I'm very pleased with this DVD, which actually contains two programs: "Secrets of the Koran" and, as a bonus feature, "Muhammad" from A&E's "Biography" series. I've been using excerpts from both of these programs in teaching undergraduate courses on world religions. Both programs honor the Muslim tradition of not depicting Muhammad or members of his immediate family.
"SECRETS OF THE KORAN" (91 min.) is an excellent documentary on the history of the Koran and its interpretation. Topics include the religious and social milieu into which Muhammad was born; the life of Muhammad and the revelation of the verses of the Koran; the early Muslim community; the compilation of the Koran; the Koran's relationship to Jewish and Christian revelations; the Muslim understanding of the apocalypse and judgment; difficulties in the interpretation of the Koran; jihad; the Koran's emphasis on the value of knowledge; the golden age of Islam; the Crusades; Islamic fundamentalism; and violent vs. peaceful understandings of the message of the Koran.
"MUHAMMAD" (42 min.) isn't a biography precisely. Rather, it's a presentation of the traditional story of the life of Muhammad, with commentary by scholars who are Muslim or sympathetic to Islam (including two of the usual suspects, Karen Armstrong and John Esposito). This program does a good job of bringing the story of Muhammad to life, and because it's so concise, it may be more useful in my teaching than "The Message" (a three-hour movie about the life of Muhammad), which is also good.

A well done 100 minute replay of the History Channel 2 part series on the Templars. This is relatively pure history, and doesn't have much in the way of strange or unsubstantiated theories - and to the extent it does, they are identified as such. If you are looking for a balanced and generally accurate rendering of Templar history, watch this special.

If ever there was a documentary about the Bermuda triangle,this would be it!From the beginning this documentary sets the tone for the rest of the hour plus.From the earliest reports of missing ships of old to missing planes of the present,this one covers it all.I must say I have a bias to this dvd as it really covered in depth the disappearance of flight 19.Every possible theory is covered and explained to great detail.The viewer will be able to follow it through to the end.I would highly recommended this dvd to anyone wanting to begin their exploration of all things un-explainable,hope that made sense!).

I watched this dvd on the history channel and I have to say it is so far from the truth it is funny. It leaves out the most famus of all time Rabi's and shows the modern day story as if Beurg is the only one trying to spred the word of kabbalah and that is false as well. Dr.Laitman who studdied under Rabi Ashlag the son of the Bal hasulam has Kabbalah classes every day of the week and for free all materials used are free and he has embodied the true message of Kabbalah and alturisum by doing so. Any time you put a price tag on the studies of Kabbalah you deform the true messages that kabbalah has and sends. this dvd is a waist of time and money if you wish to see the truth about kabbalah go to [...] and see first hand what ture kabbalaist are doing and saying. who knows you might become one too. A lot of cable companies show documentaries right when movies are released. "The Real 300," "The Truth Behind Amistad," "Cinderella Man Himself," etc. I don't know of the film companies push the cable companies to do it or vice versa. But this documentary is clearly meant to get viewers to see or rent Nick Cage's film. It also has a "Da Vinci Code" vibe/imitation in it too.
The narrator says, "There are many 13's on the dollar bill. It must be because of the freemasons." Hello! There were originally 13 colonies. Why can't that be the reason?
The work did not make me want to study the dollar bills in my pocket. It didn't make me think, "Wow! Our American currency is just so awesome!" It really just reminded me of that "Simpsons" episode with Patrick Stewart where a secret society becomes the "No-Homers."
