Hilarious, but perhaps not for everyone? 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

First off, I want to clear up some misconceptions:

When you buy this DVD, it comes with 2 DVD's... The American(Fosterized) version, AND the original Japanese episodes. One DVD has an american flag on it, the other says 'Original Japanese Episodes'. The Japanese episodes come dubbed, and also with Japanese voice+subtitles. If you rate down this DVD for the poor American version then you're a bit on the dimwitted side. You get both versions.

Now, as for the review:

The American version is, well, moreso translated and changed so that American audiences would find it funny. A lot of people like it, a lot don't. Personally, I can't stand Tetsuko's voice so I didn't bother watching it. This is NOT the version that is shown on Adult Swim. Surprisingly enough, Adult Swim bought the Japanese version and not the American version! Weird? Yeah, it really is. A lot of self-proclaimed American "Otaku" (Ugh...) prefer this version. (Ironic!) Also, this version really DOES seem to be a huge joke on ADV videos behalf. It's almost like they're making fun of poor dubs. (But most people seem to insist they were serious about it. Who know, right?)

Now, the Japanese version. The Japanese version, even when dubbed in english, is really hilarious. The problem is that the humor is rather dry and cynical, so you need to really enjoy a less blatant type of humor. Each episode is self-serving, rather comparable to Aqua Teen Hunger Force, despite this being a genuine anime. The humor is also very centric on references to Japanese culture, something yet again that just simply won't be funny to someone who isn't familiar with the culture. Most of my friends whom watch Super Milk Chan seem to have the "Huh? Well, what's so funny?" attitude towards the series. "It's really not funny.." Asides from that, the actual content of the show is really hilarious, if not brilliantly done. There are some repetitive moments, but that alone is part of the humor and parody of this show.

Let me jump back to the American episodes -- If you've only seen Super Milk Chan on Adult Swim, then you HAVEN'T seen the American episodes. You've only seen the Japanese ones. If you thought that Super Milk Chan could be funny, but the Japanese episodes didn't 'click' with you, then buying these DVD's might actually be worth your time. I was surprised to find out how many people absolutely adore the American version of Super Milk Chan but hate the Japanese(Adult Swim) version.

Asides from getting the "Oh! Super Milk Chan" episodes on these DVD's, you also get classic Milk Chan shorts. These are just as good as "Oh! Super Milk Chan", but they are most obviously even MORE dated than Oh! Super Milk Chan, the artwork alone being a bit on the lower quality. (But not at all bad.) Which leads to another unfortunate thing, "Oh! Super Milk Chan" does sorta date all the way back to 1998. So even if you DO get a lot of jokes, or cameos in the series they may just be too old to still be funny. (But I think everyone could be amused with the President having a PS3.)

So yeah, these DVD's are worth the money, and the series is really a brilliant comedy. But just a comedy; Don't expect a story. You get both the US and Japanese versions of the show with these DVD's, and if you don't like the Japanese version which is being aired on Adult Swim, you might want to give the American versions a try. Chances are you're missing out on something if you've already decided you hate Super Milk Chan. (Dr. Eyepatch. <3)

Editorial Review:

Baby-napping birds! Homeless hobos! Alien abductions! Poor Milk! How will she find time to play her games? Or watch TV? With her dysfunctional team, overdue rent bills, and an insecure world ruler calling her day and night, it won’t be easy! (And if you think Milk’s got it bad, wait until a thunderstorm hits the studios and really shakes things up for the actors in the show.) Out-of-this-world anime and the characters behind the scenes who make it happen. Pour yourself another sweet serving of Milk!

Great show 4 out of 5 stars.

I think this is a great show. I love the animation style. The only thing I wish was that it was a full season and in widescreen. The opening credits are obvious the show is made in widescreen format but for some reason they crop it fullscreen.

My grandson loves it 5 out of 5 stars.

My grandson loves super heroes and this one is at the top of his list

It is what it is.... 4 out of 5 stars.

Not quite the same caliber of Fantastic Four cartoons I used to watch back in the day (Hanna Barbera versions & the 1994 version, I never liked the ones with H.E.R.B.I.E. in them though), but they are very entertaining.

Decent. 4 out of 5 stars.

This applies to this entire series, not just Vol. 2.
It's all right, I enjoyed it, mainly because Reed Richards has always been my favorite character and he is pretty awesome in this. Some of his lines are a bit uncharacteristic, but it's good for the most part. I'd say the best quality this cartoon has besides Mr. Fantastic is the animation. The quality is excellent, as well as the way the surroundings (i.e. the Baxter Building, Fantasticar, cites, outer space) are drawn. They look superb.

The worst thing, however, is Johnny. His hair is awful, his lines are cheesy a lot, and he acts like a jerk. Yes, he is supposed to be kind of a hothead, but this one exaggerates it a bit. He looks like a freak. The anime look makes me want to cringe. Sue is pretty, but the anime degrades her too. Not as much as Johnny, but still a little too much for my liking. Her attitude and tone of voice were sort of uncharacteristic at times. Good thing Reed and Ben aren't as bad as far as the anime goes, otherwise it would ruin everything.

I wouldn't buy a DVD with only a few episodes on it, however. Wait until they come out with the entire season, maybe buy it if it's a good price.

Editorial Review:

Family Guy, Vol. 1
To the ranks of shows too brilliant and outrageous for prime time (The Ben Stiller Show, Andy Richter Controls the Universe), add Seth McFarland's Family Guy. This animated series, which debuted after the 1999 Super Bowl, simply sparked too much controversy and offended too many sensibilities to survive (Entertainment Weekly dubbed it "the Awful Show They Just Keep Putting on the Air"). That the Fox network also played hackysack with its schedule, ensuring viewers would not be able to find it, sealed its fate (it was cancelled in 2002). The Volume 1 boxed set containing all 28 episodes from the first two seasons is payback for the show's devoted cult following, who may be moved to echo the words of infant Stewie Griffin, the megalomaniacal 1-year-old bent on matricide and world domination: "Victory is mine!"

Family Guy, Vol. 2
The third and final network season of Seth MacFarlane's late, lamented Family Guy finds television's most dysfunctional cartoon family even more animated than usual. As MacFarlane notes in a bonus segment about the controversial series' censorship battles, he was inspired to go for broke, thinking that the series, already juggled like a hot potato in the schedule (at one point, it aired opposite the mighty Friends), had been cancelled. Just as Spinal Tap walked the fine line between "clever and stupid," so did Family Guy gleefully mock the line between "edgy and offensive." Case in point is this set's holy grail: "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein," not aired during the series' original run, in which clueless Rhode Island patriarch Peter Griffin is convinced that if his lumpen son is to be rich and successful, he must become Jewish.

Family Guy, Vol. 3
Family Guy lives! That's great news for the devoted fans who watched in record numbers the reruns on Cartoon Network and made the Family Guy DVDs bestsellers. It's bad news for Mel Gibson, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon, Rob Schneider, Skeet Ulrich, Corey Haim, My Two Dads, and other pop-culture detritus this show's writers take infinite delight in kicking when they're down (or up, for that matter). The long, long, awaited fourth season begins with a bravado broadside at Fox, which canceled Family Guy in 2002. Peter Griffin (voiced by series creator Seth MacFarlane) recites a litany of 29 doomed replacement shows beginning with Dark Angel and ending with Greg the Bunny. From there, it's like the Griffins never left. The 13 episodes are just as dense with bodily function jokes, surreal nonsense, gratuitous pop-culture references (the more obscure, the better), and edgier gags that recklessly cross the line on any number of levels ("Maybe I was wrong about you," Jodie Foster says to John Hinckley in the episode, "Model Misbehavior." "Maybe I was wrong about all men.").

Editorial Review:

Terror hits new heights in this "brilliant, vicious little piece of work" (twitchfilm.net) set in a remote mountain wilderness. After a man traveling alone has a steamy encounter with a beautiful stranger, the pair join up and take a detour through the hills. But they are suddenly forced to abandon their cars when an unseen sniper puts them in his crossfire. Without understanding why they are being targeted, the strangers must survive their ruthless pursuers and their harsh surroundings. King of the Hill is a frighteningly realistic thriller that "builds steadily towards a crackerjack finale" (Neil Young, The Hollywood Reporter).

Family Guy Volume 2 sees the return of America's most outrageous animated family with all 21 Season Three episodes, plus one never-before-seen episode - "When You Wish Upon A Weinstein" banned from TV, and only available in this collection!

In this hilarious final volume, the Griffin family faces all-new dilemmas, including Brian's unintentional foray into directing porn, Stewie's rants on national TV, Meg's date with a nudist and Lois' Yuletide insanity.

Meanwhile, Peter is surprised to discover Lois was once a groupie, and his son, Chris, is more "endowed" than he is.

These seasons were terrible 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I like Family Guy and apparently so does America since Seth was just signed for a pile of money throughout 2012. Honestly these first seasons are absolutely terrible, these seasons illustrate how they were trying to borrow from the Simpsons too heavily and not very good at it as well. It was only after they found what works for them (cheap cude and over the top) and flash backs later on which make them worth watching. I suggest to skip these first few seasons as they add little to the plot and really make for some aweful comedy.

Editorial Review:

Meet the Griffins: Peter, the big, lovable oaf who always says what’s on his mind. Lois, the doting mother who can’t figure out why her baby son keeps trying to kill her. Their daughter Meg, the teen drama queen who’s constantly embarrassed by her family. Chris, the beefy 13-year-old who wouldn’t hurt a fly, unless it landed on his hot dog. Stewie, the maniacal one-year-old bent on world domination. And Brian, the sarcastic dog with a wit as dry as the martinis he drinks. The animated adventures of his outrageous family will have your whole family laughing out loud.

Four good episodes from seasons 9, 14 and 15 4 out of 5 stars.
21 of 23 people found this review helpful.

Here is a brief synopsis of each episode on this 4-episode release:

Natural Born Kissers (season 9)
Homer and Marge have trouble capturing their old magic in the bedroom and learn to get it back by adding a sense of danger to their love life. They begin "snuggling" in very public places in order to add excitement to their romance, but this quickly goes awry when they are caught on the miniature golf course.

Large Marge (season 14)
Lisa wins a bet with Homer on the Dewey/Truman presidential election of 1948 and gets to pick the day's father/daughter activity. Lisa chooses to assist with building houses for the homeless. Homer removes his wedding ring after getting paint on it and the usual confusion and mayhem ensues when Marge believes he is flirting with other women.

Three Gays of the Condo (season 14)
Homer and Marge argue when Homer finds out Marge married him because she was pregnant with Bart. He decides move in with Milhouse's dad. When that doesn't work out, he's eventually taken in by Karl, his former assistant. Karl has a flamboyant alternate lifestyle and Homer gets involved in it with the expected comedic results.

The Way We Weren't (season 15)
When Homer mentions that Marge was not his first kiss, the story flashes back to Homer in summer camp where his first kiss was with an anonymous girl who turns out to be Marge after all. In the flashback, Homer fails to show up for a planned meeting with her because he accidentally winds up in a fat camp, but all the years since that incident Marge believed she was stood up.

This collection of 4 episodes from seasons 9, 14, and 15 on the theme of romance should please any Simpsons fan who enjoys these single-disc releases. Although all these episodes will eventually be available on full season sets, if you can't wait for some of the later seasons to arrive or if you prefer less expensive "best of" collections then this disc is for you. Although the lack of extra features or more episodes on the disc is a negative, the price of the disc is relatively modest and most of the episodes are fairly good ones.

Editorial Review:

Just in time for Valentine's Day, this special collection features four "romantically-themed," hysterical episodes from America's #1 TV family. THE SIMPSONS "THE SIMPSONS" KISS & TELL features four laugh-out-loud classic episodes never before seen on DVD from the enduringly-popular, critically-acclaimed FOX animated series.
