Love The New Scooby Doo! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The new Scooby Doo adventures are much better than the old ones. They have more comedy and they aren't near as scary for younger kids as the older ones. My five year old son loves the new Scooby Doo way more and he has seen both. This one is a cute DVD - the Christmas one has a great lesson for kids about sharing. The other three adventures are very cool and very imaginative. While in the new adventures some things don't make as much sense as in the old (details like how the monster worked) it's much more fun for the kids!

Merry Scary Holiday - Scooby Doo 5 out of 5 stars.

My children and i are huge fans of Scooby and we have never seen any of these movies in Australia, great so buy something that they haven't already seen

Love it! 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter loves Scooby. My mom sent her this one for Halloween and my grandma bought her the Christmas one for Christmas and she loves it. She owns a few other volumes but she always goes back to those two. I enjoy watching them with her and they remind me of when I use to love watching Scooby!

Not as iconic as the original -- just a whole lot better 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Imagine you were a career biologist in your 30s or 40s. A general interest magazine asks you to rewrite a long bio report you cranked out in the middle of seventh grade on a typewriter while doing stuff for your other six or seven classes. How much will you be able to improve on the original report now that you're wittier; know more about the subject and have a good gauge of what the general public knows of the subject; will be working on a laptop; have access to noted, interesting people in and around your field for interviews on the subject?

That's why, just considering it as entertainment, What's New, Scooby Doo? dusts the original Scooby Doo, Where Are You? and The New Scooby Doo Movies from 1972-73.

This isn't some Gen Y kid engaging in presentism. I'm a Gen Xer who was in the first generation to grow up watching the original Scoobies on Saturday mornings. Fine enough entertainment for most of us, though it was a weakly-animated, formulaic product of the Hanna-Barbera made-for-TV assembly line. Our standards were pretty low at the time.

In doing the update, the current creators did the job that some of the Scooby Doo movies from the 1990s began. They fleshed out the characters, giving them backstory, interests, families. Velma (voiced by "Facts of Life" star Mindy Cohn) is a brilliant scientist with the kind of "smart girl" wit we always suspected she had. We find out where Fred's from and even what he can bench. Daphne was moved from the Danger Prone Daphne of the original toward being a resourceful, style-conscious Buffy the Vampire Slayer-type. (Coincidentlaly, Sarah Michelle Gellar, TV's Buffy, played Daphne in the two live-action Scooby Doo movies, and Buffy's pals called themselves "The Scooby Gang."). Shaggy, still voiced by Casey Kasem, and Scooby still are forever hungry and scared, but even Shaggy gets a few interests we didn't know he had before.

The animation, undoubtedly assisted by better technology, isn't movie studio animation level, but is superior to the stiff stuff of the original.

The plotting is improved. For example, whether the gang is in Egypt or Las Vegas, there's a reason they're there. Most of all, there's a willingness to poke fun at pop culture, each other, themselves and the original Scooby formula while still following it. Like much of the best animation, the humor works on the kid level and on the adult level.

Because of balkanized TV viewing and the varying circumstances of viewing -- some on DVD, some on Boomerang, some at night, some during the day -- it's doubtful future generations will consider this version of Scooby Doo as a piece of bonding, iconic nostalgia that Gen Xers consider the original. It'll just have to settle for being much better.

My 3 year old grandson loves it . He watches it all the time when he comes over and now I don't have to hear that I'm a meanie when he comes over and it is not on the T.V. at the time. Got it just when it said I would and was in great shape.
Thank you, K.

Scoobydoo where are you!!!!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This purchase went smoothly. Now this is ALL I get to watch thanks to my children. My husband cannot stand all the cartoons our children are watching, he wants to watch some adult T.V. This is no big deal for me. It is not worth fighting about. I have become immune to all these cartoons watched over and over and over and over. I wanted to be a parent! This is great! They love it!

Thanks!

Great for the 5 year old set 5 out of 5 stars.

I really like the new What's New Scooby-Doo series, and my son loves them. The new twist to Daphne's character is a nice touch. (My husband thinks the rest of gang are just holding her back.) All the season's complete DVD collections has a bonus episode, so get the complete sets, not the DVD with 4 episodes a piece to them. Just the right amount of scare for young kids to keep them interested, but keep the nightmares at bay.

Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

I purchased this for my grandchildren to watch when they visit. It is a big hit, they really enjoy it.

Scooby Dooby Doo! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

What can I say? I have loved Scooby Doo since I was a little boy waking up early on Saturday mornings to watch it. I felt like I was actually solving a mystery back then, they always went to amazing places I wanted to go to, they were scary, but not really, and the gang had a certain synergy that work really well even for a 5-10 year old.

I've seen some movies and other version of them that just didn't work. But this new one is better than the original IMO. They just use the same old recipe as the original series, maybe a few more options as to who did it, and the places they go are even cooler. Daphne and Fred have a bit more going on with their characters which is fun.

But mostly, my daughter of 5 really loves them. Sometimes I just like that it occupies her attention, but I also like chilling on the couch after we have both had long days and catching an episode of my old favorites with my daughter.

It isn't exactly educational programming, which she is forced to watch exclusively in the mornings, but if she is like me it will be her first glimpse into solving mysteries which have brought me a lot of entertainment as I grew up (from Encyclopedia Brown to the Hardy Boys to Sherlock Holmes to Agatha Christie and Raymond Chandler)

Scooby Sports!!!! 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This DVD is way cool with a buch of sport themed episodes. First Scooby and the gang help a baseball hero break a home run record, but the ghost of Cab Crag isn't too happy about having his record broken. Then they compete in a off road race with a giant worm as a competitor - and what's with the worm worshipers -I mean they go like whoo "a giant worm is our god, whoo we hate cars". Then they go to the Bocephus wrestling facility. Could they come up with a better name than Bocephus? There's a really freaky creature which may scare your little sister. The last episode is, by far, the best. A hockey ghost is terrorizing the World Cup Hockey event. He's one of the toughest ghosts ever, either that, or the Russian Police are the biggest whimps ever! I think this DVD is a good buy if you are a Scooby fan, just be prepared, it can get a little goofy.

Not the old Scooby Doo 2 out of 5 stars.

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the original Scooby Doos. These new ones just get a little scary for little ones and are a little too dark. I don't like that the "monster" is not always a person in a costume like in the originals. I know it is only a cartoon, but I don't think some of this content is good for very young children. My 8 year old loves this, my 6 and 3 year olds are frightened by it and won't be in the same room when it is on.

Should have been a Season Box Set 3 out of 5 stars.
14 of 16 people found this review helpful.

I have the Scooby Doo Golden Collection and I think it's great to have loads of Scooby Doo episodes together in one collection. These new episodes are great but giving us 4 at a time is not a good idea and I really think Warner would have been better off investing their time (as we would invest our money) in a First Season Box Set.

What we are given for now are four episodes running 22 minutes each. A couple of them have below average stories but the other two are up to scratch. The animation and color pallet are very bright and modern as is the soundtrack which incorporates more original music than the old school shows (which tended to re-use temp scores and source music over and over) but manages to work in familiar themes.

For Scooby Doo purists there is no sacrilege here. Shaggy and Scooby/Fred are performed by Casey Kasem and Frank Welker so there's not too much of a divide between this and old school to distance older fans from the new show.

For what it is, the DVD presents the show absolutely flawlessly in 1.33:1 full frame with pretty active Dolby 2.0 surround and some minimal fluff extras. Buy it cheap and hope for a Season Box Set.

This is not part of the What's New Scooby Doo Volume set. It shows Volume 2 on the picture and clearly shows that 4 episodes are on the DVD ... but it is actually only 2 episodes from that volume ... NOT the full volume as pictured. I ordered it and got the wrong one .. sent it back and they sent me the same thing a second time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Amazon ... but I was really frustrated that I couldn't actually get a PERSON to understand my problem. I just kept getting these emails back from someone who obviously didn't read my email or understand what was going on ... maybe it was automated .. who knows! I finally just gave up and found it at Walgreen's for $5.99. Bottom line ... don't order this if you want Volume 2!

Each DVD is better than the last! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Like all of the previous "What's New Scooby Doo?" DVDs, this one is better than all of the ones before (except Volume 8, they're both great!).

This is DVD contains 5 episodes instead of the usual 4. Here are the following episodes, the monster featured in them, and the grades I give them:

1) "Go West Young Scoob" -- Out-of-Control Robots (A+)
2) "Camp Comeonawannascareya" -- Toxic Waste Monster (A-)
3) "Demon Farmer: Farmed and Dangerous" -- Demon Farmer (A+)
4) "Fright House of a Lighthouse" -- A Ghost That Lives In A Lighthouse (A+)
5) "Gentlemen, Start Your Monsters!" -- a MONSTER truck & a skeleton driver (A)

Buy this volume, as well as all the other 8 volumes in this DVD collection, because.....Scooby-Doo is the best! Trust me, you'll love - and won't regret it!!!

The Best of all the Scooby T.V. series! 5 out of 5 stars.

What's New Scooby Doo is the updated version of the original Scooby Doo mysteries and I think it is the best. The production value is excellent and, as a father of 3 die hard Scooby fans(and a huge fan myself), I find the updated version of the mystery 5 hysterical. This series is perfect to introduce your children to a show that you loved as a child and you'll probably find yourself having as much fun watching it as your kids!

scooby doo is the best ever cartoon. no scooby doo movie deserves one star scooby doo is a five star all around yeah you might want the season one to come out but all of the what's new scooby doo are just as good. if you are a scooby doo fan then you would give all the scooby doo's a five star.

The New Scooby and Gang! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a great incarnation of Scooby Doo and the Mystery, Inc. gang. Each episode is sharp, colorful, and well written.

But what makes this collection of episodes, as with the other dvd collections of the "What's New Scooby-Doo" series, are the voices.

Grey Delisle, Mindy Cohn, and Frank Welker sound amazingly similar to the original voices of Daphne, Velma, and Fred (respectively) in the "Scooby Doo Where Are You?" series. And of course, the inimitable voice of Casey Kasem recast as Shaggy round out this show, so that even though it's new, it seems familar.

Why this casting choice wasn't made for some of the newer feature length Scooby movies like "Scooby and The Witch's Ghost," I'll never understand.
