Christmas blessings??? 3 out of 5 stars.

My 11 yr. old son and I watched this movie to get into the spirit of Christmas. Well, we ended up needing a box of tissues! It is a nice story, but it is sad. Many people unfortunately, do experience such holidays, but there is some good that comes out of heartache...

Not a great movie!!!! 1 out of 5 stars.

This movie was totally unrealistic. The whole show takes place within a short period yet four people fall in love, a little boy wins the hearts of two people, and a liver transplant gets diagnosed, an operation takes place and a recovery all just a few weeks before Christmas. It is not realistic at all. The writers didn't even show time passing to make it more believable. Also the man goes home because he decides he doesn't want to be a doctor anymore. Well it seemed like he lived a long ways away (at least in another town). Yet when someone is sick he takes them to his hospital where he worked even though it is a life and death situation. Also the little boy goes to the hospital to see his teacher and how does he get there? The whole movie is like that: very unrealistic.

Not The Everyman's Emma 5 out of 5 stars.

I think, to a certain degree, comparison with Douglas McGrath's 1996 movie featuring Gwyneth Paltrow is inevitable. However, I must alert my reader to the fact that - when I praise this alternate version from Diarmuid Lawrence - I do so with the original novel in mind. This mini-series has not a movie's glamour, nor does Kate Beckinsale match Paltrow in beauty. However, with regards to Jane Austen's beloved work, this is undoubtedly the more faithful adaptation. Beckinsale's portrayal is less flighty and silly then Paltrow's... she carries the character's grace perfectly in every scene. The superb Samantha Morton, despite her slimness, is a perfect Harriet Smith; it is hard to make so stupid a girl endearing, but Morton does it with such apparent ease even her must enthusiastic fans must believe what they see. Lucy Robinson (better known by most as Mrs. Hurst from Simon Langton's 1995 "Pride and Prejudice") is so wonderfully obnoxious she almost undoes Mrs. Elton, who should be unbearable, but is instead wonderfully entertaining in both vanity and snobbery. Olivia Williams (The Jane Austen of Jeremy Lovering's "Miss Austen Regrets") is truly beautiful... more beautiful perhaps then the title character. What is more, she sings like a nightingale! Together with Raymond Coulthard as Frank Churchill (who is almost too charming to garner dislike as he should), the two make an astonishingly handsome couple. Mark Strong is not a very polished Mr. Knightley, but he plays the part admirably, with feeling, and with forethought which is apparent in his actions as well as his expressions. Even Prunella Scales, who must compete with Sophie Thompson for the title of "Best Miss Bates" withstands all independent criticism. Despite being somewhat rough, the production values grow better upon review... those subtleties in the use of music, camera-shot etc will become more evident and thereby easier to appreciate. Truly rewarding, for those who will properly attend to it.

Love It! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I purchased the VHS version several years ago and watched it last night for the first time in a long time. I remember having seen the movie when it was originally broadcast on NBC back in the late 90s.

For anyone who is a fan of Motown, the Temptations, music from the 50s-60s era - this is a must see! The movie begins in 1957 and chronicles the history not only of the Temptations but includes a lot of Motown history as well. The music is out of this world!

Because I'd seen the show when it was originally aired on TV, I realized that some key scenes had been excluded from the VHS; this was very disappointing. Note that the special was broadcast on two nights at 2 hours each and the VHS is only 2-1/2 hours long, you can figure that quite a bit had been cut. The pacing seems too quick on the VHS and you get the feeling that you missed something. Case in point: There is a scene that had been cut from the VHS that shows Paul Williams in the early years refusing a beer and drinking milk instead. But in the VHS version, the viewer is unaware of Paul's uncharacteristic descent into alcholism until later when his problem is obvious and one of the band members comments that Paul used to refuse to drink. When Otis informs the band (then called the Elgins) that they needed to come up with a new name before Mr. Gordy would allow them to audition, the boys banter names back and forth along the sidewalk in front of Hitsville U.S.A. Their struggle to think of a name was the scene that was cut and I no longer remember which one of the group came up with the Temptations. Anyway, that's just a small sampling of deleted scenes. There were many others.

I was pleasantly surprised to read in another viewer's review that the DVD contains the full version. It is well worth purchasing the film again just to have the full version, so I'm clicking this gem into my cart.

In closing, I think it should be mentioned that the movie was based upon a book by Otis Williams and that the story is told from his perspective. Although I loved their music, I was totally unaware of what went on behind-the-scenes. Sometimes fame exacts a terrible price from those who are unable to handle it.

Emotionally charged 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

No, it's not quite like the book. Is any movie as great as the book? I, too, enjoyed the earlier film version of this. The lighting and scenery are more beautiful than this one. However, I really enjoyed this version. The ordinary way it was presented made it feel more real, like I was there instead of watching a movie. I'm not an Austen expert, but having read the book I thought it captured the spirit of it. Captain Wentworth was SMOKIN', plus I identified with Anne immediately. It ended wonderfully despite the marathon Anne ran, and the kiss was worth the hour spent. The acting is good, the story is great, it's a good time to be had by all. If you are a purist go spend the time reading the novel, but if you want a relaxing hour of well written characters and a heart-wrenching story you've come to the right place.

Editorial Review:

Jane Austen’s romantic masterpiece comes to DVD in a thrilling new production from the BBC and Masterpiece Theatre. Anne Elliot fell deeply in love with the handsome young naval officer Frederick Wentworth at the age of nineteen. But with neither fortune nor rank to recommend him, Anne was persuaded to break off her engagement. Eight years later, Anne has lived to regret her decision. She never stopped loving Wentworth, and when he returns from sea with a fortune and rank, she can only watch as every eligible young woman in the district falls at his feet.

Esta pelicula es muy buena, al igual que todas las anteriores de la serie.

Esta es una serie que vale la pena verla completa.

Some good scenes 3 out of 5 stars.

This one is not as good as the others, but there are some good scenes. The acting is not up to the others, and the direction is poor. If you have seen the others in this series, this will provide some interest. I would have liked to see a better actress playing the lead. This one seems to have one tone of voice and tends to overact. The supporting cast is better than she is!!

Wonderful, Romantic, & Encouraging Movie 5 out of 5 stars.

Love's Unfolding Dream is a wonderful film based on the books of Janette Oke, an excellent writer of solid and heartwarming stories. In Love's Unfolding Dream, Belinda, Missy's adopted daughter, dreams of one day becoming a doctor. Unfortunately Belinda lives in a time when women doctors were unheard of and shunned. Unfazed, Belinda still dreams of one day attending college and medical school and returning to her hometown as a doctor. She eventually becomes the unspoken assistant to the town's doctor while administering therapy to a wealthy and opinionated stroke victim, who we later find out has lived through much tragedy in her own life. Along the way, a handsome lawyer comes to town and makes Belinda question her dreams, aspirations, and God's plan for her life.

I read Janette Oke's books as a teenager and found them all to be wonderful. This series of films based on the books are just as wonderful and I would highly recommend the entire family-oriented series! You won't be disappointed!

Editorial Review:

Based on the book from award-winning author Janette Oke comes the next chapter of the Love series and introduces audiences to the new generation when Missie's daughter Belinda struggles with her dreams of becoming a doctor and her feelings for a newcomer in town.

the real Gia was not portrayed well 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Anjolina Jolie did a wonderful job with this role however the writers took a lot of liberties with Gia's life. Everyone makes her mom seem like the bad guy but Gia's issues ran deeper than the lack of her mother's love like the writers want the public to believe. Gia was most likely bipolar which little was done for or known about in the 80's. Gia was a truly beautiful woman but I would wager that she thought and felt as though she were a man. Today we have a label for what I think she was and that is Transgendered. If she were born in the 80's, she would most likely be alive today with medication and a better understanding of who she really is.

Super Movie 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This movie is really good to have. It really brings home again how terrible a thing it was about the Nazis killing the Jews. A good movie to make a older teenage sit down and watch to understand history's violence and agression.

The blind leading...the vicious 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I'm not certain what I can add that hasn't already been said -- so eloquently -- about this film. After seeing a film with someone, you might be tempted to ask that person, "Did you enjoy the movie?" This isn't a movie to be enjoyed; rather, it is an experience to be remembered and talked about. Needless to say, the acting is superb, as is the script. For me, I take note of what is said non-verbally...

When Heydrich tells Kritzinger that the Fuhrer will "continue to deny" any planning or intent to commit genocide no matter how many times Kritzinger broaches the subject with Hitler -- the look on Kritzinger's face is one of a man who has just had his rose-colored glasses ripped torn off and crushed in front of him. There could be no more rationalizations, no more putting on blinders. They weren't there to discuss anything. Kritzinger was there to listen...and obey.

A scene near the end -- mentioned by other reviewers -- where Heydrich gives Kritzinger his, "Oh, you'll answer now or you'll answer...later" ultimatum, you can see that the latter is totally deflated. He has become useless as a voice of reason. And his previously role as such a "statesman" was perfectly described by Heydrich when he told him, "And your philosophy is what -- hound them, improverish them, exploit them, imprison them, but do not kill them. And you are God's noblest of men. I find that very remarkable." Although Kritzinger murmured a feeble objection, he had to realize that he had been an instrument in the Nazis finally descending to the point of industrial age barbarism, complete with busload-sized ovens.

Finally, Klopfer's reaction to Eichmann's revelation that their latest version of "evacuating the Jews" would kill 2,500 defenseless men, women, and children per hour was...riveting. You could almost see in that pig's expression his attempt to visualize the slaughter.

The symbolic act of knocking on wood took on a whole new meaning for me after watching this movie.

And watch it, you should.

Tom Selleck IS Stone 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Tom Selleck is always interesting to watch and add in the fact that these films are well made, well written and well acted, one could become addicted to the Jesse Stone stories. I wish there were more of them.

Editorial Review:

Selleck plays the role of Jesse Stone, a former Los Angeles homicide detective who left California and his ex-wife to become the police chief in a small New England town. Among his many character flaws are his struggles with a drinking problem and lingering feelings for his ex-wife.

Jesse Stone: Death in Paradise Co-starring William Devane (TV’s "Knot’s Landing"), the TV movie finds Chief Stone (Selleck) settling into his new life in Paradise when he becomes obsessed with finding the killer of a teenage girl. His quest to solve the murder unearths facts indicating there is more to the girl’s history than originally suspected and the new clues lead him to probe the Boston underworld.

DVD Special Features for Jesse Stone: Night Passage Include: Digitally Mastered Audio and Video, Widescreen Presentations, Audio: English, French, Portuguese, Thai, Subtitles: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Thai, Bonus Previews, Closed Captioned
