A New Generation For Pee Wee 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I myself never watched Pee Wee Herman although my daughter did as his popularity soared back in the 80's??
Correct the timing if I'm wrong.
I had been looking for a movie to rent one evening while spending the time with our grandson who is 41/2. It really was a fluke that Pee Wee's Big Adventure fell into my hands and I said "why not". I knew nothing of him or what the DVD would be like but luckily I took a chance. My grandson loved it! I watched it with him and I was amazed at how clever and creative Pee Wee was. Since then I have purchased Pee Wee's old TV shows which have delighted my grandson and he tells everyone that he meets at the park all about Pee Wee Herman. The kids don't know who he is talking about but the parents all remember him fondly. All I can say is that he is a very funny guy with a great imagination!

Perfect! 5 out of 5 stars.

I got the two seasons of PeeWee's Playhouse in PERFECT condition and more quickly than I expected. Thank you!

I'd Listen to it even if I didn't have 2 Wiggles Fans! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have not ever been such a giant fan of Sam, but this video really made me like him. The first two songs, in my opinion, are the best, but the whole video is great. I don't mind that my 2.5 year old watches it over and over. It normally takes my oldest daughter, who has autism, quite a while to get into a new DVD, but she took to this one immediately!

Wiggles Dancing 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

It is o.k, more graphics than the older stuff. I'm probably just so accustomed to the older ones that it seemed a little weird with lots of graphic backgrounds vs. live stage like appearance. New guy seems to be a good fit. o.k but got a bit boring after a while same singing and dancing throughout. I like mixing it up a bit more to hold their attention. Mother of 2 age 5 and 2

Are they still trying to appeal to 2-3 year olds? 2 out of 5 stars.

First off, I love the Wiggles. I have been to their live shows (can't be beat) and appreciate that my kids groove along with the TV; they don't just sit there like bumps on a log! They can generally learn the lyrics and dance moves with a bit of practice (my son is 2 1/2; daughter is now 5, but loved them at 2-3 years as well). And then came Sam... I honestly really didn't mind the thought of Greg leaving and a "new guy" coming in. I didn't anticipate much of anything with the Wiggles changing, other than the sound of the singer's voice. My kids have noticed the change, but didn't seem to care either. And I still wouldn't care if that were all that changed. The problem is that with all these new songs come complicated, choreographed songs and dances. My kids don't stand a chance of learning many of these songs. One, the "Shimmie Shake," albeit catchy, is an obvious Beatles / Ed Sullivan tribute. What toddler is going to pick up on that? And the go-go dancers in the background are doing 60's dances to boot. It's kind of cute in a way, but again, my kids cannot do any of these moves and don't get the humor. There's another song about cats where the dancers look like they just walked off the Broadway stage, from that "Cats" show. The only lyric to this song is "meow." Again, very complicated choreography (balancing on one hand while turning, pawing a bit seductively at the screen), and the kids don't get the reference. I fail to find the value for children in a song like this at all, to be honest.
What I loved about the Wiggles is that they all went to college and majored in early childhood education and really used that experience to guide the "band" and show, catering it to little kids and their needs. Sam apparently is a music theater major and that now seems to be guiding everything. What I once really liked, I now really don't (they DO sit there like bumps on a log and watch this). Granted, the kids are mildly entertained, but they don't interact at all with what they're seeing. I really limit how much they watch this, whereas I didn't worry about that before. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Greg! At least in this house, the Wiggles have officially "jumped the shark."

One last smarmy thing - one song features Anthony as a cowboy of sorts checking out the girl Wiggly dancers. It's very PG and everything, but what's with his skin tight pants?!? I like Anthony and all, but I don't want to know him THAT well!

Editorial Review:

The Wiggles professional experience as early childhood educators has taught them that children learn best through play. You Make Me Feel Like Dancing includes 20 new songs, and featuring special guest Leo Sayers.

Fantastic!
To me (and countless others, no doubt), this figures as one of THE premier cartoons to emerge from that 'golden age' of Saturday morning entertainment, even in the heady company of the other Hanna-Barbara standards.
I can't think of another 'toon that was so breathlessly anticipated each week in the 60's (oh, to have had video recording capability back then), and the excitement carries through to the present day. This well-crafted & superbly illustrated series set a benchmark for quality cartoons with intelligent dialogue, perfect pacing and a right-on musical soundtrack that surely has embedded itself into every young adventurers' memory banks!
Some notable episodes include 'The Robot Spy', 'The Quetong Missile Mystery' and 'Shadow of the Condor', among others. One or two small edits/omissions in the DVD set, but seemingly nothing too dreadful....;)

As I close out my 40's, I STILL want to be Jonny Quest (would you believe, Race Bannon??).

Editorial Review:

Unlike the outrageous fantasy plots of cartoons that preceded it, "Jonny Quest" drew on science and detective-style logic to solve mysteries and apprehend sophisticated villains. Viewers were transported to exotic locales as Jonny's dad Dr. Benton Quest tackled each new government assignment, aided by ex-agent "Race" Bannon, the Indian boy Hadji, family bulldog Bandit...and of course, his fearless 11-year-old son Jonny (voiced by actor Tim Matheson). Now all 26 classic episodes from Year One charting the fantastic exploits of brave and brainy Jonathan Quest are available for the first time ever, digitally re-mastered on DVD in a deluxe four-disc collectors set, featuring over 11 hours of classic original TV programming and newly-added enhanced content.

WOOT Funimation is speeding up the releases for these! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I am very happy that Funimation is getting these out in a timely fashion. I have all DBZ seasons on old VHS tapes and I'm so happy to be able to get them on nice little DVD sets. Oh and the Marathon feature is great, no more constant interruptions by beginning and ending title themes. The Babadi and Buu sagas are great, hilarious (Babidi and Buu are so odd of a team), and full of action! This is also the first look at SSJ3!! Can't wait to add this set to my collection and throw away another set of bulky cluttering VHS tapes.

Oh and I would like to add that I'm happy that they picked a better cover for this season, I really didn't understand how Piccolo was all that big of a part of the Great Saiyaman/World Tournament sagas. But Majin Vegeta is absolutely perfect for this set.

Editorial Review:

The forces of good and evil have converged upon the planet Earth, and the fate of the universe hangs in the balance! The evil wizard Babidi has traveled across the galaxy on a quest for revenge, hoping to fulfill his father’s thwarted dreams of universal domination. Meanwhile, the Supreme Kai has come to enlist the aid of the Z-Fighters in an effort to prevent Babidi from completing his plans and awakening a monster of unimaginable terror—Majin Buu!

As Goku and the Z-Fighters descend into Babidi’s lair, they are confronted by an army of powerful minions, led by the Demon King Dabura himself! Can our heroes resist the wizard’s dark magic and battle their way through this host of villains before time runs out? With each passing second, more energy is gathered for the sleeping Majin Buu. And should this creature of pure evil be awakened, all life—everywhere—will be extinguished!

Season Eight contains the complete Babidi and Majin Buu sagas.

The Caillou stories are great for preschoolers! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My 3.5 year old daughter absolutely adores Caillou -there is something about this little bald-headed 4 year old boy with an unusual name and a boisterous personality that just captivates her. The DVD here contains the following episodes: We All Love to Travel, Caillou the Explorer, Caillou's Sailboat, Caillou's Train Trip, Exploring the Neighborhood, New House, New Neighbors, Garage Sale, and Supper with Sarah.

The stories themselves are interesting and educational. My only grouse is the puppet segment where we have Caillou's stuffed dino, and pet cat Gilbert among others doing their own thing. It is quite annoying, and my daughter doesn't care much for them. I think they've cut those segments out in the more recent Caillou stories on PBS [thank goodness!], but this DVD still has those segments. Yet, it's nothing a fast forward button can't help, and I would still recommend the Caillou series for young children, especially the 2-4 age group.

Backyardigans:Escape from Fairytale Village 5 out of 5 stars.

My son, who is 5 years old, has always loved the Backyardigans and this one is a winner. It has a lot of fun action and very entertaining dancing. My daughter, who is his twin, also gets caught up in the singing and dancing. The children put on a show themselves. Then they will act out the episodes after watching the dvd. It's so much fun to watch them. I'm hoping a Backyardigan Christmas dvd comes out befor the Holiday. I know it would be a big hit with the children and parents.

It got me and my girls back into Superhero animations 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My daughter got an old Superfriends DVD from her uncle, and I thought it just was so poor that there had to be something better, so we tried the JLU season one and man...it is great!!! Interesting stories, my kids have seriously seen the "kid's stuff" episode over a dozen times - it is hilarious. The plots are great with story arcs continuing over many episodes, this continuity is what captured my imagination and attention and added to the complexity of the overall experience. The animation is also top-notch with plenty of romance in Green Lantern/Hawk Woman and Batman/Wonder Woman and some rather "twilight zone" types of episodes that help include many aspects and characters of the DC universe.

Very Entertaining 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I appreciated the animation and most of the story lines presented. However, as a comic book fan of the JLA- I thought this sereies was too focus on the JLA V. Cadmus angle. It all build to one nemesis and the JLA is never that concrete. However, the shows are fun to watch and the new superheroes introduced add flavor and intrigue that the original seven never could have. Beware- some of the episodes-- This little Piggy/ Hawk and Dove are extremely churlish. But others-- Epilogue make up for that. Overall, its a worthwile investment!
