of the failings in these films were beyond his ability to fix.)

The first movie (chronologically) is They Got Me Covered, a World War II movie with Hope as a bumbling war correspondent and Dorothy Lamour as his love interest. He is given a lead on a complex sabotage plot, but his informant is soon killed and the only copy of the notes are in an untranslatable shorthand. This film and the second in the set - The Princess and the Pirate - have Hope at his peak. This second picture has Hope as a 17th century version of a vaudevillian who rescues an incognito princess from a vicious pirate. Unfortunately, he also has the pirate's treasure map, which makes him a very wanted individual.

While the first two movies are on practically the same level as Hope's best movies, a slight decline is seen in the next one, Alias Jesse James, in which he plays an insurance salesman who has sold a policy to the famous outlaw. Now, he has to make sure James stays alive. There's a lot of good humor in this one, but sometimes Hope seems to be doing a Lou Costello imitation, and the attempt to capture the glory of his earlier comic westerns (such as The Paleface) is only partially successful.

The Facts of Life is the movie where the films really start to go downhill. Though still passable, this comedy-drama has Hope and Lucille Ball trying to cheat on their respective spouses and finding an affair is not as easy as it seems. I would imagine at the time that this was a disappointment to many Hope (and Ball) fans who would have expected something a bit more comic and less serious.

Road to Hong Kong is an improvement, thanks to the easy chemistry of Hope and Crosby, but the third member of the Road pictures, Lamour, is relegated to a cameo appearance, and female lead Joan Collins is no Lamour. Nonetheless, the formula is tried and true and works.

The last two movies in the set are easily the worst. In I'll Take Sweden, Hope plays a widowed father of Tuesday Weld. Hope is the ultimate square, and though the film seems to mock teenagers, it actually just makes Hope look dumb. Frankie Avalon is Weld's love interest, but Hope doesn't like him, so he moves off to Switzerland, where she falls for someone even worse. The final film, Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number, is little more than a sitcom episode, with Hope accidentally getting entangled with a movie star. It's one of those stories that could be resolved quickly and cleanly if Hope just speaks the truth immediately, but he doesn't and the forced wackiness ensues.

The last movies are riddled with bad dialogue, contrived plots and cheap-looking sets, all of which were things beyond Hope's control. I do feel, however, that by the time of these films, Hope had been typecast into a role as himself, just spouting off one-liners and seeming like a stand-up comic more than an actor; in fact, in I'll Take Sweden, his character's name (Bob Holcomb) is practically his own.

The set offers little in the way of extras beyond trailers. In the Amazon rating system, the first two movies rate a high four stars, Road to Hong Kong a low four, Alias Jesse James a high three, The Facts of Life a low three, and the last pair barely two stars. Overall, I am giving the set three stars; while it's got some good films, it also is a poor showcase for exactly how good Hope could be.

Pure Sunshine 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I loved this short-lived series for its pure, zany sunshine. Yes, it's good to have dramas that explore the heavy issues, but isn't there a place for fun without cruelty or nastiness? The Greatest American Hero offers wish fulfillment, clever plots, deft acting, and laugh after laugh.

Believe it or not, he's walking on air! William Katt is back as reluctant flying crime fighter Ralph Hinkley, who would know exactly how to use the red superpower suit given to him by aliens if he hadn't lost its instruction manual. In this season, Ralph pitches in the World Series, prevents World War III, suffers amnesia, joins the circus, battles bad bikers, voodoo vengeance, a fast-food mascot and much more, all with the help of his attorney girlfriend Pam Davidson (Connie Selleca) and FBI agent Bill Maxwell (Robert Culp). Who could it be? Believe it or not, he's THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO!

This collection features all 22 Second Season episodes with such guest stars as Markie Post, Joe Mantegna, Barbara Hale, Keenan Wynn, Dixie Carter, Don Drysdale and more, plus all-new Extras that include revealing and fun career-retrospective interviews with creator Stephen J. Cannell and music composer Mike Post.

Girlfriends - Season 3 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I watched a few episodes of the first season of GIRLFRIENDS but had issues with it so stopped watching it. First of all, I compared it negatively to the then cancelled LIVING SINGLE. Secondly, I didn't "get" the characters and felt that they were way too over the top and fake. Third, I hated the cut-aways to show viewers "Joan's thoughts". I didn't give the show another chance until the popular "church episode" of Season 2 also known to me as Toni & Joan's reconciliation. I became intrigued with what their fight had been about and if they could truly put their friendship back together therefore I decided to watch the entire third season & I'm so glad that I did!

As an avid tv fan I should know by now that sometimes the first 2 seasons of shows can be a sort of testing ground and that if you stick with the initial bad storylines, you get to know and love the characters as the storylines get stronger and draw you in. On a superficial level, I loved the characters' Joan & Toni's wardrobes so in addition to anticipating the stories, I anticipated seeing what they'd be wearing.

During this season the strongest storylines were Toni's relationship with Todd, William's relationship with Monica and Maya's marital struggles & subsequent single status; another hilarious side story were the few episodes when all of the main characters (except Toni) were living in Joan's house.

The negatives about this season: I hated the pairing of Joan & Ellis because the two actors had no chemistry so their relationship was very boring to me and Lynn's entire purpose seemed to be the punchline - the appearance of her birth mother & her adoptive parents appearing to demand that she repay her student loans were sooo random and completely bored me but the strong storylines of the others more than made up for this lapse.

Overall I really enjoy this disc set and loved the two extras regarding the wardrobe & the production of Toni's wedding.

Girlfriends - The Complete First SeasonThis is one of UPN networks newer shows that is witty, funny and full of characters. From the staunch character played by Ms Tracee Ellis Ross to the modern day free spirit Persia White. Affluent African Americans portrayed as never before in a natural and real-life setting. I applaud producer Kelsey Grammer of Cheers, and Frasier fame for a good script, well developed characters and just enough modern day problems and situations to make this show worth taking a look at. The actresses and actors are well known within the African American community and accomplished in their own right. Basically you have a sitcom that follows traditional lines but with a hint of Ebonics thrown in to be enjoyable to all. The women are beautiful and strong American women and the fine portrayal of an affluent African American man by actors such as Reggie Hayes is a welcome treat for viewers like myself who are so tired of seeing African Americans portrayed as pimps and hookers. Great work from a great cast and again good stuff Mr Grammer, one of the funniest men on TV today.

Watched all episodes in one day ;-0 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

When this finally was released, I scooped up my copy and the next day, watched all episodes in one hit. I love this show and this season is no let down.
It has some great story lines here and some moments that make you cry (in Trick or Truth at the church). I love Sister Sistah, Joans Birthday Suit and X Does Not Mark The Spot. The other really great episode is Can't Stan Ya where Maya's 'friend' Stan threatens to tell her husband about their relationship. He ends up in their house when Maya comes home one night and makes for a terrific storyline.
The two things I really like about this show is firstly the comedy and having so many laughs throughout the series, but also the fact that these girls fight and have issues with each other, but ultimately they are always there for each other when things are bad. When Joan was given X at a nightclub, the first thing she did was to get her date (who gave her the drug without her knowledge) to phone her girls. If you don't have friends like these, this show hooks you in to their lives and if you do have friends like these then you related really well. I cannot wait for the other seasons to come out and fully give this 5 stars because it's so fantastic.

Fun Final Season 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

My second favorite episode, Divorce Venusian Style, kicks off the final season. We finally get to see the greenguys! And a weenie wagon doing 113 mph.

By the third season, the humor and relationship were clicking well, but some of the story lines (mostly the unaired ones) were weak.

I enjoyed the episode Robert Culp wrote and directed, Vanity, Says the Preacher. As this episode wasn't aired before the series was cancelled, it made a nice bonus.

Editorial Review:

It’s the third and final season for reluctant superhero Ralph Hinkley (William Katt), his lawyer girlfriend Pam Davidson (Connie Sellecca) and by-the-book FBI agent Bill Maxwell (Robert Culp), but the high-flying fun is far from over! In this season, Ralph is reunited with the ‘green guys’ from space, stumbles into danger at his high school reunion, fumbles his way to his and Pam’s wedding, and tangles with doomed rockers, ruthless ranchers, strange gamers, killer magicians, the KGB, Central American revolutionaries, a genetic Nazi monster and more. Believe it or not, he’s still walking on air as THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO! This collection includes all 13 third season episodes of the action-comedy hit created by Stephen J. Cannell (THE COMMISH, 21 JUMP STREET, HUNTER) and features such guests stars as David Paymer, Bob Saget, Rick Dees, Tawny Little, June Lockhart, André The Giant and more.

disappointing 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have been a fan of Gilligan Island all my life, and I own all three seasons, that it was on. This was clearly a poor attempt to recapature the magic that was so great in the orignal airing on the show.
When I say disappointing I mean that the video quality wasnt even as good as it was in the orignal episodes, They had to replace Ginger with another woman, As Tina Louise was fed-up with always being tied to her character in the show, so she refused to be a part of anything that would full-fill that image she created. My advise would have been, get over your self, america fell in love with orignal cast, and un-doubtly you made some money as "Ginger Grant", so get in there and come full circle.
The other disappointing factor of the movie was that, when it came to the point where they were to go their own ways, the scene was was simple "ok, see you later", and they all just walked off in different directions, but the only fitting end to the story was that they took a reunion tour on the new "MINNOW II", and wouldnt you know they got lost at sea again, and landed on the same island.
I am sure with a little more thought it would have been a better movie.

Good, But 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This series has some great lessons and depicts an historical time period. However, most of the episodes suffer from too much editing. They appear to have original commercials edited out as well as some period of regular episode footage. Almost all episodes have some part of the plot missing. Will and Jeff talk about their conversation or some part of the episode that is not there in the edited version on these discs. Overall good stories, but you sometimes have to deduce the missing parts to make sense of the remaining story. I would buy this series again only if the entire episodes were present.

Editorial Review:

The Guns of Will Sonnett follows the exploits of Will Sonnett, a retired army scout and his grandson Jeff, as they journey through the west in search of the boy's father, James. James abandoned his family twenty years before to become a renowned gunfighter. As Will and Jeff ride the high plains in hopes of finding and redeeming James, they often become involved with people who have been touched by the guns of James Sonnett. Although Will and Jeff come close, it is difficult to find James, who does not want to be found and who is always on the move. Starring Walter Brennan and Dack Rambo.
