Little disappointed 3 out of 5 stars.

I got the 6th season of Everybody Loves Raymond for my husband, and it arrived in good time and well packaged. However, as we were watching some of the episodes, it had some glitches in it.

Great season, but I found a strange editing item... 4 out of 5 stars.

I'm a huge fan of this show, and I bought the full series box set. I haven't bought the seasons individually as they were released, so I'm curious about the episode "No Roll!" in season 6 (the one where Ray buys the board game to play with Debra). In the series box set, in this episode, as they're playing Sensuopoly on their bed, Debra rolls the dice and lands on a square that tells her to "kiss your lover as though he going to climb Mount Everest". HUH??? In the original episode she says "kiss your lover as though he's going off to war". Why on earth did the production company change the words? You can clearly see the words don't match her lips!

I'm wondering if the individually-released season 6 DVD has this editing cut as well? I just can't imagine why they couldn't keep the same words in there. I realize this is from 2001, after 9/11, but it still doesn't make sense. They were playing a board game!

Otherwise, the series box set is amazing.

Emergency really hit home with me when I was a kid because my Dad is a fireman/paramedic. It always made me feel like I could share a part of my Dad's work life because he was very quiet, at least around me, about the things that happened at work. As an adult, with a sister who is now in the department, watching this show is kinda funny because of how advanced we have become. (No longer are there separate ambulances that come to transport the patient to the hospital.) The scenery/costuming, etc. is also neat to me because it is so 70's. The fx are cheesy because, again as an adult, I can tell it's not real, but to my eyes as a child, it was as real as could be. The actors, specifically Randolph Mantooth and Kevin Tighe, have great chemistry and worked well together. Keeping in mind that the show was set in the era of sex, drugs and rock n'roll, it's a really good show. Has some comedy and lots of drama/action. Anyone who likes the actors or anything to do with the fire department will most likely enjoy this series.

Editorial Review:

Rush to the scene of danger with all 22 episodes of Emergency! - Season Four in a collectible five-disc set. This gripping series follows paramedics Roy DeSoto (Kevin Tighe) and John Gage (Randolph Mantooth), Nurse Dixie McCall (Golden Globe® nominee Julie London) and the heroic staff of Rampart General Hospital as they make life-and-death decisions and respond to LA's most dire emergency calls. The TV show that broke new ground for all action series to come is more enthralling than ever on DVD!

The Extras special is extra special 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The modern obsession with fame was explored by writers Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant in The Office in the form of David Brent, a middle manager who made an idiot of himself on a BBC documentary series and then paid for it by losing his job and spending nights making appearances at nightclubs in front of people who couldn't care less about him.

In Extras, Gervais and Merchant returned to the celebrity theme as Andy Millman, the character played by Gervais, discovered that the perks attached to starring in the very popular, albeit extremely lowbrow, comedy, When the Whistle Blows, made it difficult for him to commit to his oft-expressed desire for artistic integrity.

Extras: The Extra Special Series Finale starts with Andy sitting alone on a couch in the Celebrity Big Brother house as the other housemates bicker like emotionally illiterate cretins behind him. This brief scene reveals that when it comes to the conflict between fame and integrity the former is going to win out for Andy at some point during this chapter of Extras.

Gervais convincingly portrays Andy's frustration at his comedic lot and also his desperation when his star fades after he pulls the plug on When the Whistle Blows. "No, I told you a thousand times, I'm not going to play an alien in Dr Who", he asserts to his agent post-Whistle, but in the next scene he's playing an alien in Dr Who.

Andy's progressively more abrasive personality most movingly affects his relationship with his only friend, Maggie (a superb Ashley Jensen).

Maggie's life goes into freefall after she gives up supporting artist work after being degraded by one of her favourite actors on the set of a film about Lord Byron. Clive Owen does an uncomfortably amusing turn as the sexy bastard who insults Maggie.

Andy complains a lot about having to do awful television programs such as Hotel Babylon, but his financially comfortable situation is contrasted with Maggie's dire plight.

Maggie ends up residing in a shabby little flat and vacuuming floors, cleaning toilets and washing dishes for a living. There are some beautifully humorous scenes between Andy and Maggie, including one involving a mud pack and a girdle, that serve to let the viewer know their friendship can be solid, even though it's had its ups and downs, as all meaningful relationships do.

Merchant and Shaun Williamson (aka Barry from EastEnders) are again a terrific double act as the useless agent and his unemployable client, while Shaun Lye, Andy's rival and the man whose parents bought him a house when he was a struggling actor, is deliciously smug as the now successful Greg Lindley Jones.

Gervais and Merchant allow their protagonists to have many and diverse flaws, including jealousy, pettiness, incompetence, stubbornness, stupidity, and arrogance, however, central characters like Andy and Merchant's Darren Lamb are redeemed by traits like vulnerability, loyalty, and sensitivity.

In other words, Gervais and Merchant allow their characters to be human.

It could be argued that Andy's antagonism towards Big Brother and its gathering of "desperate people" (the housemates are, among others, a former contestant on The X Factor and a mother who's well-known because her son was murdered) is undermined by the fact that Gervais watches the show and has discussed episodes of it on his blog.

Although some viewers might think Gervais and Merchant aren't playing it enough for big laughs in Extras: The Extra Special Series Finale, the well-balanced mix of pathos, drama and comedy makes the program brilliant indeed.

Note - Fans of Karl Pilkington should look out for the bald one playing a fickle fan.

Editorial Review:

HBO presents the finale of its Emmy® Award-winning comedy series written and directed by British phenomenon Ricky Gervais, founder of BBCs original The Office. Gervais reprises his Emmy®-winning role as Andy Millman, the one time extra and current sitcom star whose breakthrough show, When the Whistle Blows, remains a popular (if critically panned) part of British TV culture. Chafing from three seasons worth of recycled plotlines and catchphrases, Andy wants more than ever to break out of his TV stereotype, and is willing to do anything including maybe even pulling the plug on his hit show to do it. But does Andy have the talent and savvy it takes to get his wish: to be both respected and famous?

Editorial Review:

Meet Andy Millman, Actor. Never forgets his lines because he never gets any. Andy (Ricky Gervais) is a desperate man. He's been an actor for five years but thanks to his useless agent (Stephen Merchant), he?s never done any real acting. Instead, he?s a lowly film extra, making his mark in the background while the stars do their work. His partner in arms is the pitiable Maggie, a fellow extra and a hopeless romantic. Andy may be an extra, but he?s a star in his own right. Too bad nobody else agrees.

The Show is GREAT, but the DVD is not 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The episodes were very good, but the quality of the picture and sound, while not nearly as bad as season 4's, were not as good as seasons 1&2. I had to return this set, because disc 3 was defective, and would not even play. Amazon was good and quick getting a replacement sent. I hope season 5 will be a lot better.

i love it 5 out of 5 stars.

The quality of the DVD is pretty good. I was told that the sound quality was poor, but I cannot confirm that.
All in all I am higly satisfied and can hardly await the remaining seasons to be released on DVD

Fantastic Series!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Editorial Review:

A science-fiction series with an ecological theme, EARTH 2 only ran for one season on NBC, and all 22 episodes of the program are collected here. In the distant future, the surface of the Earth has been largely destroyed, and mankind lives in space stations orbiting the planet. A group of space colonists, led by Devon Adair (Debrah Farentino) and John Danzinger (Clancy Brown), are sent to a far off planet to prepare it for colonization by the surviving population of Earth. But a mishap sends them careening off-course, crash landing thousands of miles from the proper camp site. EARTH 2 follows the band of colonists as they traverse the planet, encountering dangerous aliens and other humans who view them with distrust and suspicion. By tackling issues like ecology and colonization, EARTH 2 engages important ideas and themes in an entertaining fashion.

Oh How The Mighty Have Fallen 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I should first say that I am a huge fan of "The Office" and Season 1 of Extras. Season 2 however shows the creators as having nothing much more to say. Their mean spirited nothingness is eerily reminiscent of the demise of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" where the goal seemed more to push the ugliness envelope than to actually provide laughs. If a joke is funny, there is no topic out of bounds. Here the comedy is missing so all that remains are the same tired parlor games of season 1. Celebrities are jerks / fame is difficult, and the disabled or freaks are fodder for amusement. They spin this within the commentary but it remains a glaring deficit upon their work.
In this world of diminished quality it is heartbreaking when great workers fail and this DVD is testament to the limits of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Season 1 and the Movie (Part 3) would have left a mystery as to their abilities, but "Extras" Part 2 seems an inside joke which speaks volumes about how success kills comedy. Like "Curb", misanthropy misapplied is nothing to laugh at.

What happens when an unknown actor who can't catch a break actually catches one? For Andy Millman, who's just broken through with a TV sitcom called When the Whistle Blows, celebrity doesn't necessarily mean happiness - it just means your follies and fauxes-pas get that much more attention. An Ed for All Seasons 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

By season 2, the Eds had reached their stride. The animation is assured, the voice actors have grown into their roles, and the writing is solid. Although this set contains a few of my all-time favorite episodes, there really isn't a clunker among them, and how many TV shows can say that, animated or otherwise? Add to that the oh-so-weird, yet oh-so-wonderful music video for "I'm Not Coming In [Anymore]" (identified on the disc as "I'm Not Coming In Today"), and you have a perfect product. As the Eds would say, "Season 3, please!"

Editorial Review:

This 2-disc set includes all 13 full-length episodes from the Eds' scam-tastic second season, plus tons of bonus special features -- like a behind-the-scenes documentary, lessons on how to draw Ed, a music video and more.

"Ed, Edd, n Eddy" in my opinion was the greatest cartoon I have ever seen on Cartoon Network. A lot of concepts came from the contributions of "The Three Stooges," "Pink Panther" and great films and put those concepts in a more appropriate fashion. That was how I saw the cartoon.

I am not sure if the final season will air on Cartoon Network, but this could be the only show to have a special ten year anniversary after all of the years, cheers, and tears. I will never forget "Ed, Edd, n Eddy." Never. The first season was the best, but what will the last season hold when it gets released?
