Gave the Planet Earth DVD to my 9 yr. old grandson for Christmas. He absolutely loves it. I watched a few of the Dvd's and the photography is spectacular. I recommend this for everyone.

The DVDs for Planet Earth were shrink-wrapped for my gift giving. The set looked complete and in fine form after my friend opened it. Thanks.

Never received product 1 out of 5 stars.

I ordered this product on December 6. After I placed the order it said that due to the sellers history this would not make it by Christmas. As this was a Christmas gift I was now left to find a new gift. To this date, I still have not received the product but the seller received his money promptly. I have filed a claim against the seller. This was my first experience with a bad item, but I have always bought from Amazon directly and never a seller. I recently bought something else from another seller and we will see how that goes, but at this point it hasn't shipped when it said it would. I'll stick to Amazon directly from now on.

Blu-ray version is stunning 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Although it's not 1080p but 1080i the picture quality is amazing. There are some shots that literally take your breath away. Galapagos shoreline, the colors of the rocks under the sea. I didn't watch it on DVD, only on Blu-ray so I don't know how this would be without those images.

If you own a blu-ray player and an hd tv then you must buy this disc.

just as good as Planet Earth 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Honestly - I feel angry I didn't know about this before. I have almost worn out my Planet Earth box set in Blu Ray.

Galapagos is just as spectacular visually. It's nice to really get into a wonderful place like these islands. Planet Earth had to just touch on certain areas, but this really gets into it. It's wonderful.

I highly rec it to anyone, young or old. If you liked Planet Earth, you will love this.

    A great journey !!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This serie of the Galapagos islands is truly amazing, I can watch it in days and never get bored, top quality and top brief narator. A three stories merged in one. A must have ! Greetings from Macedonia ! Blu-ray is conquering the world with these discs.

Awesome and Beautiful 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I first saw Blue Planet on the Discovery channel... years ago and I absolutely fell in love with it. It is one of the most beautifully filmed documentaries and I think only Planet Earth (ironically) surpasses it in that beauty. I have also always loved David Attenborough, who has a way of really bringing the majesty of whatever you are watching into your home. This series is educational and beautiful to the point of tears. This is a must for any DVD library and I would highly recommend Planet Earth as well.

Beautiful but preachy 2 out of 5 stars.
4 of 19 people found this review helpful.

The potential of this beautifully filmed show is seriously tarnished by the preachy 'humans suck' message. I get enough of this in my daily life. I'd rather not have it fed to me in every single movie, TV show, etc... that I watch. I watch these things to get away from reality for a few minutes...

Blue Planet..Awesome and uplifting 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I hesitated for a long time before making this purchase...now I know I should have bought this instead of something else. I can ignore the 'facts' about the age of the corals etc...this documentary is truly inspiring, uplifting and eye-opening. Sea creatures I never thought possible, amusing mating styles, and much more...and the narrator is excellent. Relaxing end of day edutainment for me...I'll be watching these over and over again. Thanks BBC.

This gives a great overview of planet earth wildlife. If you like nature filming you must see this. Extraordinary work. Excellent.

An incredibly eye-opening series 5 out of 5 stars.

I have always loved watching shows about nature and wildlife, and if you're the same way, this is a great set of DVD's to buy. The "Planet Eart" series covers a remarkably wide range of locations and species in 5 DVD's, and while they do show many of people's favorite species and ecosystems (e.g. lions, elephants), the series also looks into areas less researched in past documentaries, revealing some bizarre animals and their ecosystems (e.g. caves, deserts). With the "Blue Planet" series, you'll see more in-depth footage of sea life that you most-likely have never seen before (I was shocked by the technique Killer Whales used in their hunt). Overall, I think this is a great purchase for anyone who enjoys learning about and appreciating nature, especially at this discounted price.

blu ray 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 19 people found this review helpful.

As of this writing I have only previewed each disc in the collection. "Planet Earth" comes w/4 discs and is displayed in 1080 Progressive Scan. The remaining discs in the collection are in 1080i, however, I can see no remarkable difference. There is, however, a marked difference between DVD and Blu-Ray. This collection needs to be seen in Bluray to fully appreciate it's potential. So far, all discs are of the highest quality and interestingly narrated; As good as, or better, than the very best nature documentary one has ever seen on television. Well worth the price for the amount of high-quality footage (over 1000 minutes); Can easily be viewed more than once, especially by children...There is no price difference whether you buy these sets individually or in this box set---this way, though, they come in their individually marked plastic cases, and all 4 boxes fit into the pictured cardboard case.

Great HD footage. 5 out of 5 stars.

    Birds/Attenborough 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Well, this is one of the BEST of all, retrospectives .. IMHO. Attenborough and his camera-team have explored many aspects of the aviary world .. and the results are VERY-exceptional. THIS is a first-class type ... of examples of info/documentations .. of any sort.

Spectacular 5 out of 5 stars.

This DVD set has some absolutely incredible footage of birds, and David Attenborough's commentary is informative and entertaining. A must-have for bird-lovers and lovers of nature in general.

Best $ ever spent on a bird video 5 out of 5 stars.

The Life of BirdsThis 3 disc set is the most amazing video of birds my husband and I have ever watched. The video footage of everything from mating rituals to building nests, bird calls, finding food, well, the whole set of videos is worth every penny. Buy it and see things you never dreamed of seeing in the bird world.

FORMIDABLE!! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Another winner! All previous reviews say almost everything that has to be said about this wonderful DVD to convince a buyer to purchase it. For reptile lovers, this is the BBC's top production and probably the only one featuring Mr Attenborough speaking exclusively on cold blooded creatures. From the other reviews it is not clear what kind of animals are filmed, well the answer is simple: All kinds of the reptiles and amphibians participate in this fascinating documentary; from frogs, caecilians and geckos through crocodiles, snakes and turtles. Absolutely stunning!. If you liked the series from "Planet Earth", "Blue Planet" or "Life in the Undergrowth", this DVD is for you. The BBC's missing documentary on animals is finally here; enjoy the cold blooded creatures. It deserves a ten star rating, indeed!

Entertaining and Educational! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Life in Cold Blood is actually a set of documentaries that bring to life some of the most fascinating creatures on earth: amphibians and reptiles.
The amount of effort and research put into this project, along with the latest in technology equipment, helps transport the viewer to the creatures' natural habitat creating a strong sense of excitement and anticipation.
Moreover, David Attenborough's narrative abilities are the cherry on the cake in what can only be described as flawless work. In short, he does a great job of presenting these magnificent and sometimes terrifying creatures.
Strongly recommended, for those with a soft spot for all things natural, along with the National Geographic's Search for the Ultimate Survivor, Chased by Sea Monsters, and the Walking with Dinosaurs, Walking with Beasts and Walking with Cavemen series. 5 Stars!

1080i not 1080p and a bit lack luster 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I was looking forward to this Blu ray having previously seen Ganges and Wild China. Earth was not in their league. It was if the BBC had subcontracted the task out, and the film makers took short cuts on the quality. The host is also a little annoying I feel. He comes across as if he's over doing it a bit.

So even though it was very educational, with the message not to worry, once we're all dead the Earth will still be here, I was not totally entertained in the manner previous shows had. So three stars.

Shape up BBC, we're used to the best !

Another EPIC from BBC 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

In the beginning there was Planet Earth.. now there is Earth: The Biography. As a child I grew up being immersed in the physical geography and the birth of the earth.

Beautifully described via CG on plate tectonics and volcanoes, the destructive power of ice and water, and the vital importance of the the atmosphere.

For those that have watched the Life of Series by David Attenborough, will notice repeated footage those series, as well as repeated footage from Planet Earth, and Ganges.

Despite the various comments that this is a standard definition presentation by BBC, when I play it on my PS3, I am getting 1080i and not 420p, as some have remarked. Not true 1080p, but nonetheless stunning.

Great addition to my collection of BBC and Nat Geo documentaries.
