terrible 2 out of 5 stars.

Some of the video clips are funny but the rest was like a train wreck. The video set-ups by Bob Sagat and his two "actors" seemed ad-libbed and forced. It was to the point of agony to get to the next group of videos. I don't see my wife and I ever watching it again. I only hope the other one I bought her is better. Of course we were so scarred from this one, we haven't watched it yet.

Editorial Review:

Here is a recipe for laughter. Candid kiddy capers mix with outrageous animal antics and a generous amount of Bob Saget to cook up a thousand guaranteed laughs. Includes a bonus episode with a $100,000 Season Finale.

Brilliant and nervy improvisation 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The success of the "Borat" movie has boosted the popularity of British comedian Sascha Baron Cohen in the United States. This series dates to the time when he had only a cult following, but his nerve and talent for improvisation is on full display. In order to conduct interviews of unsuspecting subjects, who think they are going to meet a serious journalist, he adopts the personas of Ali G, the confused white wannabe rapper with a flair for malapropisms, Borat, the journalist from Kazahkstan whose disarmingly friendly, ingratiating manner masks his anti-Semitism and hatred of women, and Bruno, the flaming Austrian fashion reporter who regularly and innocently makes assumptions about the sexuality of his subjects, leading to some uncomfortable encounters. These are all brilliant comic performances. He is always funny, even though he sometimes comes off as a bit of a bully when he is making fun of people who seem harmless. However, the show reveals its genius when he has an opportunity to skewer a worthy target, such as the celebrity makeover artist who freely speculates on Jesus Christ's potential as a male model and the members of a private Texas hunt club who are proud of killing endangered species and lament that they are not allowed to hunt Jews. It's a shame that there are only two short seasons of this show.

Editorial Review:

The Emmy nominated, BAFTA Award-winning Ali G is back! British comedic genius, Sacha Baron Cohen, slips into the skins of his devilish alter egos, Ali G, Borat and Bruno to create loads of hilarious riffs at the expense of American culture in the second season of the international phenomenon called "riotous", by The Dallas Morning News and "deliciously wicked," by the Boston Globe.

Love it! 4 out of 5 stars.

I have been watching my Amazing Race Seasons 1 and 7 obsessivly for the last 2 months. (Please come out with MORE seasons on DVD!)

It took a while for me to warm up to the season 1 folks, but I really enjoy them now. EXCEPT for Team Guido. So smug....dislike them. But the challenges were fun and the locations were interesting.

I really hope more seasons are to come on DVD- I watch mine every night, bypassing every other show. I love it.

Amazing Race Season 1 5 out of 5 stars.

Editorial Review:

For its seventh edition, The Amazing Race welcomed two familiar faces. Reality TV vets Rob and Amber were one of eleven teams competing for the million-dollar prize. The other contestants covered the spectrum, like boyfriends Lynn and Alex, brothers Brian and Greg, married couple Uchenna and Joyce, and mother/son duo Susan and Patrick. The latter decides he'll do whatever it takes to beat Boston Rob. As he notes in the season premiere, "I watched Survivor. He's as dumb as a rock." The show’s top-rated installment spanned five continents and 40,000 miles, from Long Beach, CA to Fort Lauderdale, FL. Other pit stops include Buenos Aires, Istanbul, and London. Some of the more colorful challenges include llama herding in Peru and cave rappelling in South Africa, while the emotional high point is a trip to a Soweto orphanage, an experience that reduces Uchenna and Joyce to tears. There will also be sacrifices along the way, as when Gretchen, the second oldest contestant--after her 69-year-old husband, Meredith--has a frightening fall and Joyce says so long to her hair. The seventh season of The Amazing Race is broken into 12 episodes, including three two-part programs. This boxed set features a mini-documentary, chatty commentary from four of the highest-ranked teams, and over three hours of deleted material. After the race aired, Lynn and Alex and Rob and Amber--on network TV, naturally--tied the knot. It was also revealed that Joyce once had a recurring role on Star Trek: The Next Generation. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

A great Britcom 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Are You Being Served? is the story of the staff of the Ladies' and Gentlemen's Wear departments in Grace Brothers department store. While customer's come and go, the staff fights each other and their incompetent superiors with laughs all around. The stories are hilarious and are generally clean, though a running gag involves one lady's constant frettings about her pussy (cat). So, this tape can be watched with younger ones, but some discretion should be exercised.

Nonetheless, this is a great Britcom, one of the classics. If you want to find out what all the excitement about Britcoms is, then buy this DVD!

This great DVD includes the following six(!) half-hour episodes:

Are You Being Served? - Pilot, 9/9/1972 - With the recent reorganization of Grace Brothers department store, the Gentlemen's Ready Wear department finds themselves sharing the floor with the Women's department, and no one is happy about it.

Dear Sexy Knickers - Series 1, episode 1, 3/21/1973 - When Mr. Lucas tries to send a sexy note to the delicious Miss Brahms, it is accidentally intercepted by Captain Peacock, who gives it to Mrs. Slocombe, and hilarity ensues.

Our Figures Are Slipping - Series 1, episode 2, 3/28/1973 - With sales down, Mr. Rumbold decides that the department needs to come up with some new ideas. But, will their savior be the unlikely Mr. Lucas?

Camping In - Series 1, episode 3, 4/4/1973 - With a transport strike on, there's no way for the staff to get home. It looks like they will be camping in at Grace Brothers, and nobody is happy with the arrangement.

His And Hers - Series 1, episode 4, 4/11/1973 - When a perfume stand appears in the middle of the department, no one is happy. But, when it becomes clear that free ties and stockings will be given away with every purchases (stealing commissions from the rest of the staff), it becomes clear that something must be done!

Diamonds Are A Man's Best Friend - Series 1, episode 4, 4/18/1973 - When a wealthy customer loses a diamond on the floor, she offers £100 for its return. Everyone wants that money, and everyone is looking for the diamond, but can everyone find it?

Editorial Review:

Episodes: Dear Sexy Knickers, Our Figures Are Slipping, Camping In. The incredibly popular misadventures of the Grace Brothers department store begin with three classic episodes: Dear Sexy Knickers, Our Figures Are Slipping, and Camping In.

Don't miss the "vacuum cleaner incident." LOL 4 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

The newer episode with Tom Bergeron is better than the other two older ones with Bob Sagat - who I think is a freakin idiot, by the way. As soon as you get a few good laughs from a handful of videos, Bob's embarrasingly awful humor gets you all ticked off again. I recommend hitting the mute button when Bob is on the screen - you'll enjoy the videos a lot more.
By the way, Tom Bergeron rules. He has made AFV the best it has ever been.

It's Alright 3 out of 5 stars.

These are okay, some are very funny but most are cut too short, not funny or ones that you've already seen. The kids will like it, though.

Editorial Review:

3 Classic Christmas Episodes on 1 DVD

Enjoy the merry mayhem on two episodes with the original host Bob Saget and one episode with the current host Tom Bergeron. Every year for its successful 15 year run, AFV has toasted America’s favorite season with a holiday celebration. These special episodes are full of all the goof-ball antics unique to this time of year. The decorations, school pageants, gift-giving and receiving - all become perfect opportunities for bonehead behavior to be captured on home video.

Typical Joss - he ruins a once great show 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Although a once hard-core BtVS / AtS fan, I gave up on Buffy in Season 6 and Angel in Season 4. Typical Joss Whedon - he makes great characters and then can't resist ruining them by introducing more and more plot contrivances and less and less subtlety, in what I assume is an ongoing effort to one-up himself.

This season of Angel, though well-written and well-acted, takes the downward turn in plot that started in Season 3 (Connor, the Cordy ascension, the icky and ham-fisted Cordy/Angel 'romance'), and plunges even further into utter crap. The entire Cordy storyline is out of left field and a real character assassination, and the 'Big Bad' of the season is ridiculous and more annoying even than Holtz.

Honestly, I guess this season is worth a watch if you're a fan of the show, but it certainly isn't worth buying.

Editorial Review:

With both Angel and Cordelia still missing, Fred, Gunn and Connor try to keep Angel Investigations running while they search for their friends. Ironically, the man who everyone believes betrayed Angel is the one who finally comes to Angel's rescue. Then Cordelia mysteriously reappears with no memory of her life or her friends. Confused, she chooses to take refuge with Connor?setting into motion events that will alter their lives forever.

nearing the end 4 out of 5 stars.

series 8 of allo allo is a bit of a let down, getting old and repeatative.
good to see some of the annoying characters have gone.the pity is that if the delays of deaths and gordon kaye's accident the show would have better continunity.on the upside,it's still a great show and the bonus material though small has a great doco with the remaining cast.
looking foreward to the end of the war.

I am so glad that I found this television series 5 out of 5 stars.

I love British sitcoms but have already seen all of Are You Being Served?, Fawlty Towers, The Good Life (Good Neighbors), Keeping Up Appearances, As Time Goes By, and others. I was looking for something new and found it in this series, Allo Allo! The totally hilarious situations that keep happening to Rene and his confederates as well as his enemies(?) are well worth watching. Cast changes are handled really well so you aren't left wondering "What happened?". I can't wait to get the next installment (Series 9).

Series 8 with its story lines of Michelle's pregnancy, Gruber's compromising photo, and the number of Hitler and Goering's running around was just as funny and captivating as the first 7 series. But the war is almost over for Rene and the cast of Allo Allo! How it will all come to a close will keep me on the edge of my seat until October when I get the next DVD.

Editorial Review:

In a small café in occupied France the harassed proprietor, Rene, is fighting his own war. With the German Army in residence at the bar, Rene is risking his neck to aid the Resistance by hiding two British airmen and a radio transmitter upstairs. As if this wasn't enough, Rene has also got involved in hiding a priceless painting in a garlic sausage, which even now is being sniffed out by the Gestapo. But Rene's real problem is his wife, Edith, and what she will do to him when she finds out about the affairs he is having with two sexy waitresses!

Excellent video transfer - informative extras 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

"The Addams Family" Series 1 is a treat. Here's my "Top 5".

Firstly, this black and white series doesn't date. Monochrome suits the mock macabre world of the Addams. And they are "ooky and kooky" enough to be outside of everyone's fashion universe. Where other shows from 1964 seem better in memory than in rerun, the Addams are better. My prediction? The recently produced Addams Family movies will be well and truly out-of-date before the sixties TV series.

Secondly the Addams Family was ahead of it's time. Today many series pay lip service to tolerance and diversity. As John Astin mentions in the extras to this disk set, the Addams Family had poked gentle fun at the dividing line between conventional and unconventional. The Addams' have a foot in both camps. Outwardly unconventional they believe themselves to be middle of the road normals. Today we're used to people being "non-confromists just like everyone else", our self-styled non-confromists wouldn't last too long around Uncle Fester!

Gomez's on screen passion for his wife was, as the extras note, unique in it's time. Another area where the Addams were ahead of the trend. One area they aren't is in simple good manners. Wednesday always (always!) says "thank you Thing". How many modern series exhibit children with good manners? Maybe modern series and audiences could learn something here.

Thirdly, the video and audio reproduction in this series is very good. With the DVDs you realise just how central Vic Mizzi's excellent music is to the series. Again harpsichord doesn't date. If it's not 'in' it can't go 'out'.

Fourth, the extras here are valuable, informative and entertaining. They are not an after thought. It's great to see the surviving cast and how Pugsley and Wednesday have grown up. The extras background the work of Charles Addams, the cartoonist creator of "The Addams Family", detail the origin and casting of the series, and showcase the music. Hit it Lurch!

Last but not least, the Addams Family is simply fun. And don't we all need a laugh?

Editorial Review:

They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, and now for the first time, they're on DVD! The Addams Family, America's first family of ghastly giddiness, are here in all of their ghoulish glory in the original TV series based on the delightfully demented imagination of Charles Addams. Tarantulas, torture racks, and tombstones have never been so much fun! Join Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Cousin Itt, and the rest of the gang for a fiendishly funny and altogether kooky experience. It's time to pay a call on The Addams Family!
