Good, But 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This series has some great lessons and depicts an historical time period. However, most of the episodes suffer from too much editing. They appear to have original commercials edited out as well as some period of regular episode footage. Almost all episodes have some part of the plot missing. Will and Jeff talk about their conversation or some part of the episode that is not there in the edited version on these discs. Overall good stories, but you sometimes have to deduce the missing parts to make sense of the remaining story. I would buy this series again only if the entire episodes were present.

Editorial Review:

The Guns of Will Sonnett follows the exploits of WIll Sonnett, a retired army scout and his grandson Jeff, as they journey through the west in search of the boy's father, James. James abandoned his family twenty years before to become a renowned gunfighter. As Will and Jeff ride the high plains in hopes of finding and redeeming James, they often become involved with people who have been touched by the guns of Will Sonnett. Although Will and Jeff come close, it is difficult to find James, who does not want to be found and who is always on the move.

Great Rainy Day Cheer Up 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The Green Acres dvds provided a great rainy day cheer up for my family. My seven year old really enjoyed them. There was no crime, no violence, nothing but pleasant humor!!!

I am so glad to see things like this out there for families to watch.
Thank you.

Green Acres 5 out of 5 stars.

Great old TV show, good to see the beginning how the show started and can't wait for series 4 to be released, my six year old loves watching it as well. Excellent conversion to DVD.

It's the place to be! 5 out of 5 stars.

It's been so much fun to watch these again. I saw them on Nick at Night years ago and decided to buy them and watch them again.

Green Acres First Three Seasons 5 out of 5 stars.

It is a classic TV series worthy of being preserved and enjoyed again and again.

Why is this more? 2 out of 5 stars.

The individual seasons are $15 each and there are only 3 so this set should be no more than $45. Why $60 when you don't get anything extra the individual sets don't have?

Misleading Packaging, Episodes Altered, Carsey-Warner Does Not Want To Cooperate In The Matter 1 out of 5 stars.
8 of 15 people found this review helpful.

This is a review of this product: Grounded For Life Season 1 DVD. Amazon may display this review on the page of another version of this product, for which this review may not apply. After reading this review, please click on the link so that you can be assured that the product this review applies to is the same one you thought it was for.
--------------------------------------------------

[Please Note: The 1 Star rating is NOT for the episodes themselves, but for the misleading packaging and for Carsey-Warner's lack of cooperation in helping the fans identify the altered episodes.]

I'm a big fan of Grounded For Life and have every episode on tape from the original Fox and WB broadcasts since day one (January 10, 2001). I was thrilled with the prospect of buying all of the episodes on DVD (save for season 5 which hasn't been released yet) so that I could have better quality copies, taking up less shelf space, and could then erase all of the tapes I recorded.

Although I have not had the chance to watch any of the episodes on the Season 1-4 DVD sets, I did check out all of the discs (to ensure playability) and actually stumbled upon something that I did not like: The season 1 episode "I Wanna Be Suspended" (disc 1, episode 3) has been ALTERED! The Ramones song "I Wanna Be Sedated" played during the concert scene in the original tv broadcast was replaced with generic music on the DVD (at 4:37), a brief concert flashback a few minutes later (at 7:28) replaced some instrumental song with a different instrumental song. There may be more alterations to this episode, or other episodes in any of the sets, as I didn't check any further than this.

I know why music is routinely replaced on TV-on-DVD releases, so I don't have a problem with the replacing of the music. However, I am displeased by the misleading packaging which states that these are "uncut" episodes. Although there is a difference between "uncut" and "unaltered", the "uncut" remark on the box implies that the episodes are exactly the same as what was originally shown on TV, which obviously isn't true. The "uncut" statement should have had an asterisk directing to text at the bottom to tell that music has been altered in some episodes.

I sent an e-mail to Anchor Bay (TVonDVD-AT-anchorbayent-DOT-com), the company that released the DVD sets, to get a complete list of all alterations (music or otherwise) for every Grounded For Life set. Surely a list of alterations for every set must exist, as the person at Carsey-Warner whose job it is to replace the music when the episodes are prepped for DVD has to have a list to work off of. Since I have the entire series on tape in their original network broadcast versions, I need to know which of my recorded episodes I need to keep because they're different from what I just bought on DVD, as I plan on erasing the taped episodes that are 100% exactly the same as on the DVD.

I received a reply from Rose Zivkovich. She e-mailed Janet Bonifer, Executive Director of Marketing & Creative Services at Carsey-Warner (her address is either jbonifer-AT-carseywerner-DOT-com or jbonifer-AT-cwm-DOT-com), who told Rose that "Our legal department advises against providing this type of information to consumers."

These is no legal reason why Janet, or anyone else at Carsey-Warner, could not furnish the list to me (whether through Rose, or to me directly). Anyone who has every episode on tape from the original Fox and WB broadcasts (like me) and has the time (not like me) could check every one of the 78 episodes (91 episodes, including Season 5) one-by-one to compile the same list. Getting the list from Carsey-Warner would save time, energy, and insure completeness in the list.

I tried e-mailing Carsey-Warner directly via the most appropriate contact I could find (Janet's boss): Barron Postmus, bpostmus-AT-cwm-DOT-com, Vice President of Marketing & Creative Services. To no surprise, he has not replied to any of the e-mails that I've sent to him.

I made one final attempt to obtain the list of alterations by writing a letter to the series creators Mike Schiff & Bill Martin via their agent (c/o Nancy Jones, Creative Artists Agency, 2000 Avenue Of The Stars, Los Angeles, CA 90067). It's now two months since I sent the letter and I have not heard back from them, by either postal mail or e-mail.

It's rather disheartening to know that Carsey-Warner does not want to cooperate in the matter. It's sad that they treat their fans this way. The company makes money off of us fans, and would go out of business if none of us watched their shows and bought the related products.

RAISING KIDS CAN BE TOUGH. IT’S EVEN HARDER WHEN THEY’RE REALLY RAISING YOU! Donal Logue and Megyn Price star as Sean and Claudia Finnerty, a fun-loving Staten Island couple who were pregnant and married by age 18. Now in their early 30s, they’re stuck raising three headstrong kids while still trying to grow up themselves. Even with the meddling of Sean’s irresponsible brother Eddie (Kevin Corrigan) and judgmental father (Richard Riehle), can three generations of family dysfunction survive everyday life and still stay as cool as they think they are? I miss this show! 5 out of 5 stars.

Great show! The WB should've stuck with it a little longer. It'd be pretty cool to have a reunion show with all the characters.

One of TV's most underrated shows 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This show is hysterically funny and it is consistent. There isn't a bad episode on any of the available DVD's. THe casting is perfect. All the characters contribute and all are funny and incredibly likable. If you haven't seen the show check it out. It's one of the best sitcoms ever that many have never heard of.

Great sitcom 5 out of 5 stars.

Well if you like me you did not find this show till you saw reruns of it on weekend mournings on ABC Family. It quickly became a mourning habit of watching and I totally digged the show. I loved the style they used in using flashbacks to tell what was going on. I was glad to see it was out on DVD its a fun show and the characters are funny as hell (Eddie is my personal fav) I even got the rest of my family on it. I dont know how this season compares to the rest but I'm very happy with my purchase

A CLASSIC 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Good Times is a classic show. It reminds me of my upbringing and how important it was for the family to stay together dispite all the obstacles.

I highly recommend this DVD.

Please show it to your kids so that they can learn that there still are loving families out there no matter what race/nationality they are.

A Great Family Sitcom until the Network ruined it! 5 out of 5 stars.

Let's face it, Good Times was never the same after James Evans Sr. played by John Amos was killed off. Esther Rolle fought hard to keep the Evans family as the first African American nuclear family on television with a father and a mother. James and Florida Evans were terrific together as a couple onscreen and believable playing parents to J.J., Thelma, and Michael. I loved the bickering between J.J. and Thelma because there was still love between them. Michael was the radical son who aspired for greatness. THen there is the lovely and funny Willona Woods, beloved friend and neighbor, to the Evans family with all the gossip. The thirteen episodes began a legacy of a long series run. The first season has the family living in urban Chicago. No mention of Maude where Florida Evans first appeared or of life in New York City. My only complaint is that there are no subtitles or foreign languages or any extra special features like recollections or reunions.

Editorial Review:

Nell Carter shines as Nellie Ruth "Nell" Harper, the role that twice earned her Emmy(r) and Golden Globe Award nominations, and helped redefine the meaning of "family." Available for the first time ever on DVD, Gimme a Break! is the funny, hip and sometimes poignant portrayal of the Kanisky family: widowed Police Chief Carl; his three daughters Katie, Julie and Samantha; and their unflappable housekeeper-turned-surrogate mother (Carter). This 3-disc set includes all 19 episodes from Season One, as well as a preview from Season Two, bonus episodes from the smash-hit sitcoms Kate and Allie and Charles in Charge, and a special featurette that takes a look back at other great TV shows of the eighties. Featuring renowned guest stars such as Danny Glover, Rue McClanahan and Helen Hunt, Gimme a Break! is the beloved sitcom that delivers both love and laughs.

I love this series 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I love this series. By Season Six the series was back on track. Mama came back. Thelma was married to Keith. And J.J. was J.J. By the way, I love the DVD cover. Doesn't it look like they all sat there and specifically posed for this DVD? That's so cool. Does anyone know how Ralph Carter is? I remember reading some years back in The Enquirer that he is HIV-positive. I hope he is staying healthy.

The song for "Good Times" was written by Alan & Marilyn Bergman.

These are the opening-theme lyrics to "Good Times"

Good Times.
Any time you meet a payment. - Good Times.
Any time you need a friend. - Good Times.
Any time you're out from under.
Not getting hassled, not getting hustled.
Keepin' your head above water,
Making a wave when you can.

Temporary lay offs. - Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs. - Good Times.
Scratchin' and surviving. - Good Times.
Hanging in and jiving- Good Times.
Ain't we lucky we got `em - Good Times

And, these are the closing-theme lyrics to "Good Times"

Mmmmmm
Just lookin' out of the window.
Watchin' the asphalt grow.
Thinkin' how it all looks hand-me-down.
Good Times, yeah, yeah Good Times

Keepin' your head above water
Makin' a wave when you can

Temporary lay offs. - Good Times.
Easy credit rip offs. - Good Times.
Ain't we lucky we got 'em - Good Times.

Hey, what can I say? Dynomite! I recently purchased this set and enjoyed it so much I got season three as a Christmas gift. I already owned season one. This is still before John Amos left the series and it was at its peak. JJ rules! I dare you NOT to laugh while watching these shows. John Amos and Esther Rolle will have you laughing too. All the cast is great.

Great TV Show 5 out of 5 stars.

Great TV Show. Loved this show and bought season 1,2,3 Loved John Amos role in this show but it was not the same after He left. Shows today could take a lesson on good family entertainment like this show. Jimmy Walker (JJ) was a great actor and comedian. The show dealt with hard times growing up in the projects but as hard as it was the Evans household hung in and took care of each other and dealt with all the problems that came as a family.

Real Issues 4 out of 5 stars.

i FOUND THIS SERIES TOO BE ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS, LOVED WATCHING IT. THE BEST OF THE SERIES IS THAT THEY TOUCHED ON ALL ISSUES THAT EVERYONE CAN RELATE TOO AND THAT WERE REAL ISSUES THAT ANYONE WATCHING CAN SAY YES I KNOW HOW THAT FEELS OR I'VE BEEN THROUGH THAT. BEST OF ALL THERE A REAL FAMILY WITH THERE UP'S AND DOWN'S.
