Simpson's: Still the Stuff of Silliness 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Season ten was an historic season of the Simpsons. Granted, I like many other reviewers here, think season 9 was better, some might say, the best.

However, season ten had many important things, such as the last Phil Hartman episode (forever a sad day in Simpsons, Newsradio, comedy, etc). Also guest stars included the voices of Lisa Kudrow, Regis Philbin, Kathie Lee Gifford, Jerry Springer, Ed McMahon, Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, George Carlin, Mark Hamill, The Moody Blues, Cyndi Lauper, John Madden, Troy Aikman, Dan Marino, Pat Summerall, Roosevelt Grier, Fred Willard, Dolly Parton, Rupert Murdoch, Yo La Tengo, Elton John, Hank Williams, Jr., Jasper Johns, Isabella Rossellini, Jack La Lanne, Stephen Hawking, and George Takei.

Episodes such as Hell Toupee (classic), D'Oh in the Wind (just watch it), Mayored to the mob(luke, be a jedi tonight), Homer to the Max (one of my top 5 fave episodes ever), and Simpsons over Tokyo (my favorite from this season) all combine to make for a solid Simpsons experience.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in comedy, the Simpsons, or as a gift to someone who does. A very funny show, still in its prime/early-early decline. DEFINITELY worth the time and expense.

Thanks

Worst X-file product ever Worst non-SF/film in 20 years. 2 out of 5 stars.

This hash was terrible, painful to watch as were the beloved characters we could no longer recognize through the layers self absorption, angst, indifference, depression, etc. It looks like it was shot on the cheap in and around Vancouver, eh? Mulder in crisis, Scully no longer loyal to mulder but she lives with him? (Or not?) Bad Body parts thieves, good stem cell research, bad Bush? Social/political commentary? PLEASE!

What happened to the evil government conspiracies? The Aliens? I want my science fiction! This reminded me of low budget horror flicks with depression and anxiety injected for flavor. Poor Mitch Pileggi gets randomly and inexplicably tossed in at the last half hour.

It's as if Carter got stuck in the depressive mire of Millenium, lost his bearings and stayed there. Someone called this a stand alone episode; I think it's more of a pile alone. What really makes this so bad, corny and almost unwatchable (like a trainwreck) is the fact that we all know Carter and crew are capable of so much, much more. They proved that for years. Then again, maybe not anymore. It's a great disappoinment.

THIS NEVER ARRIVED. I HAVE CONTACTED THE SELLER BUT ALL HE WOULD SAY WAS THAT IT WAS SENT. HE NEVER TRIED TO MAKE IT RIGHT.

No Show 1 out of 5 stars.

What would I have wanted to know before I purchased the product? Perhaps that I was never going to receive the product in the first place!!! Still no season 6 of 24 and no refund either. Seller does not reply.
Will never use Amazon.com again. I learned my lesson.

Some critics don't think this season is as good as some earlier seasons. That may be so, but the tension and suspense are still great! Buy it...you'll like it.

Jack Bauer Power! 4 out of 5 stars.

As always, I enjoyed this season of 24. I always buy a season and then go on vacation and watch it ALL!! I simply just cannot wait from one week to the next to see what is going to happen. However, this season, in my opinion was not as good as it probally could have been. Nevertheless, it was still fantastic. Looking forward to the next season, and vacation!

Editorial Review:

At the end of Season 5, Jack Bauer was kidnapped, beaten, and taken captive in retribution for his involvement in a raid on the Chinese Consulate eighteen months earlier. Now, there's a new president, Jack Bauer is missing, and the U.S. is under siege from terrorist attacks more threatening than anything we've ever encountered! There is only one thing that can save the nation: Jack Bauer must die.

The best modern version of the Restoration comedies of Wycherly and Congreve 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

4.5 stars

Some of this series has been great, and some of it painfully embarrassing to watch (let's face it, sometimes Larry is just a spoiled selfish brat). The great moments can be truly classic, however, never more so than in the hour-long pilot, where the concept of the show is not yet fully in place, and the real Larry appears as well as the LD he says (in the commentary)he wishes he could be, who is the main character in the series.
In the pilot we get Jerry and Jason Alexander and others talking about what Larry is really like, which is hilarious, and then we get some snippets of him doing stand-up, which is actually damn good. He really oughta do a full stand-up dvd. The pilot is one of the funniest tv episodes I've ever seen.
The rest of season one shows Larry settling in to the LD persona he creates, and has many excellent story lines and jokes. Essentially this is a modern comedy of manners and mores; no shortage of material there! I keep thinking of Wycherly and Congreve when I watch this; over 300 years later and we're still caught up in our dumbass conventions that signify nothing but ego and vanity.
This show will neve be as good as Seinfeld because the characters just aren't as strong (and Jason is a better Larry than Larry ever could be), but the liberties that being on HBO affords lets LD go places Sein never could...but I guess that's kind of a liability in some ways. You've got to work harder for a laugh when you can't say nasty words.
This show is starting to get a little tired, but the first four or five seasons have some truly genius moments. Any guy worth a billion dollars who can make millions of people feel sorry for him is a genius, no doubt!

CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM stars "Seinfeld" co-creator Larry David as himself in an unsparing, cinema verite depiction of his life. Featuring real life celebrities playing themselves, the episodes are improvised by the actors from storylines by David.

Product was received a few days after I placed the order. Packaging and condition of the pproduct were excellent.

Best Show on TV 5 out of 5 stars.

The Venture Bros. second season took a show that was already terrific and WAY too good and sophisticated for [adult swim] and amped it up like ten notches. The animation is great and easily the best looking thing [adult swim] has every produced on its own, the designs are amazing, so many memorable and richly realized characters, funny and very pointed writing, and this seasons episodes have an arc that eventually leads to a two-part climax that is far more satisfying than most live action shows currently on the air. Kudos to Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick for turning out such consistently funny and entertaining show. If you're not watching it, you need to start and the sooner the better.

Editorial Review:

An inspired spoof of 1960s action cartoons such as "Johnny Quest," The Venture Bros., follows the bizarre mis-adventures of Hank and Dean who believe themselves to be an unusually gifted team of "brains" and "braun" while actually possessing very little of either. The boys travel the world with their renowned scientist-father, Doctor Venture -- and treat even the most mundane situation as a bold new adventure. As a result, they often find themselves in danger with a host of oddball villains -- but rarely find their way out. The rely instead on their body-guard/undercover government agent Brock Sampson, voiced by Patrick Warburton of "The Tick" and "Seinfeld" fame, to save them.

Get Smart, Season One, Well Done 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Purchased this for my son's birthday. He loves it and I am reliving my youth. With all the trash on TV today, it's a relief to have wholesome entertainment to watch.

Would you believe...it's about time? 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Get Smart was one of the top 5 TV comedies of all time, maybe one of the top five shows of any genre. After somehow never being released in VHS, the series was finally released in DVD. The negative is that it was released as the complete series with a price tag that was higher per season than the subsequent release of season one. The positive is that it's now down to $110 on Amazon which is a little more reasonable. Hopefully HBO Home Video will get smart and release the remaining seasons individually soon. Those who were fans will end up buying it one way or another. Those who only know the recent movie should find a way to watch the series to see how it was done right.

Get Smart - Season 1 (THe Original TV Series) 4 out of 5 stars.

Well worth the purchase price. Didn't realize the it is in color as when I first watched it we only had a black n white television. In vivid color, not like some old series you see on tv where the color is washed out.

Wow! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I had read about the critical acclaim for Mad Men and knew it wons awards etc. but had not seen an episode. I just bought a Blu-Ray player and needed a test disc so I bought Mad Men Season One. Wow! Excellent! I've watched 11 episodes in 3 days and can't wait to finish the Blu-Ray disc set ASAP. It just sucks you in. I've just pre-ordered Season Two's Blu-Ray disc set,....

The quality of the video in 1080 / Blu-Ray is outstanding. It easily convinced me that upgrading to a Blu-Ray player from a very good DVD player was worth it.

One of the Best Dramatic Series on Television 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

An absolutely fantastic telling of a story that centers around a group of Ad Executives that work at an Ad Agency on Madison Avenue in New York city, circa 1960. A great glimpse into how much America has changed since the 60's. Everyone smokes almost all of the time in every scene, they enjoy five martini lunches, and doting wives wait at home for their husbands with a roast in the oven. Wonderfully acted, engaging, superbly produced and filmed. This is one of the best dramatic series I have ever seen on television. I include Six Feet Under in the same category of quality. Very cinematic. The sound, picture, and extra features of the Blu-Ray version are second to none. Highly recommended.

VICTORY!! - Drama 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

The gang is back and this time around Vinny is going to be in the newest hit movie "Aquaman" directed by James Cameron. Vinny's co-star for Aquaman will be Mandy Moore. Come to find out, Vinny's heart was crushed by Mandy on the movie `A Walk to Remember'. Yep... our woman hungry movie star Vinny at one time actually had his heart broken. He was in love. Mandy is now happily engaged to someone else and all she wants to be with Vinny is friends. Or does she. Ah, gotta love some good drama. Speaking of drama, Johnny Drama is headed to Comic Con to dress up as his old character from Viking Quest (think of the old TV show Hercules) and sign autographs and make a few bucks. Vince is going to promote his movie so of course Turtle and Eric go also. But here at Comic Con, the tides have changed and Johnny is the big star. He's got hot women all over him and everyone wants to talk to him. Turtle later on finds an up and coming music star and wants to manage him, even though the guy stole Vince's car. E finds new love in Ari Gold's boss's daughter.

Now even though the gang is a good group of guys and actors, I think if someone else would have played their characters (from the beginning of the show), we would still be laughing (maybe not Drama though). I have one exception though and that is Ari Gold who is played by Jeremy Piven. The guy is a genius. Just about all of his lines are a godsend to the show whether they are crude, witty, loving, mad, scared, sarcastic, or genuine, they are all great lines. Most of the time funny as hell lines. His actions are another thing that's great about him because he seems to be a big ball of energy that's about to explode. I've always liked him in just about everything he's been in, but he has really found himself in this show.

One other guy I'd like to mention is the newcomer Lloyd. Ari's new assistant. I didn't think I was going to like him that much, but he has brought a LOT of comedy to this show. Main reason for that is because he's Asian and he's gay. So now Ari has even more ammunition for his onslaught of mean sarcasm. And because Lloyd is a man, Ari is a little harder on him than if he was a woman. But Lloyd is VERY feminine and will cry and get hurt and will just ignore Ari if he wants to which aggravates Ari even more. You can't help but root for Lloyd almost all of the time. Such a great new character.

When it comes to the jokes and glamour, not much has changed, but that's good. The writing is still hilarious and very witty. The show is full of guest cameos which are great if you are a big movie fan like I am. I believe season 2 is better than season 1 and I really liked season 1. This show honestly gets better as it get older.

Highly recommended.

Editorial Review:

After three months shooting an indie film in the Big Apple, the boys are back in La-la-land. Eric is officially Vince?s manager, Turtle is running the house, Drama is hoping to enhance his onscreen assets...and Ari is pushing a blockbuster superhero role for his golden-boy client.
