Salem here we come!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 14 people found this review helpful.

Hey everyone the 28 episodes of Bewitched Season 7 is coming to us this February. This includes the Salem Saga episodes, everybody's favorite Christmas episode from Bewitched "Sisters at Heart", and "Sam's Old Man".

The Seventh Season begins with "To Go or Not to Go that is the Question". This is the Episode where Hepzibah demands that Sam come to the witches council which is held every one hundred years in Salem and finally in Part 2 Endora convinces Hepzibah to allow Darrin to go. The Salem Saga begins with the third episode of the 7th Season and continues for 6 episodes.

Also in the 7th season we see more of Esmeralda up to her fading magic and we see Sam's egotistical former boyfriend who turns himself into a dog. Two of the best episodes from Season 7 are "Samantha's Old Man" where Endora turns Darrin into a 73 year old man and the best Christmas episode Bewitched had during it's 8 year run "Sisters at Heart", and that dealt with racism. That episode was written by a tenth grade class at Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles, California.

Other classic episodes are "Mother-in-Law of the Year" and the special effects in the episode are amazing. We see Samantha playing the tooth fairy in the 14th episode which includes two parts in "Mary the Good Fairy", which guest stars the all time hilarious Imaogene Coca. This season also is the last season to feature Uncle Arthur, and he makes his final appearance in "The House That Uncle Arthur Built". He leaves all his practical jokes at Sam and Darrin's to impress his new girlfriend, but soon realizes if she doesn't love him for him she isn't worth it.

One of the wildest episodes from Season 7 is where Sam and Darrin and Larry and Louise all trade places. Dr. Bombay is called in to fix the problem. Other episodes include "Darrin Goes Ape", "Money Happy Returns", Sam's Psychic Pslip", and "Samantha's Magic Mirror". In the later episode she tries to boast Esmeralda's confidence by helping her with her former boyfriend so each time she looks in the mirror she sees a gorgeous woman.

The majority of people who are Bewitched fans say out of the Dick Sargent years, that Season 7 is their favorite season with him. It is also one of my favorite seasons too. The Salem trip and the Christmas episode are some of the best that the show offered in it's 8 season run. So Bewitched fans get ready for Season 7 on February 3, 2009.

Note: During the hiatus period of season 6 & season 7 a fire destroyed the set of kitchen, so William Asher producer of the show and Elizabeth's husband at that time decided to take the show to film many scenes in Salem. The entire cast and crew were there and I think that's why everyone is so anxious for this special season.

Editorial Review:

Samantha, a powerful member of the society of witches that has lived apart from (and disdained) humanity for many centuries, falls in love with a mortal, Darrin Stephens. Much to the disgust of most of her family, she vows to give up witchcraft and become an ordinary suburban housewife, raising a family (bearing Tabitha and Adam). Never able to give up her heritage completely, the friction between the matriarchal, moneyless society of her birth and the patriarchal, capitalist society of modern advertising drives the comedy over eight seasons and 256 episodes, from 1964 to 1971.

Wonderful! Have you checked out the comic books? 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm a big Buffy and Angel fan, so 5 stars goes without saying. But have you checked out the comic books? Finally season 8 by Joss Whedon!

Buffy Season 5 5 out of 5 stars.

I love this series, I like season five. Glory is a great villian, but so far season six is the all time best!!!

"We will bring you the limp and beaten body of Bob Barker" 5 out of 5 stars.

RELAX...the quote in my review title is straight from Season Five. No actual Bob Barker was harmed during the filming of this review.

As Season Five opens, this show had safely made the full transition from Sunnydale High to the college years, and instead of getting entrenched in "Buffy Hills 90210" petty collegiate fluff, it headed straight into death, loss, and gut-wrenching emotions.

As a season-long central villain, Glory mixes the every-hair-in-place diva obsession of Cordelia with the twisted and consistently disturbing psyche of Drusilla (who returns to find her ex-lover Spike "tired of playing" her kind of games). Glory's "minions" provide fawning comic relief in an otherwise heavy season (one of them is the source of the quote mentioned above). Think "Smithers" from "The Simpsons" in little ogre bodies.

The new "central hub" for meetings is Giles' new business venture, the magic shop. After witnessing the death of the store's umpteenth owner, he sees profit in his future, buys the store, and hires Anya as his cashier (more comic relief). Naturally, it also becomes a favorite visiting place of demons with heavy blunt objects, who inflict thousands of dollars worth of damage on the store and its merchandise as the season progresses.

There's some closure with the characters of Riley and Buffy's mom (hence much of the season's dire weight), as well as the show's writers filling in the blanks on the mystery / backstory of Buffy's little sister Dawn (and her link to Glory).

It would have been extremely easy for the show's creators to play it safe in Season Five by establishing a formula and cranking out tiresome episode after episode. They chose to do the opposite...to take some big risks, to pull out some major surprises, to defy expectations.

There's a significant emphasis on Spike in Season Five, culminating in a "spoiler moment" that comes at the end of Episode 18, "Intervention." As actor James Marsters has mentioned on a number of occasion, Whedon's original plan for the character was to kill him off after his initial appearance. Luckily for the series, they took a sharp left turn and decided to develop Spike into one of the show's most memorable characters.

In the Season Four box set, there's some discussion of the episode "Hush." Apparently someone told creator Joss Whedon that THE reason for the show's success...the SINGLE REASON...was the dialogue between Buffy and the other characters, the verbal interplay. It was shortly after receiving that feedback that Whedon decided to craft an episode that was completely silent after the first few minutes.

I've got to believe that a similar desire to defy expectations and "think outside of the box" went into the production of this season.

I miss Dick York and Alice Pearce but I still love this series. The only complaint is that they repeat alot of season one story lines.

Positive Perspective on Beauty and the Beast The Boxed Set 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I was completely captivated by the 1980s television series Beauty and the Beast which is a touching love story about a man and a woman from different worlds, set in New York City. Catherine Chandler (Beauty) is an attorney, who has grown up in privileged luxury, and Vincent (The Beast) is a man with terrifying feline facial features who lives in a forgotten world of tunnels and caves far below the city. Together, these 2 lovers deal with ancient moral issues which are still important today, handle personal crises in their relationship arising from the differences between their worlds, and fight crime and face dangerous perils in both worlds.

This boxed set of 16 DVDs, containing all 3 seasons--a total of 55 episodes, are digitally remastered, and have restored this fabulous story to modern crystal clarity. The series is a wonderful study in how to develop a lasting relationship. The theme is, "Don't be selfish!" Don't demand that your partner be responsible for your happiness. Do make every effort to make him or her happy, even if you need to make sacrifices to do so. Don't think of your partner as a project which needs constant improvement. I know I am not the only person out there who is sick to death of "one night stands" and "casual sex" being passed off as genuine love and satisfying passion. Those are very poor counterfeits for the real thing, and this fabulous series portrays the real thing in rich romantic majesty.

In this boxed set, Seasons 1 and 2 are identical to the already released individual seasons of the series. For those who are not familiar with them, Season 1 contains 6 disks with 22 episodes. Season 2 contains 6 disks with 22 episodes as well, but it also has the addition of wonderful commentaries by Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton. The difference is in the Season 3 set of disks. The individual Season 3 has only 3 disks with 11 episodes. In this boxed set there are 4 disks in the 3rd season set.

The 4th disk of the 3rd season contains approximately 1 ½ hours of very nice extras for series addicts. There is an interactive section of "Vincent's Journey" through the tunnels to rescue Catherine requiring answers to questions from the series episodes to continue the journey. I have a very simple DVD player and was able to easily participate in that fun memory exercise. There is also a section containing 4 of Vincent's original love letters to Catherine in Vincent's voice and then 8 "Newly Reconstructed" letters from the series episodes. Finally, there are original promotional previews shown on network television in the late 1980s before the 1st airing of 13 episodes.

My complaints with this set are few. I and many other fans HATE the Vincent artwork on the outer box! If you have never viewed the series before, please be assured, that is NOT VINCENT! Vincent's majestic feline features are completely lost in that poorly rendered profile image. I was happy to see that on the packaging inside, the original artwork from the 3 individual seasons was used on each cover. I was also disappointed that it was neither Ron Perlman's nor his "Vincent" voice that was used to record the newly reconstructed love letters. The only way they are better is due to the deletion of the script running across the same reused scenes from the series. Instead, the appropriate episode scenes are used for each letter without the distraction of the written script. The man who did the reading does have a sexy bass voice, but it isn't Vincent's voice. Still, this entire series always feeds my soul, so this boxed set is still a bargain and a great gift for those who ache for true romance.

Because of my love of Beauty and the Beast, I wrote a 500 plus page sequel novel which was completed and published in May of 2008 entitled Love's Journey to Awakening--Beauty and the Beast--Happily Ever After. It was edited by Dr. Thayle K. Anderson, an English professor emeritus, from Murray State University. He is a trusted friend, and a colleague of my beloved late husband, Dr. Gary L. Haws, who was my "Vincent."

My book has a very specific target audience, those who love this series starring Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton, and hate its premature demise with its tragic ending. My book fixes that. It doesn't change the ending. It begins where the series ends and changes the outcome, so it has an happy ending and perhaps a new beginning for more stories about these beloved characters.

If that idea appeals to you, it is essential that you watch all 3 seasons before reading my book. Even if you saw them when they first aired almost 20 years ago, you really need to review and watch them again in order to fully understand and appreciate my book. I never get tired of watching them, and I hope that you will enjoy seeing these characters come back to life with a new story line.

The questions from the series that my novel answers are:
1. Is Catherine Chandler (Beauty) really dead?
2. Where did Vincent (the Beast) really come from?
3. Can there be an happy ending to a modern day fairytale that starts out, "Once Upon a Time in the City of New York?"

Buy this boxed set containing all three seasons of the series. Then visit my website, where you can download a free copy of my entire novel. My website link can be accessed at kandycain1587 "My World" on eBay, on my profile page here on Amazon under Karen L. Haws, or by using any Internet search engine under title or author. The timeline and characters are very precious to me, and I was very careful with them. I hope that you will enjoy reading my book as much as I enjoyed writing it. Laurel Cain Haws

"Man, this cell is out of tune..." 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is one of the finest television shows ever written. Having grown up in the 70s and 80s, I remember when it originally aired, although I was too young to really appreciate it then, and did not understand much of the humor. When I was older, and would watch it in syndication, I began to see why it had been so popular.
The writing was witty and dry, occasionally bordering on slapstick. All the characters were great, and worked very well as a comedy team. Just seeing them now is sort of like seeing old friends.
Even the squad room set feels like a familiar place.
When I get to talking with girls around my age, and the subject of TV shows comes up, I mention that I love Barney Miller and often get the same response; "Oh, my dad used to love that show..."
Perhaps more guys like it than women, due to the mostly male cast, but I digress.
The show still holds up as being funny today, and does not really seem dated, despite how wide the ties are ;-)

Editorial Review:

Barney Miller is the kind of cop we'd all like to meet. He somehow manages to maintain order over a group of inner-city detectives who gamble for a hobby, get hit on by anything in skirts, go to renaissance philosophy conventions for fun, and would really prefer to be writing. Stars Hal Linden, Abe Vigoda and more! Two-disc set includes all 13 episodes from the first season.

Editorial Review:

With its campy combination of lightweight adventure and Spandex disco chic, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century is a nostalgic throwback to post-Star Wars opportunism. Series co-creator Glen A. Larson was incapable of originality, and former soap star Gil Gerard (in the title role) was a bland incarnation of the comic-strip hero, so the much-anticipated series premiered on September 20, 1979, with serious disadvantages. Although the two-hour pilot "Awakening" had tested successfully as a theatrical release, Gerard and the show's producers could never agree on a stable tone for the series, which presents Capt. William "Buck" Rogers as a jovial space cowboy who is accidentally time-warped from 1987 to 2491. Earth is engaged in interplanetary war following a global holocaust, and Buck's piloting skills make him an ideal starfighter recruit for the Earth Defense Directorate, where his closest colleagues are Dr. Huer (Tim O'Connor), squadron leader Col. Wilma Deering (former model Erin Gray, looking oh-so-foxy), the wisecracking robot Twiki (voiced by cartoon legend Mel Blanc), and a portable computer-brain named Dr. Theopolis, who's carried by Twiki like oversized bling-bling.

The series struggled through an awkward first season, with routine plots elevated by decent special effects and noteworthy guest stars including Jamie Lee Curtis, ill-fated Playboy Playmate Dorothy Stratten (appearing, with her voice dubbed over, less than a year before her tragic murder), Batman alumnus Julie Newmar, Buster Crabbe (veteran of vintage Buck Rogers movie serials), and several others in a show that favored vamps and vixens over credible science fiction. A full-scale overhaul resulted in a disastrous second season, but devoted fans still gravitate to Hawk (Thom Christopher), the charismatic alien "birdman" who was introduced with new characters and a new, space-faring search for lost tribes from Earth (with echoes of Larson's own Battlestar Galactica). Behind-the-scenes squabbles continued, and by mid-season of 1981, NBC pulled the plug on a breezy, still-engaging series that suffered from uneasy chemistry and never realized its full potential. Existing somewhere between Galactica and Lost in Space in the TV sci-fi food chain, this Buck--with a dearth of DVD extras--now functions as a cheesy stroll down memory lane. --Jeff Shannon

An incomplete time capsule 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I was 12 when "Beverly Hills, 90210" premiered. The show and it's actors quickly became my whole life. The show was a barometer of current events, fashion, the political climate (hence Brandon Walsh's visit to Washington, DC to meet Bill Clinton)..if it was happening at the time, it was on "90210". Especially the music. WHERE THE HELL IS THE MUSIC??? A huge part of the landscape in the late 1980's-early 1990's was the music-pop, hip-hop, New Jack Swing, and the beginning of the grunge era- and how it's influence spilled over into fashion, language, etc. Yet CBS apparently thought that to the fans of the show, any DVD, even one with horrible public domain music, was better than no DVD at all. All those scenes at the Peach Pit, with Jeremy Jordan, Color Me Badd, Shanice, Brian McKnight playing on the jukebox? You'll have to suffer through cheesy imitation-doo-wop instead. Brenda's breakup with Dylan? Remember how she listened to REM's "Losing My Religion" over and over because it was playing in his car? You'll have to remember it, because it's not here. The difference is even move glaringly obvious in this season as David gets a piano and entertains the gang with some popular tunes. Instead of the footage aired, some grainy cutting-room floor footage was used, with music straight out of a player piano or nickelodeon. My gripe with the DVDs is with this series in general, not with this specific boxed set. Overall, the picture, sound quality, and special features are good, and there are even a few commentaries that are particularly entertaining. But as one who likes to look back and reminisce on my younger years, and how "90210" fit into that, something's not just missing...it's been rewritten.

Editorial Review:

The ensemble drama about young adults growing up in Beverly Hills is a blend of romantic drama and subject matter that crosses all cultural boundaries. The storyline has followed the Walsh family as they moved from a middle-class Midwestern neighborhood to wealthy and glamorous Beverly Hills, maturing from high school to college students, facing new challenges as they continue to grow and discover more about themselves and their personal ambitions. As their worlds evolve, old friendships will be tested as new relationships develop, but no matter how complicated their worlds become, they will always share in their strengths and experiences.

Buffy's Darkest Season 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This might be the strangest season of Buffy. The villains for most of the season are bumbling idiots (despite the fact that they're super-geniuses with demonology, magic, and robotics). This is the only season where the greatest challenges the Scooby Gang must face don't actually come from the "Big Bad." Instead, most of the serious problems that arise are a result of internal conflict. This is even true of the battle at the end of the season. Even though the crisis is set in motion by Warren of the Trio, the conflict is between members of the gang.

Without giving too much away, this season features the total loss of innocence for all of the main characters. This season is depressing, but it is probably the closest analogue of real life that the show ever has to offer. The characters in Buffy are not perfect people. They have their flaws, and they make some very bad choices (understatement!). Those that survive find ways to cope, and they carry on. I agree with some critics that it is difficult to watch our beloved Buffy characters self-destructing, but their behavior shows that they really are human. By the end of this season, all of the characters have gone through some huge changes. Season six isn't the most fun of all of the seven great years of Buffy, but it very well may end up being one of my favorites. The characters show that they really are incredible because they manage to face their own faults and demons in a way that few people can.

In the end, Buffy is an excellent show because it features clever humor, imaginative villains and dilemmas, exciting action sequences, and lots of hot chicks (Hey, you know that's part of it!). The reason Buffy is a great show is that the actors, writers, and directors really did an awesome job, and the characters are so very real.

90210 Season 5.. 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have been a huge fan of 90210 since I was 5 years old when the show first came out. I use to sneak behind my parent's backs just to watch it. I loved season 5, but like many others, was very disappointed by Ray's missing scenes and the constant music changes. I understand they do not have the rights to the music for the DVDs because the musicians were only payed for the original airing and syndication. I really wish they could work something out with the artists because this is a huge show, and hearing songs on TV really prompts users to download the songs on ITUNES.

I was also really let down that there was no special features. I think the segment, "Everything You Need to Know About 90210" is absolutely hilarious. I was so sad there was not one for season 5. Keeping my fingers crossed the rest of the seasons will at least have that one special feature!

I'm definitely looking forward to season 6, even though Luke Perry makes his exit..

I was in love with my Mother's day presents, however like any mother finding the time to watch it was hard. You only have thrity days for return so if you buy this item make sure you watch all discs within the thrity days. I have season 1 through 4 and would like the rest however there were partial and some almost full episode that were unable to be watched from these discs, purchased here. But as far as the show it's great and I love it.

Editorial Review:

One of the definitive, landmark shows of the 1990s, "90210" quickly became an important fixture on the FOX and in the popular discourse of adolescents and young adults. The third season’s main characters, Dylan, Kelly, Donna, Steve, David, Andrea and twins Brandon and Brenda all attended West Beverly Hills High School. Brandon and Brenda Walsh and their parents, transplants from Minneapolis were the stable nuclear family with strong values; their home was a safe haven for the whole gang and the center of much of the drama. The show dealt with a steady stream of love triangles and other romantic entanglements and occasionally touched on more serious issues as well.
