Great product, not so great season 4 out of 5 stars.

The whole package and extra contents are excellent, the video and audio transfer are incredible, the only problem is that this second season could have been so much better

Quality over Quantity 4 out of 5 stars.

I loved this second season. The first was great, but I really thought things came together in the second. I know some people have complained there was too much character development and not enough action, but, for me, the balance was just right. I loved that we learned more about the characters and from that knowledge came a deeper understanding and respect.
It's a pity the writer's strike made this such a short season and that it changed the direction the story was going in. Still, it's a must-buy for any sci-fi fan.

More characterization, though plots had to be trunkated 4 out of 5 stars.

The writer's strike wrecked havoc upon Season 2, but not was all lost. There are many characters and some plots worked well others dragged. The Hiro in Japan storyline was a superficial story full of cliches. Too bad because the villian, Adam, was one of the better characters and played by a great actor. Another great addition was the character of Elle, a sociopath only kept in check by the her duties as a Company agent. It turns out that her previous relationship with Sylar was supposed to have been built upon at a slower pace, but the strike eliminated that storyline. The 3rd season only had the actrees for a few episodes and her story was resolved too quickly. Too bad because the Sylar/Elle story was one of the highlights of an inconsistent season 3. She did bring a spark to season 2 though and her scenes with Peter, Mohinder, Claire, and HRG were some of the better ones of the season. Sylar without powers proved that he could use deception and manipulation to get what he wanted. Too bad the character Maya was given an annoying personality and had me rooting against her. Sylar needs a strong personality to play off of so he doesn't completely dominate the scenes. We did learn his personal power comes from his will power, focus, and intelligence, not just his outward non-human powers.
There was great potential for the New Orleans family but I found the plot very weak. The young actors though were terrific and did what they could to keep it moving. I would have liked to see more of Nikki after the death of her husband though. She ended up a victim instead of the complicated strong woman she was in Season 1.
The extras are crucial to understanding what changed due to the strike. For all its faults, Heroes is still an entertaining show, although wildly inconsistent.

To everything there's a season and a time to every purpose 4 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

What if you discovered that you had a superpower -- great strength, flight, teleportation, or amazing healing? And what if you could use it to save the world?

Superheroes are everywhere in entertainment, from comic books to movies. But they suddenly got new attention in "Heroes," which explores the repercussions of "ordinary" people who discover that they have strange -- and sometimes dangerous -- powers. The first season is a a solid comic-book style TV series, although the second season trips over itself.

It opens with Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) reflecting on the human quest for knowledge -- even knowledge that we shouldn't have -- right before learning that his father has been killed, possibly murdered. Suresh's dad believed that "special" people were cropping up, much like in X-Men.

And we are introduced to the "heroes": stripper Niki (Ali Larter) harbors a secret dark side, cheerleader Claire (Hayden Panettiere) heals from any injury, cubicle worker Hiro (Masi Oka) bends time and space, Senatorial candidate Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) is able to fly, his brother Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) can copy others' powers, cop Matt (Greg Grunberg) can read minds, and junkie artist Isaac (Santiago Cabrera) sees the future.

Their lives are dramatically changed by their powers -- some explore them, some are haunted by them, and a superpowered serial killer is hunting and murdering the others. Even worse, Hiro witnesses the explosive destruction of New York a mere five weeks into the future -- and a future version of himself says that saving the cheerleader will save the world.

The second season is a much shorter one (because of a writers' strike) and doesn't quite measure up to the epic heights of the first season. The Heroes are struggling to deal with the aftereffects of the past season, especially the now-alcoholic Nathan and amnesiac Peter. Meanwhile, Hiro uses his powers to travel to medieval Japan -- and finds out some shocking facts about his boyhood hero.

Unfortunately while the malevolent Sylar has lost his powers, he's still dangerous -- especially since he's teamed up with a woman who emits poison. The season revs up when a trip into the future reveals that the Shanti virus is going to kill over nine-tenths of the world. With no time to waste -- and a mysterious man who may or may not be an ally -- the Heroes must save humanity once again.

Unlike most shows about people with superpowers, "Heroes" isn't really about the action or flashy battles. It's half epic save-the-world-as-a-team story, and half exploration of how real, ordinary people would react if they suddenly found out that they had superpowers, and how this would change -- or NOT change -- their lives.

And the first season is a brilliant piece of work -- incredibly intricate and complex, since there are a dozen subplots and a lot of time travel, and a lot of exploration of the Heroes' previous lives. These complex storylines are enhanced by lots of suspense and tightly directed action, and the makers always know how to throw in a shocking twist (a sword-carrying future Hiro showing up) and some dark humour (Claire wakes up in mid-autopsy).

The second season is not quite as good -- the forcibly truncated length means that it's a bit oddly paced, and the vision-of-a-disaster-that-must-be-prevented is too similar to the first season. But it's still worth watching with all those creepy moments (such as the poison-woman with black eyeballs), and especially the malevolent Sylar.

The actors are pretty much all good -- Larter gives a great double performance, Zachary Quinto is a wonderfully twisted villain, and Panettiere gives a good performance as a teen whose adolescence has a lot more than hormones in store. Masi Oka is the standout, though -- his Hiro is sweet, endearing, geeky, heroic, sad, kindly, funny and thoroughly lovable, and grows in maturity as he works his way through the series.

The first two seasons of"Heroes" start off brilliantly and continue a bit less brilliantly, but overall it is a solid, unusual sci-fi-drama that's well worth watching.

Bad 1 out of 5 stars.

I ordered this almost a month ago and I still haven't recieved it and I have tried to communicate with the seller and they haven't answered me.

Best first season of any series. 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I loved this show on broadcast, and I love it more on DVD. I could mention that it could use more DVD-exclusive content and special features, I do love commentary tracks. But, this is a minor issue by comparison. This is, bar none, the best opening season for any television series. Perhaps the second season wasn't all that it could be, and the third season is almost up to standards, but those are separate concerns. Here's the bottom line: Get this DVD collection. Get it and see what I mean. It is genius, from start to finish.

Really Great Series 5 out of 5 stars.

Well thought out. Well acted. This is what TV series should be like.

Good for a TV series 5 out of 5 stars.

Although we are all getting a bit overdone on multiple character, plot, places, skipping back and forth in time (is anyone but me Lost yet) Heroes has some really great actors, in particular they have older characters in starring roles. If for no other reason I gave this TV show a five star. That said the show is challenging to watch as there are so many characters and plots running at the same time. Unlike Lost which follows a similiar format, Heroes does take the time to develop each character througout all three seasons. Sometimes the show gets off track rather intentionally or to allow the producers to bring back previously killed off characters, but it eventually rerights itself so one can follow how the whole series plot is unfolding. It has kept my interest but I wonder as we get to the end of season 3 if it can keep up the twist and turns and not get LOST.

I purchased this item maybe a month ago, and I was very excited to find this prize online, in stock and for sale at such a great deal!! Seriously, I looked on ebay for weeks, and watched auctions of USED collections go for MORE than this package is selling for BRAND NEW on Amazon.com!
I recieved my Heroes Seasons 1 & 2 on blu-ray maybe a week or two later (I'm not exactly sure when it was delivered since I didn't check my post office box right away!) They were in pristine condition (brand new and not damaged, and I was super excited to get them home for viewing. The quality is amazing and the picture and effect is nothing less of what I have come to expect from Blu-Ray and and HD t.v. You can buy this on ebay like I said for an arm and a leg, and still only get 1 season of the show for the price you'll pay here, for a used copy, with someone else's ware and tear on it already! Thats a let down! During Christmas shopping yesterday at BestBuy I priced the two seasons on blu-ray, brand new for $140.00!!! A ridiculous price when you can buy here on Amazon for the price they're selling season 1 for, alone!! This is a long review, but I had a lot to say, and its all true! I am a fanatic of the show, but I had to give Amazon its due respect for being such a great site to do business with! If you are a Heroes fan, or are looking to buy for one, BUY HERE and BUY NOW, because seriously, the prices won't last, and its a helluva deal. Shipping was even FREE!
Amazon has NEVER let me down with any of my purchases, and I am always a happy and satisfied customer when I receive my items I buy. I have come to expect a level of professionalism and quality from the site, and it always delivers and never lets me down. The sellers that sell on here that I have dealt with are always honorable and reputable as well. These are all very important qualities you want to look for when your buying online.

Blu-Ray Remains the Best Way to Watch Heroes (Truly Underrated!) 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Season Two, regardless of the writer's strike, remains high quality entertainment. Like many others, I was hesitant going in. What with all the excessive negative feedback. Not that this Season wasn't without its fair share of flaws, but most of which was rather minor compared to it's newfound strengths.

For those coming hot off the heels of Season One, hoping for more of the same but with tons of new characters, you're met halfway. Several of the new characters are surprisingly well developed and have gone on to become some of my favorite characters: Alejandro, Elle, Maya, and Monica. However, due to the considerably shortened length, many of the returning characters feel far too alien. Not enough screen time perhaps? For this very reason, many of the present struggles can be hard to relate to. More often than not, you feel as if Nathan and pals could've used that extra time. Maybe introduce a few more conflicts, and then you would have some excellent character development. No matter. Due to the writer's strike, none of which was possible. Still, going in, it was nice knowing many of these problems. Helped to appreciate more of the talents at work behind these scenes.

Now, the strengths. As mentioned earlier, the new characters are a breath of fresh air. Each trial shows something new; something special. That something is what really shines through, reminding you of just why you started watching Heroes in the first place. Probably the best aspect Season 2 has going for it. Granted, these stories still have a few problems here and there, but, for the most part, they are pulled off exceptionally well. There is a downside, however. If you find you are unable to relate with even but one character, the first several episodes will become laborious. In the case this happens, hold out. Try to find something worth liking, because the payoff that comes next is infinitely more rewarding. Seriously, you will hate yourself forever if you miss the return of "The Company Man."

Recall for a second, about halfway through the first season of Heroes the special effects extravaganza known as "The Company Man" struck a chord with audiences everywhere, changing the face of dramas forever. Well, I never thought I would be able to say this, but it seems lightning has struck twice. Cautionary Tales comes out of left field; full of raw, emotional, power that has quickly become one of my favorite episodes ever. Even better than Company Man. This is the episode I will remember Season 2 for for years to come. The Bennet family strikes again! Hopefully Season 3 can achieve much of the same success found here in this episode, but with the way the Petrelli war seems to be playing out this may be the last time the Bennets will be able to answer the call. This is one episode you cannot afford to miss!

After so much amazing you must be tired out, right? I know it's hard to imagine anything better than Cautionary Tales, but stick around. The final two episodes will wrap up the season remarkably well, answering several questions teased at since the very beginning. Some might even wonder why they didn't bother to mix parts of the ending in with the beginning. Could've helped remove some of the alienating aspects of the opening. While I agree with part of that statement, some parts are better left as is. For example, a lot of Nathan's character development this season was based around not knowing what had occurred to his brother. This made for some relatively deep psychological undertones that helped make him the standout this season. Of course, there were other parts. Like Matt Parkman raising Molly. Those made for some truly emotional scenes.

Despite Season 2's shortcomings, I have become increasingly fond of how much they were able to accomplish in just eleven episodes. A very well rounded eleven episodes I might add. Regardless, some attention must be given to some of its downfalls. First off, Hiro, Kensei, and Yaeko's storyline dragged on for far too long. The arc should have only taken two or three episodes at most. Not enough went on to warrant its appearance in the first seven episodes. On top of that, the romance was hardly convincing. Next, Adam Monroe should have been introduced much earlier, along with Peter's escape sequence. In turn, exposing Elle a bit earlier to the audience. All of this would have went a long way into making the season feel more dynamic.

A few other concerns include Elle's nature, did not seem quite as sadistic as they were trying to make her out to be, and Nikki. Granted, they were able to establish a bit of a connection later in the season, but I just felt not enough was covered to make us believe they were as important as their screen time suggested. Loose cannons if you will. Then again, the implications they leave have proven to be far more interesting.

Finally, there is but one last concern that need be raised: the lack of metaphors. Truly disheartening. Where's the cockroach? Where's the Nikki versus Jessica (Candice)? I miss them. I remember seeing Mr. Cockroach once. Can't remember past that. Will have to see again. Maybe I missed them.

In the end, I was pleasantly surprised by this season. Couldn't be happier, given the circumstances. The Blu-Ray itself is astonishing. Nice use of grain; accents the drama unfolding on screen. Rich colors decorate the world, capturing all the vibrant details from every corner of the Earth. I cannot say enough good things about the Picture Quality, let alone the Audio. Owning this season on Blu-Ray makes it that much better. Of course, you should start with the beginning, if you haven't already. Don't worry, you'll be caught up in no time. It only took me four weeks: including both seasons. Yes, I do have a job and am attending classes. Don't ask me how I did it. Just prepare to sign your life away. Once you see Heroes, you won't be able to think about anything else.

This is one of my most cherished Blu-Rays, along with Season 1. It doesn't get better than this. Both seasons come highly recommended.

Best Television Comedy Series 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Our family has decided that this series is by far the best television comedy EVER! Yes, the subject is controversial, but our appreciation for the comedic acting talent and writing just increases with each episode. Really! The stage presence of the main actors is so good! We would have loved to see any of them on the live theater stage! This season's episodes are a big edgier than the earlier seasons. The characters have been developed, and yet as WW II grew darker, so must the attitude of Hogan and his men. But the hilarity of the zany capers they pull off is still in fine form. We endorse this comedy series to any family for fun television "togetherness". In fact, our son says this is his favorite season of all of them.

Best season of all... 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I love Hogans Heroes, and this season is my favorite. If you haven't bought a HH season yet, buy this first. Why? Because it is the best season of all and has the best episode of the series "Art for Hogan's Sake."

It is hard to imagine HH without all of the main characters, that is why the final season without Kinchlow is the least favorite of mine. HH#2 is the most original and most humorous of all. (But all of the others are VERY enjoyable as well.) You will be able watch these over and over again. They are all family friendly...unless you don't want your kids watching Hogan kiss a girl in every episode.

"CBS Presents This Program In Color" 5 out of 5 stars.

It's great to see this second season of Hogan's Heroes so perfectly intact, that each episode still wears the network announcement that it is in color (which also appears at the beginning of 31 of 32 first season DVD shows). By (1966-67) all prime time television was broadcast in color, though during season one (1965-66) Hogan in color was up against ABC's The Addams Family in black and white on Friday nights. Season two of Hogan's Heroes is just as brilliant as season one. Watching the episodes in chronolgical order, it's evident that Hogan's Heroes hit it's stride from the very beginning.

Too implausible and unrealistic in year 5.... poor direction... 2 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Have to agree with the other 2 star person- it was going downhill. Poor direction and very implausible ideas even for HH standards. Episode 1 year 5 - Hogan directs a propaganda film!!! Just too much of a stretch. The previous years were more realistic so you could believe in the comedy. It's almost like the POWS had free run of the camp whereas in previous years they had to work more and finagle more to achieve their schemes. To me the main comedy potential of HH is how the POWS improvise and negotiate to improve their conditions; even the smallest conditions. Year 5 it is almost as though they have as much power as the Nazis.

I have not seen year 4 and hoping it is better. Borders only had year 5 so that is why I bought it. Years 1-3 are priceless of course. Now I understand why it was canceled after 6 years. Sad but I am a huge HH fan.
