Starts off BAD, finishes Good. 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The 2.5 series starts off horrible. The first two episodes were so bad I almost stopped watching the series thinking that it "jumped the shark". However I hung in there and by the end of the 3 discs you are delivered into a whole new outlook on the series. So far this set was the weakest out of all the others, but with that being said this series is better than 99.99% of all the stuff on TV even at its worst. So you should buy it and enjoy.

Brilliance in Manifest 5 out of 5 stars.

Science-fiction has never reached this level of perfection until now. Acting, writing, production values, all climaxing to the absolute panicle in television viewing. If you do not have this complete series in your collection you will forever regret it.

a frackin' good show 4 out of 5 stars.

An interesting take on Sci-Fi, is BSG. At it's core are ultra-conservative values and a fascination with the military. Buddy camaraderie, loyalty, family, military hierarchy, patriotism are endorsed and revered. Abortion is banned. The exiled humans follow their "scripture", an unabashedly fundamentalist Biblical plan which turns out to be literally true (!). Having their Scripture, humans can safely eschew mystical experience which is something that the "Cylons" have a mono-poly on. Let us also not forget that the plot is based on 12 human colonies trying to find Earth (ie, "Zion")!

On the other hand, intellectuals and scientists are demonized (cowardly, crazy and traitorous), as are unions and civil society advocates (power-hungry ex-terrorists) and any mental-emotional sophistication (likely to be manipulation by Cylon enemies). In other words, the show could have been (and perhaps was) written by a Dobson-Cheney surrogate in some military Psy Ops room or another. if so, the creators should get medals for it.

Because the show works. The drama and its protagonists suck me right in every single time. Great writing, directing, excellent acting, great selection of actors which, surprisingly for a 'fundamentalist' show, feature women in key combat roles. That was an excellent call; the Lt. Starbuck character in particular mixes macho posturing and femaleness in a weirdly unique and unflinchingly consistent way. So one roots for Galactica and her crew and is happy and relieved every time they blast their way through Cylon lines.

the director certainly does not spare viewers' sensibilities. The language is raunchy (what the frack!), violence is depicted graphically with no details spared, the creators of the show revel in all kinds of abuse and torture; the graphic nature of confrontations at physical, psychological and cultural levels is imo quite effective. BSG and its cousin Stargate represent polar opposites to the philosophical sophistication and enlightening aspirations of shows such as Star Trek or early Star Wars; they're the Sci-Fi equivalent of redneck pulp that catalyzes people's inherent fear of the "Other" rather than teaching them to be better, more 'enlightened', humans. Of what use is personal growth and happiness if there is a terrorist hiding under every rock? Unfortunately this is the kind of pulp i like. Just as unfortunately, i am not alone.

SG Atlantis - Great Season 5 out of 5 stars.

The second season builds on the success of the first one. Definite buy if you are a fan of the series!

Excellent. 5 out of 5 stars.

I purchased this DVD from Amazon.com and am thrilled with the quality of the product, and with the service from Amazon. The DVD has many features that I did not even know were there and which added to my enjoyment of it. Thankyou, to the people and the intelligent programme at Amazon, which makes it an 'Amazin' way to shop.

Best SciFi Series 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Great Series to follow the SG-1 Franchise. This season introduces some new characters, which in turn amps up the action.

Season TWO of an EXCELLENT show 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I saw the movie Stargate but never watched SG-1. I was missing my dose of Sci Fi. I still miss Babylon 5 and the Trek series (not enterprise). SGA is a welcome addition to my library.

Season 2
DVD Set:
1. The discs are great and easy to take them out.
2. Slim type case gives extra room, not like the Buffy, Babylon 5, Lois & Clark to name a few that take a lot of space.
3. THERE ARE SCENE SELECTIONS ON THIS SET. Thank you for that... I hated that season 1 did not have them.
4. All episodes come with a commmentary, excellent.. you can watch it with or without giving you double the pleasure.
5. The menu is much better than in season one. It is easy to read and navigate.
6. The art on the cases and DVD is OK, nothing fancy but it does not look like a bad print like in the Beauty and the Beast series.

THE SERIES.

Like other reviewers I will agree that the cast is much better in season two. I did not like the character played by Rainbow Sun and I still not care for Ronan. All the other characters are great. The deadelus and its captian are a welcomed addition to the series, giving in it a great sense of power in the pegasus galaxy.

All the episodes are great and built momentum, but the final three episodes including the finale are lacking the excitement of season one. The final episode ends with a cliffhanger, that does not (at least to this reviewer) make you sit on the edge of your seat waiting for season three to star. Through the season we watched conflicts within the crew, friends and enemies to be let down at the end.

It is still an excellent show, highly recommended to add to any sci fi library. If you do not have any of the four seasons, buy them in the pack (I did), and at the time was cheaper than individually.

Sit down and enjoy the show.

I really like the plot, the characters, special effects.... well it is a fun show to watch!

Excellent series! 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought two sets of these one as a gift and one for myself, both sets worked and great packaging. Fan of SGA since the start and this is worth every penny. I've watched this set at least 6 times since I've purchased it. The menu is a sga true layout with easy access to all functions of the dvd.

Another excellent season but it could have been much better 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The DVD set:
1. The editting is AWESOME. I owned many TV Series DVDs Set and NONE HAVE THE EDITTING OF SGA. The episode goes as a small movie and you can not feel where the commercial breaks were.
2. The art on some of the slim cases does look, like a bad print.
3. The DVDs themselves are great, easy to take and put back in, nice art.
4. The complete case is very slim, so it does not take a lot of space in your library.
5. There is no booklet, and there is a small summary on the back cover of each case volume for the episodes.
6. The menu has a very nice graphic and it is easy to read (unlike season 1)
7. You have scene selection and comments on the episodes.

The story:

I agree with most reviewers that season 3 was weak and most of the stories were boring.
1. The special effects were a step up from previews seasons. Specially the season finale between the beam, the shield, the city going underwater, the city raising to space it was a complete extravaganza and well received by this reviewer.
2. The wraith were not touch upon much and their story felt like it stop on this season.
3. The character of Michael returns but not much happens with it; making you think why bring it up.
4. The replicators were a nice threat. I do not watch SG1, so I was surprised to learn that they were used on that show. Knowing that I do have a complaint of using foes from another show. New Galaxy, New Show there should be NEW THREATS. On the other hand, I saw them as the BORG of the SG universe, of course cuter in this universe. =)
5. I did not like the death of doctor Becket and specially the departure of Dr. Weird. Unlike most reviewers I like her character, she seemed a little bland at times, but a strong leader at best.

Overall an excellent show, but four stars because the writing staff could do better.

Sci-Fi Television At It's Finest! 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

And so we have the conclusion to the brilliant first part of the mini-series that enthralled me when I was a kid over 25 years ago and boy was it worth the wait! Who can forget Robin's childbirth of twins for example? Very few television series from my childhood age well but you can count "V" as one of them. The picture quality of this dvd is also very good although not perfect but still better than the first mini-series; the surprising thing though is that the first series dvd came with Dolby Digital Surround sound while this installment comes only in the Mono. Nevertheless, this dvd together with the first mini-series represent the best way to remember the great sci-fi drama and for me I can do without the other follow up episodes which in my opinion were very poor and do not do justice to the "V" franchise.

TV Sci-Fi at its best and a dvd version that will not disappoint although it would be nice to have future restoration done on both the picture and sound quality with good surround sound options perhaps on the Blu-ray format.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 5 out of 5 stars.

Just the way we remember the series when it was still in production.
Funny, witty, classic commentary by the "bots".

The Worst! But That's Good! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Two classic stinker movies made watchable by Joel, Mike, Tom, and Crow. "Manos" is truly awful with the whole movie being re-dubbed (I encourage you to read IMDB.com's Trivia section on this movie). "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" is only a few steps lower on the bad movie scale because it had a higher production value. So just sit back and watch the crew slice these movies up. The "Poopie" blooper section also has some great outtakes.

So much fun! 5 out of 5 stars.

I was a die-hard fan of this show back in the day. I ordered this to introduce my 11-year old son to the series. He is now a fan too. Sooo funny!!

wow 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Have to agree with most reviewers that 'Santa Claus' is worth the price of the box. 'Manos' is indeed awful, so badly photographed, badly paced, and just plain off, it creates a black hole of badness from which little humor can escape - though the MST crew give it a credible try, and do produce some laugh-out-loud moments. The director of 'Manos' must have been a silent movie buff, as there are many scenes and settings evocative of 1920s films (and the sound is about as good). 'Santa Claus' on the other hand is campy-bad, and the boys make the most of it. Recommended.

Editorial Review:

Join Joel and his "robot friends" as they're forced to endure two of the worst movies ever made. To maintain their sanity, they hilariously skewer the films' performaces, special effects and dialogue.

1st Season was best 5 out of 5 stars.

Wonderful, funny, over the top. The selection menu and the accompanying booklet give summaries so you can find just the episode you're looking for. I'm glad they included cast interviews in the extras. It adds another dimension to the set. In short, I wouldn't change a thing.

Outrageously Funny! 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm terribly upset that they shortened these!!!! But if I didn't buy it from them, then who would I buy them from because I MUST HAVE THEM NOW! I used to rush home from work just to watch the series. Watching them again, still makes my day. Who was the idiot that decided to cut this series? Who ever it is, smack yourself in the forehead!!!

I'd like to cast a vote to BRING THEM BACK!!!

3rd Rock from the Sun, which has earned 31 Emmy nominations,is an inspired half-hour comedy series farcically dealing with the human condition. It was created by Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner in association with Carsey-Werner Productions, LLC for NBC-TV. Set in the fictional city of Rutherford, Ohio, this gentle-hearted series stars John Lithgow as the High Commander of an investigative team sent to Earth on a mission to learn everything about humans and their so-called advanced cilvilization.

Not on HD-DVD 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

It is indeed poor business practice for Paramount to abandon the HD-DVD version of this series, as, for some of us, it was the only reason we bought the HD-DVD players in the first place. I'm sure it would look much better in HD.

Agree with others that the package is not so good either. The hinge and latch are hard to close, especially if the discs aren't perfectly placed in the case.

I'm glad they went to the trouble to remaster them. It's just too bad you can't really enjoy the better master quality in HD.

This is the greatest movie of all time. I can't get enough of it! Every time I watch it, I find something new that I missed the first couple of times. And it's hilarious to quote, too... Good movie for late-night movie nights!

Refreshing mint flavor 5 out of 5 stars.

Normally I am not a consumer of sci fi movies or television shows. My brother convinced me years ago to watch this with him, and I am so glad he did! I laughed myself to tears and had to watch it again to catch some of the jokes I had missed the first time. It's one of the few movies that I have watched over and over throughout the years. I have an old VHS copy, and I was thrilled to find this DVD re-release. If you have an open mind, an appreciation for humor, and some good friends to watch it with, you just might love this movie as much as we do.

Season 2: Over 60 Stories!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Season 1 had only about 20 stories. Season 2 has over 60 stories! And they are not the chopped up edited versions you see on cable, these are the originals. There were 2 to 4 stories on each episode of the Night Gallery, and this is what you get here. This is the good stuff. And don't forget to get the Night Gallery book by Scott Skelton, it's huge and packed with insight on every eposide and much, much more. The book said they had enough material to go for 7 seasons, mostly short stories from horror magazines from the 1930s to the 1970s. Too bad the series was canceled shortly into the 3rd season. Nothing like it before or since.

Editorial Review:
