Johnny Depp is amazing when he is in character for a movie; he is equally amazing when he is being himself. I found the interview totally interesting and informative. Johnny's honest and down to earth responses were refreshing and at times quite amusing. This is a great addition to my Johnny Depp dvd collection, which up till now were his movies, now I have Johnny Depp himself in my collection as well. I highly recommend this dvd to all his fans or to anyone who is interested in the art of acting.

"Are you thinking faster than the rest of us?" host James Lipton asks Robin Williams, who proceeds to improvise for four breakneck minutes with a pink shawl donated by an audience member. Williams brings it "on" throughout this exhilarating and exhausting 2001 interview (it's about five minutes before Lipton can even get in a question), the first two-hour episode in Inside the Actor's Studio's august history. In the "thrilling pandemonium" of this master class, the Oscar and Golden Globe award-winning actor and comedian not only crosses the line, but also hurtles himself off the cliff, and he takes his wildly appreciative audience with him. Lipton makes no attempts to reign in Williams, sticking to his signature blue cards that take Williams through his life and phenomenal career, while Williams heads into the ether with digressionary riffs, embodying a dizzying array of characters. Along the way, there are fun biographical bits (Williams was voted least most likely to succeed in high school) and nuggets of comedy wisdom (stand up comedy, he says, makes one fearless and tough as an actor). One wishes Williams dug a little deeper, especially in discussing his addiction battle (Lipton elicits no dramatic revelations or breakdown moments), but this essential episode is a tour de force that is a marvel to behold for any Williams fan or aspiring actor or comedian. A highlight of the disc are deleted interview segments from the five-hour taping, which reveal a more thoughtful side of Williams as he discusses lifting a paralyzed Christopher Reeve's spirits with a hospital room visit, the classic play Waiting for Godot, in which he costarred on Broadway opposite Steve Martin, and calling Steven Spielberg to give him much-needed comic relief during the filming of Schindler's List. As Lipton notes in his introduction, Williams here is unleashed, uncut, and uncensored. He is also, in accordance with broadcast standards, very heavily bleeped, especially when discussing his favorite profanity. --Donald Liebenson

If you have watched the series on Bravo - you know that these are great programs. Good enough to watch several times - as these are classic actors with a lot of great experiences to share. Highly recommended!

I saw the Al Pacino interview on DVD, and they have edited the language, just like the TV version.
What is the benefit of buying the DVD version if we cannot hear the full dialogue of these great actors?
Terrible decision to edit the DVD. I recently saw the Robin Williams interview on Bravo. Enormously funny, which made me think about buying the DVD version, if it exists. However, the TV version is heavily edited or "bleeped" out. Now I know the DVD version is exactly the same as the TV version. I think that one of the benefits of buying a program is that we get to see the full, raw interview. Not for this series, unfortunately.
4 stars for the interview, 0 stars for the Actors Studio dopes who decided to heavily edit what these great actors are saying.

Dave Chappelle's outstanding appearance on Inside the Actor's Studio is certainly one of the high points on that long-running interview series. Not long after his surprising exit from a hugely-successful show on Comedy Central, followed by a trip to Africa that became shrouded in media speculation about the comic's sanity, Chappelle agreed to talk to host James Lipton. Appearing before one of Lipton's typically educated crowds of acting students and others in the performing arts (a flight delay forced the guest to keep them all waiting four hours), Chappelle talks about his early life as a reluctant student yet inspired and daring son of progressive academics. His discovery at age 14 of his life's mission—comedy—is actually thrilling to hear described, as are subsequent anecdotes about feeling the joy of an audience's goodwill (and surviving their collective animosity at times). Chappelle talks about his early TV work and forays into film (he says cracking up Eddie Murphy on the set of The Nutty Professor meant more to him than awards ever could). He discusses his disappointment with the feature, Half-Baked, but how his partnership with co-writer Neal Brennan on that film eventually led to monster hit Chappelle's Show. Most powerful is Chappelle's serious cultural commentary about the extraordinary career and media pressures that can make even the strongest people in showbiz do the unexpected at times—and then be dismissed as crazy. And, yes, he does go into the poignant reasons that caused him to walk away from a $50 million third season on Chappelle's Show. A very funny, smart, and satisfying session. --Tom Keogh

Wow! For major league fans, a must see, for those who are on the fence, you won't be after you see this very unguarded, relaxed, insightful, and at times intimate interview. My only beef is that the actual interview was almost 6 hours long, but only 1.4 hours made it to the DVD...what a huge shame. I am a medium BS fan, but find myself now even more in awe of her accomplishments and looking at and enjoying her work from a new perspective thanks to this interview.

Let me begin by saying flatly I Love Barbra Streisand and think her voice is one of the most beautiful of the 20th century. However, in the Amazon Editorial Description of this product there is a misprint or type O. Here is what Amazon wrote:
"Product Description

The statement that Barbra is the first artist to have won all four awards is not correct. It is, in fact, Rita Moreno. I am getting my information from Google.com as well as WikiPedia. Plus I knew this already in my head but had to confirm. Just letting Amazon know as well as someone who would not know this information readily.
