The Show is GREAT, but the DVD is not 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The episodes were very good, but the quality of the picture and sound, while not nearly as bad as season 4's, were not as good as seasons 1&2. I had to return this set, because disc 3 was defective, and would not even play. Amazon was good and quick getting a replacement sent. I hope season 5 will be a lot better.

i love it 5 out of 5 stars.

I am German and I was pretty happy to find this show at amazon.com. In Germany this show is not going to be released on DVD.
The quality of the DVD is pretty good. I was told that the sound quality was poor, but I cannot confirm that.
All in all I am higly satisfied and can hardly await the remaining seasons to be released on DVD

Fantastic Series!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Emergency really hit home with me when I was a kid because my Dad is a fireman/paramedic. It always made me feel like I could share a part of my Dad's work life because he was very quiet, at least around me, about the things that happened at work. As an adult, with a sister who is now in the department, watching this show is kinda funny because of how advanced we have become. (No longer are there separate ambulances that come to transport the patient to the hospital.) The scenery/costuming, etc. is also neat to me because it is so 70's. The special effects are cheesy because, again as an adult, I can tell it's not real, but to my eyes as a child, it was as real as could be. The actors, specifically Randolph Mantooth and Kevin Tighe, have great chemistry and worked well together. Keeping in mind that the show was set in the era of sex, drugs and rock n'roll, it's a really good show. Has some comedy and lots of drama/action. Anyone who likes the actors or anything to do with the fire department will most likely enjoy this series.

Third Times a Charm 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman has done it again. The third season is just as charming as the first two seasons. Michaela and Sully finally start their lives as a couple, go through some tough times in the process, and finally get married in the season finale. This DVD has excellent picture quality and an interactive Menu with summaries of each episode and the option of scene selection. It's a great installation for any Dr. Quinn fans who want to own the complete collection.

Editorial Review:

In an age when women are expected to be seen but not heard, Dr. Michaela "Mike" Quinn is a renegade, an independent spirit who forsakes her home in genteel Boston for the rough-and-tumble life of the frontier. But the prejudice she encountered back east pales in comparison to the challenges awaiting in Colorado Springs...

DR. QUINN, MEDICINE WOMAN breathed new life into a tired genre and brought families together around the TV for six seasons with its refreshing take on the Western, blending a distinctly modern sensibility with painstaking historical authenticity and tales of courage, conviction, and romance. This collection features all 25 episodes from the third season of the five-time Emmy Award winner starring Jane Seymour and Joe Lando, available on DVD for the first time.

War is Hell but MASH is Comedy Heaven 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

'MASH' is one of the finest American TV series ever to come out of the old network system. As practically everyone who searches Amazon for information on this great show will have undoubtably already read the excellent highlighted reviews, I'd like to add my case for starting your 'MASH' collection with this particular DVD set.

First, as this was the first season, the show has yet to fully evolve into what we all remember it as from syndication. There's an endless parade of cute young nurses, and multiple characters from the film appear here and nowhere else in the series. Also, much of the comedy leans toward what other military-based sitcoms had already done. Thus, certain things happen in this DVD set that we don't usually associate with MASH. I don't regard this as a debit as it keeps this particular box set from being predictable.

Second, continuing with the shock of surprise comes the revelation that the producers seldom insisted on period accuracy. The aforementioned nurses, for example, wear 'mod' hairstyles and Radar O'Reilly reads comic books that weren't published until the 1960s long after the Korean War was over. The nonconformist attitudes of many of the doctors is definitely not what one would have expected in the 1950s and neither are most of their haircuts. Back in the early 1970s, this might have been seen as a flaw. Today, it helps to remove the 'period piece' stigma that so many other early 1970s sitcoms suffer from. Coupled with the use of film stock rather than videotape and this is certainly one of the freshest-looking TV comedies over 30 years old.

Third, there's the opportunity to appreciate actors portray characters who either were not there for the full run of the series or who evolved into something very different. McLean Stevenson's Colonel Blake may never win awards as a model of military efficiency, but I sure would love to have someone that easygoing as my boss! Wayne Rogers' approach to Trapper John make him seem like Dean Martin to Alan Alda's Jerry Lewis-like Hawkeye Pierce. Gary Burghoff's early version of Radar O'Reilly is a very sly, shifty, deceptively dimwitted corporal who is far removed from the lovable innocent we all remember. And was there ever an actor better capable of playing a pompous twit than Larry Linville as Frank Burns? Linville also shows incredible ability as a straight man to both Rogers' and Alda's antics; the same jokes would likely fall flat without a steady straight man as a target.

On the downside there are no extras. We do get the chance to turn off the laughtrack, which makes the TV show seem even more cinematic than before. But there are no cast interviews (not even contemporary talk show interviews), no still galleries, no commentary tracks. We do get a mostly noninformative booklet with some tiny photos and a track listing, along with original airdates. I didn't feel cheated by this, as the price of the set makes it very affordable, but I do think it's a missed opportunity.

In sum, I was very impressed with how fresh 'MASH' is, and how nearly impossible it is to 'date' the series. The first season may not be as 'good' as the later ones, but to me the differences are so slight that this DVD set easily deserves 5 stars. I strongly suggest you start with this set and then work your way through the others in sequence.

Editorial Review:

Korea, 1950. They were a MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) unit stationed three miles from the front. Incoming helicopters full of wounded brought the horrors of war to them daily and sometimes bullets flew right outside the operating room door. Occasional hilarity and constant hijinks were all that kept them sane.

Loosely based on real-life MASH unit 8055, life at the 4077 revolved around the day-to-day routines of Captain "Hawkeye" Pierce, Captain "Trapper" McIntyre, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake, Major Margaret Houlihan, Major Franklin Burns and Corporal "Radar" O’Reilly. Through these characters, viewers traveled beyond the long hours and the horrors of the operating room to a place where friendships were forged, laughter was found and drinks were served.

The best season from my favorite tv show 5 out of 5 stars.

What's amazing about MASH is dispite all the changes made with their characters and cast, the show continued to be just as outstanding. All of the episodes in this season are great, especially "No Laughing Matter" where Hawkeye and BJ make a bet to see if Hawkeye could go a whole day without making a joke, and Charles gets even with Colonel Horace Baldwin, the man who sent him to the unit. If you are a Mash fan buy this season. You won't be disappointed.

MASH is one of those shows thats funny even if you were not yet born when the show was on the air. its just plain funny, even the more serious episodes when the show was in its later years were funny in their own way, MASH will never die.

Season 9 of MASH 4077th is extremely well written and as quick witted as all the other seasons. I thoroughly loved it from beginning to end. It is certainly easy to see why this show enjoyed such high ratings while it was on the air...

I'm an unabashed M*A*S*H addict. I own the whole series. Having them around is like having a candy bar hidden in the freezer. Highly recommended for those who still miss that extraordinary series -- a flower amongst the usual garbage of commercial TV.

Relive your favorite M*A*S*H moments with this three-disc DVD Collector's Edition containing all 21 classic Season Ten episodes! They were the 4077 MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) unit stationed three miles from the front during the Korean War. As the war drags on it begins to take a toll on the docs and nurses who day after day fight to save the incoming wounded helicoptered in directly from the front lines. But as much as the gang of the 4077 cared for the wounded soldiers they also cared about each other. And that camaraderie coupled with a liberal dose of hijinks and hilarity served to make their tour of duty in Korea an experience none of them would ever forget.System Requirements:Running Time: 561 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS UPC: 024543241409 Manufacturer No: 2234140

Dr. Quinn is just an amazing series. It has heart-warming thoughts as well as important issues that are pushing our world today. A truly unqieu show that anyone of all ages can enjoy. From Mike & Sully's romantic relationship, to their loving children, to the interesting and sometimes problem inducing towns people. Fun and easy to watch, grab it and sit down with family to enjoy a classic.

Editorial Review:

After a first season in which M*A*S*H barely rated among television's top fifty shows, the show received a boost in its second season when CBS switched their time slot to Saturday nights right after "All in the Family."

Knowing a lot of new people would be tuning in to the second season, creator/writer Larry Gelbart reveals, "We wrote the first episode as a sort of second pilot to introduce all the new viewers to the characters." Almost immediately after the second season began, the show became a hit-and the actors became household names.

Little did they know the show was going to last longer than the war itself.

A great Show, Season 3 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

MASH is one of my top 10 favorite TV Shows of all time and it is a joy to see the antics of these Mobile Army Surgical Hospital doctors. I am not a big fan of seasons 1-3 because the characters seem to too cartoonish for me and story lines seem a little weak. I guess the producers wanted to keep close to the movie which was a little on the corny side. With these faults, the show remains a classic for all generation and the dialogue is rather simple to understand. Season 3 finishes up the tone for the introduction part of the show to millions of viewers with the death of Lt. Col Henry Blake and Transfer of Capt. John McIntyre.

If I rated Films or TV Series based on whether I liked them, I would have rated the entire series a 5 or a 6, but I rarely do this. Each episode is high quality and the sound is great. They bring back the joy I originally had when I first saw them minus the commercials (which are really not that important.) One problem exists the DVD itself dose not have a lot of features. You can not "play all", there are no filmographies or even a list of the extra and cameos that made M*A*S*H one of the best shows. It would have been more interesting to see where all those extras went off to do.

I highly recommend the series with these limitations.

Enjoy

Editorial Review:

By the show’s third year ratings were high enough to give the writers and creators more leverage with the network and thus a bit less trouble with the censors. In addition, the show’s writers were more experienced with the TV format and had more in-depth knowledge of the characters. By this time they could also gauge how much serious material the audience would accept mixed in with their comedy.

But most importantly, between the second and third seasons Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds visited Korea, a trip that they say affected the stories in the third season.
