Everything you wanted to know about the technology used during the gold rush is in this episode of Wid West Tech, or at least as much information can fit into a 50 minute show. You learn how the miners looked for gold in the mountains using picks and dynamite or in the water using sifting pans. This show doesn't get boring and it's informative and I would recommend it to anyone who as an interest in the wild west.

Editorial Review:

Out of hundreds of western towns, a handful survived through technological ingenuity to become icons of the Old West. We discuss why certain areas were chosen for settlement, how the towns sprang up, their construction, water supplies, sanitation, and protection against Indian attack. We learn the layout, which included saloons, dance halls, general stores, undertakers, cemeteries, and of course, jails and court houses. And we discover how the Wild West advertised to lure homesteaders to the frontier.

They also dicuss the technology behind them so you learn how they actually work. There are also some tales of with re-enactments which deal with the six shooter playing a significant role. Everyone knows that the six shooter and wild west went hand and hand but with this episode you learn how it was made possible and what role it really played in the wild west.

If you're interested in the wild west, or technology from the past then you should see this and all the other wild west tech episodes.

Editorial Review:

Six-shooters--revolvers with six chambers--were as common as cell phones in the Wild West, but when one went off, it was more than annoying--it was most often deadly. A priest, a 16-year-old boy sailing the world, and a covey of cold-blooded killers all played important parts in the development of this classic western weapon. What was missing from Samuel Colt's first revolving handgun? How did Smith & Wesson exploit a technological edge to make millions of dollars? Which six-shooter was prone to blowing up? Join us for a bang-up hour as we examine the advances that made the six-shooter safer and more reliable as a first line of defense...and just as often, as a first line of attack.

In this episode of Wild West Tech you learn about how the gamblers tried to cheat other players and how the casinos tried to cheat their customers by using devices and tools that would give them the upper hand. You also find out what happens to you if you get caught cheating and you learn about some famous gamblers and some famous people who liked to gamble like Wild Bill. They go into detail about the inventions they used and how they worked.

This is a good show and I wish that they sold it in a set but hey what can you do? Anyways if you're a fan of the show or the wild west then you should get this.

Editorial Review:

Ride on a luxurious riverboat to the rough-and-tumble mining and cattle towns where prospectors and cowboys earned and lost fortunes as we explore Wild West games, techniques, and cheating devices. Meet professional players who made a living by outwitting others, including famous riverboat gamblers George Devol and Canada Bill Jones, and Tombstone duo Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Keith Carradine introduces the rules of each game and demonstrates the types of weaponry gamblers carried.

how's it goin' 5 out of 5 stars.

Wild West Tech is an hour long show with commercials and in every episode they deal with a certain technology from the wild west. They discuss how it was used, who used it and how it changed the west. There are some jokes thrown in here and there which are pretty chessy but still funny. The re-enactments are good and enjoyable.

This episode deals with how the lawmen of the west executed criminals and how they invented new ways of doing it as well. They discuss hangin's, firing squads, the electric chair and some other things and with each invention there is a story about a man who experienced one of these deaths.

My only problem is that they only offer each show individualy instead as a series with all the episodes together. This is a good show for any one who has a general interest in wild west history or the type of technology that was used in those times.

Editorial Review:

Journey back to the days when justice was swifter than a saloon girl on a Saturday night and examine the horrors of human design that brought terror to the Old West. Sheriffs and judges, desperate to stop the growing onslaught of outlaws, needed grisly technologies to punish and deter murderers, rapists, and rustlers. Join the crowd of onlookers who gathered at the grisly gallows to witness a man gaining infamy at one end of the rope--and sometimes, immortality at the other.
