A great season of a geat show 4 out of 5 stars.

24 Season Four has Jack facing mid-eastern extremists. The plot is solid (as is the acting) and the action is just plain awesome. As common to 24 however, there are a lot of things that happen that are quite frustrating :p. But really this is a great season of 24 and worth watching whether you are a fan or not.

On a side note, I got my slim pack of Season 4 at a sale at an electonics store, I can't believe the ridiculous price Amazon is asking for these slim packs online.

Editorial Review:

Emmy nominated for Best Drama series, 24 Season 4 is considered by fans and critics to be the best season yet. Starring Keifer Sutherland in his Emmy nominated role as Jack Bauer, 24 Season 4 received the highest broadcast ratings of the series' 4 year history.

The loaded 7-disk set includes a ground-breaking extra, shot on location during Season 5 production, which bridges Season 4 with Season 5 and gives clues about what is to come. 24 Season 4 on DVD is the only place to follow every moment of suspense, mystery and action of this worldwide smash hit television show!

Will Tom beat the marked? Will Tom take the shot that his son said he would. What about promised city? Will Jordan be beaten, or will he take total control of Seattle? Sorry no hints on this ride to what could, or couldn't be. I will tell you if you want to know then get this. I can't wait for next season.

41/2 Stars for this great Sci Fi series 4 out of 5 stars.

I have to admit that I was at first a little disappointed w/ season 1 due to the fact that I have a big interest in aliens and was lead to believe that this show was alien abduction ordinated by a friend who knew that that would be the best way to get me to watch it. My disappointment did not last long though as I was very soon engrossed with the great
acting and story line. This show has a great deal of twists and turns that keep me guessing and very intrigued.
OK so what about season 4 you ask ? All I can say is that this show just keeps getting better and better every season. Very original and intelligently written. Definitely worth watching and owning on DVD I can't wait to get my hands on season 5.

Editorial Review:

Over the last century, thousands of people have gone missing. Suddenly and inexplicably, 4400 missing people are returned, all at once, exactly as they were on the day they vanished. Unclear what this world-altering event means, the government investigates the 4400 to piece together where they've been and why they've been returned. It quickly becomes apparent that their presence will change the human race in ways no one could have foreseen.

uneven but ultimately pleasing 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

On the one hand, this season marked a kind of decline in the show - based upon the weird idea of its writers that problems must be found/created within the Camden family rather than outside of it.
The result is not only the infamous declining behavior of the oldest sister, Mary, but numerous plots rooted in unconvincing "experiments" and misbehavior on the part of the middle brother, Simon. Fortunately, the Mary decline surprisingly turns into one of the most impressive showpieces for the collective acting skills of the cast, in which each family member gets to deliver a monologue (and youngest sister/daughter Ruthie finally shows that she has the skills to add to the drama of the show!)
On the other hand, the use of Simon as a dabbler in delinquency does not convince because it contradicts the previous history of the character - why would someone who stood up against racist peers and a school gunman in previous episodes suddenly feel it natural to dabble in smoking and sexist gangster rap? Ridiculous! Not that it's totally impossible, mind you, but this is NOT what keeps people as fans of the show. Rather, after enjoying several seasons of the family being able to help people (despite their own imperfections), what would make the writers/producers think that we would then want to see the family repeatedly divided against itself? I, for one, do not.
On the other hand, when the show isn't stumbling in this way, some very interesting things occur during the season. Youngest daughter Ruthie finally has her character become an asset to the show again by not merely being an annoyance, but progressing to a new elite school where her cleverness may find more productive outlets. The perpetual juggling of Matt's two girlfriends finally settles into more normal behavior (although the actor consistently delivers brilliantly performed humor amidst some of the obsessive characterization the writers give to his character) and allows him to return to his status as a functional and varied character instead of a study in OCD. The episode they titled "100" turned out to be, in my opinion, one of the most pleasing of the entire series, and "restored my faith" in the show. Lucy's character is now one of the most solidly reliable groundings of the show, in addition to the two perpetually stalwart parents (which is what the biggest appeal of the entire show should be).
Despite some lingering tediousness about Mary's unreasonableness that persists at the end of the season, a new character unexpectedly joins the family, to very good effect. This surprising development turns out to add a lot of new strength to the show, as again there are several family members who can set good examples for each other and for others - just as had been the strength of previous seasons.

So, although there were frustrating moments during this season when I felt that the show had finally "jumped the shark," these tremors turned out to shift things in generally positive ways. The treatment of Mary's character as a perpetually disturbing and unreasonable element, and the effort to focus on (create) internal family problems rather than external problems (such as social issues) are the two most serious weaknesses of this season of the show. Despite that, there were several standout episodes and major changes throughout the season that promised to overcome that turbulence and head in a more productive and positive direction. While the show is always interesting to watch, the writers have seriously overdone the Mary roller-coaster ride, and the (stereotypical) teenage conformity plot device that has been handed to Simon.
At least the largest problems with the Matt and Ruthie characters have been mostly solved during this season, and they rejoin the show as strengths rather than distractions. The entire cast has now exhibited many strengths as actors, with some of them capable of doing a phenomenal job when given the chance, but the writers/producers keep insisting on dragging out this whole "Mary in decline" notion way too much. At least she's absent for half of the season (and good riddance, if her character is now going to be reduced to mere unreasonableness and disturbance) but she returns toward the end of the season to mess things up again. Fortunately, the new family member is there to help keep her in line, and to balance the audience's likely reaction against her. I don't care if the "conversion" of the new family member will seem unbelievable to many viewers - if he is a positive element in the show then the change is a good thing and I will applaud it as a needed balancing force on the side of decentness and temperance and discipline. Simon's character should consistently be showing the same virtues as well, as he'd done in previous seasons. I will certainly be buying episode 6, due to the numerous strengths of the show, but I'm starting to see what sorts of things might possibly go totally haywire in the show's future. This season may be a case of "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."

Oh, yes, and I finally noticed a serious problem with the "edited episode" complaints that other reviewers have commented on. One of the episodes inexplicably removed a "swear word" from the audio track. Some might think that this adjustment is helpful to retain a "family" atmosphere to the show, but no - the change was totally ridiculous. It's in the "gangster rap" episode ("Tunes") and when Lucy runs into a sexist jerk at a local record store, her reactions and dialogue, plus Ruthie's line "He just called you a bad word." are responding to something that NO LONGER APPEARS in the episode! I had to rewind and watch carefully to find that someone had removed the word "b--ch" from the soundtrack!! Absurd! If they don't want the word to appear in their show then they should not have chosen that theme for the episode to begin with! Who's making these decisions, anyway? Was it like this on the original broadcast, or was it re-edited (and in either case, WHY???)

There was a different episode that felt kind of jumpy and made me wonder whether some of the DVD "editing" was at work. I can only add to the forceful criticisms of other reviewers that THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS TYPE OF DESTRUCTIVE EDITING TO TAKE PLACE for the production of the DVD sets.

Oh, and finally, a comment that, once again, the season as a whole would be
rated PG-13 if it were submitted for MPAA rating, due to drug content and thematic elements.

This review is based on pricing not on content.

This "slim" edition is $53.99. The same season in what is I can only suppose is the "non-slim" edition is $34.49. What value does the slim addition bring that is worth $19.50? There doesn't seem to be any additional features. You would think the reduced packaging costs for the slim edition would would justify a price DECREASE not a price increase. 24 is the best! 5 out of 5 stars.

I didn't get into 24 until this past year and decided to buy Season 1. I watched the entire thing in one weekend! It's like one looooooooooong movie but I didn't have the urge to get up and do dishes or anything.. I rushed through making me a quick something-to-eat so I could get back to Kiefer and what was going on next. So I bought season 2, but took that one a bit more slowly. I love that there is love, hate, terror, death...all in one package, and it all fits so well together! I've ordered 3 and 4 and can't wait! I wish I could give these 20 stars!

7th Heaven 5 out of 5 stars.

I love this show and it's great to have the DVD of its first season.

A sweet show, that will catch you off guard 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Essentially 7th Heaven is a show about living decently and with kindness in today's world. Ofcourse religion is in the show and a rather even overly strong moral position but its never really forced. Try it and see for yourself, you just might be suprised.

However, the show has some true flaws: sometimes unbelievably bad acting and writing, badly contrived plots and plot devices, and the occasional amnesiac episodes ( where an epsiode is used to bring about a point and then never addressed again and forgotten about ). Despite all these flaws you might find yourself enjoying the very human elements within, smiling at the mundane, laughing at the sweetly absurd, and feeling sad right along with the characters. Not every episode may be for you but with tv thats almost a given with any series.

Give this show a try and see if its for you.

PS. the last two seasons don't exist :P

Editorial Review:

7TH HEAVEN centers around the Camdens, a tight-knit family living in Glenoak, California and consisting of minister dad Eric, homemaker mom Annie, and their brood of five children: Matt, Mary, Lucy, Simon and Ruthie and their adorable dog, Happy. The series chronicles the many complex issues of growing up in the world today, and the Camden family tackles these issues head-on. Unafraid of intervening in the lives of their children, Eric and Annie discuss serious issues with them in an effort to educate them on the ways of the world. The family remains a tight unit as a result of their love for one another, and their faith in God.

Best 24 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Season 3 of 24 focuses on a threat of a virus being released into the city of Los Angeles as well as other major population centers. As usual, Jack Bauer is on the scene to stop the bad guys. Because so much of the entertainment value of the show comes from the twists and turns of the plot, I won't reveal many of the specifics but there two major story arcs that should be familiar to those who have watched the first two seasons. First, there is Jack and the other CTU agents who are racing against time to stop the terrorists from releasing the virus. Then there is President David Palmer and his administration that are fighting various potential scandals at the same time they deal with the virus.

The first thing that a viewer notices about this season is that the pace starts off a bit more slowly. It's not dull by any means, but it is definitely less frenetic out of the starting gate. The good part of this is that the writers have also eliminated the flaws that were evident in the last third of the first two seasons. This season is the first that felt like the story had been thought through to the very end with solid pacing throughout leading to a good climax in the last episode. I found this a welcome change from earlier seasons where it seemed that all the good ideas were used up early and increasingly preposterous ideas ruined the story at the time when it should have been building to the big finale.

Jack's character is generally much more under control than we have seen previously. He is still willing to go further than most men would, but he no longer seems to be driven by constant rage or a death wish. I found this change a welcome one. Kim Bauer is also improved as the amount of time she spends as a prisoner/hostage is radically reduced and she even proves useful at times in her new role as a CTU computer analyst. The performances of the villains were quite good, especially Joaquim de Almeida as Ramon Salazar. He brings a combination of charm and ruthlessness that is just right to make him a bad guy you love to hate.

The biggest low point of the season was the soap opera swirling around David Palmer's presidency. This is a man who was shown to be very principled in the first season, but since then he has consistently done the wrong or immoral thing any time he's been faced with a tough choice. His judgment is so consistently poor that I found myself no longer pulling for him and hoping that he would be brought down by the scandal of his own actions. It's a shame, because Dennis Haysbert has terrific presence and the writers did not need to insert all this cheap melodrama into the story.

I've only watched the first three seasons so far, but this is clearly the best one to date. The story holds together much better from beginning to end, and a lot of the worst plot contrivances that plagued the first two seasons have been done away with. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a thrill ride television series. There are many twists and turns and it makes for quite a breathtaking experience.

7th Heaven 3rd season 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I enjoyed watching this series. It is wholesome and shows that no one is perfect, not even the parents. Some of the shows are aimed at problems facing our nation today. For example, one show portrayed a very angry teenager who threatened to shoot Simon Camden. His father refused to believe he would shoot any one, saying the pranks he played were part of growing up. But he sang a different song at the end of the show when his son was sentenced to a State correctional facility until he was 25 years old. It shows also that "preacher's kids" are no different than any others. They have the same problems/hang-ups as anyone else.

I know Fraggle Rock from my childhood and the episodes are still enjoyable to watch. The lessons learned are timeless and apply to children of all generations. Jim Henson was a visionary and I'm so happy that his legacy lives on and is available on DVD. I am also happy that his kids are carrying on the tradition.

Having a baby in April, I can't WAIT to share this great show with my child!
