McHale's Navy - The Final Season! 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 15 people found this review helpful.

The phrase "shape up or ship out" holds a lot of water this season for Lt. Commander Quinton McHale and his fun-lovin' PT 73 crew of goof-offs and gamblers who were transferred to Italy for the show's final 30 episodes in McHale's Navy - Season Four!

After 3 seasons set on the South Pacific island of Taratupa, "McHale and his pirates" are reassigned to duty near the town of Voltafiore where they run afoul the shady Mayor Lugatto (Jay Novello) while continuing to oppose blustery Captain Binghamton and his jittery aide Lt. Carpenter, who are joined this season by Colonel Harrigan (Henry Beckham) and General Bronson (Simon Scott).

Also joining in on Season Four's capers, schemes and hijinks is local Dino Barone (Dick Wilson). As with co-star Tim Conway in Season Three, star Ernest Borgnine also gets to pull double duty this season in a [recurring] dual role as Guiseppe, McHale's italian lookalike cousin in "Guiseppe McHale" and "The Return of Guiseppe".

Guest stars include Jackie Joseph (The Little Shop of Horrors, Josie and the Pussycats), Pat Harrington Jr. (One Day At a Time, The Inspector) and legendary Don Knotts (The Andy Griffith Show, Three's Company).

McHale's Navy, with 138 episodes aired over four seasons (1962-1966), is one of television's longer-lasting military comedies and a classic B&W sitcom favorite of mine. Today you can preserve this classic B&W series in pristine DVD format.

The Shout! Factory release of McHale's Navy - Season Four is a 5-disc (750 min.) set featuring all 30 episodes in Full Frame (1.33:1) video and English mono audio. Here are the episodes and how the discs will be configured, plus original airdates:

I just love the old TV shows and McHale's Navy is one of the funniest.

Classic Tv 5 out of 5 stars.

One of the classic shows from the sixties - a more innocent time for television. A must see - even if you didn't watch during it's broadcast run.

McHale's Navy Season One 1 out of 5 stars.

The shows are good, however to have to endure a solid five minute advertisment is beyond our endurance. If we wanted to order "That Girl", "I Spy", etc we would NOT order from this company. Each and every time we want to watch a thirty minute McHale's Navy we have to grit our teeth for five minutes. Cannot speed up, or get around it.

McHale' Navy - 1st Season 4 out of 5 stars.

Great nostalgia! Tim Conway at his best; amazing the racial slurs against Japanese nationals that were included in the dialogue -- all of which would be highly insenstive by today's standards

McHale's Navy Season One 3 out of 5 stars.

I have seen these old shows many times but always ejoyed the simple laughs and entertainment they provided. I knew exactly what I was buying and I am glad that I did. I particularly like that they are uncut and free of commercial advertising. A lot of fun to watch.

Hilarious! 5 out of 5 stars.

In the second season, the producers of this show figured out where success for the show was to be found--and it shows in the opening credits: Captain Binghamton (Joe Flynn) and Ensign Parker (Tim Conway) are featured right after McHale. Even though McHale is supposedly the star character, it's really Parker who carries this show. Binghamton is only slightly less important. The interplay between these two makes for a very funny show. I've almost busted a gut several times watching these two idiots! The others of McHale's group are now assigned a pecking order, with Gruber, who probaby could have carried the show by himself, becoming the lead navy-man. Happy (Gavin MacLeod) is mercifully relegated to low man on the totem pole (doesn't he leave the show in a year or two?). This is good, clean family fun and it's a riot. Get it and enjoy.
BTW, I have had no problems with the production value. Sound and picture have been great. Can hardly wait for season three.

Of course there are some old stereotypes & politically incorrect language ("Japs") but nothing is meant in a mean-spirited way. If this doesn't horrify you & you like slapstick plots you'll like McHale.

McHale's Navy 5 out of 5 stars.

This season is typical of the series. It is funny, touching, and ridiculous, and we love it.

Really Enjoyed Watching These Episodes 5 out of 5 stars.

I have been a great fan of McHale's Navy for many, many years and this third season set still makes me laugh. I must have watched these episodes quite a few times now since I have bought the series set. Gavin McLeod as Seaman 'Happy' Haynes is gone but the on-going duel of wits between LTCOMDR McHale (Ernest Borgnine), ably (?) assisted by his stumbling Executive Officer, Ensign Parker (Tim Conway), and Captain Binghamton (Joe Flynn), with HIS stumbling Aide Lt. Carpenter (Bob Hastings); are what makes each episode. The conniving and scheming goes on relentlessly, as McHale always comes out just ahead of his CO.

With the release of Season Four-set in Italy; I hope that the Shout Factory will follow up with putting the two movies, which this series spawned, onto DVD for those of us who continue to enjoy this classic tv series, so we can have the complete McHale's Navy!

so its in color, so what? hurry up with season four already! 5 out of 5 stars.

well its now july, no mention of season four where as if it was on schedule would be out in beginning of september. yet they show all the way into october for mission impossible season five, which is nice, but anyway, this first season available in color. man it proves they just milked wallets to sell the b/w seasons, if they didnt have that rotten intention, they would have done like they did with the first two seasons of i dream of jeannie, offer b/w and color at the same time! and besides, its a show with tan bland navy uniforms mostly, a gray boat, gray huts... haha not quite like REAL colorful shows like batman and star trek. hurry up and get season four out, shout factory! we arent getting any younger now! batfink and milton the monster were killer releases of obscure cartoons! keep going on that strain too! come on, do those classic depatie/freleng ones, super president!!!! barkleys! do SOMETHING! :<|

Still Great After All These Years 5 out of 5 stars.

McHale's Navy appeared on TV in Australia for many years and I still love sitting back watching these episodes when I have some free time, I've even carted these around the world on my work travels. The three main characters, LT-Commander McHale (Ernest Borgnine), Ensign Parker (Tim Conway) and Captain Binghamton (Joe Flynn) and their encounters with one another are what makes the show. Captain Binghamton's constant attempts to get rid of 'McHale and his pirates' always ends in failure.

This DVD also has a reunion of some of the crew members, after some forty years, in a special interview.

For anyone who's a McHale's Navy fan, you need to have this set in your collection.
