Editorial Review:

Australian writer/performer Chris Lilley specializes in the comedy of narcissism. All three of his characters in the mockumentary series Summer Heights High are blindly, maddeningly self-absorbed: Mr. G, a drama teacher who writes and directs his own musicals; Ja'mie, a preening 16-year-old from a wealthy private school who views her year at public school as purgatory; and Jonah, a Tongan juvenile delinquent who's been previously expelled from two other schools. The series' 8 episodes follow these three as they seek to find some form of fame and adulation. Mr. G struggles to create a musical about a student who recently died of a drug overdose... only it becomes increasingly about a heroic drama teacher whose dog dies in an accident; Ja'mie desperately wants to stage a formal dance and will lie, bribe, and manipulate to do it; and Jonah wants to do breakdancing with his posse, but he's simply incapable of keeping himself from insulting his teachers and getting into fights with other students. While Mr. G and Ja'mie are blinkered monsters, Jonah verges on tragic, as he stumbles towards increasing self-destruction. The thoroughness of Lilley's creations is impressive, as the comedian loses himself fully in these characters. Still, some viewers may find them more aggravating than funny; just a hint of self-awareness might have made them a little easier to spend time with. But for anyone who connects with Lilley's humor, Summer Heights High will be a feast of juicy, unfiltered, rampaging egomania. --Bret Fetzer

Editorial Review:

Inspired by Dee Brown's acclaimed bestseller, the HBO Films event begins powerfully with the Sioux triumph over General Custer at Little Big Horn. The action centers on the struggles of three characters: Charles Eastman (Adam Beach, FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS), a young, Dartmouth-educated Sioux doctor; Sitting Bull (August Schellenberg, THE NEW WORLD), the proud Lakota chief who refuses to submit to U.S. government policies designed to strip his people of their identity, dignity and sacred land; and Senator Henry Dawes (Aidan Quinn, EMPIRE FALLS), one of the men responsible for the government policy on Indian affairs. While Eastman and schoolteacher Elaine Goodale (Anna Paquin, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND), work to improve life for the Sioux on the reservation, Senator Dawes lobbies President Grant for kinder Indian treatment. Epic in scope, BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE is a new Western classic called "...insightful...deeply affecting...visually striking" by The Washington Post.

A Masterpiece 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I obviously don't own this yet but own all boxsets up till now and having watched the new episodes a number of times it is a superb climax to what is possibly the greatest TV show while not hitting the highs of series five it still remains quality throughout with the last two episodes in particular being fantastic.

Thanks HBO for the series...but 4 out of 5 stars.

Greetings to all Sopranos fans out there. I really wish not to spoil anything for your folks while reading this but as a fan i can assure you disapointment.

i had actually waited till the BD version of season 6 parts 1 & 2 came out. Never read or bothered to ask anyone what happend in the end of this amazing saga.

Just today i finished watching both parts and honeslty i was shocked by disapointment on 2 levels:
1) the ending seemed like not an ending but some leaway for possibly bringing it back, (wishful thinking)
2) very poor special features on the last disk. (even the commentay was not there for the last episode.)

i mean i am still a fan and will be forever but i dont know i felt like ...there is still something. The cat staring @ Chris's picture @ the Badda Bing back room and the way T sort of ....well i will stop here.

Thanks HBO for all these years of an amazing series. It was terrific but the ending episode did not do it for me. I hope they release some sort of speical edition work around the episoeds or something. I feel there is something missing still even after: MADE IN AMERICA!

Last year, Tony Soprano cheated death when he was shot by his now institutionalized Uncle Junior. While Tony continues to muse about his second chance at life, he faces a myriad of immediate, stress-inducing crises at home, at work and from the law. Tony's wife Carmela plans for a future she's not sure will arrive, and son AJ and daughter Meadow find that adulthood holds its own surprises. Meanwhile, at work, Tony comes to doubt the allegiances of many of those closest to him ¿ no one, not Paulie, Bobby, Silvio or even Christopher is above suspicion. The clock is ticking. Time is running out. But on who?

This DVD is by far one of Dana Carvey's best efforts. It is extremely funny! He captures the moment of political satire to a tee! Well worth watching again and again!

Laugh your butt off funny! 5 out of 5 stars.

This movie has become the highlight of my life! The bits about disorganized religion and the Regan Oracle will have you laughing your butt off! Dana Carvey has really outdone himself this time.

Sit back and take a hit Spunker!

DANA JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER 5 out of 5 stars.

We started taping this about a quarter of the way through on HBO, and have practically worn it out since! Dana is at the top of his game. Funny, quick, spot-on. Like fine wine, he seems to get better with age. I can't WAIT to see it from the beginning! Go Dana!

I LOVE IT!! 4 out of 5 stars.

I bought this CD after seeing Carvey on Jay Leno. I will watch it many times over when I need a guaranteed LAUGH!! ...from beginning to end and the deleted material - it's a Great Buy. I've ordered 2 more for friends.

Awesome! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a must see! The first time I watched it on HBO I thought that was pretty good. But then it sank-in. I've watched it several times, ordered the DVD and sent the DVD to other people.

Editorial Review:

Based on David McCullough's bestselling biography, the HBO miniseries John Adams is the furthest thing from a starry-eyed look at America's founding fathers and the brutal path to independence. Adams (Paul Giamatti), second president of the United States, is portrayed as a skilled orator and principled attorney whose preference for justice over anti-English passions earns enemies. But he also gains the esteem of the first national government of the United States, i.e., the Continental Congress, which seeks non-firebrands capable of making a reasoned if powerful case for America's break from England's monarchy. The first thing one notices about John Adams' dramatizations of congress' proceedings, and the fervent pro-independence violence in the streets of Boston and elsewhere, is that America's roots don't look pretty or idealized here. Some horrendous things happen in the name of protest, driving Adams to push the cause of independence in a legitimate effort to get on with a revolutionary war under the command of George Washington. But the process isn't easy: not every one of the 13 colonies-turned-states is ready to incur the wrath of England, and behind-the-scenes negotiations prove as much a part of 18th century congressional sessions as they do today.

Besides this peek into a less-romanticized version of the past, John Adams is also a story of the man himself. Adams' frustration at being forgotten or overlooked at critical junctures of America's early development--sent abroad for years instead of helping to draft the U.S. constitution--is detailed. So is his dismay that the truth of what actually transpired leading to the signing of the Declaration of Independence has been slowly forgotten and replaced by a rosier myth. But above all, John Adams is the story of two key ties: Adams' 54-year marriage to Abigail Adams (Laura Linney), every bit her husband's intellectual equal and anchor, and his difficult, almost symbiotic relationship with Thomas Jefferson (Stephen Dillane) over decades. Giamatti, of course, has to carry much of the drama, and if he doesn't always seem quite believable in the series' first half, he becomes increasingly excellent at the point where an aging Adams becomes bitter over his place in history. Linney is marvelous, as is Dillane, Sarah Polley as daughter Nabby, Danny Huston as cousin Samuel Adams, and above all Tom Wilkinson as a complex but indispensable Ben Franklin. --Tom Keogh

No Sophomore Slump Here! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Prime Suspect 2 is just as well made and compelling as its predecessor. This story was especially interesting because of the race relations angle that was a focus of much of the program. Helen Mirren's Jane is not always a likable character but she seems very very real and the series really showcases what a fine actress Mirren is.

Big Fan 5 out of 5 stars.

I really enjoyed the 2nd episode. It has all the original cast, and shows the transition of Det. Tennyson. Its a rehash for me, I saw all on PBS. Its great to see quality in this dumbed down world.

Another great movie with Helen Mirren.. Great for detective and crime story fans!

VERY COMPELLING SERIES 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought my wife both Part 1 and Part 2 of the Prime Suspect series for Christmas. I had watched them at the time they were originally broadcast. Yet I was surprised at the excellance shown throughout each episode. As usual, the main character is a very complicated person. But this series adds an interesting element by introducing a Black officer into an all White unit, where he is definitly unwelcome. The parallel challanges to the main character and her new officer are very well done.
There is an interesting "did he do it or didn't he do it" element that has a novel twist at the end. I bet you can guess what I'm going to buy my wife for her birthday in March.

Editorial Review:

Helen Mirren is Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison in the second season of Prime Suspect. This case involves a death in the Afro-Caribbean community that puts D.C.I. Tennison and the rest of the police force in the middle of a racial controvery.

An Entertaining Tool Applicable To Business. 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This movie, based on a true story, chronicles the sale of RJR Nabisco during an era when Mergers and Acquisitions were at an all time high. James Garner, in a brilliant performance, plays F. Ross Johnson, the CEO of RJR Nabisco who wants to take Nabisco private and be its majority owner.

The movie does a nice job explaining the financial aspects of a LBO(Leveraged Buyout) on such a basic level that anyone can understand. Throughout the film the storyline flows quickly, although at times certain scenes were a little canned and the satire a bit corny.

The backdrop of the movie is loaded with back and forth backstabbing, blatant greed, under the table dealing, and Jonathan Pryce's depiction of Henry Kravis, a Wall Street mover and shaker and corporate raider is outstanding.

Of course by no means this work supersedes the book, but nevertheless you may find the effort quite entertaining.

Over all, I really enjoyed this movie.

Half of these DVD does not work. I mean that the movie will just stop in a middle.

Excellent, only if you don't pay retail!!!!! 3 out of 5 stars.

Good : In sequential order, each and every episode, fabulous looking set. Beautiful pictures of the four girls, and great descriptions of each episode!

Bad : Cheap binder and paper, cheap fake velour cover, and cheap disc sleeves. Binder-type style that doesn't fit with other dvd's in your collection. No play all option that I can see, so if you're planning on watching a "marathon" be prepared with the remote (cause that 30 minutes goes quick :)

It's definitely a great collection. However, I likely wouldn't have bought it for myself because of the cheaply made binder and the ridiculous retail price. But because it was a gift, I'm enjoying every fabulous moment :)

For six seasons Carrie Bradshaw and friends Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte offered us their hilarious, outspoken and outrageous look at dating, mating and relating in the big city. Celebrate the show that explores the day-to-day -- and night-to-night -- world of single women in this, the definitive collector's edition.

Good video. Thought it was going to be a taping of one of their performances, but were please to find that it was not. Made it more interesting in that there were things on the DVD that could not be done on a stage.

Skips on DVD 2 out of 5 stars.

I bought this DVD to use in my music classroom, and was disappointed that the first viewing came along with a few skips where I had to skip through some parts of the show. Too bad - The students were disapointed as well.

This was a manufacturing problem rather than an Amazon problem. Amazon has always been reliable in general.

NINE TIME STOMP 5 out of 5 stars.

I've seen "Stomp" in New York City eight times -- and strongly suspect more to come. Meanwhile, how wonderful to own Stop Out Loud which I remember having seen on TV and loving it as much as the live show. My only negative is that the creators of Stomp should (to quote Stephen Sondheim) GIVE US MORE TO SEE!

Awesome sound 5 out of 5 stars.

I first watched this movie when I was in 6th grade band class, then again in my high school drama and music classes. I've been wowed eveytime at the way they make their music with all sorts of everyday items and situations like playing cards or driving in a truck. Its an incredible talent, whoever put this performance and music together. My fave parts are the beginning on the billboard, when their underneath the building in waist deep water and the when they come out on the stage with water falling on them and their "drums" - great to watch - great just to listen to - and pretty cool to try and imitate with a handful of friends and items from your own home. If you don't end up buying it - at least check it out on youtube. You'll be entranced.
