The greatest cliffhanger ever? 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Season Three of the long-running primetime soap opera Dallas featured quite possibly one of the busiest television seasons ever and featured what is called the greatest cliffhanger in television history in the final episode.

Of course throughout its run, Dallas was known for having great cliffhangers, but in season three, the writers and producers really hit the nail on the head. To someone who was watching the show in 1980, the final scene of the final episode of season three probably came as quite a shock. I knew what was going to happen and I was still a little taken aback. That's what great television is all about.

And season three completely plays up to that moment right from the start. With all the lying and cheating and backstabbing that take place, the writers are building viewers up so that when the big moment happens, it seems justified, yet at the same time, still comes as a shock.

The shooting of Ewing Oil president JR Ewing (Larry Hagman) created quite a buzz in the television world and when it was revealed who shot him near the beginning of season four, that episode ranked as one of the top-rated television shows of all time. But surely just about everybody would say that JR deserved the bullets.

In the age of the Internet and all other forms of information, even though I have never seen an episode of Dallas beyond the first three seasons on DVD, I know who shot JR, but I still will buy season four and get the inside track on just what he or she was thinking when pulling the trigger.

Season three certainly ran the gamut of emotions, with no time to stop and catch your breath. It began with the two part story about the kidnapping of JR and Sue Ellen's (Linda Gray) baby, John Ross Ewing III. With suspects aplenty, the Ewing Oil magnate's first thought turns to his brother in law, Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval) who may or may not be the baby's father.

When the youngster is finally returned to the family, Sue Ellen becomes cold and detached from the child, while Pamela Barnes Ewing (Victoria Principal) grows attached to the child after losing a baby of her own in a horseback riding accident. Sue Ellen continues to grow detached from John Ross and an affair with Dusty Farlow, who's family would come to play a huge part in future seasons, and trips to see a psychiatrist just estrange her more. As the season ends, the entire Ewing family is concerned about Sue Ellen's drinking and JR is ready to commit her to the sanitarium, much like he did in season two.

Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Pamela Ewing have an up and down season, as they lose a baby and also have to deal with the fallout between her brother Cliff and the Ewing family. After Pamela loses the baby, she grows very attached to John Ross, which upsets Bobby as he wants to have a baby of his own. But unbeknownst to him, Pamela is scared that a disease she may carry could affect her child. She goes on a search for her mother when it is revealed that her father Digger is not really her father. As the season winds down, Bobby and Pamela are leaving Southfork after another of JR's schemes pushes Bobby over the edge.

Ewing matriarch Miss Ellie Ewing (Barbara Bel Geddes) faces a battle with breast cancer, which forces her to get a masectomy. She keeps everything to herself as she is afraid that the change in her life will stop her husband Jock (Jim Davis) from loving her. Jock also faces a tough fight from Miss Ellie when it is revealed that he was married before he met her and divorced his wife when she developed mental problems. Jock, JR, Bobby and ranch foreman Ray Krebbs (Steve Kanaly) go on a hunting trip that finds them being shot at and JR and Jock's lives at stake thanks to Jock's business tactics many years earlier when he still ran Ewing Oil.

Young Lucy Ewing (Charlene Tilton) is enrolled at college and starts dating a lawyer named Alan Beam (guest star Randolph Powell) who JR is using to set up Cliff Barnes. Lucy dates the young man mainly because she thinks JR hates him, but secretly, he and JR are working together to get Cliff out of the Office of Land Management. They become engaged as JR hatches a plot to get Lucy out of Dallas for good, but his plan backfires when Jock gets Alan a job in Dallas. Lucy also gets to spend time with her parents, Gary (Ted Shackleford) and Valene (Joan Van Ark) who also spin off into their own prime time soap opera Knot's Landing, during this season.

And of course JR. His biggest storyline of the season is his mortgaging of Southfork to finance oil wells in Asia, wells which strike it rich and become a boon for Ewing Oil. But nationalization of the Asian wells sends JR scrambling to sell off most of his shares to his "Business partners," who in turn are dealt a staggering loss, giving any of them a motive to shoot him in the finale. He also has an affair with his wife's sister Kristin (guest star Mary Crosby), who plots with Alan Beam for revenge, giving both of them, as well as Sue Ellen, who he is planning on sending to a sanitarium, a motive to shoot him. It seems JR had a lot of enemies. No wonder the ratings were so high for the who done it show.

As for extras, this set has a couple of good commentaries with Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy, including on the "A House Divided" episode, the final cliffhanger at the end of the season. There is also a featurette on the show and its popularity, particularly in dealing with the cliffhanger of JR being shot.

All told, this was a great follow-up to a solid releas of the first two seasons. I never watched this show on television, mainly because I was too young, but I am thoroughly enjoying the episodes on DVD.

Editorial Review:

The series that invented the season cliffhanger and left the world guessing "Who Shot JR?", is now available in this special 5-disc collector's set. Relive the drama, intrigue and deception of TV's most watched event of the 80's, complete with all 25 season three episodes and never-before-seen special features. Dallas recounts the tale of Texas sons and daughters whose lives revolve around oil, family and power. And Larry Hagman portrays petroleum magnate J.R. Ewing, whose pursuit of, in no particular order, money and clout knows no limits.

Editorial Review:

Kevin Williamson (the Scream movie series, I Know What You Did Last Summer) created this engaging drama, which chronicles a group of young friends' passage from adolescence to young adulthood in the small coastal town of Capeside, Massachusetts. Based on Williamson's own experiences growing up, "Dawson's Creek" focuses on fifteen-year-olds Dawson (James Van Der Beek) and Joey (Katie Holmes), who have been friends since they were five and are trying to cope with the way their friendship is changing now that their hormones are raging. Add to the mix their friend Pacey (Joshua Jackson) and the new girl in town, Jen (Michelle Williams), and you can count on extra twists to the drama in their already turbulent lives.

Filmed on location in Wilmington, Durham, and Raleigh, North Carolina, this first season marks the beginning of an unforgettable journey that explores the agony and the ecstasy of teenage life. Can the kids of "Dawson’s Creek" really grow up without growing apart? Watch and find out! Starring James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Michelle Williams, Joshua Jackson, and Oliver Hudson.

Good stuff 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I am writing this assuming there will be a lot of negative reviews. It is not for the Bible belt mentality. It is crude, rude, blasphemous, dirty, sexual, and f u n n y! So many things that only make sense to a specific generation! I love it. If you don't, why did you buy it or even watch more than two minutes of it?

It dosent get any better than this. 5 out of 5 stars.

Just when you thought that it could get any better after the second season, the third season drops in and proves you wrong big-time!
After the two first episodes you realize that this time you don't even get a pause to breathe, the jokes and insults are like shot out of a Gatling leaving you on the floor laughing you head of.
Even though a little shorter with fewer episodes, the third season truly makes up for it with high class humor.
If you liked the two first season, as always you are going to love this one as well. If you are new to Drawn Together and like raw, adult humor I strongly recommend you give the show a chance.
All three seasons are pure gold if you ask me.

Editorial Review:

All the blood, puke and boobs you love are back for the third and final season of Drawn Together. The dirtiest, deadliest, sexiest, and funkiest Drawn Together season ever features MORE animated blood, MORE animated vomit, and MORE animated nipples. Watch as Captain Hero tortures his 12-year-old self, Ling Ling gets put into foster care and Toot finally gets worshipped as the cow she is. It's what happens when cartoon characters stop being real and start being animated.

I have an 11yr old Grandson and a 2 yr old Granddaughter, and they both have never seen this series before and I am glad the both of them can get to see it. Now my Granddaughter is repeating NOT THE MOMMA and enjoys watching it when she comes over. They both love it.

Editorial Review:

They're huge. They’re pre-hysterical. The Sinclairs are back in their final two seasons of Earth-shaking fun as they face the challenges of everyday life in sixty million and three BC. Baby turns two – and into a total terror. Daddy Earl confronts his "diaperphobia." Charlene’s theory that the world is round lands her in scholastic hot water. Robbie deals with overwhelming pubescent urges, and in the final controversial episode, the family’s jumpin' Jurassic lifestyle gets the big chill. The brainosauraus of Jim Henson, the award-winning comedy series brings state-of-the-art puppetry and audioanimatronics to the screen -- and a whole new meaning to the words "family fun." Add Seasons 3 and 4 to your collection of evolutionary entertainment – and get ready to rock your funny bones. Includes featurette "I'm the Baby, Gotta Love Me," with music video located at the end of episode five.

JR is a legend !! 5 out of 5 stars.

I thought Dallas season 8 was great i even shed a tear when Bobby died in the final episode. I cant wait for my next dose of Dallas Season 9 to arrive so we can sit down with our bourbon and branch to watch JR in action!!

Editorial Review:

Dallas fans just can’t get enough of the Ewings. So Season 8 brings a new one – cousin Jamie Ewing, a blonde, blue-eyed little ol’ cupcake with a big, fat claim on the oil empire. And it brings a new face: Oscar® Academy Award winner* Donna Reed stepping gracefully into Miss Ellie’s high heels while an ailing Barbara Bel Geddes recovers. And, of course, it brings a gusher of high-tension, high-finance drama: three corpses, one murder trial, weddings, breakups, adultery, medical traumas, kidnapping, lies, long-forgotten secrets and sudden wealth. That’s not all, not by a Texas Longhorn shot. The season ends with that dynamic Dallas classic, a wow-did-you-see-that cliffhanger.

Chase's Review 5 out of 5 stars.

I like this series because it has my favorite car the 1969 Dodge Charger and because they race a lot in it and it has some action like blowing out houses up. Here is a little summery about it Bo and Luke Duke, two cousins living in an unincorporated area of the fictional Hazzard County, Gerogia, racing around in their modified 1969 Dodge Charger, the Genral Lee evading corrupt Boss Hogg and his inept county sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane Bo and Luke had been sentenced to probation for illegal transportation of moonshine- Uncle Jesse usually made the run, but had fallen ill, and on the very occasion that Bo and Luke had taken his place, they were caught. Jesse made a plea bargain to stop brewing moonshine in return for the boys to forgo jail time and instead be placed on probation.

If I give this series a rateing I would give it a 10. If you like this series you will like The Waltons.

Editorial Review:

Join Luke and Bo Duke--a couple of good old boys--and their cousin Daisy Duke as they stay just ahead of the sheriff in their souped-up 1969 Dodge Charger, The General Lee, and have fun thwarting the plots of the corrupt county boss.

One of the good ones 4 out of 5 stars.

I loved Dawson's Creek - The Complete Second Season was one of the best seasons that they had made. In this season the way that they portray the relationship issues and how it effects everyone that is involved is perfection. When I watched this I stayd attached to it because it was like I was watching a movie about my life and I was amazed about how that played out. I think that the directors had guts to put in what they did for the 90's.

I love this show but... 4 out of 5 stars.

I love this show this is why I bought the DVD but why did they change the music. They even got rid of the Paula Cole song for the opening. I understand it was for some legal reasons, but they still play the original version of the show on the TV reruns. I don't get it. It even makes some of the scenes feel different because of the altered music. Ugggggg!

Editorial Review:

The saga continues in this thought-provoking second season. Set in Capeside, a small coastal town near Boston, "Dawson's Creek" tells the story of five teenagers struggling through adolesence. Dawson Leary (James Van Der Beek) and introspective dreamer, and Joey Potter (Katie Holmes) a precocious tomboy unaware of her beauty, have been best friends since childhood. Pals Jennifer (Michelle Williams), Pacey (Joshua Jackson), and Jack (Kerr Smith) join them as they live, love and learn.

My first Doctor Who episode ever.... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This was the first Doctor Who serial/episode/feature I ever saw. I really didn't know what to expect, but the local PBS station (WTTW in Chicago) used to have a British night when they would show Monty Python, Dave Allen, and Doctor Who for 2 1/2 hours on Sunday night. So I watched this. Even though I didn't really understand everything, I found it fascinating. I was hooked, and have been a Doctor Who fan ever since.

This is probably not the greatest place to start on Doctor Who. This episode requires you know a little about the series before it starts. The TARDIS isn't in this one. for example. The Doctor and his companions are intercepted by a transmat beam by the Time Lords. They send the Doctor, Sarah, and Harry back to Skaro, the home of the Daleks. There is a civil war between the Thaals and the Kaleds that has raged for a 1000 years. The Doctor is assigned to alter the genetic development (or kill) the Dalek race, because they have become far too powerful in the universe and the Time Lords are concerned about this (even though the Time Lords are supposed to be "neutral" in these matters).

While this episode's special effects are questionable (they always were in the early years of Doctor Who), the writing and acting is exemplary. It's an intelligent, thoughtful, and fascinating episode that really gets better when you learn more about the Daleks and Doctor Who folklore. It's one of Tom Baker's best episodes (only his fourth), and one of the better Dalek adventures, far superior to Baker's later (and somewhat boring) Destiny of the Daleks.

I find that I like the older Doctor Whos better than the recent series. David Tennant (the current Doctor) is excellent, but too often the series is given over to special effects instead of people. The writing isn't as sharp, and the series seems a bit hollow. Regardless, this is one of Baker's best ones, and a must for any Doctor Who fan.

Editorial Review:

The Time Lords send the Doctor (Tom Baker), Sarah Jane and Harry on a daunting mission to the Daleks' home planet.
